Obsessive, Possessive, Controlling Love - crikey!

A man set on revenging the death of his father. Sadistically keeps the daughter of the man who betrayed his father, as his mistress. Girl is innocent, gullible and ignorant to matters of almost everything. Really un-comfortable drama for me to watch and worse, has an ending left much to despair and one's own imagination.

The only reason I watched is Hawick Lau. His acting is always on point and makes his character so believable as Shao Qian. Unfortunately, he has to be that man who loves the girl to the point of obsessiveness and can only express love through act of anger, control and jealousy. The female lead Ying Er (acted as Tong Xue) was only 22 years old at that time of this drama and lacked experience in portraying such a complicated character. A girl who is confused between being in love or being victimized.

If you enjoy watching possessive, obsessive love where a man paws at the woman he loves at every chance when he is riddled by anger and jealousy, this is one drama you should not miss, especially when it is acted out so well by the handsome Hawick Lau. If not, you can also give this drama a miss.

The portrait of obsessions and passions taken to the extreme

I know that the story of this drama is extremely problematic, but there are points that attract me so much, that's why I love it so much.
My opinion on certain points:
The protagonist is the most complete portrait of a Yandere (my guilty taste for this type of character) but he went in ways that I didn't like, the protagonist's best friend had the best relationship in this drama, it was a friend that I wanted for myself, I could feel the feeling of love that they had between them, Zhen Fei was an angel in this story, did not judge the protagonist and was understanding in everything, a pity that they would never work. Regarding Tong Xue's first love, Xiao Shan, he thought he was an extremely weak person, he would not be able to deal with all the emotional load and psychological problems that the protagonist has, being abused for years, I would definitely take her for treatments. This protagonist's self-sacrifice complex was depressing, her uncle was the worst person in the world with her, how can you sell her own family? he practically prostituted her, I would definitely not forgive him

What a captivating story! But the female lead's face ruins my watching enjoyment. Where do I begin? I understand the female's character vision of the story but still the creators could have chosen a better looking actress. She has nice abundant hair though. She has such an annoying face and no range of facial expression. She always displayed a facial expression that she detest or smelled some kind of bad odor. I watched this because I was bored. I don't normally watch modern Chinese series only the period dramas but I guess I ran out of something to watch.

If you're an extreme feminist perhaps you won't be able to handle to watch this series. It's the BDSM of television drama that touches your psyche. If you want to torture yourself at the same time having the pleasure of watching on how this series unfolds - this is how you will feel about this story. Kudos to the writers for creating such an excellent stupidly moronic female character. Yes she is an ABSOLUTE moron in this story. Indeed there are some people in this world who would allow themselves to be dominated and manipulated by others. I extremely abhor this character because as a human being you're responsible of what happens to you.

If it were not for the story I won't be able to finish this series. Damn! None of the cast in this drama are good looking except for Harwich Lau. Even him is not really outstandingly handsome. His supposedly wife looked so matronly that she could have played his mother. Come on! What's wrong with the creators? Perhaps this is an extremely low budget project. Even the other love interest of the female lead looked like below average. What's the point of watching a movie or TV if they're not pleasing to the eyes. Instead they're an eye sore. Indeed good job to the creators for creating this fantastic series despite the lackluster appearance of the cast. Except of course of the male lead and his acting skill is superb. Bravo! Most of the time you would loathe him at the same time he can successfully make you feel pity for him.

a total joke

Im half through this and really wonder why i'm still watching it... Totally cliche, mediocre acting from the FL - who is also not suitable for the role, being mature-looking and stout while playing an innocent fearful college girl? The plot follows the old trope of the girl paying family debt with her body (!), which is totally crazy for us european viewers... Too many coincidences to be taken seriously - out of the entire China, the FL only bumps into the revengeful ML, his brother-in-law and then his mom?? Seriously?
Another serious short-coming is that the director of the drama seems unable to decide if this is a comedy or a tragedy, most dramatic scenes mingle with some unreasonably funny scenes, like wtf? If u wanna do it, at least do it right!
WHY is there no ORPHAN tag? Too many dramas from all asian countries have these orphan protagonists! And im still to figure WHY? Are parents such a hindrance?
The ML is a total psycho... he raped and abused the FL for 3 yrs, and now we have to believe he secretly loves her and protects her. It's just the housekeeper that loves and cares most for ML, shouldnt they be a better match?
Totally unnatural, fast paced, like adapted from a manga, or Harlequin series or whatever... Watch it with popcorn.
