A group of brave youth who are not afraid of bullets, guns, and hardships. The students stay firm in their beliefs to save their country. From the years 1937 to 1946, Tsinghua University, Peking University, and Nankai University temporarily merged during a historic moment in Kunming to form the National Southwestern Associated University (Lianda). As the Second Sino-Japanese War broke out in 1937, young scholars and intellectuals rose up to fight a battle through literacy. (Source: ChineseDrama.info) Edit Translation

I tend to understand the culture and stand point of this country just watching 13 eps...

This is my 2nd republican cdrama series since I am not that fond of this genre.
Acting wise they all are superb in owning each of their characters and roles.
Story wise - very enlightening, you would understand why this country has been gate keeping their gov't and people. The damage they got from the war is very devastating and horrible for esp the innocents. I would not wonder why they become who they are today (but please do not think I condone their unacceptable actions and decisions)

This is how good this story is for making me see the other side of China and their govt.

Update: completed
Never regretted watching it til the end. This story is full of angst, sadness, frustrations and heartaches but yet, love each scenes of it.
This reminded me not to watch another republican war themed cdrama (2nd from Arsenal Military) unless I feel like torturing myself.

Go wath this with no expectation and with open mind and you will love it.

Love it so far!

I’m not a big republican drama fan, but this one is different. It’s about a group of brave and fearless young students gathered from 3 different universities, they were not afraid of bullets and hardships. they stayed firm in their beliefs to save their country. I love Dylan Wang’s role as Cheng Jia Shu, he slowly developed from a carefree rich kid into a responsible young man who was willing to undergo anything to save his country and people. After after 3 years it finally air, I’m hoping it’ll attract more audiences, because I heard the filming was extremely challenging, owing to the amount of explosive scenes and filming locations, I can’t even imagine what the actors and crew members had to go through, my opinion, it’s well worth watching.
