I don't know how to start this review. I want to write a long review so that I can express all my feelings about this masterpiece but I know no one reads long reviews anyways. But I really want to look back at this review a few years from now and remember this sensation of infinite pain, love, tragedy and relief. For those of you who won't read this review and haven't watched it, P L E A S E W A T C H I T. I guarantee you it will be one of the best dramas you've ever watched and it might change your life and perspective on things, like it did with me.
So now, let me get into this review.

A little background: I'd never watched any xianxia drama (not even historical ones) and since I know many chinese shows are like that, I stayed away from them, because I feared not understanding the plot and not connecting to the characters. Nonetheless, when I saw the drama was one of the top-rated of all time I decided to check its profile page here on mydramalist and the plot really attracted me. I had no idea it was adapted from a BL novel (I like bl dramas a lot!!). But then I saw one of the actors is Wang Yibo and I remembered that name. I found out he was actually a member from a group I really like (Uniq) and I got even more intrigued. After reading some of the reviews and comments and realising the two main leads were supposed to be a couple, I was hooked. Even though it's portrayed as a bromance, I don't mind it because I love close friendships too.

I watched the first episode and I was LOST. I didn't know what was going on, who was friends with who, what cultivation was, why everyone hated the cinamonroll that is wei wuxian. The names confused me too. I left some comments on this page lol they serve as proof.
But as the drama progressed, things were starting to get clearer and clearer. After episode 10 I was already fully immersed in the story and I lived each moment of each episode very intensely. I don't want to write spoilers in this review but the way they structured this show is so well made because we get to know the characters and their intentions very well before jumping back to the present time. It's different from the novel and I think it's a good different.

I'm not sure this is the best acting I've ever seen. Honestly, I would have very much preferred the actors could use their own voices because a big part of the actor's abilities lay on their voice. I think some actors overdid their acting and some of the movements were strangely executed, like JiangCheng. I also think the team should have payed more attention to the cinematography. Even if this wasn't a high budget drama they could have worked with the lightening and the framing a bit more. I think the lack of editing was more noticeable on the last episodes. I liked the sentimental part of the last five episodes but I couldn't understand why they were in that situation and didn't run away??? Anyways, I don't want to spoil so I won't talk too much about it but I did find it weird. Some camerawork and editing could be better.

Although technically the drama wasn't the best (probably due to its low budget, most probably), it was still beautiful. The actors are S T U N N I NG, each and every one of them. Like, I didn't even know where to look!! The main leads are sooooo charming, in different ways. Our mesmerising Lan Zhan (Wang Yibo) is sublime. His facial expressions and body language were so interesting to watch. Very very very talented. And then there's XiaoZhan as Wei Ying, who literally went through hell for being too good for his world. Their chemistry is mind-blowing. The smiles they give at each other, the intimate looks, the subtle touches. To me their relationship was very obvious and I'm actually thankful they did it this way; somehow, it worked better than any BL I've ever watched.
In my opinion, every side character was soooo interesting!! The villains were great, the goodies were great, the moodies too (JiangChen, I'm talking about you). Personally, my favorite villain was the last one (don't want to spoil anyone lol). I just really like the actor, he looks so cute like what???? And the character was the most interesting to me. XueYang was just cruel, in my opinion. But I'm reading the novel now so I'll probably understand the characters a lot better!!

I finished watching this drama on Saturday and I've been writing this review ever since then hahaha This was the hardest review I've ever written because of the drama's length and my feelings about it. But, in conclusion, I'd just like to say that this drama really did change something in me and my perception of good and evil and I think the script is simply genius for making us like the guy who was supposed to be bad and how restraining the "good side" can be. I'll definitely rewatch this in the near future, probably this year or early next year if I'm being honest. When I'm done reading the novel I'll just watch interviews of the cast, suffer on twitter and wait for the MOVIES THAT ARE BEING RELEASED VERY SOON!!! Being a fan of this show is not bad at all.

There are certain stories that you read or watch and then immediately want to tell all your friends about it because it is so special that you want everyone to experience it. That is what The Untamed is, it is a story that features so much emotion and becomes its own entity the moment you begin watching. I watched the series a few months after it aired after seeing several posts about it and finally having the opportunity to sit down and watch. The story took a few episodes to really capture me but once it did, I was hooked. My family members are not fans of the genre but even they were captivated by the story.
This is a love story no matter how much it wasn't supposed to be viewed that way. Love is the most important theme in the story and it isn't necessarily just romantic love but familial. I recommend this story to anyone who wants an all consuming show.

A Masterpiece of love and emotions

Such a wonderful and mindblowing series...Best Chinese drama, I have ever seen??...
I would even say it as a masterpiece...It's totally worth...
I can watch this again and again without any hesitation...

Wei Ying and Lan Zhan are the apples of my eyes...Extraordinary performance and the chemistry between them is so beautiful and serene that they are truly made for each other...Can't take my eyes off them whenever they are on-screen...They are just awesome...I can praise these two for doing such a fantabulous job...I ship them madly...They are like real soulmates...Calm, compassionate and caring nature of Lan Zhan along with the notorious, lively and enthusiastic Wei Ying carry the show with great performances and their love for each other transcends everything...
Darlings Xiao Zhan & Wang Yibo have been beyond perfect for the lead roles...They became my sweethearts...

This series made me cry, laugh; filled me with love...It has every emotion packed in such a wonderful manner...
Throughout the series, various emotions have flooded me...
Couldn't control my emotions...Such an awesome lot...

Every cast member has portrayed their characters beautifully...
The story is a perfect blend of bromance, love, trust, family, friendship, comedy, mystery, horror...

Music is one of the greatest advantages of the series...Such soul-soothing and mesmerizing tracks...Those tracks justs fill the heart with nice emotions...

The only disappointment is there has been no public display of romantic elements between Wei Ying and Lan Zhan...
Yet the love between the leads has been beautifully portrayed...Couldn't ask for more due to gov restrictions...

Thank you so much, makers and the cast for such an amazing series...
Special thanks to the author of the original novel...
Hats off for such a lovely masterpiece...

I just finished watching and honestly, I feel empty. I started watching this show because my friend forced me to, and only got into it around episode 10, but after that I was hooked. It makes no sense in the beginning, but you kinda have to go along with it, then later rewatch the first episodes and everything will seem way better. I really loved this show, complicated plot and all. Honestly I was quite disappointed that there was no confession, so we have no real proof that they ended up together, but, there were cute scenes that will make you squeal. Now after finishing it I don't know what to do because there really is nothing quite like it. Just like when it ends your heart will be ripped out as you wish for more.. TT

Btw I'm buying a flute bcs of this... ( a black one with a red tassel that says Yiling Patriarch to be more exact).

I was first introduced to this drama by my Chinese friend. I'm more of a Korean drama person, but I decided to check it out. Though, I was only a few minutes into it before I instantly grew bored and dropped it. But at the beginning of 2020, I was reminded of it again, and I had nothing else to watch, so I tried to give The Untamed another go. I'm so thankful that I did. I was so hooked on the drama that I finished all fifty episodes in just a week and watched around ten episodes everyday. I fell in love with Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji and they meant the world to me. When Wei Ying died, I couldn't stop sobbing for twenty minutes after his death, and I even cried myself to sleep that night. I rewatched multiple scenes from the drama over and over, and I cried every time I rewatched Wei Ying's death scene. When I finished the drama, I realized I couldn't move on from it, so I rewatched it all over again. When I finished it again, I just had to rewatch for a third time. This was one of my all-time favourites.

This drama is worth watching. I already finished watching the drama long ago but i feel like i need to let you guys know how good it is (for those who are planning to watch and also those who
currently watching).

I came here to write the review right after watching the drama 'Legend of fei' in which Wang Yibo plays the male lead. It's so crazy how he is full of expressions and is funny in that drama whereas in the untamed he appears cold and yet caring. So it clearly shows that he is a good actor.

Xiao zhan is also a great actor. The way he portrays the fun and crazy side of wei wuxian is incredible. I was so engrossed in the drama that i couldn't even sleep at night. Every episode is refreshing, there are new plots and i always enjoy the fights. Even more, when Lan zhan supports wei ying in the fight.

It's the third time I'm re watching it and i can't get enough! I hope i see them both in a drama working together and teasing each other behind the scene. We viewers are waiting for it!

An amazing series

This series is beautiful in every way. the characters and storyline are perfectly set. The actor's chemistry is amazing. This is close to the book and was a great action, character growth, and chemistry. The only down part was that it was censored without the real beauty of it being BL. It is sad that China is still living in the dark ages and censored anything of BL. This would be a 10 easily if they allowed for it to be fully shown and shown the right way with the beauty of BL. The bromance was nice, but you always felt you were missing the true BL of even a tender kiss would have made all the difference. The two main actors were amazing playing the characters and you felt the growth and development of their love. The books are even better. Please China grow up and stop censoring the BL world and welcome it.

The story was good for the most park and keep the feel of the story from the novel and other works but I wished it would have focused more on the actual BL relationship and not just a bromance. I came from the manga adaptation of the novel and was expecting a similar story and I got that with just less of the Bl aspects of it. It gives all of the regular basic that you were expecting and is a good show to watch if you like the Franchise. The acting was very good and so was the production and music of it. I recommend if you just want to watch the story and a bromance.

THIS DRAMA. THIS DRAMA RIGHT HERE.

If you came for the BL, sorry there is none (but if you watch on viki people insist it is which i just go with it cus like lowkey) anyways, this drama is a MASTERPIECE, it easily beat all my all time favorite dramas by one episode.

Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo's acting is on point. Yibo plays the charecter, Lan Wangji and he is quite a tsundere! Yibo is perfect at keeping that straight face like all through the drama, and through that straight face he shows emotions through his eyes, like when he's angry, drunk (HE'S SO CUTE), and worried etc.

Xiao Zhan as Wei Wuxian was just perfect, he showed the charecter Wei Wuxian's clumsy, sly, cute nature perfectly.

The story is amazing and doesn't have any fillers so we know what's happening, but there are some time skips but it gets explained later. I recommend watching this drama 100% like please, i honestly came for BL at the beginning but i stayed because it was so good and the cast is so good. GOOD LUCK !!

One of the best dramas I have ever watched. The actors are so good and it's hard to believe that they are "new actors". With just one glance they express so much emotion and it's better than 1000 words.

Really recommend watching it! It is very touching, sad and funny. You get to see the characters develop and change throughout the story which is very satisfying to watch. Very few dramas make an impact on me and this one definetly did and many scenes were so touching that I could not hold my tears back and I will definitely re-watch this. I had put this drama on hold for quite a while but finally decided to watch it and it was the best decision in my life. I cried, I laughed and I learned a lot.
