LOVE THE DRAMA AND THE ACTOR !!
I think to understand each character without judging them we need to understand the whole story.the more eps you watched the more it opened up what happened between the main lead !!

personally dont think this is a bad drama. The story doesnt follow MTC novel and it could of be written better
same goes to the editing and visual however it is worth watching !!!

cant get over this drama !!
it is quite a slow story but get interesting after they show us what happen 100 years later.story grows and get interesting until eps 36 then it get abit rushed.
i think this is mainly because the original eps was 50 but after go through censor etc it got cut down to 43eps
overall love both leads.
in the beginning it shows lacking of chemistry because viewer need to believe they fall deep in love really fast but then after watching more eps then we got to understand more of why the whole problem happened.
ending was pretty rushed but still love the performance from the leads, very touching ending.
RECOMENDED TO WATCH !!

My very 1st review Special just for this drama, lower your expectation.
Before that, pardon my English, I'm not native, but I'll try my best to write it in English.I watched so many dramas but this is my very 1st review and maybe the last because usually I'm not bother to write review wheter the drama is good or not.
Yes, maybe I write the review especially just for this drama because this drama is soooo controversial, low rating, full of criticism and so much hate.
If you ask me I like it or not, of course I will say I like this drama, even though this drama is not perfect, I don't know why this drama feels special for me. ( I'm not even LYF or CYQ fan ).
* I'll start with what I liked first:
- Strong Female Lead, not annoying childish, bubbly, cringe, Mary Sue Female Lead : This is so important for me, C drama usually have this issue.
- Loyal, strong, caring, non- toxic Male Lead : I love Su Mo in drama version than Donghua/Novel/Original version, Su Mo drama version is very different than the original version. Original Su Mo is so greyish character, sometimes cruel, manipulative and very cold. ( I'm not novel reader but I watched the donghua version).
- No complicated and annoying Love Triangle. ML and SML really trust each other and so mature.
- Good Xuanhuan story, as a fantasy story lover, I like this kind of story.
- Good Looking actor/ actress- Good pairing actor : LYF looks so good in wig and hanfu/costume, his looks better than his previous drama Legend of Chusen. CYQ looks good in white hanfu/costume.
Not to mention they in perfect height each other, I think they are a good pairing as a couple.
- Very very Good OST/BMG/Music : The music really boost the whole drama.
- An okay CGI : Think the CGI is not that bad as other people mention/complaining at least for me.
* Negative points/ What I disliked:
- Bad editing/pacing/story telling : The first 28 eps is okay for me, but after that feels so draggy and so many unnecessary conversion, the conversation has a very long pause each lines.
Ep 42-43 feels so rushed that you'll be confused because of that.
Some characters just appear and gone for nothing.
- The directing is not that good : ML and FML chemistry kinda ON- OFF sometimes they are good sometimes feels awkward and stiff. This is really about directing problem, I don't think this is 100% the actors fault.
I watched the BTS, LYF and CYQ's chemistry really good in BTS they looks comfortable each other.
* Conclusion/ Suggestion :
- If you are Not a Novel Reader : Just watch it as an entertainment drama and keep low your expectation, MAYBE you'll be okay.
- If you are A Novel Reader and very PICKY about adaptation : Don't watch it! because you'll hate it. You can try to watch the donghua instead, but the donghua still far behind the drama.

Really live this drama and all casts especially Li Yifeng and Chen Yukee.
The story can be more perfect. It should be on air with 50 EPs. Some cutting scenes in the last 2 EPs are unacceptable. Some scenes in the early EPs can be removed than the last. Don’t understand why they focused to remove the last EPs’ instead. Just want to feedback seriously to cutting team, this drama can be much more better!!!. Currently rewatched this drama 3 times as I love the lead actor/actress so much and less chance for them to be reunion 😭. All Ost songs are beautiful. An excuse to see Li Yi Feng in a wig
The story itself had lots of fun potential. The show really suffered from editing choices. I can understand random chunks of a story being skipped for various reasons, but some of these choices were beyond excusable and just disorienting. The last episode could have easily been 15 minutes long. Sumo is such a sweet and level-headed character who really does deserve so much more than the show left him with. There was no real need to have the 6 kings, the prince, the old man, the general, the random central plains girl, and three mermaid captains. Out of the kings we only really got to know Bai Ying and her friend, and she really didn't do much but have a small and unnecessary love storyline; none of the kings had any real power or ability. But the biggest waste of a character was Yan Xi. Such a sweet and shy character was supposed to be a captain? The army did nothing but randomly walk around all day or get killed. The story gave him no fighting power or real intelligence that showed why he had the job he did. He was probably injured more often than the Sumo. Not much to say about our female lead, she barely had a personality and by the halfway point, you can't help but wonder why Sumo loves her. I want my life back.Was this review helpful to you?
It's not that bad
Firstly I'm not a fan of either li yifeng or chen yukee. I decided to watch this because of the bad review it get from the moment it's airing. Some said the plot is difficult to understand. Male lead looks fat. Female lead doesn't have the X factor. Bla.. Bla... Bla...I watch it without skipping at all for most episode but there is some that quite boring actually. I have to skip that but it's totally normal. I skipped many episode from many c/k drama that boring for me. Even ashes of love also can't be spared.
Overall for me,mirror tales of twin cities is not so bad. Male lead li yifeng is not fat at all. He is really good looking. Why the heck they said he's fat?.. I cannot understand the over judgement of some netz. Body shaming has become quite normal and totally accepted nowadays.. 😑
For female lead, she also a great actress. I known her in ashes of love. She quite boyish there but totally beautiful as Bai ying.And she absolutely have the xyz factor as actress.
The story also is not so difficult to understand.It's quite predictable actually.It's love triangle between lead male, female lead and 2nd male lead. Kongsang and QianQian in rift because of Baiwei/Baiying. What is so difficult to understand in that??..
I will keep watching this because the story is good actually. Nothing is bad here. Give it a chance. Don't so easily critized. Don't do body shaming.Don't pass judgement before watch the whole story. You only watch 1/2 episode and suddenly said it's bad. There is 43 episode total.come on. It's really not fair.

Disappointing
I understand ML with emotionless demeanor throughout the drama because it is his character…. But the FL? Such a poker face all throughout without the need to. Maybe it is her real-life personality that is brought out. Because of this, I reckon she is a poor choice to take the role. It contributed a lot to my boredom that I had to skip a lot. If it not for the 2 ML i would have dropped it soon. I think if drama need not be this no of episodes. Too many side stories some maybe acceptable but others unnecessary to the main story.Was this review helpful to you?
The typicalness of fantasy drama
Firstly, the drama is quite good. Not all that bad. Plot quite good. Not too much of action but still good. My first time watching the lead actor, Li Yifeng. He's already in my favorite list. Anyway, the ending is so as expected as typically coming from historical-fantasy drama. I have seen so many historical/fantasy drama and the ending don't always turn out as you would've expected. Its good to have some expectations now and then when it comes to ending and sometimes give a bit the benefit of the doubt but not too much cuz it will be disappointing. I would be pissed over the ending but then it is so typical so I won't react. Its fate of the characters. Well the bad guys dead and happy ending for the good guys. I look forward for the sequel and what the next story of Kongsang will be like.Was this review helpful to you?

Fantasy drama are on a decline
When I got into cdramas in 2018, I got a huge stock of dramas to watch and fantasy was my favorite type of dramas to watch. I think after 4 years, We are seeing quite a few similar style dramas now. This drama gives me the vibe of a 2014-15 fantasy drama vibe. The overly sad and hopeless feeling is not something we were seeing in 2017-2020 dramas.This dramas biggest positive was ; after watching a few episodes I wanted to see the ending and whatever it will be okay for the main leads. It was somewhat enjoyable though not the best. Atleast I discovered Li YiFeng. I am quite enjoying him.
Cons : Choppy editing, too much focus on villainish characters. Honestly I hated that Yu Huan. So irritating. The female lead is known to many if you watched ashes of love. She really wasn't the best choice for the female lead. Li YiFeng and her chemistry took a long time to take off.
Also that sad ending was so unnecessary.
Anyway there wasn't a good fantasy drama after ancient love poetry. So I still enjoyed it. This drama probably won't have any positive feedback overtime. And it's the producers and writers fault.
Please stop making sad ending dramas. One and only was sad too but that one felt more real. This one was sad just for the sake of being sad

Heart melting love drama
It's been a very longtime i didn't feel entering into a drama. I enjoyed the story as a whole and always waited for the next episode.The first few episodes are all about the background of the story. I still can follow the plot. This drama will not be as explosive at the beginning. But it should be more and more interesting in the later stage.
Li yi feng's acting skill are still worthy of praise. From lively,funny and innocent when he was young to becoming full of pain,stress and hopeless. Showing the tragic vicissitudes of live. And metamorphosis is very good. As sea emperor, he is full of the style of a king. Manly, calm, mature, smart,cold,domineering.
Chen yu qi's acting is still in place. Her expression and movement are expressive. Expressing sadness and crying scene are natural. Make me very immersive and this look is really beautiful. Beautiful and painful at the same time. She is cold, loneliness, hopeless, broken heart. She's dying. How can she be cute. The FL is strong as the male lead. The thing i love that FL is not played as just a romantic interest. But she has her own mission and purpose which is not overshadowed by the romantic storyline.
ML and FL are not only different races but also of different identities. Both of them bear the fate of their own country. The weight of the responsibility that both the leads shoulder can be deeply felt. Two people always bear the hatred of their respective countries. And they cannot stay in love with each other. How should they choose in the face of national justice and love? I have tasted the beauty of love but it is more painfull.
Chemistry between ML and FL in their characters is really working for me. I like the energy between them. They repel and attract toward each other constantly like magnets. The way how she is always intuned to his is well done. The emotions even by gazing each other is so deep. Perfect pair.
The OST lineup is super gorgeous. Zhou shen, mao buyi and zhang bichen. The combination of these three are amazing. And instrumental music in this drama is beautiful.
The CGI are still good. More exiting than i expected. Each episode can bring different surprises. The setting it feels very beautiful and it is more in live with the setting of the fantasy world.
I really like this drama. Fall in love with main couple. Attractive storyline. Ups and down of the su mo and bai ying's love. Development to feel the joy and sorrow of the characters. Extremelly beautiful and the emotions evoked are intense. Love it.
It is great drama with captivating romance between ML and FL. But the ending might not satisfy everyone. I would recommend it.

Acting and storyline
I like the story and acting skill they portrayed..the story seems interesting and makes me addicted to wait For the upcoming episode everyday, hoping for more wuxia and fantasy drama for this artist.This drama is a bit thrilling and waiting for more actions, I like the main character because they portrayed a good acting skills to resolve the problem from the past in the storyline as they suffered at the present times. The only thing I don't like is the feather magic because he's being used but still continue to support the bad leader I hope that he will wake up for the truth and do his job better..

Lack of pathos, lack of engagement, poor editing
I didn't set my expectations too high before watching this, but I can't help feeling somewhat disappointed.The story has its attractiveness but loses much in execution and delivery. I would have appreciated more details about the tribes, a smarter distribution of the plot points; instead, everything comes out as badly assembled, iterative, and just slightly catchy, bordering with boring and annoying.
The delivery of the story mostly fails to convey its depth, so we continuously assist to repetitive and sometimes incoherent dialogues, repetitive scenes, cheap dangers with no concrete consequence if not what is needed to keep the plot going. The editing is probably the worst part - the way scenes were cut, assembled, and linked together ruins most of the best scenes, and the excess of zoom makes me still wonder whether I am exaggerating or if it is truly this bad.
The actors didn't do a bad job, but many moments seem so fake that they prevented me from really feeling it; there is too much self-pity, little depth in communication, rushed explanations and the characters are strongly unable to plan, observe and act based on the circumstances. They circle around the same sequence of events, and when I felt like it was time for them to finally develop out of their repetitiveness, they kept falling into the same hole. Yu Huan was always in prison; Zhen Lan had no significant development after he awakened; Bai Ying sacrificed and lucked out, sacrificed and lucked out; Su Mo is ambiguous enough to attract a bit of interest but remains a victim of the events surrounding him, indecisive when it matters and determinate always about the same things, to the point that he becomes a bit useless.
Dubious leadership, confusing character development or total lack of it, boring, quick missions, unengaging fights. Some scenes and the OSTs save the score, otherwise, it would have been lower.
