Something is wrong with this drama XD Something called... Wu Dan Dan
Let's be fair, I like Shun Xi, but it seems like every time he has a highschool/real life drama where he's a student (except in Journey Across the Night, that one was perfect in everything) he gets a character that just doesn't do justice to his acting and a female lead that is hateful. In this drama, there's almost no character I like except for Lin Sa, the stepmother to wu dan dan, who's doing her damn best given the situation she's been dealt with. The Xiao Dong's Dad is annoying although I can understand where he's coming from. A lot of his scenes are hard and cringy to watch just because I think it portrays well the struggle of an immigrant parent who don't speak English at all in the US. But the kids are infuriating especially Wu Dan Dan. She's such a spoiled rich kid who only cares about her own feelings , she's whiny, throws tantrums all the time and put everyone in danger. 13 episodes in, she still has not changed her little bitch behaviour. She's so unlikable it's painful to watch any scenes she's in because you only want some adult to beat some sense into her. Because of her personality, it's hard to like Xiao Dong (Shun Xi) too because he's paired with her for god knows why lol. There's really nothing to like about her, so why does this guy who's overall not a bad kid pines over such a brat XD. It makes me lose respect for him. Their relationship lacks chemistry, she's abusive, manipulative and spoiled so it's very very triggering to watch Shun Xi's character being head over heels for her especially since as mentioned before... there's just nothing to sustain their relationship. She does nothing for him and he's running like a puppy everytime she calls, it's so wtf. He almost got expelled, repatriated to China or killed because of her and I fail to see how he doesn't connect the dots on how his relationship with her is damaging everything around him and for him. Overall, there are some very rare few moments that I found interesting and I like how they didn't shirk on addressing the danger of guns in the US. However, I believe more than half those characters need serious therapy to address their issues lol, it's just toxicity all around. The other rare good point is that the English speaking scenes are not nearly as bad as some other C Drama, so I'm impressed with that. Shun Xi's accent is not bad at all and he wasn't dubbed for it, so it's real nice. However, the English is still glitchy at times, the dialogues not organic and some of the foreigners actors are clearly not actors because they can't act XD. So is this drama worth the watch? Nah, don't put yourself through that pain. You'll just be angry that nobody is given a legit ass whooping. Even Shun Xi's cute face ain't worth seeing him doing his damn best to deliver a scene with a co star who plays such an evil spawn XD.Was this review helpful to you?
