Great start, dragged midway but good ending

I originally started this drama after watching a scene on YouTube when the FL meets the third male lead. I thought TML was the ML and started this drama only to immediately realise that he was not the ML. But I was not disappointed by the real ML as I thought I'd be.

I loved how this drama started off with the two leads already crushing on each other HARD. At the start we saw the drama mostly from the FL's POV and how she has a crush on the ML who seems to be indifferent towards her. But, man was that wrong. Though she has a HUGE crush on the ML, the ML somehow has an even BIGGER crush on the FL and it's so adorable, sweet and so bloody pure. They both really liked each other from the begining and for some reason it gave me Miraculous (Adrian and Marinette) vibes, especially with all the "but we're friends" excuse.

I loved the relationship between the SML and the FL. The SML has SML the typical characteristics of a SML, the guy that was always by the FL's side and later developed a crush on her, but he is also the loyal best friend (like a bromance). He was also the comedic character as well as childhood/life-long friend of the FL. I LOVED him all throughout, but he had no chance with the FL because their relationship was really more like siblings so I couldn't really get second lead syndrome.

The TML is introduced after several episodes and by his entrance he really did seem like he'd be the ML. He is the rich, bully and playboy that picks on the FL and falls for her after litterally getting hit by her several times, twice on their first meeting. He gave me vibes of the ML from Meteor Garden, the 2018 one where the ML immediately fell for the FL. He genuinely liked the FL and I got serious second lead syndrome for him. When the drama started to drag and the ML started to get on my nerves because of the SFL (his childhood friend), I really wanted the FL to end up with the TML, because TML was so genuine and really stuck by the FL. His ending reminded me of the SML in My Little Princess.

Nicknames the TML "Senior" has for the ML and SML:
"Zombie Face" = ML
"Idiot Face" = SML

As far as humor, the ML was not funny, at all, I mean "zombie face" was the perfect nickname for him. The SML was hilarious and I loved him, but when the TML came in, he was somehow so much funnier and made the plot even better. The three of them had some of the funniest scenes together, I'd rewatch this drama just for their scenes together. The plot got sad for the TML though.

This drama started off great and I really liked the plot of the main leads until they finally confessed to each other. I also loved how flirty the ML was with the FL when they finally got together, but their plot got annoying after that, mostly because of the ML. The second lead couple was really cute and hilarious and never failed lighten the mood. The plot dragged and I skipped through the last few episodes, watched about 5 minutes of each of the last few episodes.

Watch it, if you want a light and easygoing drama.

The story was cute but had a bunch of unrealistic scenarious even for a tv series. There were a lot of moments, where the "problems" felt not only forced but also were very easily dealt with . (for example our main character, Zuo An, is supposed to have a very strict father, who wants his son to be the best doctor or something, but then we literally see this dilema in like 3-4 little segments and at one point Zuo An is like "dad, I know what I'm doing" and the father is like "Yes, you are an adult, I will support you in everything" and we never see the father again). Overall the story is nothing new and can be rather predictible at times but it was still cute.
The actors acted very well and matched the rather childish story (considering that most of the time they are meant to be in university, but still acted like teens, that don't know how to express their feelings). And let me tell you... Liu Yin Jun (Zhan Yue) and Han Xin Yu (Sun Anning) should win awards for most annoying characters. I've never wanted to punch a character so bad in my life, so that only means they did a great job with their roles.
I think the show was way too long and could've easily ended sooner and it was very hard to watch the last few episodes, because they just felt like fillers. It took them 25 episodes for the main couple to actually act on their feelings and then their "obstacles" almost felt forced at the end.
I don't think I will rewatch the whole thing, but maybe only some of the scenes, because the actual main lovestory is rather wholesome.

Slow burning Romantic Drama

I like this Drama, but it is slow to develop. Again the Chinese Writers and Produces did the typical thing, gave the FL an appearance as a mindless, mumbling, low esteem and an enabler female. The ML is a cold, emotionalist male. The supporting cast seems to be more in-depth than the ML and FL.

Gu Xiao Man, though strong physically, she is weak mindless. She can stand up to everyone but Zuo An. Every time they meet she mumbles, allows him to yank around. She is obsessed with him and will follow him anywhere and do anything for him. Zuo An is a emotionalist all about him succeeding and he don't care about anyone else (his father made him that way). Some of the attics they pull on the way to love, is straight up funny.

The interactions of the female roomies are precious. A person can see how a person can be. It is heart breaking when did an evil thing to Gu Xiao Man. Some folks need to get out of the way and let it happen.

Must say something about the scenery: The College looks great. Filming around town gives a person look at a modern city hustle and bustle it brings. (Yes, I know they clean it up for the filming) It's nice to see young people hang out just like everyone else in the world. The beaches look fantastic.

32 episodes is too long for this Series. It should of been like this:
1-2 - develop characters
3-5 -Primary School years
6-10 - College years
11-15 - tie up loose end (ie. Marriage, Professional jobs)

I felt that they drugged the Series out to far. The Storyline could of been told in 15-20 Episodes. There are some good Episodes and then there are some that make you wonder why it was there. Of all the Episodes 32 was the best. The emotions were so visible.

It's a sweet story line about classmates who are neighbors and become friends as they navigate their lives from high school to college. The leads are very kind and caring, although the female is a bit naive. The drama is slow and does take time to get to certain points in the story so you have to have patience. I did feel the story itself could have been done in less episodes if they weren't really trying to drag out the drama between all characters. If the story was focused more on them growing together instead of constantly misunderstanding each other, it could have had more potential. Also part of their story had to do with things from their past and there were a few things that got quite confusing. They needed more on the female lead, illustrating how she did in college when the male lead was not around to help her overcome her obstacles since I felt her story was rushed. They could have done more to finish off the story instead of the way they did.

Easy, unoriginal young-love story

A rather easy watch about young love. Not very original (typical Cdrama about high-school love developing as becoming adults); similarities with other series/known tropes.

Felt like the script lost quality towards the end; was a bit more lacking or took some shortcuts.

It is entertaining though, I especially thought the female main character added most originality /value in the first half (ca).

I did not like the "dream sequences"; I ended up skipping most of those, and also skipped some flashbacks.

Felt the chemistry was a bit lacking. Might be due to the "prim and proper" behaviour not giving them much room to act, resulting in what I thought was some rather "stiff" interactions.

Going in to it, I knew that this drama would be your average coming of age drama with the same tropes we've seen over and over. I didnt mind, in fact, I love these kinds of stories.

The drama started off really promising. The female lead was strong and confident and I really liked it. Same with the male lead. But as time went on, I was dissapointed with the lack of character development for both of them. I love slowburn dramas too, but I didn't exactly enjoy how this one was executed. It felt like they were uselessly dragging on the storyline and it kind of felt unnecessary. By the end, it felt like the characters had gotten nowhere in terms of their development and almost nothing had changed. Not to mention that the ending was EXTREMELY rushed.

Overall, I didn't quite enjoy this show. But, the romance was fluffy and cute and I ended up liking some of the characters. I definitely wont be rewatching it, but i'd say give it a try first.

A coming of age story, this follows Gu Xiao Man. A senior in high school, she follows the familiar archetype of being the loveable, but unmotivated student. Our bumbling heroine has one standout characteristic though, she is a nearly professional Sanda fighter, having won repeated medals all throughout her childhood. When it's time to select a college, she becomes motivated to get accepted into medical school in order to follow her first love and childhood neighbor, Zuo An. Only problem, she is petrified of blood and feints at the sight of it!

I'll be honest, I didn't finish this one. All of it feels like you've seen it before, offering nothing new to viewers. While I only had about five episodes left, I just couldn't remain vested in the plot or characters. I believe it's trying to follow the success of 2019's unexpected hit, Put Your Head on My Shoulder, which is so close, even down to the styling. Outside some cute moments, I felt it the story was too predictable, the actors and actress feel miscast, and acting was mediocre.

If you like this type of drama, where you follow the cast from high school into college/adult life (I do!), I'd recommend instead A Love So Beautiful; one of my personal favorites. Or if C-Dramas are your jam, another good one is Le Coup De Foudre (Love at first Sight). Others include Playful Kiss for K-drama fans, or if you like the super sweet, check out the Japanese version: Mischievous Kiss.

Well, what do you do when you've had a crush for a long time? You'll work hard to be someone that can be with them.

Story-wise it was okay. The first part of the drama when they are high school students is your typical high school love drama. They grow up together through many conflicts throughout the university. However, what I didn't get were Gu Xiao Man's wuxia dream sequences, they weren't necessary. If they had enough time to put those in then why didn't they work more on the plot? As always Chinese dramas love to put in fillers so you'll just have to deal with watching many study scenes and side stories. But overall this drama teaches you that even if you don't think you can do it, with hard work you can. {8.0}

The cast of this show is all relatively new people in the acting industry so I wasn't really expecting much but they did a decent portrayal of the characters. Let's just note that last episode with Lu Zhao Hua (Gu Xiao Man), her acting really caught me off guard with her emotions. If only she was able to show more of that within the series rather than the last episode it would have been better. {8.5}

Music well it's a youth drama so it's pretty light and fluffy. Nothing too special, the music fits the mood of the scene and that's about it. {7.5}

Would I watch it again? Well, I'll be honest here I almost dropped this drama a bit over midway through because I got sick of how long it was dragging on. So unlikely I'll watch it again but you never know I might just watch some cute scenes. {6.5}

A little side note: Why did they change their hairstyles all of a sudden? I know it's supposed to show maturation but they could have chosen other hairstyles. For example, Liu Yu Han (Zuo An) looked cute with his high school hairstyle but then they cut it off and it didn't suit him (no offence please don't come at me fangirls).

The main leads were annoying to the point that i had to force myself to finish this show. The female lead can never speak up when it counts. Whenever something important happens for some reason she allows others to speak for her...says nothing...or worse...she starts stammering. This was so annoying especially when it was an important issue.

The main lead was annoying in his obliviousness. Also he allowed himself to be easily manipulated.

The writers did this drama so wrong. The way the female lead allowed her every decision to be manipulated by what the male lead was doing irked me to no end. They built up a story initially about her wanting to be a teacher because her mother was a teacher and she fought to do well at her college exams for this dream...Only to turn around and choose to go study at a medical school because that's where the male lead was going. Not forgetting to mention she has a freaking phobia of blood.

The side characters were also extremely annoying especially her best friend who always seem to get in the way. Her two roommates with friends like those.....

This show is literally like a group of bad writers got together and decided to write a show. The female lead did not even get the privilege of being mad at the male lead for an episode (even though he deserved it) by the next episode she was wondering how he was doing and apologising to him FIRST! it blew my mind to see a woman written so pitifully and it just made me wonder whether asian girls are like that in real life.

If you want to be annoyed every single episode. THIS IS THE SHOW FOR YOU!
