Not Like the Webtoon but somewhat better

I know a common complaint is that in this drama they’ve added things that weren’t originally in the webtoon but honestly these things gave some of the characters more depth that they previously lacked in the webtoon, especially Suho’s character (which I actually wasn’t a fan of in the webtoon but absolutely love in the drama). In the webtoon the female lead is always hiding bare face, even after she graduates high school she's still paranoid and hiding her bare face from people, so its a nice change of character in the drama that they make her gradually more confident both with and without makeup to the point where she's even stranding up to her oppressors.
The webtoon wasn't complete when they filmed this and the author did come up with different character endings from the webtoon. But the story of an insecure girl that goes through some sort of beauty transformation has been told many times before and it’s nothing new as is the typical love triangle but if you enjoy those traits then True Beauty will be very fun and entertaining to watch.

WARM AND LOVELY DRAMA TO WATCH

I like this drama so much but mc feels grumpy always and talk less. 2nd lead should have been the mc of this show😫 and the last 2 eps are bit dragged. those contents could have been covered in a single episode. overall great series with indepth story and i connected with the fl so well coz I've been bullied for being fat and now i transformed and changed my life but still have those painful memories 😟 damn this drama had some good songs and ost that melted my heart. i loverd fl's sister so much

not the best HS drama but i can definitely say, the best HS COMEDY drama- so far

**slight spoiler for the webtoon and drama**

I've read the webtoon even before the drama is released (but i dropped it once "that" couple break up) and I felt a lot more emotions reading the webtoon than watching the drama. I was only watching it for the comedy and my overall review is only because of the comedic value.

I've seen a lot of better dramas, so most of the scenes between ML and FL are hard for me to watch (to the point I can even predict what the ML will say next) My fingers are wringling and I have to cover my eyes and even skip scenes between them like come on director and writer, it wasn't that cringe in the webtoon. Well probably because it wasn't moving xD
Also, I saw a lot of people really hated soojin in the drama but I can't quite relate to that maybe because Soojin character in the webtoon is much worst and pathetic than that, because in the end the drama version, at least soojin apologized.

THE BEST CASTS LINE UP EVER. Their chemistry with each other is great too. But then the whole storyline of the drama, it isn't the worst but it's not that good either; typical HS drama? yes. And typical love line between ML, FL, 2nd ML and 2nd FL? definitely yes. It isn't worth your time so I would definitely recommend it to put it at the bottom line of your watch-list, set your priority. Or you can also put it at top of your list because you probably will skip scenes a lot if you can't stand being cringe.

OST - *chef's kiss*

Rewatch value, my rating tells it all.

Very cheeeeesy

True Beauty started off feeling very cheesy and full of clichés. My biggest question is, what about this girl is ugly exactly? She wears glasses and has a few pimples - literally me and so many other girls in the world! The whole premise of this drama seemed dumb and not intriguing - nevertheless I persisted. To be honest I was pleasantly surprised as it was just easy to watch and the second male lead - WOW. I was living for him throughout this drama. He made it worth watching.

I liked the bromance that formed/reformed between the guys. So many funny scenes that actually made me LOL. The backstory of the two boys gave the show some depth and added some seriousness to it.

To begin with, like in the first episode, I did not Like Ju Gyeong's character. She just seemed very shallow, but to be fair she was constantly bullied. Like I said, I just didn't like the premise.

My favourite scene would have to be the one where all three of them are in the elevator and the boys are fighting over Ju Gyeong and then they get stuck. She shakes them off telling them to let go of her - we are thinking she's just annoyed with their bickering, but it turns out that she really needs to pee. As soon as they prise open those elevator doors she is out of there. The way she lunged out of that small gap made me really LOL.

The relationship that formed between Ju Gyeong's sister and her teacher was sweet and funny. It was ridiculous when they had their wedding and she got her head stuck in the table frame.

I would maybe consider watching this one again, simply because it was so light and easy to watch.

Honestly, revolutionary.

I genuinely think that this show is revolutionary. I am writing a review over three years since iv'e finished this show, but i don't regret watching it. One of my top five shows is Strong Woman Do Bong Soon and this show is lowkey giving the same big show vibe. I loved this it was goooood. The reason i gave it a 9/10 instead of 10/10 was because it thinks the of the way (at the time) i was such a hige fan of her ending up with Seojun. I think he would have never hurt her. I think that ju kyung and soo ho were seoulmates (hehe) but idk i think me and a lot of others wanted her with seojun. When i look back, the show was actully perfect, i will always feel bad for seojun, but reality is that the two book, rock, weirdos, were meant to be

One of the things I really love about this drama and it was one of the things that stuck with me after I finished it is how they don't try to demonize makeup.

This trope of the girl considered ugly who suddenly becomes beautiful overnight and now has to live with two identities is a very classic one, but in most of these stories, you'll always see the author clearly stating that makeup is the villain and girls shouldn't use it, that you should just "be yourself".

But here, the self-esteem and self-discovery of the female protagonist doesn't come from her abandoning makeup and living like that forever, because it's just lazy and too shallow. On the contrary, the female lead is genuinely interested in makeup and even ends the series working with it. It was nice to see.

About the love triangle... There's no triangle, lol. There are just two people in love with each other and a poor dude who falls in love alone on the side. To be honest, the only thing that stressed me out were the arguments involving those three.

I always see people saying that she should have chosen Seojun because apparently he "loved her more" (based on what? I don't know but anyway). But the thing that always goes through my mind is: even if he loved her more, why would she have the obligation to choose him for this? "He deserved to be happy" and Jukyung didn't? She never liked him, never saw him as more than a friend and never even gave him hope, but she should have stayed with him, even though she loved another guy, out of pity? This is horrible and honestly Seojun and Jukyung deserve better.

I mean, the scene of him crying on the stairs is very sad, but the guy made peace with his best friend, took the weight of Seyeon's death off his shoulders, and fulfilled his biggest dream of life, which was to become singer, but somehow he got the worst possible ending because he didn't get the girl at the end? It doesn't make sense to me.

Also, don't get me wrong, I love my guy Seojun, but him getting close to Jukyung with the sole purpose of hurting Suho and ending up developing a one-sided love always seemed more like karma from the universe than an injustice to me.

The main couple is cute and I like their development. I don't think they have screen-shaking chemistry, but I really like them together.

It's not a super original story and it relies on thousands of different clichés, but that's the premise and the drama doesn't hide that, so it ends up being well done. It's a good execution of what they set out to do.

Hilarious and weirdly relatable

Most people probably think this plot is very silly and unrealistic, but for some of us it is pretty real.

I have very bad skin and for years I wouldn’t even go to the grocery store without a full face of make-up. I look very different with make-up on and I have actually had people laugh at me, when they saw my bare face for the first time. So my point is, Ju Gyeong’s story might be more relatable to viewers than you think.

Up until episode 13, I might have given this a score of 9. I loved everything about it: I screamed laughing several times, I loved both Cha Eun Woo and Hwang In Yeop, I could relate to Ju Gyeong and I adored her sister’s side plot.

But then the drama fell victim to the „too many episodes“ curse. I do not know the webtoon, so I can only review the plot of the drama, which would’ve found the perfect ending at the end of episode 13. I seriously thought that was the end of the drama cause the ending scene was perfect. But then I realized that there are three more episodes. Which is why I paused the drama at that point and only forced myself to watch those last three episodes many weeks later. They ended up not being as bad as expected - but still, some unnecessary added drama.

However, I definitely still recommend watching this. It is absolutely hilarious. Seriously, I laughed so loudly, I’m pretty sure you could hear me down the whole street.

Comfort Kdrama

Okay to be fair, I am a bit biased towards this kdrama since I followed it before the episodes aired AND I read the Webtoon version as well. BUT! The show does bring out a beautiful story about self love and self image and how loving yourself before loving anyone else should always be your priority. I'd call this kdrama a feel good kdrama because really everything goes well for the main character in the end (Which aheemmm it might be a little unrealistic but she did go through a lot of shit so she deserves it!!) But also another thing i'm so mad about is how poorly they treated seojun in here. As an avid TB Webtoon reader, seojun and jukyung were each others first everything and that got practically erased in the show. I got really mad and was very disappointed when their first kiss never happened! Not even jukyung reciprocrating his feelings!? Thats just low...But I digress! Its a good show to watch when you're feeling low but do beware the second lead syndrome will hit HARD.

it's super cute and lovely. im team suho but I love seo Jun!!it's not bad, but it depends on your taste.

I am an avid True Beaty webtoon reader, and although I must admit that I am not a big fan of the webtoon, but I think this drama is pesonally... alright?

This drama is honestly, in my opinion, better than the webtoon. They made the characters more relatable and lovable, and it was quite different compared to the webtoon. The pairings were pretty interesting, and there were many funny and cute moments.

I think the casting and acting was great because they really portrayed the characters well! But the story... was really cliché and predictable. I found myself cringing a lot while watching. Not to mention the fact that there were so many stereotypical characters.

Overall, I didn't enjoy it very much, but it depends on your taste. If you love sappy and cliché dramas, go try this out! (my sister quite enjoyed it, so you might too, if you have the same taste as her)🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Great show to watch especially if you are a fan of the Webtoon

As some one who has enjoyed watching the Webtoon i enjoyed watching True Beauty. It's always great when Webtoon's get created into a real life show, for this show they did a good job keeping to the story line and the overall look and vibe of the Webtoon. The actors are spot on compared to the Webtoon too. They did change somethings in the show but it still goes along the lines of being confident with your true self/beauty featuring two high school boys and their unfortunate past as friends. However if you are not familiar with the Webtoon this show may seem like a pretty normal love triangle k-drama. Still, I would say it is enjoyable anyway for those who have not read the Webtoon. There is a lot of comedy that makes it entertaining to watch, anyone who writes a negative review is probably taking the show a bit too seriously. If you like simple easy to follow along high school romance drama's then this is the show for you.

Moon GaYoung (Jugyeong) is the perfect person to play Jugyeong. Compared to her past shows like "Tempted" this is different for her and it was fun watching her play Jugyeong. Cha Eun Woo is just being Cha Eun Woo, compared to his past shows like "My ID is Gangnam Beauty" (which is actually a very similar show to True Beauty) he plays a similar character who comes off as cold but comes to love and support the girl character. My expectations are never big when it comes to his acting since he is a pretty simple actor and plays a lot of the same kind of characters but this does not mean i do not enjoy seeing him in the drama's he appears in. I would like to see something a bit different from him in the future though as an actor, but as Lee Suho he was perfect for the role. Hwang In-Yeop (Han Seojun) is a new actor to me but he is pretty entertaining and scarily looks a lot like the drawing in the Webtoon. Park Yoona (Kang Soojin) is also a kind of new person to me but was very impressed with her and now love her as an actress. I can't wait to see her in more dramas, she is a great actress who has a good 'villain face' when she becomes the bully of the show. And lastly as a random mention is Jang Hyejin as the mother of Jugyeong. Jang Hyejin is a brillant actress, i did think is is very random that she is in this show since she has hit such big success being in "Parasite" that won many awards last year but she is pretty good at being the comedic over the top mother in True Beauty.

LOVE IT!!

thoughts: i actually really like this drama so far. when i heard the webtoon was going to be made into a drama, i started reading the webtoon. and im on chapter #125 (english ver.). i do realize that there's contrasting opinions with the whole "the drama is similar to the webtoon" etc. bu if you realize that the kdrama, yes it's based on the webtoon, but mainly an adaption, and the writer of the kdrama was hired to do their job and that is to write the kdrama. i think lots of people are upset that the kdrama does not follow the webtoon scene by scene but honestly if it did then there would be no point in eevenen making the kdrama because it's just a duplicate of the webtoon.

plot: the plot is, yes stereotypical, but it at the same time is quite enjoyable. people will complain about the whole "school love triangle" thing is used too many times in kdramas, cdrama, jdramas, etc. but the reason that that same plot is used so many times in dramas is that it either does well or is entertainment worthy. yes there's plenty of other dramas with other storylines like Private Lives, Flower of Evil, and The King: Eternal Monarch. so instead of complaining about the plot and how it's not following the webtoon play by play, just do not watch True Beauty and keep your mouth shut.

characters/setting etc: i actually like Jugyeong in the kdrama more than the webtoon, because i felt as though in the webtoon her character has no "substance" like her character is kinda narrow-minded and her personality isn't really there. but in the drama i feel as though her character is "better"? i really like moon gayoung acting too. i think she and the other actors have great chemistry. i also think that the issues and underlying problems in the drama are handled well and like any other kdrama are spread out and go into detail as the drama develops. i personally like that the casting director did an amazing job finding actors who look similar to the characters in the webtoon. also, the soundtrack is very nice with Yuju from Gfriend singing part 2 in the OST. i think its very catchy.

conclusion: my final thoughts are that i really like drama and for me, i love triangles and especially school dramas. i will continue watching this and like Start-Up there's a war between Suho and Seojun and i think that just makes True Beauty all that better because of the involvement of fans.

Why should/shouldn't watch TRUE BEAUTY...

To start with, this drama was originally created in a webtoon series which was written by YAONGYI. To be honest, even though the comic version is still incomplete but she really nailed it. The way she draws and portraits each and every character in that comic was just unbelievable. And yet TvN really spoiled it very badly. At first, I was super excited about the drama version of this comic but watching the ending made many viewers feel very disappointed including myself.

About the cast of the drama, everyone has done their roles very well and made many viewers fall for their charm and beauty. At the same time, the second lead characters of the drama didn't get to participate much in the drama. I don't wanna spoil what happened in the comic and also in the drama. As a true webtoon series fan, the only thing that I can mention here is that the comic version and the drama version both are completely different. They changed most of the plot in the drama where it had a really boring ending. The actors who played the second lead character, Hwang In-Yeop and Park Yoo Na had very least parts in the drama but they caught everyone's eye in this drama.

I'm not supposed to give any spoilers about the drama or the comic but still, I have to convince the readers with my review. According to the Webtoon version, Suho will be Jugyeong's first boyfriend, and one part he'll leave her as he has to take care of his dad who was seriously ill. Eventually, they both broke up. Then soon, Seojun will be her boyfriend and took care of her very well like literally how all the girls want their boyfriend to be. To be honest, Seojun was just the perfect version of a boyfriend that all the girls need. Later on, Suho will return from the States (if I'm not mistaken) and they will remain as friends. Somehow in the end Seojun and Jugyeong will break up too as Sejun was an idol who was supposed to be debuting soon. Some Seojun fans claimed that he was having a dating scandal with Jugyeong as they always took pictures in the same place and post it on their social media platform. Seojun's agency didn't want to have any problem with Seojun's debut so they talked very badly to Jugyeong and made her dump Seojun just like that. Actually, Seojun refused badly to Jugyeong about their sudden break, and yet he respected her decision on this problem. Days flew by, Suho entered a cooking class to make himself busy as possible while Seojun was busy with his debut as he was a successful rookie in his beginning. Jugyeong made herself busy by going on a few blind dates but it didn't work out as it was not to her expectation level. So that was the incomplete comic version story.

For the drama version, it is completely different. Suho and Jugyoeng were in a relationship but then Soojin like Suho because he was friends with her for 10 years and he's always concern about Soojin as she get bitten by her dad. On the other hand, Seojun likes Jugyeong because he finds her attractive and kind. Somehow Seojun controlled his emotions towards Jugyeong and supported his friend Suho. I don't wanna spoil anymore about the drama... HEHEHEHE!!!! You can watch it if u want to know the whole story. Sorry if you're not happy or excited while reading my review but thus is the truth trust. Especially if you're in TEAM SEOJUN. definitely ypu will feel stress and disappointed.
