No Chemistry

It took me several tries to get into this.

I love e-gaming and liked some of the graphics (when they were playing in game).

The OST was okay, nothing too spectacular.

The story over all was cute; fun and lovable gamer guys.

Kind of cringe-y and dragged in a lot of spots.

Now for the very unpopular opinion of one lady who has watched too many dramas over the years.

The biggest issue for me was the two main leads and their severe lack of chemistry.

The ML had a lot of flirty, tongue in cheek innuendos that I think were delivered mediocre and came off most times more of a joke (he was supposed to be building tension between the two and there was none).

It may be due to his age or lack of life experience, but it could also be who he was paired with.

The FL had very little personality of her own and for as many times as they kissed, you'd think she would've gotten the hang of it halfway through.

This had promise, but fell short ... very short.

Many others seem to like it, but for me it just wasn't worth all the hype and toward the end I was ready for it to conclude.

A lot of things were hidden, mainly the reason.

This was a sweet story at times, frustrating at other times.

My biggest gripe comes from the FL character early on.

It almost seemed as if the 14 year old version was more mature than the 18 year old.

I had a hard time at one point keeping track of her age due to her overly childish behavior and ridiculous baby voice.

No one I know has ever acted or talked like that.

From other reviews it seems she does this intentionally (?) which is even more bizarre for a character to do.

The ML was pure eye candy and he knows it.

This role was just another way for him to boost his fan count.

I disliked the way he dressed / styling of his character.

Some scenes his jeans seemed too high up and he'd have his shirt tucked in like someone's grandpa.

A 5 year age difference is not that much, especially not to dress him so much older.

I appreciated the few times they did things and it was a first for both.

Example: walking together on campus and then he plays basketball.

Even though he had already been to college, he didn't have the chance to do 'couple things'.

We saw very little development in his feelings for the FL though which was a let down.

It was very sudden and not very convincing.

The reason seems to be a complete mystery other than a few flashbacks of him looking at her (very short span of time).

He literally was calling her kid and treating her like a little sister one day and then BAM! all of a sudden he's head over heels in love with her.

How?

They could've spent more time developing that part of the story and less time on the fact that his dad killed someone while drunk driving.

I also didn't understand the constant emphasis on how wealthy the FL supposedly was.

They seemed to be middle class, maybe a little higher.

Not too impressive but somehow was a big point.

The leads are both good actors so they played their parts well, but their chemistry was very lacking.

Not a popular opinion, but given my seasoned experience, one I am sticking with.

I was not moved by it, but overall it was a good watch.

Just not worth all the 9s and 10s floating about.

Oath of what?

I just didn't like it.

I am not sure what exactly it was, but the chemistry was off to me.

I guess I was expecting more.

That seems to be my fault lately, I expect decent shows and am left underwhelmed.

The female lead is not one of my favorites ether, so that could have a lot to do with it.

I will keep searching for a great C-drama.

All the popular ones are falling flat and short with me.

And for some reason I can not post my review unless I make it 500 words.

My biggest qualm is tired story lines, lackluster chemistry, and boring clichés.

Soundtrack to sleep...

I appreciate previous work from the ML and was excited to see him in more of a romantic type role.

I was not excited by his female counterpart, her acting always falls flat for me.
I struggled through other dramas she has been in.

This was nothing spectacular or new in terms of plot or storyline.
Male and female been friends for years, one has been in love with the other.

I am so glad they didn't drag this on for 12 or 16 episodes.

It was not that deep or memorable, just a way to pass time or have something on to doze off to.

Fluffy watch

I never read the manga so just hopped on in this b/c it sounded interesting and the ML is soft on the eyes.

Let's be honest ... no one is watching this for an earth shattering, award winning performance of some mind bending show.

This is what it is intended to be - a piece of fluff.

It's one of those you go into for nothing more than gluttonous enjoyment.

The characters had great chemistry, the story was cute and cavity inducing (sweet sweet), and sailed on through from start to finish with no problem.

Over all I enjoyed it.

The story is not too far fetched, not all that 'taboo', and certainly not incest.

It's going on the list with my other "fill the weekend" movies / shows.

And shout out to ECOTV for being the first on subbing it - you're the real MVP.

Wonderful acting by ML

I started this with no expectation.

I had not heard of the story beforehand, did not read comments, just hopped on it.

The ML was phenomenal .. he has really grown.

There were many scenes where his eyes had a whole conversation .. amazing.

His facial features, they way he physically seemed to demand attention at times was wonderful.

That being said .. the FL was not that great .. overall she grated my nerves.

Her voice .. argh ... I came close to dropping it so many times because of her voice alone.

I understand completely her character, but it was 99 percent utter foolishness.

Seemed a bit ridiculous that so many were in love with the FL.

There was no chemistry between the two leads.

As many times as they kissed (even if most were to swap bodies) nothing sparked between them.

All other actors did very well in their roles, even the small parts meshed well.

The best thing to me was the costumes and scenery / visuals.

Some were completely breath taking.

That first dragon ride - wooo!

It flowed pretty well from start to finish.

Was a good watch, but not something I would re-watch.

I hope Dylan continues to grow and have great success as an actor.

He certainly did his thing with this role!

Squidward has more appeal ...

Another flop from Netflix.

Do they change writers halfway on projects?

Or maybe they just toss storylines up in the air and go with which one hits the floor first.

It seems the expectations for a good watch are falling lower and lower.

Society is now entertained by the glibbest drivel.

This was way overhyped and had more holes than a slice of swiss cheese.

Maybe I am just too critical and think too much, but most of this was unrealistic.

Too many moments of cringe based off of the lack of simple logic not being used.

And that's putting it kindly.

We're continually being mocked by the elite, why subject ourselves to more mindless tv based on this concept?

The producers knew this was hot garbage, nevertheless...

I made it .. barely.

I feel like I need a long, hot bath and some sort of special trophy after enduring that.

The whole 'friends with benefits' concept must be foreign to whoever wrote this.

Their interactions from the start were not even close to a FWB type of vibe.

The smoking and then kissing was a huge turn off.

The whole smoking angle in general added a layer of grime that just wasn't needed.

The FL was a shell of a space cadet.

ML was childish and had the personality of a spore.

Not sure why so many had second lead syndrome.

I wouldn't want that sweet little guy to end up with someone like the Nabi.

None of the side characters mattered much or were remarkable in their performance.

Music was alright, nothing too spectacular and fit where it should.

Overall - this was like a bland jello mold; just kind of sat there and jiggled from time to time.

The real mystery is how this made it on screen...

Opening scene we see a young, slim, attractive female $#*! face wasted drunk roaming the streets.
This is quite a normal thing for her as it is repeated in other episodes.

This alone needs to stop.

Time and again dramas portray females getting completely, blackout wasted drunk then wandering around in public.
Sitting on sidewalks, showing off for strangers, almost kissing the main lead.

This is a very dangerous thing to continually portray. Females should not be getting this intoxicated in the first place, let alone by themselves and then wandering around at night.

The leads had no chemistry.

The FL was just obnoxious and not a very good business person.

The ML had the personality of a dust mite.

The subs were horrendous.

Nothing special about it from start to finish.

Had everything but 'class' ...

Ah .. where to begin.

I went into this without even reading a synopsis, dove on into the murky water.

And what murky water it was.

First episode was .. interesting.

I feel the 1st person visual experience of the dad's accident was not needed; made me cry (my own dad died in a car accident).

The villainous son had such an odd look to him - almost like a modern joker in Korean form.

I can't put my finger on it, but his look was just off throughout.

I kind of felt bad for him b/c he was clearly mentally sick due to years of abuse.

Which brings me to the bad dad, the owner of Jaanga (or however you spell it).

He said he started the company so his family would never starve YET he starved his family of the most important thing - love.

He was horrendous to everyone around him, especially his sons.

And do people really get away with slapping others in front of a whole board meeting?

Such odd concepts of abuse scattered about that seem almost over kill (for lack of a better word).

He was a vile creature and the actor portraying him did a great job pulling off the sliminess of the character.

The ML was nothing too special - his feelings were kind of all over the place in the end.

And what was with the romance angle?

His first love choice was just weird; selfish, self centered, and grossly contradicted his core persona.

Then the FL was obnoxious, had horrible hair (distracting throughout), was creepy stalker-ish with ML, completely unprofessional, and her overall role was just ridiculous.

How is a teenager (with no societal status other than social media followers) leading corporate big wigs around, calling the shots?

And then the "woke" concepts they tried to fit in this ... *smh*

There were several that could've been left out.

The story was all over the place already and the side issues were flung in there with no rhyme or reason.

There was no chemistry, no romance, very little solid story to go off of, and outlandish business scenarios.

The music was not that great .. intro song grated my nerves.

Eh .. it was a weekend watch that ended up not being very enjoyable.

Just more garbage churned out by Netflix.

What talent?

What a mess .. a professional crew would need a week to clean it up.

The ML is one of my favorites and seems to be a dynamite kisser, but the FL here was not a good match.

I do not care for her and she acts the same in all of her dramas.
Then when her co stars go to kiss her, she sits there like a cold fish.

The second ML was ridiculous in every sense of the word and clearly overstepped numerous professional boundaries.

The story was borderline stupid, from all angles.

I have never seen the Korean version, so I may venture that way soon.

For someone who had such a sense of OCD (or whatever they choose to name it) it was not represented very well and there were often times he magically forgot he had it.

I came for Jasper, I stayed for Jasper,... I will not make that mistake twice.

Meh

I was debating on what to title this review.

I usually work some snarky bit in, but with this one all I have is MEH.

A generic, lackluster, non emotional response to a mediocre experience.

"Expressing a lack of interest" is the actual definition.

There were a few laugh out loud moments, but those were few and far between.

Very few and very far.

The characters were mediocre, the writing was lackluster (and that is being kind), the chemistry was not there, and plastic surgery reigned supreme on the screen.

I had a hard time caring about any of the characters, their stories, or who they ended up with.

Everyone just looked odd to me and some scenes were a little too over the top to take seriously.

I get that the FL was supposed to be strong and have a fiery temper, but my interest for her dropped to zero when she hit the ML in the face, breaking his nose or whatever that was all about.

If the roles were reversed, we never would say a man was strong for hitting a woman in the face over her behavior.

It just fell very short and the longer I watched, the worse it became.

Hello there you little gem!

I stumbled upon this all by accident and am so glad I did!

It was very well done for how short it was overall.

The FL was spectacular .. I'd like to see her and the ML together again.

The characters all had great chemistry together.

And it was actual adult chemistry.

Not the usual childish and outlandish things they make adults do in dramas - like tripping and kissing or waking up next to someone and screaming ( I mean really ... ).

The costumes and scenery were on point.

There was one actual laugh out loud moment I had which was a nice surprise.

The storyline was easy to follow and made sense.

I appreciate how it all tied together neatly at the end.

I may even re-watch on a rainy day.

Now for the things that weren't all that great....

I did not care for the BL angle they tried to take w. the emperor toward the end; it was not needed.

The music was okay, but there were some parts it was a little too loud.

The ML sure did lose a lot of blood and at several different times.

He was already too slim and if he really kept bleeding like that irl, he'd be dead.

His ears were a little odd to me too and they were a bit of a distraction in a few scenes.

Overall though, this was a great surprise and much needed .. I kept encountering dud ,after dud, after overly popular for no reason dud.

She was pretty before and after ..

I really do not get their concept of unattractive in the Asian drama world.

From this version on down to the others.

The only thing the FL needed from the start was a flat iron and some decent clothes.

This version was more short and to the point than the other two.

I don't care for the story in any version, but this one was my favorite and only because of the male lead.

I'd like to see him and the FL paired in another romantic drama, they had pretty good chemistry.

She did a great job being nervous around him in close proximity.

The second male was a cutie pie and like the previous versions, the best friend is not one of my favorite characters.

I may re watch it if I have nothing else to pass the time with, otherwise, once was more than enough.

I found myself skipping through most of the episodes toward the end.

Snooze Fest

I've managed to hang with this one, but I really do not know how.

The ML is the epitome of confusing and vague.

The FL is no better, a little communicating can go a long way...

Second male is stalker times 100 and the FL seemed to encourage his behavior.

The two leads have NO CHEMISTRY; none. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

There were no "steamy kisses" that I could see.

And almost all the females in this show need to eat several meals.

Not since Love020 has a female lead made me uncomfortable with her weight.

This was boring, dull , and nowhere near the 8 star rating it has (overly generous).

The only thing I did like about it was the song they would play in the closing scene.
