Underwhelming

Perhaps it is because I watched The King2Hearts right before this, but the first episode failed to hook my attention. The writing and characters seemed fake and melodramatic; and even in the short while, all interactions seemed predictable.

A Small Taste of the Characters

For the beginning of a series, there was a lot going on. We got a glimpse into the life of Yoon Se-Ri, along with some of her relationships with others. Initially, I did not like Se-Ri. She came off as cold-hearted. But as the show went on, I could understand why and sympathized a lot with her. There is something about her that I couldn't help but like.I am excited to get to know more about Ri Jeong-Hyeok's colleagues.

Huh?

Thanks to this episode I managed to learn a few words in Korean. Like Kamsamnida or Oma which is a big plus. But considering the fact that HER MANAGER SENT HER PARAGLIDING NEAR NORTH KOREAN BORDER doesn't really make sense to me. Although the main character does have a sort of promising future with her character development now situated in North Korea her key characteristics are pretty straightforward. Coming from a typical rich family with an issue revolving around who gets the money is too simplistic in my opinion and it's a big shame considering the immensely interesting theme choice of a South Korean citizen accidentally coming to its Northern neighbors. What really frustrated me and left a pretty sour impression on me in the end was the final scene where the main female character was held against a wall by another North Korean male protagonist. I don't know if I was simply expecting too much but it really bothered me that the series chose these repetitive aspects even more so when as I mentioned the theme truly does sound engaging.

Gorgeous cinematography

Incredibly beautiful cinematography. I loved the beautiful countryside and the wildlife. First an eagle, then an owl, and then a fawn.

7.0/10 - A great start that won't confuse viewers and a fabulous introduction.

Woot! Woot! Writer Park Ji Eun is back! I’ve been so curious as to what she would come up with after Legend of the Blue Sea. She comes up with an heiress who gets blown away by a tornado into North Korea. Where a North Korean soldier stumbles upon her. Honestly I was really excited when it was more “The Mountain Between Us” plot when the synopsis dropped early 2019, but I think this will be fun.

The writing already proves to be just as charming and lovable as Park Ji Eun’s other works. I mean we already have Se Ri using her dating scandal to sell her products and the tension with her estranged family as her father asks her to take over the company. Jung Hyuk the perfect soldier, AKA man. Which still remains a mystery. I’m sure he’ll remain aloof for a while yet. Not to mention probably the most hilarious and human goofballs for Jung Hyuk’s North Korean patrol unit. Leave it to Park Ji Eun to make lovable and hilarious North Korean guys, while balancing it with some clearly despicable deeds and a villain already. All balanced by Park Ji Eun’s signature humor after all flying tractors and pigs in the tornado scene are so her! There are some sub plots that right now are being mildly developed. Like Se Ri's brother is robbed and the guy is apparently going to hide in North Korea. So that's interesting.

So the director. I have so many of his dramas on my list and from the ones I’ve glimpsed at he has a great eye. The aerial shots are amazing. Even Se Ri’s whole chase scene running through stunning fields to forest are lovely. Fans of Park Ji Eun’s dramas have come to anticipate, expect, and love the beautiful cinematography that the directors bring. Clearly director Lee Jung Hyo is up for the task.

Se Ri is definitely going to be a force to be reckoned with. I love that she’s a self made woman. After she left the family, and it sounds like they were only to happy to cut her off, she makes her own company. Her own father respects her enough for it and is willing to let her take over his company. Sadly the rest of her family are backstabbers and the scene with her mother was so sad. Despite evil mom’s being too often used. Clearly there are people who are not gonna want her found. Though I love her little henchman being so worried to find her. She’s clearly a smart woman, and I love how athletic she is. From being able to out run soldiers to the paragliding that got her into this mess! Ha-ha. So I found it a bit odd when it took her for ever to realize that she was in North Korea. Despite obvious signs. I thought the woman they presented would duck and cover faster. Yes she’s had a rough day, head injuries, blah-blah.

Which leads me to wonder what path she took at the fork in the road? Did she follow Jung Hyuk’s directions? Or did she not trust him? Or is she just that bad with direction? She should have been able to tell which direction she went. The whole chase was hilarious. As the soldier calls her stupid for running that way as he chases her and then shoots at her as he tries to not make her jump the fence!!

This was a SOLID first episode. Laying down the plot and the players. Sure Jung Hyuk is just another perfect guy that Park Ji Eun has created, but the rest should come later. No really he’s like a super soldier. It’s coherent and introduces everyone well. I love a clean first episode. Not to mention I love the seriousness mixed with the playful humor I’ve come to love from this writer. Not to mention another unique plot to sweep me away. No aliens or mermaids, but I’m very excited to see the “real world” drama from this writer. I like the cast a lot and so far I’m very impressed! Things are looking good!

Oh, don’t forget the extended scenes at the end of the episodes. It was fun seeing Jung Hyuk observe Se Ri. But that is totally Park Ji Eun’s way. ^_-

O primeiro episodio

Faz tempo que não assisto nenhum drama, então foi uma sensação muito gostosinha, o melhor de tudo foi que enquanto assisto não paro de lembrar que eles casaram na vida real e fico toda bobinha ?
