Beautifully Story

I enjoyed this movie, it was touching, with great chemistry, and laughter, and pain. It's real life at its best. I love how everyone finally found their place in life and a community that supports them. The only bad I have to say was the courtroom was annoying and felt wasteful overall. I love the leads and their amazing chemistry about finally coming out and being together. I am not a fan of the ending as it keeps you guessing and wish it did a better job of giving closer because it leaves you guessing still as to how they all will live. Wish they did the joint custody life as the ending.

I placed any potential spoilers at the end of this review.

This has such an impactful story. It shines a light on the many misconceptions about gay men that society has and how everyone deals differently with confronting it. At the same time, it breaks some stereotypes some may have on certain communities. The acting was outstanding and the cinematography was beautiful. The script was excellent and had a very realistic ending. I only have three criticisms. See the potential spoiler alert at the bottom if you want more info.

******Potential Spoiler Alert******
1st criticism: This is supposed to be a sequel to a series (His - I Didn't Think I Would Fall in Love), but it has no real link to it. It does use the same main characters’ names and gives silent nods to the series (choice of clothing colors for the main characters for example), but that’s it.
2nd criticism: The movie does not completely explain the main characters past relationship. You have to rely on the movie’s description for this (hence the 3rd criticism).
3rd criticism: The description of the move does not completely match what happens in the movie. It mentions various things but does not actually show it in the movie. However, this seems to be a common thing on Viki.

Wise portraying of serious issues

I loved this movie, and I'm glad I watched the mini drama before. If not, I probably wouldn't have gotten the complete experience of this story. It's better to know of their past and the way it all started.

The story is great, the japanese tend to give the white-glove treatment to certain matters as in this case. Personally, I always feel like in many dramas or movies they push people to serious consideration and introspection, I really appreciate their ability of portraying serious matters like social problems or complicated emotions. Slow-paced as I could easily expect (and I don't mind it at all), I found it deep and very emotional. Sora-chan is precious and this whole story is. They spotlighted the right points and gave a direct message when it was needed.

I loved the actors too and they were perfect for the role. Coming from the drama I tried not to compare their two versions (younger and older) and I think they fit perfectly. I also found it amazing how much they were able to express with a gaze.

Stories like these always leave me thinking, and it makes me sad to think how much effort is still needed to change something in our societies (and I can only imagine how japanese society is, but I guess it truly is hard). It was also good that they showed both sides, meaning they hinted at Rena's situation. Very sad. Everyone in society bears with different expectations from others and have different ways of dealing with them.

I really really love this movie and would totally rewatch it.

Very slow and dare I say boring

The actors were great and the tension and music and cinematography were all done well. My gripes from the plot and HEAVY SPOILERS TO COME. And I also slipped through the second half of the movie cause I just lost interest.

Nagisa coming unexpectedly like that and the wholeeeee thing that came after put a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe I missed something but the fact that what he did was absolutely outrageous and never properly called out is kidding me. Maybe I'm too aggressive but the fact that he suddenly arrived with his KID, stayed over, and not even a finished divorce would have is fighting outside. Like are you NUTS. He doesn't get dragged enough for that in the movie which gives me the ick

Like I said I got very bored around 37 mins when I realized we were that deep in the movie with no proper excuse for nagisa showing up. I knew the movie would be unserious from that point. I did thinking the ending scenes were quite cute.

DISCLAIMER: I DID NOT WATCH THE FIRST ONE LOL

I had not realized this was a sequel until I was done watching. This may have affected my experience, but I don't think so. This movie still works as a stand-alone movie.
I loved everything about this movie. I love the story, the acting, the actors' chemistry, and the message it sends. I think the director/producer or whoever, made every second of this movie important to the arc of the plot. The only issue I had overall was that I did not like the ending. Although I understand why custody was given to the mother and the reasoning behind that decision, a small part of me wished Nagisa had custody especially since Sora seemed so happy with him. Also, I loved the way Nagisa and Shun's relationship progressed (even though I don't know the context of their fight or their dynamic) I was bursting with pride when Shun became comfortable with himself when he came out. Overall good message, a good story, and a great movie! I will watch the first one and then rewatch this.

Why feel good when you can feel mad

This story brings a very interesting angle towards both custody battles, homophobia (both internalized and from society) and parenthood as whole. It starts out pretty slow and to be honest a tad boring. But with time it gets more and more sweet and interesting.

The child in the movie does a great jobb and is defiantly the star of the show. She is smart, kind, funny and versatile.

The biological mother shows great character growth and does an amazing jobb portraying the side of the typical dad, twisting genderrolles around and shedding light on societies dubbels standards in the most realistic way.

The biological father shows great character growth but also made me kind of mad, he needs to learn how to respect other peoples boundaries as well as find better ways of communication. However the love of his life was the sweetest guy ever, shy but kind and I could not help but fall for him. and then there was this old guy who almost stole the show as much as the kid.

All in all this is definitely worth a watch, it will make you cringe, angry and happy so I guess its a good feel mad movie.

lento mas necessário

decidir rever este daqui após assistir a distance place é meio funny saber que apesar de um ser baseado no outro, os dois seguem caminhos distintos em que:
his; tristeza -----> felicidade
a distance place; felicidade ---> tristeza

it tackles the story of a divorced man with a kid returning to his ex-boyfriend who isolates himself in a small village. The divorced man will come to this village with his daughter, and this will be the start of their story where they will be living on the same roof. where they will be facing real-life problems about two guys or a gay couple having a child.
What I like about this movie is that it shows the real situations of gay couples in a community. This movie was worth it to watch because the chemistry between the couple is strong and their actings are outstanding.

A gentle, understated film about humans endlessly, fiercely screaming and clawing for love

That's exactly what this movie is to me, a silent scream, a completely inaudible roar for love and happiness - and it is absolutely, unrestrainedly, beautifully joyous.

I love nothing more than quiet, profound explorations of the human condition (forgive my use of that pretentious phrase) so I already knew I was going to like this movie, but I had no idea just how much I'd love it.
It has fantastic writing, stellar performances from the entire cast, and the editing as well as the soundtrack (or more often the lack thereof) perfectly underscore the characters and their emotions and lend the film its distinctive, quiet atmosphere that lets it tell its story so effectively.

But more importantly than all that, this movie has things to say. About being human. About being happy. About love.
And is says these things in so many tender little moments that all build up to a big thundering shout, until every frame seems to scream about reaching for joy and happiness, about the clawing fight and the simple reaching out, about what it means to love someone, anyone at all, and why it is vital for us squishy, brittle, hungry humans to experience that love as the transformative force that it is and let it makes us bigger, and stronger, and kinder. About finding beauty and care and kindness in other people and allowing them to change you, but also about the kindness of being uncompromisingly yourself.
I could spend hours waxing lyrical about the wild joys and endless griefs of being human and why media exploring those themes is so valuable, and this movie certainly gave me ample opportunity for it, but I don't think that's necessary.

All I need to say is that if you like movies with authentic, believable characters, respectful yet unflinching exploration of queer topics, and heavy themes of love and joy and forgiveness and the journey the search for these things takes each of us on, then this movie is without a doubt perfect for you.
And if that doesn't sound like it'd appeal to you, I'd encourage you to watch it anyway; genuinely. There is so much to love about this film, so many wonderful ways it could be viewed, I think you might just end up loving it for a myriad of reasons that I didn't even touch on.
This is one of those films that makes your life slightly better for having seen it, so go watch it and give it the chance to do just that.

I'm pleasantly surprised.

I thought because this is a BL, the actors might feel a bit awkward, but the actor did so well! aaaa I love them!
I'm so surprised when a certain scene popped up! They really put it in a time where I wont think it'll appear ><

STORY
The story are really nice! Its light yet realistic and got a nice pace.
They give big enough reason for the character to act and makes us watcher understand their stand point. And the writer decided a nice reason to "advance" their relationship.
I love how the writer decided to end the story too ><

ACTING/CAST
They did so well aaaa I really like how they act, like, I can see their eyes acted with them. They bring out the character's personality in the story too.

MUSIC
hmm maybe because im too absorbed in the movie, I didn't notice the music that much, but I don't remember it being bad.. so ig that's great

No courage

this began quite well and promised positive development then after half way and the focus on the divorce settlement went completely down hill ruined by Nagisa's character: maybe the intention was to show his magnanimous character so everyone would live happily ever after、 actually for me it showed his real character as completely selfish and self indulgent not to say narcissistic、 that is if we look at the history of the story: first he abandons Shun then appears from the blue and with the child of his marriage ! expecting to be taken back years later〜this may just be credible if we assume Shun could not surrender his love but it says nothing good about Nagisa's character but、 then having settled Sora in a happy household we have the unbelievable denouement in the divorce court: the mother cannot give up her career gets drunk and Sora is picked up on a busy road maybe just avoiding accident it is exposed in the court but then Nagisa who all the first part of the movie shows as a deeply caring father apparently has a dramatic attack of remorse towards his wife based on having taken care of Sora without giving her a fair share in Sora's upbringing! this is literally incredible nonsense of a story 、of course the reason for that situation was not his selfishness but hers wanting to pursue a career、 so his :magnanimous: gesture giving up Sora is both stupid and selfish because he is not thinking of the vulnerable child but the ineffectual wife and maybe it's also self-hating if ーwhich the arguments in the court case heavily portrayed ーhe accepts the homophobic premise that a gay family is weird unconventional and will make it difficult for Sora to grow up。 sorry but if this was part of his motivation ー which I think if we think deeply about it the denouement implies ーit is just an exercise in reinforcing discrimination when the movie could have shown a positive outcome of a happy family based on a gay relationship。 I cannot avoid the suspicion also that it suits Nagisa's selfish character very well to be relieved of the burden of looking after his child to indulge in a "straight gay" relationship [if I may underline with oxymoron]。as noted above the denouement is also based on the completely ridiculous idea his wife would undergo a transformation into a loving and caring mother when she realises Sora is doing badly in her first weeks back with her: completely unrealistic we are not told what happened about the career demands they have magically disappeared it seems with no idea how she will now support herself and her child、 this just does not happen in real life only saints undergo overnight character and personality changes。 in short the whole movie falls apart in a confusion of contradictions and unrealistic impossibilities when it had the chance to make a real contribution to showing a positive picture of a gay family overcoming social discrimination〜 why show acceptance of the relationship by the very conservative village people and then having their support break up the family?? it does not make sense unless lacking the courage to live and work out a happy life as a gay family as part of the society ー courage lacked by Nagisa because I note it was Shun having the courage to declare his love before the villagers but Nagisa who ultimately broke up their family。of course a more positive outcome does not mean taking Sora completely away from her mother but giving her the happiest safest background to grow up in、 but then given the selfish character of Nagisa as ultimately confirmed by the outcome perhaps he could not after all have done that、 but the turnaround completely contradicted the more positive first two thirds of the movie。 I do not know if the writer thought this was some clever artistic twist in the story but it was a complete failure of artistic touch as well as a sell-out reinforcing the homophobia LGBTQ people must still continue to fight against even in western society and still more in Japanese。
