Could have been shorter... such a shame.

I'm the kinda gal that won't stay with a drama just for the sake of finishing what I started. If I'm no longer emotionally invested( or even just invested) in the story or characters anymore, I drop it with no regrets. Sunshine of my life got boring for me, so I dropped it 2 episodes away from the end. I just didn't have the energy to stay with it anymore. I hope that one day I will want to finish it because I did enjoy the first 35 or so episodes but I think it just started feeling like it was going on for too long for me. I feel like the drama was 10 episodes too long (I literally dropped it mid-episode 43 as the ML was about to do something major, I was THAT over it.)

I DID have a few things I absolutely adored about it. I LOVED how they explored traditional Chinese elements and how patriotic and passionate about their culture the leads are (unlike many, I have absolutely no problem with dramas that actively promote their country, ideals, and culture, I never understand why people find this to be problematic.) I learned so much about an art form that I've become so interested in since (Suzhou embroidery), and I did ship the ML and FL super hard (their chemistry is off the charts!). It's a shame it went on so long, it would have been better if it had been shorter, leaving us wishing for more, than for it to be so long, leaving me wishing it could have been a 32 episode drama and dropping it pretty much right at the end. The points of conflict could have been resolved a lot quicker, the loose ends could have been tied up nicely and we could have had a satisfying ending a lot sooner. But alas, things don't always go the way we want them to.

I totally get why dramas like "The Brightest Star in the Sky" have to be 44 episodes long. There's enough going on to warrant that, and most of it is actually good, fun, fluffy stuff. Unfortunately, "Sunshine of My Life" has barely enough plot to fill 24 episodes so to stretch it to 45 is just ridiculous. It's marketed as somewhat cute and fluffy. It is not that. There is nothing cute apart from maybe 10 minutes per episode because of all the nasty, bitchy, manipulative people surrounding the main couple. When they snatch time alone, then they're cute, but that doesn't happen nearly enough.

I skimmed episodes 17-44 because I just couldn't take it anymore. Bad news bears, the annoying second FL who wants the ML is in the show all the way up until the end. She's got some nasty talons and he should have given her her walking papers long ago. The annoying and stalkerish second ML also puts in a regular appearance, although halfway through the series he's distracted with family matters and that whole dramatic side plot that nobody needed. To say nothing of the FL's bitchy rival who just WILL NOT STOP. Oh, and his mother and her archaic ideas. God, I hated her. My constant reaction to her was "Lady, just shut up." I did like his dad, though, since he's played by Wang Jin Song and I also know him as Z. Tao's dad in "The Brightest Star in the Sky." This role is much nicer than in TBSITK.

All this show taught me is that nasty people are everywhere and they constantly keep turning up like bad pennies.

If the series had just focused on the FL/ML relationship, dealt with the jealous rivals quickly, and maybe done more with his cousin and her brother, then I would have probably loved it. As it is, skimming gave me just enough information to let me know what was going on and to keep me from screaming at the screen. In the end, my favorite character ended up being the chauffeur played by Li Xin Zhe. You know it's bad when that happens. I don't know what the creators were thinking.

Amazing Chemistry between the leads

Cons:-
Some parts have Cliche storyline
Annoying 2nd Male Lead and Female lead
Too draggy that it becomes a little boring~~
Jealous FL friends that wanna destroy the FL
Biased ML mother

Pros:-
Amazing chemistry between FL/ML, their interactions were really sweet! Zhang Han really know how to act in romance dramas. In fact, every action of zhang han in the drama shows how much he adore the FL. You dont even need kisses to prove that xDDD

Guess what? unexpectedly, there are no breakups! This is such a nice surprise because typically, this kind of drama always have tons of breakups and makeups. There are misunderstandings but it always ends of nicely within 1 or 2 episodes. It does gets a little frustrating but all will end well.

Such a supportive ML father!! He is always respecting his son's decision and helps his son whenever his wife wanna 'sell' his son off to the rich family.
Teachnically, all the leads father is not bad (not to the point where they want destroy Mingyuan group, just some friendly competition between each company) and 2nd ML's father doesnt even comes out often anyways until towards the end of the drama.

Still worth watching because it's definitely not as twists and turns as other CEO dramas or compared to Zhang han's other CEO dramas this is considered mild and nice.

Great Chemistry + Fashion but Many Annoying characters and side stories

Completed - 5/14/2022

I was interested in watching this drama because of our two leads, Zheng Han and Xu Lu. I liked Zhang Han in "The Four" and Xu Lu in "Love Scenery". I thought this paring would be great for a romantic comedy. Well, their romance ended up to be main reason why I stuck around and finished this drama. Without them and their amazing chemistry and visuals, I would have dropped this drama within the first third of the show. This drama could have been 30 episodes long instead of 45.

Romance - Although I enjoy the main romance, I found the leads spent too much time apart. I like their initial attraction and interaction, and how they get to know each other through the Li Embroidery storyline. But once Mo Fei (FL) went to France, they were apart for too long and their romantic scenes are filled with mindless, cute and fluffy lines without a lot of substance. Luckily the romance continues to be a mature one with them trusting each other, while maintaining a long-distance relationship. Although Tang Ming Xuan (ML) is a little demanding in the beginning, he slowly becomes quite a perfect boyfriend. He is not afraid to show his affection with words and action. He is quite a touchy-feely CEO and enjoys some PDA. Thank goodness he's not one of those overbearing and cold CEOs. Mo Fei on the other hand shows maturity when handling a long-distance relationship, even when she's being pursued by Fang Xiao Yu. I was not aware that Mo Fei is a college student and thought she seems a little immature to catch the attention of Ming Xuan. Her character grows on me and I particularly applaud her passion and perseverance for fashion design and the inclusion of Chinese elements in her clothes. Their scenes are those that I didn't skip and encouraged me to keep watching to see them live happily-ever-after.

Chinese Elements in Fashion - On the one hand, I really appreciate a drama that incorporates so much Chinese cultures and really teach me a lot of about embroidery and other elements used in Mo Fei's designs. However, this cultural education comes on really strong and becomes really preachy. I feel like the patriotism and even 'propaganda' of the Chinese fashion elements/industry is stronger than a military drama about Chinese military pride. Too much time is spent on the education and it drags the plot and the pacing of the drama. I wish the drama can find a better balance.

Annoying Characters - There are so many annoying supporting characters in this drama. We have the unrequited, stalker-ish and clingy love from Fang Xiao Yu and Xia Xue Ling towards our main leads. We also have jealous, two-faced women such as Shen Jia Xi and Bai Xiao Man who couldn't stand the success of Mo Fei. Additionally, we have meddling parents who don't care about how their children's feelings on love and marriage. So much time is spent on these annoying characters and side stories. This has got to be the first drama that I have fast-forwarded so much, basically the last 12 episodes of the drama.

Good Characters - Thank goodness for a few of them that are cute, kind and not annoying. I love the bond between Ming Xuan and his father. They have such a good understanding of business practices and values, and also how to deal with Mrs. Tang (quite hilarious). There's also Mo Fan, the sweet and handsome little brother of Mo Fei. I am grateful for a kind Fang Qian, who came back after 3 years and is not a jealous and crazy woman.

Fashion - If you like beautiful clothes and fashion, this is a great drama to watch. We have age-appropriate and event-appropriate clothing for everyone. Gone are the oversized sweatshirts and sweat pants worn by female leads. Whoever dresses Ming Xuan, you did a great job. Ming Xuan has a varied selection of classic, sleek, flashy, and patterned (some crazy and some delicate) suits. Mo Fei also has a great selection of college/casual wear, business attire and evening gowns. I don't know if there are real fashion designers who made the dresses in the runway shows, but I really like all the dresses in the Mist and Cloud Chinese splash ink-themed fashion show.

Snooze Fest

I've managed to hang with this one, but I really do not know how.

The ML is the epitome of confusing and vague.

The FL is no better, a little communicating can go a long way...

Second male is stalker times 100 and the FL seemed to encourage his behavior.

The two leads have NO CHEMISTRY; none. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

There were no "steamy kisses" that I could see.

And almost all the females in this show need to eat several meals.

Not since Love020 has a female lead made me uncomfortable with her weight.

This was boring, dull , and nowhere near the 8 star rating it has (overly generous).

The only thing I did like about it was the song they would play in the closing scene.

Too long and draggy

45 episodes!! Wayyyyy too long... it was fine until around episode 15, then it just became repetitive going in circles, same ol same ol... towards the end it got a little more interesting.

ML is your CEO, typical but not so typical. He’s not that bossy or domineering, and he treats the FL well. He fell in love at first sight, and he was very focused on her throughout. No silly break ups, and they had rather good communication and discussed their problems and issues. The only thing I didn’t like was how he patted her head, pinched her cheeks and pulled her ears. What is she, your pet???! Kissing scenes were quite nice. Oh, and I couldn’t stand his dressing and outfits. Some were quite classy, but generally was eewwww.

FL was good- good character, not short nor stupid. Independent, clever, pretty and tall! Her character and development was quite well done as well.

SML was so annoying... this is the typical 3rd party where he can’t give up nor move on and kept trying to harass her. Bai Xioman was another irritating/ annoying/ infurioating character. Every time she came on screen I just forwarded all her scenes!

Btw, I skipped A LOT, a lot a lot a lot! Yes it was that boring. I think 25-30 episodes would have suffice.

Give it a try

I'll start this by saying that I had this drama on hold for a long time because of the comment section. After having nothing to watch I decided to give it a try and I don't regret it. The chemistry between the actors was great. It also had very good character development.

Things I learned and liked about this drama;

Mo Fei- She was one of those rare female leads you find in dramas. She always stood her ground and never let anyone bully her. She was confident enough in her relationship that she didn't let anything or anyone come between them. She also drew a clear line between her and the people around her. She wasn't rich but she wasn't struggling either.

Tang Ming Xuan- He was very charismatic throughout the drama and you could tell he was in love with Mo fei. He didn't let his mom or the pressure to marry someone else destroy his relationship. He also let the other girls know their status with them. Something I liked that he said was that " Bussiness is business and love is love" Those two are separate.

Xia Xue Ling- At first I truly disliked her character but towards the end, she had a character development that made her more likable. Something this character taught us is to never put your life on hold because of a man. Never expect that if you sacrifice enough for someone they will return your love.

Fang Xiao Yu- He really had stalkerish tendencies in the beginning. It got to the point where it became super creepy but after his sister came back I feel like his character started growing and he acknowledged that Mo fei was never going to accept him.

Bai Xiao Man- You shouldn't blame other people for your misfortune.

Shen Jia Xi- Jealousy can destroy your life

Mi Duo Duo- True friends aren't about who came first but about who stayed with you and sheered you on when you are successful.

Now the relationship between the Mo siblings was just too adorable. I liked how they both supported each other. It was also refreshing to see an adult relationship where they both sat down and talked it out. No need for break-ups. Misunderstandings? Every couple has them and to me this show had a very clear idea of how it should be handled. Instead of throwing a fit and breaking up only to get back together towards the end, they had them talk and understand each other.

Now the annoying characters:
The mom- She was alright. I see why people are complaining about her character but I've seen worst in other dramas.
The second love interests- again annoying but I have also seen worst in other dramas.

My advice is don't think about the comments,e everyone has different taste in dramas and what someone might dislike you might end up liking it. The sweet interactions and the very good ending everyone got made this drama very good.

Great drama! Would rewatch!

I love watching Zhang Han act! This show, and the cast, did not disappoint. I was not going to watch it because of the length. But dang Facebook and YouTube kept popping up “clips” of the show as it was on going and dang if it did not make me more interested!🙄 Lol.

Storyline - even though it was a bit lengthy, I liked it. I really really liked the fact that there was no breakup between the leads and it lasts till almost the end! It was refreshing to watch a drama that the leads act like mature adults. They work through their problems together. I am glad the FL never gave an inch to his mom. Often in these dramas the mother wins and tears the couple apart, but I am glad they made the FL a strong character.

Acting/Cast - Zhang Han is one of my favorite Chinese actors. I watched him in “Here to Heart” (3 times now😉) and now I have a new favorite of his to watch. He acts so natural that it is almost like watching a real life couple. I loved both his and the FL’s chemistry. The rest of the cast did really well also. I was really happy to see another actress, in this show, from “Here to Heart”. Guo Zi Qian! She has really grown. And she did a great job.

Music - hope to find soon I would love to have it.

Rewatch - Yes! Definitely! Was worth it.
Can watch it on YouTube or Viki. However... Viki did not have all the English subs on there yet. So I had to switch to YouTube for the last few episodes. No compliant here just glad I had options!

SWEET,FLUFFY, ROMANTIC & ENTERTAINING

I really LOVE this drama. NOT SO HEAVY, NOT SO LIGHT! JUST EXACTLY what I needed for a ROMCOM. I’ve watched a lot of drama and I seldom make a review unless I really love it.

ZHANG HAN is ZHANG HAN, I love all his drama projects esp BOSS & ME. His acting never fails. What I really like about him is he is always into his character and never deviates from it. He really know his strength.
For the lead actress, I’m not really familiar with her though but her acting is good, it may not be at par with Zhang Han but the pairing has chemistry and I love it.

Storywise, typical drama. But if you want to have a taste of sweet & fluffy romance, this is for you. I really love the premise, the main lead actress has a bone. She’s outspoken and very goal oriented. On the other hand, the main guy is always there to support her. So true, in real life.
In a relationship to prosper, both of you should grow together. By the way,I love Mingxuan secretary, Yang Guang.

Rewatch value, I rewatch it already for the 2nd time and I am still giggling and happy to see both them.

Love the FL and ML mature way of handling their relationship. Love their love story.

The whole drama is not really recommendable.

I enjoyed, I think only first half of the series. The other half, I skipped A LOT. Then I enjoyed it again on the last 3 or 4 episodes. This series have a lot of filler/ unnecessary scenes. I only continued watching because the ML and FL are so cute and they really have good chemistry. I also love how they handled their misunderstandings and the how they dealt with people around them who wants to break them apart.

Two scenes I really loved. 1, the way Mingxuan dealt with Xueling and how he explained that they should separate work and love. 2, Mingxuan's proposal. It was simple yet it made me cry. I cried more when ML and FL cried. Shows how they truly love each other.

Hated the fillers. Business talks are boring, business troubles between the board/ shareholders are boring. Other supporting roles are also uninteresting.

But what I hated the most are the Female Characters. Most Female Characters ARE SO DUMB. Jiaxi and Xiaoman are both dumbass. Plus ML's mom is also unreasonable though she is reasonable in her own way. These Female Characters are so frustrating. Also hated this fake Jerry Yan, sorry I meant Xiaoyu. He is so creepy. Sorry to fans.

I love ML's Dad and FL's mom. I loved how they supported their child's decision. Mo Fan is also one loveable Character.

All in all, I enjoyed the leads love story. I also enjoyed interesting things about Chinese fashion and that's it.

Heartwarming romance with a slice of high fashion life

10/10 is my rating. This is a 2021 Chinese romantic drama with 45, 45 minute episodes.

First I provide a synopsis then review

Synosis

Infatuation at first sight occurs when workaholic Ming Xuan (Hans Zhang)encounters talented design student Mo Fei (Xu Lu) At the design fair they both attend Ming Xuan overhears the feisty girl passionately telling her friend how the designs featured in the show could be improved. Like Cinderella dropping a shoe, Moi Fei drops a notebook in which she sketched many of the designs from the show, along with improvements and some of her own thoughts and designs. Ming Xuan finds the notebook and is slow to return it as he finds the girl, and her concepts fascinating. Ming Xuan’s family company, Yuan Fashion Group, has a traditional line they are trying to reimagine and globalize. Mo Fei’s designs often incorporate her passion for traditional embroidery which is an aspect that fits well with Ming Xuan’s concept for the future of the traditional fashion line of his business. With so much in common, the two quickly become a growing part of each other’s lives. But there is a top designer with a grudge against Ming Xuan, his former childhood friend, Fang Xiao Yu (Hing Yao) who also finds the beautiful young designer interesting both professionally and romantically. The stage is fully set for romance except Mo Fei wants to continue her studies in Europe and Ming Xuan is convinced bachelorhood is the best way to keep his aspirations for his business in focus. Not willing to alter their goals separation is inevitable and Mo Fei heads to Paris while Ming Xuan remains in China. This separation could have been the end to a budding romance until fate steps in and Ming Xuan has the opportunity to launch a European fashion line which intersects with Mo Fei in terms of a joint business opportunity.

Review

This was recommended by someone when I said I like happy endings and female leads that are not whiney. She recommended four Chinese drama series and this is the third one I have watched and the recommendations were perfect.

If you like love stories where the leads fall in love and stick with each other through everything this is one of the few where there isn‘t a huge break up. The slice of life in the Chinese and French fashion industries is really compelling. All of the characters were well developed. There were so many likable characters and the villains we’re motivated by jealousy and narcissism which made them suitable love to hate characters. The central love story follows a predictable pattern but there is enough intrigue around it that it makes it an enjoyable watch from start to finish. I would rewatch it and highly recommend it for those that
like slice of life, heart warming love stories and strong female leads.
