Round 2

Edit: April 19, 2023

Rewatching Dr. Romantic Kim 2 again just after hearing the release of season 3 makes me so happy.

Anyhow, this show is still my favourite medical drama of all time!!!

May 4, 2020

I LOVE DOCTOR ROMANTIC KIM 2, I love the slow burn development of Eun Jae and Woo Jin. It literally took them 16 episodes to be official again. As much, I love them I also love Nurse Park and Dr Yun. These two are such a good second lead couple. Dr. Yun has such a sweet sunshine character and Nurse Park, I want to know more about his past since I didn’t watch season 1. So this makes me want to watch season 1 now. As for Master Kim, I hope that he finds his love and Dr. Bae too. Moreover, I really love this series. I wish Dr. Shim had more screen time since her character development is great.

FURTHERMORE, I FEEL LIKE THERE WILL A SEASON 3 SINCE THERES THE ODD BALL PROJECT THAT MASTER KIM IS PLANNING. I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT IT HELLO!!! PLEASE GIVE US A SEASON 3. I AM MORE THAN WILLING TO WATCH IT. GIVR IT TO US PLEASE!!!

Also, CAN PEOPLE STOP COMPARING SEASON 1 TO SEASON 2. THEY BOTH ARE GREAT AND THAT THEY SHOULD NOT COMPARED SINCE THEY HAVE THEIR OW STORYLINE WITH GREAT CHARACTERS!

Lastly, I LOVE THIS SERIES, one of my favourite kdrama for this year!!

DR. ROMANTIC 2, EQUALLY AS GOOD AS SEASON 1, DR. ROMANTIC! DO NOT MISS THIS!

I watched Dr. Romantic 2 almost immediately after the first season and found it as entertaining and as captivating. Teacher Kim (Han Seok Kyu) continues with his mentoring of a new set of doctors whom he hires from a top medical hospital in Seoul. His first set of mentees Dr. Yoon went to continue her studies in USA, Dr. Kang volunteered to work on an Island hospital and Dr. Do returned to Geosan Hospital in Seoul.

As the countryside Doldam Hospital is not exactly on the top of first year medical doctors list to apply, Teacher Kim managed to scout three doctors, one eager to learn from him and two who have personal issues to deal with. Not only does Teacher Kim have to deal with these doctors, but he also continue to face the Dr. Do Yoon Wan (Geosan Hospital Director) who is determined to destroy him and his career. Every episode is so fast paced and good to watch. The new couple of Dr. Seo (Ahn Hyo Seop) and Dr. Cha (Lee Sung Kyung) subtle love story is also well placed in this season. Dr. Do Im Bum's (Yang Se Jong) guest appearances on Episodes 10, 14 and 15 added a lot of fondness, respect and nostalgia between his relationship with Teacher Kim which is settling to watch. It truly connected the first and second season beautifully.

I must say that the Dr. Romantic series has gone way beyond my expectation of a medical drama. Not only was it a good watch for me in Season 1, but to also enjoy Season 2 is truly a first for me.

Better than the first season..

When I managed to finish season 1, despite all faults, I got attached with Doldam Hospital and it's medical staff.

Then I was curious with the young female doctor who faints or fall asleep everytime she had to go to the O.R. I thought it was absurd really, a surgeon who had panic attacks at the surgery room..

I still think, Doctor John is way better than this one. But I think this is better than the first season. It's just that its too tiresome to have the same antagonist all throughout these two seasons.

I think this is more emotionally charged than the first season. Would I rewatch it? Maybe not. But I don't regret watching it either.

A breath of fresh air

wow, I can't believe that 16 one-hour episodes are gone like this. Why could we not have 20 more? I currently feel empty (maybe it's because of the number of times I've cried).
I have to say I was very reluctant going into this show. I've never been one to enjoy medical drama and frankly am usually disgusted when operation scenes show up on my screen. I think this show cured me. It is also bizarre that I went into the second season before the first one but I wanted to watch this one because of the main lead. And then I stayed for basically the whole cast. I don't think there was someone misplaced in this show. Every crew member worked to give us this beautiful show.
I understand that this might not be better than the first season (from what I've seen in the comments) but I've laughed, cried, smiled, was sad and got also angry. I think for me this is what makes a good show. If you can evoke those emotions from your listeners, then you've done your job.
Story: There's quite a lot of show that uses the "ML from big city moves to small city", so I don't think it was anything new but I'm also not someone stops watching a show if a plot point has been used before. If the writers and directors are able to use this storyline well, then I'm happy to watch. We get to see a lot of real people dealing with real struggles. I also really like seeing the character's arc throughout the show. Some of them were redeemable and some I just wanted to through in the trash (I'm looking at you Dr. Yang Ho Joon). I usually like to have a strong female representation, but I think showing how the FL got from being week and unable to do her job and getting to where she was at the end was much more realistic in this situation.
Cast: I don't have anything to say on this part. I think everyone did an amazing job. I seriously felt like I was a fly on the wall and was experiencing their lives with them. I do hope that if there's a season 3, that I get to see them again.
Music: I don't know if it's just me but I usually don't pay too much attention to the music when I'm watching a show. Usually, if I'm noticing the music it could either mean that the song choice was so poorly chosen or that I really like the song. I think for this show there was one time that I noticed the song and I like it, so I would say that's a good job on their part.
Rewatch Value: ABSOLUTELY!
Overall: I'm not good at reviews. But if someone stumbles on this one and is looking for their next drama to watch, please pick it up. I'm actually going to pick the first season soon as I want to get the full context.

Same as Dr. Romantic

Two three things were different from first season . Firstly to make mother happy ,to make her satisfy Lee Sung Kyung's character suffers a lot . She even told her mother that she was doing too much ,she never asked her that what she like or what she doesn't like . What things make her happy . So I am happy with her decision that she started listening her inner voice.
My favourite character is So Ju Yeon's character . Happy face . I enjoyed watching her acting and her pairing with Kim Min Jae .
About story same as Dr. Romantic same type of hurdles with new characters and their mini story .
Acting were good.
Not a boring one.

Finding your own answer as a doctor

This is a sequel of Dr. Romantic. One doesn't have to watch Dr. Romantic to follow and like this series, though it would certainly help. Teacher Kim and most of the supporting cast came back to reprise their roles. The newly added ones are our newly identified mentees of Teacher Kim in this season, Dr. Seo (portrayed by Ahn Hyo Seop) and Dr. Cha (portrayed by Lee Sung Kyung) as well as a hospital director Dr. Park.

Perhaps because of my bias towards both main actor and actress, I am more invested in this season's story than Dr. Romantic 1. Dr. Seo is a talented general surgeon who is strapped for money. Dr. Cha is a hardworking cardiothoracic surgery whose only, but vital, struggle is getting pass her panic disorder at the operating theatre. Both of them are transferred from the HQ to Doldam Hospital due to respective circumstances (as well as the influence of Teacher Kim), and thus began the journey of these 2 doctors on understanding what "Romantic" at Doldam means.

What I like better than its first counterpart is the chemistry and romance development of the main couple doctors, Dr. Seo and Dr. Cha. Both of them have been rivals since school days - Dr. Seo has always liked Dr. Cha all this while, but respectful and patient with the boundary set by Dr. Cha. He takes care of her in his own subtle way, while she stands up for him when no one will. I like this kind of comradery couple.

Another character introduced in the story is Dr. Park, who became the director of Doldam Hospital. He had a slightly obsessed, one-sided rivalry with Teacher Kim that I could not completely relate to, but his character arc and development is still enjoyable to watch. It depicts the story of someone who is held prison by his own mind, and the moment of seeing him freeing himself from it makes me cheer for Dr. Park.

The one key thing that will always be the highlight and strength of this show is the patient's stories. As the complex backstory of Teacher Kim was mostly fleshed out in Dr. Romantic 1, I feel that this sequel is able to focus more on the patient's case and narrative arc.

With these, I really enjoyed Dr. Romantic 2 and hope that if they do another sequel, Dr. Seo and Dr. Cha would both be back, pretty please?

Took me two weeks after finishing this series to finally writing down my thoughts. As a fan of season 1, I had high hopes to this. In fact, Romantic Doctor 1 remains my top 1 medical kdrama to date. I wouldn't say this one was bad, but I think it's relatively plain compared to its precedent. Nonetheless, the story was well-delivered and I still like the characters, especially familiar ones who remained consistent from season 1 to 2. It's just that, I think I was looking for more? I don't even know what that is. I liked the new characters though, specially Seo Woojin. Like the first season, this drama also made me feel happy because of the characters' bond and satisfaction, because of how things turned out.

I Watched for Ahn Hyo Seop, And I find myself enjoy the drama, despite my allergic to Medical Drama. Yo In Shik is doing a good work here everything in the operation table feels real that at times I can't stomach the scene. Ass usual this writers has a skill and tendency with dramatic setup. That I sometimes giggles because at times it's abit OTT.. But she success to bring out the best in Lee Sung Kyung and AHn Hyo Seop Performances. their background and arc here is really engaging, I wish this drama emphasis more about their story and arc. and less about politic. Back then, I was skeptical about Yo In Shik casting choice. WHo knows Both of these combo hit the jackpot, that I find both of them have so much potential, both of these actor already look passionate in acting here. Give so much nuance and passion to character, that I enjoying this drama thanks to them.

Contrary to so many people who want season 3. If you need season 3, then it's more like fan service to satisfy the fans. I don't think this drama need for that. The entire story basically Kim Sabu is like God. It's like the show credit all the good think in him, and everyone around him is flaws and all. Like basically that's the entire story of this drama is all about his greatness and how it affect people around him and look out of him heck even the villain. And This hospital is the ideal dream about what is the hospital should be, to a pure form .The drama for me is already complete and there is no need to explore more.

A MUST WATCH KDRAMA

this is one of the most amazing dramas i have ever seen i mean i watched more than 100+ kdramas but this will come easily in my top 5. The cast, the ost, the chemistry, the friendship, everything is just amazing in this drama. Kim Sabu is simply the best doctor, mentor and a father like figure to his hospital crew. It even speaks on the important things that happen in a hospital and the struggles of the doctor who h people can't see well. Those who haven't seen this drama they are missing out on this masterpiece.

I liked it better than season 1, but I still had issues with this season

If you are wondering if you should give this show a try, I'd say go for it. Granted, I didn't care for it as much as other people did, but I realize I'm definitely in the minority.

Liked:
1) Dr. Kim was SO MUCH more likeable this season. I didn't care for him at all in season 1.
2) Overall, the acting was better this season. A lot of overacting in season 1. I still didn't care for the acting/character of Im Won Hee as Jang Gi Tae. In everything I've seen him in, he's always too over-the-top.
3) Liked the storyline of Woo Jin and Eun Jae. I liked how they did the flashbacks to them in college. I know this is a medical show and not a romance, but I would have liked to see more of them. It's hard to imagine that much beauty in one place.
4) They spent a little more time with some of the patients in this season, which I appreciated. The more you see a bit of a backstory, the more you can relate. to them and care about them. Case in point, the pregnant woman in the bus accident.
I was glad that they cut down a little bit on the number of times they performed CPR on the patients.
5) Thank you for more screen time for Kim Min Jae. His relationship with Ah Reum was cute, but unnecessary, and pretty unfulfilling.
6) The thugs that owed Eun Jae a favor. They showed a little bit of heart to counteract the over-abundance of bad guys.
7) The writers really developed the Doldam staff's characters, which made me like them and root for them. In this season, I was able to see why they wanted to work there and with each other. I didn't feel the bonding in season 1.
8) Kim Joo Heon as Min Guk - I loved to hate him. Granted, the man seriously needed some therapy, but the actor did a great job of portraying the character's long-standing insecurities and strong at-any-cost ambition (SPOILER - I LOVED that they turned this character around)

Not so much:
1) Oh my gosh, EVERYONE was eavesdropping on everyone else! Someone suggested making a drinking game of it (brilliant idea), but you'd be taking a drink about every five minutes. And what is the point of offices with doors in you can actually hear everything through them? It just made everyone look unprofessional. Add to that the number of people that read stuff on or in other people's desks. Just wow.
2) How many bad guys does one show need!?! The main bad guy returned from season 1, evidently with no repercussions for what he'd done in the past and really, I was never really clear on what his purpose was. He acted like a petulant child that wanted to play with a toy that someone else was playing with. Thankfully, he won't be back in season 3. The lackey that worked for Min Guk, he was just so slimy I had to fast forward through his scenes.
3) Eun Jae's problems with being in surgery - passing out/vomiting. I had multiple problems with this. First, this seemed like a deep-seated thing stemming from the fact that she didn't actually want to go into medicine (I mean, her conversation with her mother, yikes!). Popping anti-anxiety medications like candy right before surgery? No one with any sense of responsibility would do that. She needed to get into some therapy. Then her getting some medication from Dr. Kim and not even caring about what she was taking? She never questioned him about what the pills were. Then, she went around telling everyone she was fine because of the pills that Dr. Kim had given her. This is something that would have gotten them BOTH in trouble. And to have it turn out that she was just taking digestive enzymes? The whole thing was too implausible.
4) Again, bringing people from the main hospital and they only want to do the work they want to do.
5) Do In Bum - he comes back after three years, he still has a locker, and he goes into surgery right away?! He was there to investigate something, not do surgery. I was glad that the antagonism between him and Woo Jin didn't last long, we had enough other people constantly antagonizing others.
6) Doctor Kim still doing surgery. That's a lawsuit waiting to happen.
7) What was with the Harry Potter Music!?!?!
