Guangzhou is in a state of political turmoil in the 1930s. Gangsters are on a rampage and opium trading becomes rampant. As they watch the illicit profits from opium trading escalate, the government forms the Anti-Smoking Bureau under the guise of suppressing opium, but the bureau is under the influence of Cheng Long-kwan (Elliot Ngok), the gang's kingpin. His eldest daughter Cheng Kau-mui (Sheren Tang) who is an unscrupulous person soon returns from Shanghai to reap the rewards. Mui meticulously plans her every move.
On the other hand, Lau Sing (Wayne Lai) is the leader of the Criminal Investigation Team. He has worked hard all his life to ensure an easy trail for his family, especially for his bed-ridden younger sister Lau Ching (Fala Chen). Despite his hot temper, he values friendship and brotherhood more than anything else. Once, he almost sacrificed his life to help his timid teammate, Pai Kuat (Pierre Ngo).
Meanwhile, the Japanese army invades China and Canton falls into the hands of the Japanese. Mui enters the darkest time in her life when her aunt Cheng Long-hei (Susan Tse) frames her. [Wiki]

Okay so I've been a hongkong drama lover ever since A LOOOONG TIME AGO. I love HK dramas because their cast and acting are flawless! The pacing is PERFECT. There's none of that dragging stuff that Korean and Chinese dramas do. They get right into the story and into the point! So all 31 episodes are worth it. Put your remote down because you won't even need to fast forward through any parts and if you do, you'll probably miss a huge hint of the events that happen later.. Anyways, enough with my raving about HK dramas... let's get into the review for this drama.
Story: 9/10 This story is well written! There's no plot holes with the perfect flow and all of the events tie together. It's been a while since I've watched this but all I can say was it was really good! You should go read a synopsis about this if you want more information because it's been years since i watched this...
Acting/Cast: 10/10 Sheren Tang is back! I've always liked her ever since The heavenly sword 1986 :). The other cast are awesome as well.
Music: They're soooooo good check some out.
Rewatch Value: 9/10 Definitely.
Overall: 9/10 i recommend :)
