One Cut of the Dead

Both were shot using really long takes. One Cut of the Dead is a comedy about a zombie movie shot in one take. The Villainess has long takes shot to give the illusion that it was done in one take. The Villainess is much more darker though.

Both are comedic zombie movies that make use of specific stylistic choices. Theres also a central father-daughter relationship in both.

Fish Story is obviously not a zombie movie but the ending of that movie is as epic as in One Cut of the Dead. Both are cult classic in the making.

Both are love letter for filmmaking but more importantly shows how good Japan can be when they decide to think outside the box and get those creative juice flowing.

This recommendation may seem somewhat orthodox, as these movies are really different in plot and genre. However, i still find them pretty sinilar in the sense that to both theres much more than what they seem like in the beginning. Both movies feature a little plot twist so its best to go in uninformed. ((They start off as (fake)documentaries, however [spoiler] also focus on the directors and tell the story of how these documentaries came to be.))
