Gotta love how love turns hate on its head
If you’re looking for a BL with tension, humour, sizzling chemistry (from all the couples but the leads - just wow) and a pretty decent plot line then look no further. The story centres round Type, a homophobic first year university student who’s roommate Tharn turns out, to his utter horror, to be gay. Through some very amusing scenes, several twists and turns and a pretty nasty bout of flu that leaves Type both delirious and loose lipped Tharn discovers the reason for Type’s hatred of him and all that he appears to stand for.
Eventually they end up in a relationship (though you have to really squint at the logic Type uses that ultimately ends up with them being closet boyfriends) which is put to the test by Tharn’s best friend Lhong who is not all he appears to be.
Great production values, excellent acting from all corners and some very sizzling moments. What’s not to like.
Would I watch again? Probably as Type’s prickly yet cute character and Tharn’s crooked grin are rather pleasant to watch.

Ratings too high.
I really think a lot of people have watched this drama just for the spiciness of it.Plot is problematic, most of the characters are problematic, it has unnecessary drama and it talks about topics on a way you should never talk about them.
The only thing remarkable of this series is Mew's and Gulf's chemistry and acting. They are amazing together and I really think they deserve main roles on a better constructed series.
I didn't even bother to watch the second season (7 years of love) because it was just a bunch of making out scenes with no plot at all.

Great Chemistry; Weak Plot
"TharnType: The Series" left me with mixed feelings. While the premise of two polar opposites falling in love, especially with one of the characters harboring a profound hatred for gay people due to trauma from his childhood, is cliche, the show does deliver on it pretty well so for people who enjoy this type of storyline, they won't be dissapointed. However, it should be noted that storyline is intense, and it’s not your typical sweet romance; it dives into heavier themes like overcoming prejudice, personal healing, and exploring one’s sexuality. From the start, the chemistry between Mew Suppasit, who plays Tharn, and Gulf Kanawut as Type is undeniable. Their connection feels genuine and raw, drawing me into their relationship and making it easy to get swept up in their emotions. Mew and Gulf bring a captivating physicality to their scenes, and I was genuinely impressed by how well they embodied these roles. They manage to make the progression of their romance believable, despite some of the more controversial scenes. Their chemistry is the glue holding the show together, and it’s no surprise that they quickly gained a huge fanbase from this series alone.
That said, "TharnType" is not without its flaws. One of the hardest parts for me was the way certain sensitive themes were handled. Type’s homophobia, a result of his past trauma, is understandable in context, but some of the methods Tharn uses to break down those walls felt manipulative or even problematic. The story relies on a lot of intense, sometimes harsh, interactions between the two, which can feel uncomfortable to watch. I had to remind myself that this series was aiming to portray a more intense and complex relationship rather than a straightforward love story, but still, some scenes felt hard to justify. If you are looking for a simple, healthy romance, please skip this show. Both Tharn and Type are problematic in their own ways and it was difficult for me to forget how Tharn basically forced himself on Type because he wasn't happy with the way Type acted and how Type agreed to go on a date with a girl, even going as far as going to her home, while he was still sleeping with Tharn. These two aren't very likable characters in my opinion and it says a lot about how good the acting was for me to be able to enjoy the show even with them as the leads.
The plot occasionally feels rushed, with moments that seem glossed over, and at times I wished there was a more nuanced approach to addressing Type’s trauma and emotional growth. Despite this, the story’s arc does show his gradual transformation, as he begins to confront his own fears and prejudices, largely due to Tharn’s unwavering patience. It’s satisfying to see the progress Type makes, even though I wished it had been portrayed with a bit more sensitivity.
Beyond the main plot, "TharnType" also does a decent job at portraying friendships and secondary relationships. The supporting characters add depth to the main couple’s story, especially Techno, Type’s best friend, who often serves as a voice of reason. The series might not be perfect, but it’s refreshing to see a BL drama attempting to tackle tough themes and give its characters complex backstories.
Overall, "TharnType: The Series" is both engaging and polarizing. The romance is fiery and passionate, and the leads bring a lot of heart to their roles, making it easy to get invested in their journey. However, I’d recommend approaching it with an open mind and some caution, especially given the series’ more intense moments. While I found it compelling, it’s not for everyone, and it’s definitely a story that pushes boundaries within the BL genre. If you’re a fan of love stories that delve into complex issues and don’t shy away from the darker side of relationships, "TharnType" is worth the watch – just be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster.

TW for sexual assault and homophobia
This was one of the first BLs I ever watched, and honestly, it was traumatising and off putting. As an SA victim, this show is literally so triggering to watch, and also as a member of the LGBT community, it's so uncomfortable. So if you're sensitive to these topics, please do yourself a favour and don't watch it. But also just in general, don't watch it. It's so strange. There is no excuse to force yourself on someone, even if that person is homophobic and "deserves it" (no one does), and in what world is sexual assault going to change anyone's opinion on gay people???Was this review helpful to you?

Ok, listen, it's 2 am and I dropped this drama after the 4th episode. And I'm SO mad.Yes, it does have steamy scenes that are fulfilling empty BL fans hearts.
Yes, the actors are good looking.
Superficially speaking, it's good.
But the script is a NIGHTMARE. It's soaked in ignorance and is overall a sad excuse of recherche.
I am very aware that it's a fictional story but that won't dismiss the drama of credibility. Jesus take the wheel.
This drama draws a very toxic and very wrong picture of very serious issues, such as child abuse, rape, lack of consent, the LGBTQ+ community and homophobia.
Sorry not sorry to crush your thirsty dreams but a rape victim won't easily sleep with another person without any hint of hesitation. In reality it's a long, frustrating and painful process that has been - for the sake of sexualization - completely ignored in this drama.
An abuse victim also won't tell someone they barely know about their dark past. I'm not saying it's impossible but highly unlikely.
The dialogue between the two main leads regarding their "tragic pasts" was superficial. There comes a certain depth in the choice of words with such experiences, but - I blame the script - the actors couldn't portray it accordingly.
Next thing on my list is the problematic portrayal of LGBTQ+ people. Yes, there are snowflakes that abuse the movement for childish and stupid actions. But I highly doubt that the shown examples are in any way common. It only fuels the fight between the two fronts. If they sincerely wanted to leave a positive note on LGBTQ+, they failed.
Another thing: consent. Dear lord. Who needs consent if the actors are hot. Who needs consent if the scene turns me on.
I NEED CONSENT. And you need it too. Lakorns and ML Chinese projects tend to throw morals and consent out of the window and the fans can't shut up about how hot it is.
I said it a thousand times and I will say it again: it's a dangerous message to send. Especially to younger, inexperienced
viewers. No, it's not okay, to grope a sleeping or drunk person. Especially if they faced sexual abuse in their past. And don't even try to protect Tharn. There were red flags everywhere. Types possibly abusive past was part of a discussion with No. And still, he decided to just "claim" this person. It's wrong. Seriously twisted.
Back to the pathetic script: it would have been better to use more and longer flashbacks to emphasize the trauma
Not just empty monologuing. The character did develop but in a way the viewers couldn't really take part in. There were literally scenes where Type said X and in the next he completely changed his mind to Y. Sometimes I felt as if they cut half of the scenes off.
I'm done with this.
Tldr; I believe their display of psychological trauma was not satisfying. The lack of understanding and recherche is outrageous.
If all they wanted, was to show a steamy romance between two guys they could have done so without trying to make it pseudo deep.
It sends a wrong message. And those who have to pay for it once again are real victims of abuse.
What a shame.

Not a show for babies!
Let me make one thing very clear: you are allowed to like a series even if it depicts problematic behaviour/characters!There are a lot of people on here who seem to rate this show based on how healthy the relationship of the protagonists is instead of the actual quality of the show, which I find questionable. I mean, do Tharn and Type do shit to each other they really shouldn't be doing? YES! But is that type of behaviour, as so many people here seem to claim, romanticised? No! Depicting toxic behaviour in a romcom does not equal romanticising it. We see both characters struggling with their own behaviour throughout the whole show and growing from the experiences. Tharn and Type from episode 1 are not the same Tharn and Type we see in the last episode. What this series depicts is very flawed characters who fall in love with each other and despite doing horrible things to each other manage to forgive each other and built a healthier relationship - something that a lot of people in real life experience!
And apart from all of that, compared to other thai BL, Tharntype actually has a good production and actors who (mostly lol) know what they're doing. The screenwriting was also on point! We don't have to deal with any uninteresting side-characters or bullshit side-plots. The focus of this show is on the main couple always which really helps to keep the viewers on their toes from the first to the last second.
This series is high quality entertainment! I totally get that it's not for everyone, especially not for people who prefer their romance shows to be soft and fluffy (and healthy lol), but nobody should be saying that this show is overrated just because they don't like to see flawed and problematic characters in a relationship.
Sadly, the world isn't a fucking rainbow and so isn't Tharntype, but as long as you don't expect that, this show might make you very very happy as it made me and many other people.

Best on-screen chemistry
This one was my first Thai Drama and I (except for one part, which was made a little more acceptable by Gulfs inability to control himself) absolutely loved it. However I purposely waited to write a review until I had watched some different ones to be able to compare. This one is still one of my favourites.I will not say anything about the actors ability to act on their own, they were surely great however what seems more important to me with this Drama is the undeniable Chemistry that Mew (tharn) and Gulf (Type) deliver on screen (and also off screen for that matter). Never have I ever shipped any actors based on their acting together. But these two are just on another level and I can not help myself but love them together.
This is definitely supported by the amount of skinship in this series, that seemed extraordinarily natural (again thanks to their amazing chemistry), especially compared to other BL dramas that sometimes tend to be a little awkward when it comes to intimate interactions, as far as I have experienced. This one definitely took on screen action to another level.
Lastly let’s talk a bit about the plot. Honestly the plot probably wasn’t all that well thought out on it’s own. But that kind of made it a little more entertaining and fun to watch. However, all parts fit well together and left almost no loose ends. Everything that happened was in line with how the characters were portrayed.
The side characters were nicely chosen as well and played nicely into the main plot.
In the end the story even managed to surprise me, even though I‘m usually good at foretelling how plots evolve. What I also don‘t want to leave unmentioned is the great job the writer did with character development throughout the series especially on Types part. We can actually see him grow and change throughout the series.
Definitely watch it if you haven’t yet!

I know that this drama has many reviews but i have to add my opinions. I almost didnt watch it because i saw comments telling me that this is overrated drama and they have toxic relationship but i am glad that i did watch it because it has amazing story and you know, i love stories. So i know why you love it so much, but i also know that maybe Tharn´s actions wasnt entirely right and yes, he made hickeys to Type when he was drunk, but he didn´t rape him as i saw in the drama The effect. Then i cant say anything bad about him because touching hair and forehead or kiss on face when he was sleeping is nothing bad even when they werent in relationship yet. You know that these actions mum or dad do their children so for me its alright. I love this story, although there are some flaws. So if you wanna watch it or not, its up to you. The story needs work
I think that overall it is an amazing show with a great cast. However I would be lying if I said that it shows Tharn raping Type. As much as I wanted it to be a great show. Like a lot of other shows it shows rape as not a big deal. :( I don't like that part at all especially the trauma Tharn causes Type to relive. I think 100% that was rape and that it should not be condoned. However I do understand that Tharn helps Type but I still think that it should show Tharn regretting his actions. Also the part where no one calls the authorities on Lhong is still a little questionable. However I could see if maybe they could understand a little because of his childhood why he was like that. His childhood however still does not excuse what he did to Tar though. Please have that boy in therapy :( . Acting of course with Mew was a 100%. Other than all that it was a great show. I have re watched this show at least five times. Was this review helpful to you?
