This is not a polished series. There are heavy flaws and the audio/editing teams are a big reason for this. We have sentences where there random volume changes that breaks the flow (think: "heLLO my name IS JACKson"). The fight scenes are reduced to trash because of there's slashing when there is no slashing in scene; mellow background music when it should be intense). I get that this is a webseries, but there really should be no way for them to mess up this badly. They did not do any of our XNINE boys justice. The editing/audio completely ruined this series and I had to watch it without audio in order to really see that the actors/actresses did well. The main cast is made up of actors/actresses who have little experience in the industry and honestly the editing team really made them look terribly the first couple of episodes (before I noticed).

A light-hearted romcom drama you just enjoy it! No need to critically reviewing costume, makeup, CGI, etc., since it's a low-budget production. The drama is made mainly for publicity of the Chinese boy band X Nine where all members play as the constellation leaders. Adding the hilarious actress Zhao Lu Si into the cast, the story starts as a full comedy where she is the heroine Fei Fei with her modern skills and tricks tries to survive in a different time era, while pursuing her idol Jia Cheng whom become the Emperor Bei Tang Yi. Their romance blooms almost in a few last episode until he finds out that she is the master of Ophiuchius outcast clan, and stabbed her to death (or is she?). Meanwhile she makes friendships with the Emperor's fiance Yu Ran and Emperor's brother Tang Tang and also becomes the center of affection battle of the Emperor and his uncle Mo Ran. The emergence of another constellation Orion in the last few episodes as the culprit of chaos perfectly set the drama for the next season. Also noted here is the remarkable acting skills of Sean Xiao as the sly and brooding uncle, and actor Wu Jiang Cheng as the sweet brother. The side love story of the female General Fang and her fiance Wu Chen is cute as well.
The cast members sang beautiful OST, especially "It Seems to Fall Into The Sea of Love" cute duet of Jason Koo and Zhao Lu Si, "I Want to Give You" by XNine, "Stepping on Shadow" lovelorn song by Sean Xiao, and "Have Your World" cute duet by the second couple Chuyue Peng and Showna Xie. But I think they being from a music group, should put more songs in this drama.
A rewatchable drama since humor is main staple of the story (except the last part of the drama).

Season 1 is better than season 2

This is a review of both season 1 and 2.

I was shaking my head at this one. It had a great cast and could have been excellent. Instead it was confusing, campy, and disjointed.

Starts off campy and silly, goes full Game of Thrones red wedding and ends happy but disjointed, rushed, and unexplained.

Season 1 was interesting and silly. It was a rather common theme but with a slight twist. I like the concept but it lacked depth.

Season 2 started off well but the last 2 episodes seemed like the middle of a whole different drama. It ends rushed and confusing... but happy... I guess.

The sets were colorful but garish. The OST was catchy and sweet.

I wouldn't purposely watch this drama again.

A good historical drama

I love Zhao Lu Si (Rosy Zhao) so much and she was really fabulous in this drama.
I really like the storyline of the story, so I've checked out the show a couple of times because it was so good.

Right at the beginning, when Rosy Zhao flew into the water as Lou Fei Fei, I knew the series would be great.
I like the whole cast of the drama. From the main lead Jason Koo to the smaller supporting characters.
The only criticism I have is the end. Even though there is a second season of it, I found the ending really unsatisfied because it went pretty quickly for me personally. But otherwise the series is very successful and highly recommendable.

Fun sweet funny drama

I found the drama quite enjoyable with many funny scenes, especially the jail part which was downright hilarious. However, I wasn't entirely convinced by the casting of the Emperor. The chemistry between the lead actors felt lacking, especially in the final scene which left me feeling disappointed despite the happy ending. It was too cold, and the actor seemed to struggle with portraying a character madly in love. Additionally, there were a few inconsistencies in the script, and some major explanations were missing, leaving me feeling puzzled.

Overall, the drama was fun to watch, but I strongly feel that without Lusi Zhao, the show would have been a big flop.

During the beginning, the drama was boring and I had barely any interest in it but decided to watch it since I had nothing else to watch and Xiao Zhan was in it. After getting more into the drama, I started really liking it but didn't really feel the emotions of the actors but maybe it was just because of the script.

The actors seemed pretty good and I also became a fan of some of them as well. But during the fighting/battling scenes, I feel like there are not enough sound effects like in other dramas. There were also some (very few) scenes where Dali (Shengnan) was fighting somewhere in the first maybe 10 episodes (forgot which episode) that can be clearly seen that she just swiped her sword at people and had no sound effects along with it. Yes, I do know that people usually don't actually attack each other but making it feel more real or trying to make it more not visible (or just making it feel like she actually attacked them) and having sound effects for all of it would be great.

The actors did a great job expressing their emotions (in my opinion) and although I didn't exactly feel their emotions, it was still pretty great, and don't really have anything to dislike about it.

The music was great but there seemed like there wouldn't be many songs popping up since there's been like only 2 songs in total so far that's included in the drama which is ok, but I kind of prefer a few more.

I'd most likely rewatch this if I really don't have anything else to watch or just haven't watched this after a while.

TLDR: This series was really cute, fluffy and light and the leads had really good chemistry. If you're looking for a breezy and fun drama, this could be enjoyable for you. Overall, I enjoyed both seasons of this show and will continue it if a 3rd season was released :)

I haven't seen too many C-dramas so i'm not sure what the production value is normally but this series did fall on the lower end of the spectrum. The set pieces felt like a student production and the CGI was poorly done. However, it does add to the comedic tone of the series so it could've been intentional. I actually really enjoyed the plot because it was outrageous and at times laugh out loud funny. This drama will definitely give you second lead syndrome with Moran !! Although the kiss scenes weren't anything special (literally just pecks on the lips), the two main leads had really good chemistry and it felt like they were a real couple. Their scenes together will sometimes make you go "awww" or squeal with joy. I just wish the development of them becoming a couple could've been handled better as it felt extremely sloppy towards the beginning of the drama. I've seen both seasons and if there was a third season, I would definitely watch it. Even by the end of the second season, there were a lot of questions unanswered and they never explained the time slip and why it happened. Worth the try - I'd give it a few episodes to see if you adjust to the tone and style of the show. If it doesn't work out for you then I don't think it's worth continuing.

Watch comedic value not for typical drama plot

When I first started this I thought it was super funny and silly. But as it went on I felt like it began to drag. Same type of humor over and over again. I even forgot what the plot was. I think they wanted to do too much but then it blew up in their face. Characters added then forgotten about and plot holes.
But with this I feel like you’re not watching it for the plot really. It’s for the comedic value like a sitcom or something. Also everyone had two outfits the entire time maybe one and a shawl
The OST is very cute and majority of the main actors sing in it. Thumbs up for when the actors sing the songs that play during their scenes.
But I do recommend it I mean don’t expect this to be like the kdrama goblin. It’s more like romance of tiger and rose

However I was really annoyed at how the episodes were total of 20 something mins long but had like 6 mins of intro and credits then like 45 seconds of the last scene from the previous episode. I wish they would have just combined two episodes together

A star is born

The story is rather complex, that's why they needed two seasons yo complete it, and I believe it would have been a greater succesd if Xiao Zhan played the ML, since his sexappeal and romantic prowess is by far better than the emperor's.
FL character was well played and did fullfilled the expectations of innocent, playfull, sensitive hurt - vdry expressive without any of the cringey stuff seen in so many dramas.
Considering the age of the actrors / actress, I think we can surely say " a star is born" and we expect from them a galaxy of good dramas !

Expected nothing, found gold!!!

I mainly watched this because of Xiao Zhan: I will divide this review on whether is worth the time or not.

1: Yess, it is. because Xiao is in there as main cast. And not only that, he did an awsome job. One gets to love his character A LOT, more even thn the main male lead. So, he gets a decent amount of sreen time with a lovely elegant role.
If you have nothing else to watch, this drama is pure comedy. I laughed until my face was in pain.Thats why I actually watched the whole thing.

Cons:
You may get 2nd ale lead syndrome. To be honest at the end it was ok, since I rooted for the other fmale actress.

For a historial drama, it lacks a lot of seriousness. The plot is ok-ish but they I think they never intended it to be serious. As I said before, it is pure comedy and it is not intended to be taken seriously. But dont forget it is till a chinese series, it will also make you feel sad at times.

Loved this series, It was a nice break from the heavy kowtow and rules from the historical dramas. There were some very hilarious scenes. I still am chuckling about them. The maid quarter scene and the game night with the emperor come to mind. Laughing out loud is good right? The acting was very good and the timing and sense of the series was very good. Present meets past with a refreshing take on palace life. Love story with a twist. "Your not allowed to say another mans name." Definitely watch Season 2.

The Male Lead character looked utterly disinterested in everything

If there was an award to be given for, Bland Face, Unresponsive, and Inactive Male Lead with zero expressions it should go to the ML in this show. Even when the scene called for it, the Male lead didn't show any expression a lover would show for their partner. The FL here got the short end of the stick, and the ML lucked out.

The people around him were more caring for the FL then he ever was. He always had to be coaxed into reaching out to her, even when he had done her wrong. I wanted to like this character but he doled out affection as if it cost him his life.

The story for the ML was also not written well, although it was a 42 episode long arc, they failed to show all the good things he did for the FL, instead they kept telling us that he did it. That didn't engender me to him.

There were far too many characters to remember by name. I liked Xie Yan Ran the most, for a supporting character she is one of the best I have seen. Pretty straightforward, not blaming FL for all her problems, and a great friend to her.

Now, let's not even get started with the ending. While the lead couple gets their happy ending, the story is not clearly explained. Just a lackluster ending.
