Only a fan of the martial arts genre would enjoy this. I kind of liked it as it showed the early years of the Forsham province. The fighting choreography was at least entertaining from the beginning to end. Again, this is only for the lovers of martial arts and being able to explo a different technique. Again, the depiction of the Japanese, very interesting. Not a very dramatic ending though.

This movie is supposed to be a kind of add-on to Ip Man. While Ip Man is one my favorite Martial arts movies, this one is only average. Fighting scenes are rather random, since the story is put in the first place. In my opinion, this was a bad choice because most people who liked Ip Man, liked the genuine and unique fighting scenes in combination with a touching story. In The Legend is Born the fighting scenes aren´t really what one would expect when watching a martial arts movie.

All in all, I would say that The Legend is Born could state an OK-movie, but the fact that it has to live in the shadow of it´s predecessor makes it inconspicious.

Nevertheless, I would recommend it to everyone who can´t get enough of Ip Man as a historical person. In the movie one gets to know facts which make it easier to understand Ip Man´s life. And people who don´t like fighting scenes in the first place watching martial arts films should watch it, too.
