Rebel Princess resembles a lot like Ming Lan
Both females leads are strong characters who play a important role in the palace politics
and FL's in both dramas fail to marry their first love but they completely overcome it and devote themselves to the ML hmmm
In both dramas ML's are generals who gains favors from the emperors and they both act dead to win over their enemies

15 yr old marries general turned prince against her wishes and learns to love him. Love like the galaxy is more about the family dynamics and the choices we are forced to make. While The Rebel Princess is more about the political issues and power struggles in the palace. LLTG also has some political aspects specially in this part.

1. Both male leads are warriors/generals, I.e always have to go to war
2. An uncommon thing in dramas is ML and FL don’t have that much screen time together
3. Main reason why they don’t have much screen time together is because both have to serve their own fate…. They were born with heavy responsibilities. I.e it is clear that they have a greater purpose in life regardless of male or female.

Both have strong female leads who are princesses who do their utlmost to guard the country for the people and peace.
ML in both of them are generals with loyal brothers whom they go through everything.
In TLB FL cross dress knows martial art and war strategies but in TRP the FL doesn't know how to fight but use the other way as a wangfei of the ML to deal against enemies and her status as the princess of the country.
You get the same feel when watching both of them

-Plot lines are almost similar, but ML is more powerful in TRP.
- Both FLs are spoiled princesses who are cousins to the emperor.
- Both FLs are predetermined to be empresses but political mishaps make them end up with generals who would dye for their nation.
- Foreign nation prince lusts for FLs.
- Both FLs have health issues which prevents them from getting pregnant.
- FL acts as regent in RFY where as ML in TRP.
- FLs protects the throne by saving the royal child.

Both drama :
The main characters are generally adequately written.
The females leads are strong characters.
The male leads are both also smart.
Awesome chemistry between the two leads.
Both beautifully-crafted drama.

The Rebel Princess - Female lead's mother is the sister of the emperor.
Jun Jiu Ling - Female lead's father is the brother of the emperor (The current emperor killed her father so she wanted revenge.)

It’s the politics and the family backstabbing that made me connect the two. In NIF the ML is the center of the drama but in TRP it’s the FL. But in both cases they’re navigating this utter mess of family politics and the throne and it’s very gripping stuff. TRP has more romance in it but it’s still heavy on the politics of the empire.

Shout out to secret passages in both, too ?

Similar
- Male lead is a competent and ruggedly handsome general in his 30s-40s
- He is not a noble (if I recall correctly).
- He is falsely accused of being a rebel.
- Female lead is resourceful.
- Female lead forced to accept an arranged marriage.

Differences
- Male lead in The Rebel Princess treats the female lead with more respect, which I really appreciated.
- Obviously, the female lead in the The Rebel Princess is a princess. She's not a lowly illegitimate child like Moxi in Gone with the Rain.
- Higher production values and gorgeous costumes in The Rebel Princess.
- Longer drama, more focus on palace politics.

The road to becoming an empress is paved with treachery. Ruyi is a consort who quickly learns to navigate the treacherous politics of the royal court and move up the ranks.
After becoming Empress, Ruyi still must survive the many conspiracies against her. Her relationship with Emperor Qianlong becomes eroded even when Ruyi is able to overcome the challenges. Can Ruyi maintain her role as Empress under such difficult circumstances?

I suggest watching The Rebel Princess if you enjoyed LLTG.
Both have:
- Cerebral plots
- Good cinematography, set design, OST, costumes, and overall production value
-Serious tension between ML and FL (total power couple)
-Strong, stoic, and feared General (who's a total softy for his woman)
-Small but fiercely intelligent and resourceful FL
-Palace politics (Rebel Princess is more palace politics heavy than LLTG).

Both are centered around a female lead who has to give up her first love in favor of a political marriage. The dramas are relatively heavy on the politics, but are truly driven by their romances. Despite having more focus on the drama and court scheming, both also have their fair share of action and battles. Empress Ki has more interesting characters, while the The Rebel Princess has really gorgeous production.

The Rebel Princess (2021) and The Princess Royal (2024) share some similarities in their stories. Both empresses in these two drama series have similar characters, they are focused on supporting their birth families, which troubles their kings due to this family lineage issue. Additionally, the main characters are both princesses who enter into politically arranged marriages with husbands from humble backgrounds. Watching The Princess Royal gives you a slight sense of déjà vu because of The Rebel Princess or vise versa.
