Beautiful masterpiece! Disappointing ending.

Positive: Darren Wang was made for this role! He is hot, aggressive and vicious like a wolf! Love it! :D

Negative: Tragic ending. Horrible clothes! ML has some strange priest-like robe.

Music: Beautiful, haunting songs! I'm amazed how good all the songs are, and it goes so well with the theme of "wolf".

I love masculine ML, who are NOT pale (LOL) and Darren Wang has a tan! Love it! I really like how the director made him cold, emotionless, yet conflicted behind the FL's back. I love how they portray the depth of his character. And I love that they gave him a tan! Fitting for soldiers in the sun all day! Finally!

FL is quite naive up until ML betrays her. Her character is a bit boring, annoying, and pitiful, but Li Qin is a very good actress, and portrays it the best she can. Though I don't think this role fits her. She seems more like a mature, smart person and this role should go to someone who looks young, naive, and gullible.

Some scenes don't make sense to me, for ex. I don't understand why ML would bring his troops to be harmed if he just wanted FL to kill him. He's big into brotherhood, so I would think he would protect his troops. If I was director, I would just have him go to the battleground himself and let FL kill him. LOL. Why bring the troops too?

I also don't get the tragic ending themes of these new Chinese drama. It's almost as if Chinese dramas are required to be tragic these days. I think this drama didn't need a tragic ending, as ML and FL could have just left the world to live in the mountains, like Return of the Condor Hero. The ending was a disappointment and unnecessary. It could have been one of my go-to re-watch drama, but I'll just watch up to the last episode. LOL.

Xiao Zhan's character is very likable in this drama. He did a great job playing someone with a big heart, though the wedding scene was a bit funny.

Xin Zhi Lei who plays Yao Ji is a very beautiful actress and plays her character well.

Not bad as i think, but still lacking something , AMAZING OST! ,ending.......hmm

Actually, this is not impossible to have a good ending, but the director team chose the worst one.just like lanling wang

There are not many misunderstandings, but once they are misunderstood it takes a lot of time to resolve

It was pretty good at start, but it seemed a little strange in the end.

The plot to express the story was pretty good at first, but in the last few episodes, things happened suddenly, very strange, incomplete, and unclear.

The storyline of the events that occurred is quite complete, but for past events, past timings, and timing for the future it is not clear, it is just said a few days, a few time, it is not clear how long time has been past,, how long time it has been since his father died ,how long time she training with jichong

They only like to say half their dialogues for the scene and they changed the plot after half of it, so I don't know what they are talking about or what they are talking about.

###
told that the female lead and the male lead have met since they were little and after they parted and met again they pass many times but meet shuddenly after ye sha massacre ma family

Seperated and FL married to second male lead but divorce and FL&ML together again without any gossips?

###
and still many questions remain:
1. Who is wen wang? According to wang xiang, "li manor " then who was the royal family of the ex dynasty? Pingyuan princess or WEN WANG?

If pingyuan princess is wen wang wife so she is not of orthodox blood, so pingyuan princess cant be called ex dynasty last princess,

but if wenwang is pingyuan princess father,,, then mazhaixing not "huang nu (emperor daughter) because emperor is her grandfather not her father

And if jin wang also have prince tittle and he surname is li so that mean ma zhai xing father surname is li?

2. How old "li ju qi " jin wang first son,, he already appeared when chu kui usurp the throne

3.how old ma zhai xing ,lang zai,, yelu baona, and ji chong?

4.when chukui first son dead? And why chukui want to kill him? Not loyal? Bad reason!

5.how of ping yuan princess? ,,if 25 years ago she only 18 years old so if she still alive she just 43 years old?

6.and all officer dead?

7. And bo prince dead or not?

#############################

Ep 3, when king ask lord bo for return to kuizhou, the scene little weird but still acceptable

Ep 4 , lang zai, meeting ma zhai xing a bit suddenly met after missing it so many times

If LANGZAI has nostalgia with kuizhou, it should be impossible, Because Langzai's impression of kuizhou is only betrayal and loss of family,He should hate ma family , and he doesn’t know that xing er he know is ma zhai xing

Isnt said that ma zhai xing was traumatized? Why did she become poisoned?

Ep 5,
From episode 5 the scene sequence seems to be a little reversed a, won't Haidie report to the emperor about the ma family troops? But why does it seem that the emperor knows before she reports? And what Haidie reported wasn't about the troops ,,

Mazhaixing said the killer of ma mansion is held tiger seal on his hand,, she witbessed by her own eyes? Real of fake? I not remember that she see that scene

Ep7,,, from episode 7 the incompleteness of the story begins to appear, if you say Mazhaixing is told to stay at Bo Prince's house, without the ceremony you can still understand it, but mazhaixing why are there no questions at all?,,,

ma feng cheng meet bo prince, the scene unseen scene too,

and has some contradiction, Isn't that bo prince said that is an emperor's order had to treat as bo prince consort , but he himself said he was not the Bo prince consort,,,,

secondprince said boprince and him already known each other for over ten years,, but the years just past 8 years!,,,

and when yanghou(4prince cousin) the milliter officer, report to emperor about assasin of 2prince is to suddenly and the assasin already dead

Ep 12,It's a bit strange. If she doesn't know that he is a langzai, and she no longer suspects that he is a langzai, she shouldn't know that lordbo has a wolf army, if she knows that,, didnt she doesn't suspect that he is a langzai again? And he also used his blood, her character is a smart character, so is it impossible that she doesn't notice it? A person who is has same face and related to a wolf, wouldn't she doubt it?,, And the funny thing is that they just discovered that the princess was kidnapped. Even witan princess guard and maid was killed by someone, they should have guessed it from the beginning ,,Which a stupid murderer would kill if there were no have bad motives?

Ep 16, It's unbelievable ,, bo prince is so powerful he couldn't lift the iron cage, but Wenyan can easily Overturned the iron cage,,

even though the arrow only hit the penetrating part of the arm, not even near the heart, already said that she was helpless, then when Bo Prince was stabbed by a sword until pierced through why was he still alive? shouldn't the stab position be more closer to the heart? won't blood spurt more easily?

And where ma jing? She is ma zhai xing's servant, she must be in her side

And jing prime minister already dead?

Ep 17, so suddenly! ,,,just told mazhai xing to rest for a few days ,, going to the border qitan took a few days ,, got a report from the emperor immediately arrived at the capital and the second prince was injured

Ep 18, why suddenly 4prince in jichong hands? Arent they on same side?

Ep19, Why did the debt become three? I thought it only one,,, why shudenly ji chong lure bo prince to wolf hunt mount? ,isnt it around kuizhou? ,,, And where did Wenyan know that boprince is langzai, doesn’t they said to keeping it secret?,,, They said that jichong came to boprince manor and kidnapped the princess? Didn’t mazhaixing just be with jichong?,,and 3 things already done, but ji chong she still owe him? ,,,,,,,

emperor It turned out that the emperor did not know that mazhaixing knew langzai. I thought the emperor knew about it from the beginning, so I told them not to let Boprince know that they were going to attack the ma mansion. So what was the emperor afraid of from the beginning? Why couldn't let Boprince know that they would attack Ma manor? This becomes not interesting

Ep21,, why 4 prince suddenly at beiliao river? ,then ep19 when 4prince asking weyan and others obout what happen with bo prince no the result,,, It's unclear, what is it in the princess's footbath?,,,,At the beginning, didn’t Yaoji say that he and Boprince are incompatible?,,Is she so stupid? Why is she getting stupid?

Ep22 ,slaughter banquet,, just seeing mazhaixing picking people for sacrificing and just pass like that? ,,and i just know ma zhai xing already know YESHA existence ?

Ep23, WHY SHUDDENLY DUAN MANOR OLD SERVANT ALREADY DEAD?! AND WHY did duan manor want to frame boprince?

Ep24, shuddenly ma troops already send to attact jin troops Taibao battalion

Ep26, ep22 ma zhaixing already know about yesha existence but....... Seems like ma zhaixing didnt know about yesha leader is bo prince

Ep28, what happen next? After mazhaixing ride fast the horse to market? It’s better not to shoot,if shown like this way,for nothing

Ep30, where the old qitan king? Why her brother become a new king?

Ep33, Zi shen (yaoji assistant) ep26 he is sent to jail because want poisoned mazhaixing, but when he go out?

Ep34, Yao ji go out searching her foster father but Just talked about some unclear bullshit and then go back to the palace to cure bo prince,

And he didn't ask for his ancestors, why are they related to the first prince? chixiao sword?first prince? Isnt first prince sword is longshe sword? And why first prince dont want chukui take the sword? And why chukui want to used 4prince threaten first prince?

Ep36 ,half talking! Whats bo wang weakness?Lang gu hua? it's not that if he stained with lang gu hua , he would become very cruel beast?

What yaoji said to chukui? 4prince conspiracy? Isnt she want to protect bo prince?

Ep 37,, What happen with first prince?,, absurd Why are boprince and zhaixing so coincidental found a house that someone there who can save them?

Ep 42,,from where they know about zhao liu ye record? There is no time to them for searching that

Ep43,,, Didn’t it mean that yaoji has already returned to the capital?,,,,And isn't the chuchu prince consort praying in the temple, why did she know about the second prince?,,,
36:42 when is that? Yaoji and bo prince past? ,and who laying on the bed?

Ep47,,,mazhaixing and boprince Once they said that they had been separated for many years, and then said that they had been separated for only one year, how long did they separate?

Ep48,why shuddenly mazhaixing taking the medicine? ,,, I thought they were talking about how to save boprince, not how to save 4prince, and how jichong know about this?,,

and why when they meeting again they talking about antidote to cure bu prince? And jichong seems not know about the medicine that mazhaixing taking?

They always talking about mazhaixing saved bo prince,,,

What actually happen with ma zhai xing?! Omaigot! Ridiculous
She ffulfilling bo prince wish?! What wish? Help 4prince?! When!

And mazhaixing and ji chong already divorce? Without any gossips?

Jichong sneaked into Yang kingdom, and escaped from danger just like that? Too sloppy

Ep49,,, If she wasn't so impulsive, she shouldn't have died

Lovers' Love and Hate in a Despicable Way

The main role of this drama, Darren Wang is casted into a villain-like role as Prince Bo, a beastly, ferocious and a self-centered traitor of his real self only have changed at the latter part of the story. In the same way, the story is a very chaotic play of human emotions which is unrealistic to the actual human life. It is also in unimaginable concept of the story for both lovers in the lead role in a despicable character particularly of dealing their emotions. I salute Darren Wang to act perfectly and his face and aura looks exactly the same of a savage indigenous man of native Latin America of those we have seen in the film: Apocalypto. This is a kind of drama where the villain is the main role and putting the second lead role character of Ji Chong played by Xiao Zhan who turns-up as the righteous hero in the story. Furthermore, the story is highlighting the weaknesses of a woman as illogical, naïve, and emotionally unrestrained or emotionally slave to the man she loved in the character of Ma Zhai Xing portrayed by Li Xin in the story. Actually the character of Ma Zhai Xing is an insult to our modern women nowadays who are against to be victimized of the abuses and maltreatments of the men and against of stereo typing the women like the character of Ma Zhai Xing. The acting of the actors and cinematography of this drama are superb.

Finally: The Wolf!

Though I didn't wait like many people did for 3 years to watch the drama, I was anticipating it. Primarily I wanted to see Xiao Zhan in his first major role but I had also seen Li Qin in Princess Agents and Jade Dynasty, so I knew she had the acting chops. This was the first time seeing Darren Wang in anything. Though I had not like Lord Personality Disorder as I called Lord Bo and how he treated MZX for most of the series for supposedly her own good, I do have to give props to Darren for being able to switch from an ice cube to a stuffed animal and back again in the blink of an eye. I don't think many actors could pull that off. MZX was the only character that I wish was done better with development as she didn't really show her badass side until literally the last episode. The entire time she went from quite strength to powerless, to a sappy girl who let lord disorder get away with humiliating her left and right. It was very choppy. For his first major role, Xiao Zhan did a wonderful job. JiChong was friendzoned by the woman he loved but still came to her aid no matter what. Considering he didn't have many scenes, he was believable and well played/developed as both a bounty hunter and as the prince. Also given the fact that they filmed in a high altitude area where many developed altitude sickness, they did a pretty good job. I do wish many portions of the plot were better explained or handled. This drama is very angsty and heavy with a sad ending for both main leads however, if you're willing to go beyond that and understand the psychology behind the leads and their lives, it is worth the 49 episodes.

I think I liked it but I am confused

Let me start by saying I am confused. Overall I think I liked the show but I have never been so confused about a show in the past. Like exactly why did the emperor kill the eldest brother and how did Lord Bo and Fourth brother find out? Why and when did Ma Zhaixing become so ill she only had a few days to live? When did MA Zhaixing become a martial arts expert and stronger than everyone, I think that takes more than a couple lessons. It seems like they cut out major parts of the story and confused me to the point and rewatched episodes to see if maybe I missed something. Also I have never been a second lead person. Many people find them more interesting than the lead, but I always see them as serving a purpose and never route for them - except for this show. Ji Chong is by far the best character.

Story was about a boy (Lord Bo / Wolfie) raised by wolves who befriends a girl (Xing Er / Ma Zhaixing) circumstances separate the two and Wolfie is adopted (meaning tortured and abused) by the emperor. Eventually Zhaixing's family is killed by Lord Bo's troup. The two meet again, misunderstand one another, then Ji Ching comes into the story and saves the show. Eventually they are honest with one another but well I'll let you watch for the ending. Story is typical misunderstandings although Lord Bo is confusing, apparently he was helping people all along but there is no sign or evidence. They tell us he always was protecting the people from the crazy emperor, but we never see it or any proof so I guess we just have to believe it. What I liked was the comparison of Lord Bo and 4th brother's toxic relationship with their father the emperor and comparing that to Ji Chong and his relationship to his dad the King of Jin.

Character wise.... I didn't really understand Lord Bo and they never really fleshed him out. Everything was almost second hand so I cannot say I was attached to him at all. Zhaixing was typical FL, a little silly in the beginning and then after bed events becomes cold and sad all the time. I loved the characters of Yao Ji, who was imprisoned with Lord Bo and while she seems bad is really a good person. I also loved Princess Bao Na, she was a breath of fresh air and played the silly princess to perfection. She could border on getting annoying but then managed to pull back. Fourth brother was adorable as well. Which leads me to Ji Chong who I adore and want him to have his own show. We meet him as a care free bounty hunter and then eventual find out who he really is and why he became a roving bounty hunter. You ACTUALLY see him helping people and he supports EVERYONE and puts them first, helping all of them get what they want especially Zhaixing. I can say I'm glad she doesn't end up with him cause she didn't deserve him. Princess Bao Na had the best line talking to Ji Chong, roughly "You're the coolest man I've ever seen". I couldn't agree with her more

In all the acting was well done. Everyone acted their parts well. Lord Bo was a little confusing at times, but I blame the script more than his acting ... unless it was bad acting choices.

The OST is very good, although the music was a little distracting within the story and almost jarring at times. It does not seamlessly blend into the show like 'The Untamed" but I do enjoy the music and listen to it frequently.

Would I rewatch ... maybe for jJ Chong or to see if I can understand parts that seemed to be skipped.

Did I like it? Yes but maybe not for the reason's I was supposed to. Like at the end all I wanted was for Ji Chong to be happy so why I liked the show was proportionate to Ji Chong!

Really good drama

So I watched this drama for Xiao Zhan and got impressed but Darren Wang. The range he possesses my goodness i loved the way he portrayed innocence then hatred then menacing and then in love. The music is beautiful the acting of the whole cast is just awesome. I loved the transition of FL. How she learnt fighting different skills and the ending it was heart breaking but beautiful. The character of Ji Chong was damn sexy every time he came on screen i literally slowed the video to get a good look on him. Li Qin did a fantastic job in this and loved her emotion portrayal in different situations. The story always keeps you on edge of the seat and it is so interesting so painfully good. Beautiful creation by everyone. Also i loved the ways the two ml support and teaches the FL to fight on her own. That was darn good. A special thanks to costume department especially for Ji Chong loved them all. The music, acting, cinematography everything.

The Wolf grew teeth

Captivating from the start, Darren Wang's duality in this role is well played. He has an aura as Prince Bo and can exude both sex appeal and menace.
Li Qin also gives a good performance and her character's development from young and naive to one with responsibilities and regrets is quite melancholic.
I liked the mix of supporting characters, from light hearted to wicked. Xiao Zhan is, as always, a pleasure to watch, as his character returns to his obligations and surprises everyone.
The story itself is pretty good, with the usual scheming, plotting and treachery that surrounds the King and heirs, and mistrusting clans.
It's something of a melodrama and not a fluffy watch, although there is plenty of romance.
My only gripe is how Zhai Xing would not face up to the fact that her Wolf Boy was a person that no longer existed. She herself was changed by her experiences, yet she somehow insisted that You Wen was still an intact personality, as though stuck in time.
There's fighting, battles, laughs, cries, heart ache, redemption, regret, loyalty, everything! A good watch and one that could be revisited after a time, as there's so much going on and it's a relatively complex story.

Really good storyline overall

Really great storyline overall, but unfortunately a lot of unnecessary crap in the middle, and some boring painful episodes to watch at some point (around the 20 something). The 2 ML are really good and I was impressed by their performance (especially the transformation of the Wolf). Shame the FL was a bit annoying at times and her character not very consistent (I partly blame it on the script).
Still enjoyed most of it, and unlike most dramas, the main plot works until the end (I personally liked the ending very much). Wish they could edit a few useless scenes out and make it slightly shorter: would be perfect.

Not sure how I feel about the ending but over all really enjoyed it.

The main leads do a great job. Especially Xiao Zhan who made u love and root for his character even as you knew he wouldn't get the girl in the end. what a good dude. seriously watch the show just for his character. but also the main leads are great too and have good chemistry.

The side characters are great too! I fell in love with SO many of them. Zi Shen! Ma Jing! The 'night fiends'! all so great!

Plotwise I LOVE that you are (at first) never fully certain who you are supposed to be rooting for. everyone is morally complex and politically entangled. it makes for a great watch. I loved trying to guess what will happen next!

My only complaint was that the ending felt rushed and I'm not sure how I feel about the forced 2nd lead romance though I'm glad they are friends and Ji Chong got a happy(ish) ending. Still... nothing about the ending really ruined what came before it which sometimes is all you can ask for from a show like this. haha.

OH and the COSTUMES are amazing. Especially literally every single outfit Ji Chong wears. I want his wardrobe. And also Bo Wang's black feather cloak/cape.

I still recommend it. (Especially if you're a Xiao Zhan fan).

The romance of a wolf boy and a princess

I decided to do a review about this drama because when I finished it a couple of days ago, I got a mix of feelings, although it wasn't such an epic show as I imagined, it left me with a lot to say, and I didn't want to keep it just to myself So let's talk!
This review will be divided into three parts plus my personal opinion about the drama, for a better view of the show (in my humble opinion)
*If it contains some mistakes I apologize since I am not very fluent in English,

STORY:
I must say that I came to know The Wolf because of Xiao Zhan (0 surprises, I know) but what made me want to watch was the show itself, like, guys, did you see that trailer? It was so amazing, and that music in English (Never by Vivien Loh) was such a cherry on the top of the cake that I got very hyped even knowing that there wasn't any news about when would finally air.
The story follows a boy raised by the wolves who later is adopted by the King, becoming Lord Bo, and his childhood sweetheart, Ma Zhaixing, daughter of a government official. They meet again later, but she doesn't know that her precious "wolf boy" is involved in her family's murderer. The two share a special bond and throughout the story, we see the hurdles and ups and downs of their relationship.
The story itself is nothing new, aside from the male lead's background, is basically about revenge and misunderstandings, with the male lead pushing away his beloved for her sake preventing his enemies to use her as his weakness. Actually, I was expecting something different, but even so, I enjoyed it.
It was well writing with almost any holes in the storyline, but I can't say the same for the last couple of episodes, most probably it's because of the editing for the drama to fit in the 49 episodes (I was looking in the cast list and I can say that they cut a lot and in some moments you can notice this) so after a point, the story seems to become rushed, there are support characters that just come and go and you don't know what happened to them, the final episodes just focus on the main couple and forget about the other characters, and besides this, you start to wait for an explanation about what is happening with Lord Bo and what Zhaixing did and the show ends without explaining these things (or at least I didn't get it).
The good thing is that it is not an open ending and they tell you what happened with most of the characters, including the side ones, which I wasn't expecting btw. Some people might not like the ending, but I liked it. It can be heartbroken but at the same time is a proper ending if you see the bigger picture (I'm trying so hard not to spoil it)
CHARACTERS:
Overall, all of them are charismatic and well-acted, with great chemistry between the leads. Lord Bo is such a multidimensional character and Darren Wang's performance was amazing; he brought him to life, be he the young and naive wolf boy or the vicious Lord Bo. Li Qin is the same, you can really feel her happiness and pain in the scenes, and her transformation and growth were smoothly made.
I like the relation between the first and second male leads because usually they don't like each other or are enemies, but here they respect each other and, as Ji Chong said once for Lord Bo: "if we didn't like the same girl, I feel we would be good friends"
I feel I have to comment about the subordinates of Lord Bo too (the night fiends/fury), the three were so charismatic and their relationship with their master was so true and loyal, they were my favorite characters in the show, so I feel sad that they have screentime just in the first half of the drama and then it seems they were kind of forgot aside (I'm pretty sure their screentime and development are among the cuts) even being support roles, I think they deserved more development (especially the couple)
Another mention is Yao Ji, she was such an interesting and intense character with screentime cut. She is first introduced as Lord Bo's nemesis, but then we see that their relationship is more than this, she even says that she is the person that most understands him. I was anxiously waiting to see her past and story but what we got is just a superficial explanation.
TECHNICAL PART:
The cinematography is beautiful and the landscapes are breathtaking, the drama is from 2017 so through the video image you can see that it's not a new one; the CGI is not the best but, at least for me, it's not something that bothers you. The soundtrack is great and matches the moments, I'm still listening to them btw (but I have to say that I was a bit disappointed that "never" was just for the trailer, although I know that music in English in a period drama would be a little strange)
MY OVERALL OPINION:
Even with these problems, it is still a good drama worth to watch, but don't expect something epic or new, and if you don't like misunderstandings and some things that Lord Bo say and do with Zhaixing that can be seen as abusive, maybe this drama is not for you, but I still recommend if you like dramas with a serious storyline.

Generally good but with a few dull moments and some unrealistic human emotions

I suspect this drama relies mainly on Xiao Zhan and his popularity to be rated highly. Generally, this series is entertaining and dramatic with some dark scenes. The male lead and female leads are good-looking as well. The initial few episodes, especially the first, were somewhat dull but momentum picked up when the wolf boy appeared again as Prince Bo killing an erroneous general - this episode was dramatic. But the momentum dwindled in the last few episodes and became a bit haphazard - suddenly the Princess was drugged to become super-powerful - that sudden change did not bite - my reaction was - yah, sure - it did not give me that dramatic feeling.

Some episodes are quite dramatic but there are also some dull moments. The director must have been trying to evoke some romantic feelings with some lovey-dovey scenes but did not work with me - I just wanted the dramatic to move on. (The scene I could remember that evoke this sad romantic feeling in me was the pavilion re-union in Nirvana in Fire.)

This drama lacks realism. Not because it is centred around a boy brought up by wolves but the flip-flopping of human emotions. The male and female lead characters became sworn enemies. The hero was treating the heroine like a doormat in some episodes. But once the misunderstanding was cleared, they became lovey-dovey again. Life does not happen like this - when the hurt has driven deep, there is no turning back. It would have been much better if the story teller let each got on with their lives, especially since there were others waiting for them. (In the same way as Bai Qian and Li Jing in Ten Mile Peach Blossom - when Bai Qian told Li Jing: in the whole wide world, there is no turning back.)

But Chinese dramas like to stick on the theme of a lead character hurting someone they loved and drove them away in order to help them. And when they found out the truth, they made up and became more loving then before - so cliche. No, dearie, it does not happen this way and women have the memory of an elephant - be real.
