Better than expected but still a typical C-drama

Where do they come up with these titles? There’s no ‘sweet first love’ in this unless you’re referring to ML, and his experience wasn’t exactly sweet since FL kept him pursuing her throughout most of the drama. As for everyone else, they didn’t get their ‘first loves’ except for maybe Li Din, but who knows if Zihui was his first love or not? I suggest they go hire the people who give names to paint chips and nail polish to come up with more descriptive titles.

I honestly didn’t find this drama as bad as some people said it was. Sure, it was a typical high school to adulthood C-drama, but I didn’t get an ick vibe. I personally have no problem with foster/adopted/step siblings becoming romantically involved. As long as they don’t share blood, I’m fine with it. Yes, ML and FL were raised as siblings, but they were aware that they weren't true brother/sister, and it just seemed natural for ML’s parents to raise their best friends’ daughter. Honestly, for me, there's more an ick factor with older woman/younger men romances.

As for ML, he was certainly overly possessive, jealous and controlling, but I didn’t get a dangerous vibe. He was more a bully than anything else, but he did try to change in episode 21, doing things that he would have felt silly – like wearing a panda bear outfit, dancing with rabbit ears, cooking and even buying her a lizard. He was always there for her, and she did sort of take him for granted. He reminded me of the plant in Little Shop of Horrors because he was constantly telling her to feed him and used his stomach issues to gain her sympathy on more than one occasion. I’m not a fan of the poker face ML, but I do like how guys like this don’t give the obsessed female rivals the time of day. He was rude and dismissive of both Zihui and Ouyang Qingxue. I just wish he would have actually told Qingxue that he wouldn’t marry her even if FL hadn’t existed. He could have at least been more expressive to Qin Yao and told his friend he wouldn't marry that harpy for all the investment funds in China. The patch on his neck was odd, and they should have covered the tattoo with make-up, made him wear shirts with collars or get a patch that blended better. Back to his possessiveness – I didn’t find him as dangerous as some MLs I’ve seen (like the guy in Well-Intended Love that lied about FL having an illness when he could have just asked her out like a normal person). But, this is the great thing about fiction – ML will never become dangerous unless it’s written in the script. He’ll never cross the line so those viewers who like their men a little possessive can indulge without being frightened. In real life, you should take note of the red flags though, ok?

FL was cute without being too cute, if you know what I mean. She also wore sensible heels! She was definitely likeable, but I wish being ‘nice’ didn’t mean she takes all the crap flung at her by this drama’s trio of harpies (Qingxue, Monica and Qi Yuan) and their minions. At least, once in a while, she did speak up for herself, and she had the protection of ML and Ouyang Yu although I would have liked to see her take care of these harpies herself instead of relying on men to fight her battles. I really don’t know why these FLs let these b****** bully them so badly. You’ve got a mouth – use it! I agree with other reviewers about how FL reacted to Qingxue big revelation about her parents’ death. Why in the world would you believe this harpy over your adopted parents? I mean, who of the two displays the better character here? The harpy or the people who have taken care of and loved you all these years? I can understand being shaken at first, but after thinking about it, you should be reasonable and listen to their side of the story. At one point, she tells a dog she thought was a stray that both of them don’t have homes. Well, who’s fault is that? It was your decision to take off. But, on the positive, her self-imposed exile did help her grow up and take care of herself. I’m glad when she and ML went through a ‘silent treatment’ phase that she was the one that finally went to him, even though ML was at fault (jealous again, he was constantly jumping to conclusions). Why? Because it was always ML running after her. It was nice to see her seek him out for once. It was a little odd how she suddenly switched careers; ok, you can’t handle hospital work but what about medical research like she’d already done with Dr. Thomas? Why throw all that schooling away? And 1) where did they get the money to open this dessert shop and 2) when did she learn to make gourmet desserts?

Just a few comments on the other characters:

Le Diyin was a sweetie, but can't you just find this guy a new heart? Seems like a transplant would have been simpler.

As Zihui asked - was Qin Yao blind? Why did this guy continue to like Qi Yuan when he could clearly see what a vindictive, nasty shrew she was? For old times sake? He said she was a spoiled brat before her parents lost their money and you liked that? FL was his friend yet he just stood there and let Qi Yuan mock and sneer at her. He wasn’t worthy of being FL’s first love. He was an idiot....as a lot of first loves are. Why these people put them on pedestals is beyond me.

Qingxue was a first-class psycho chick who needed to be in a mental hospital. Her conceit was astronomical yet ML humiliated her as a child and gave her low self esteem? Really? FL didn’t do anything to her (except have ML’s love and devotion, which she didn’t accept for the majority of the drama) yet this spoiled baby had to maliciously harass her at every turn. Like that’s going to make ML fall in love with you instead? Then when ML turns down her investment/business marriage, she uses her family’s influence to make sure he’s not hired by someone else. And, at the end, she basically receives no consequences for all the harassment the MC had to endure because of her. I hate these kinds of characters, and it seems like every C-drama has one. And, let’s not forget her henchwoman, Monica, who tries her best to make FL’s work life a living hell because she wants psycho chick's brother who also likes FL. She didn't receive any consequences either. Just a question – are work places actually like this these days? Where groups of women will make snarky comments within earshot of their victim? I worked with women in a large company in the past, and I don’t remember this ever happening, but that was 20 years ago so maybe the current workforce is different. Or maybe Cdramas just exaggerate this? I don't know.

Overall, I enjoyed this drama, even though it was packed full of vindictive harpies who didn't get any consequences for their disgusting behavior. I like my leading men to be a bit more lively in terms of expression, but there was never a doubt that ML was devoted only and always to FL. I was glad they and their parents had a happy ending. As usual, I wasn't interested in the second couple's (Lihui & Li Din) romance.

I found the storyline quite boring and frustrating to watch.

SPOILER!

When she decided to believe a person that has been sabotaging her throughout the entire show over the people who raised her it was quite frustrating. Also, the couple did not face any major adversities that they did not bring on themselves, each time the couple went through a rough patch it was completely in their control with no real outside persuasion. Overall, I would not rewatch it as it seemed as though the show could have been completed in 6 episodes but was stretched to last for 24.

Confusing Plot and Annoying FL

I watched a clip of this show and thought it would an easy fluffy watch...I am so disappointed.

This was a trainwreck of a plot....half the time, the story didn't make sense. Say for example, in the beginning, the FL is struggling with school work in high school but then miraculously (or is it because only the ML could save her from her bad grades..?) she gets into med school, is overworking at her partime job and is at the top of her class???? Actually, the change in character of the FL in university doesn't make sense. She becomes so annoying! Aaaaargh! How would you believe a random stranger instead of your loving foster parents when the stranger says to you that they killed your biological parents? I hated her for turning her back on her foster parents like that...and that's how the plot gets frustratingly confusing, you'd think she will take time to investigate the matter. Instead, she is focused 100% on her best friend and doing everything to ignore the ML? The main conflict isn't resolved until the very end and so you have story that just draaaaaaags

On the other hand, the ML botched all the romantic scenes, was too obsessive and then all those times he forces a kiss or tries to manipulate the FL...ewww.

Anyway, I finished the drama which says a lot.

Love a toxic popular male lead? Here you go.

This is my first review but definitely not the first C drama that I watched and I've honestly seen better.

Story and main characters: firstly I'd like to say that this is not a sweet or fluffy drama. Although there are no heavy themes, but the sweetness is overshadowed by the toxic character of the ML. There are some major plotholes like how did she magically get so good in studies despite not studying, her sleepwalking issues, and above all why she chose to believe a mere voice recording and all that. The ML was controlling and over possessive and i don't like that but he was protective so that's a plus i guess. But he is too immature and childish. There's the love polygon cliche and honestly i like the other admirers more. There's obviously the evil chick squad cliche too and they are loathsome. Also the FL is dumb and very easy to manipulate and too emotional.
Also i saw a lot of reviews regarding incest. Well the girl was adopted when both the kids were pretty grown up and and childhood friends. Also, even in childhood the boy liked her (it was shown in a flashback scene for those who didn't notice it). So i wouldn't really say it's incest. Adoption was more like bringing her up after she lost her memory than passing her as their own daughter.

Acting: The ML' acting improved a lot towards the end (or maybe that's how it was supposed to be with his expressions), so i will say it was okay although his character isn't at all attractive. The FL sometimes tries to be too cute and it's annoying. Her acting felt more natural towards the end too. Mr Ouyang played the heartbroken and helpless guilty lover very well. Le Diyin's acting was beautiful. Qin Yao's regretfulness was visible.

Other characters: So Le Diyin is my most favorite. He is super sweet and i felt that he really loved the FL. Ouyang Yu (he deserved a lot better but was a little too emotional) and Qin Yao were also good. I also felt that Ouyang Yu was much better suited to the FL than the real ML (i personally think how could the FL fall for him when there were better people around, unless she was masochistic?). I didn't like the ML at all until towards the end. Liu Zihui was cool. Ouyang Qingxue was disgusting throughout. The parents of ML were so loving (and especially when the mother walked in on them cracked me up).

So i guess that's pretty long review but that sums it all up. I stuck around till the end mainly because i wanted to know what would happen to the side characters, because the story of the main character was pretty unrealistic to begin with. I watched it once but I'd never rewatch it. There's loads of better high school dramas out there.

Cute story without much drama between main couple!

What I like the most about this drama is that there was not any big misunderstanding or fight between the main couple. I loved how ML was always supportive towards FL, I loved watching him finally smile at the last episodes and more than anything I loved watching his change to a loving partner. I liked that FL trusted ML's love for her and was defending their relationship. I liked how the couple had supportive friends that helped their relationship and I am happy that FL's friend didn't sabotage the main couple's relationship but helped them. Finally, I liked how loving and supporting main couple's parents were.

Unfortunately there was a villain and this is one of the reasons I gave this rating. I didn't like the fact that she had nothing better to do in her life and was only making troubles for FL.The other reason is that ML didn't have to treat FL like Cinderella or servant at first. That was a little too much.

Sweetness over Overloaded which will make you annoyed..

Though i have watched this drama a quite long ago But Some of my friends asked why i didn’t find in interesting.. Here i m briefing this in short..

FIRSTLY there should be some limits of romance and cliches.. But i found romantic scenes more and more Than my expectations..
That really made me annoyed..
Then Comes OVER CARING brother / bf.. At first it was good to see but then it became irritating..

Secondly the thing annoyed me most was "one track storyline" Like His obsession towards her was so irritating.. He liked her bcoz she can cook.. It was the most unreasonable thing in the whole drama..

So overall it was very very boreing.. I just couldn’t find the reason why i should watch this.. I didn’t find the main purpose of watching the drama..
BUT IF U ARE FULLY BORED AND WANT SOMETHING SWEET WITHOUT ANY 3RD PARTY INTERVATION.. THEN U R HIGLY RECOMMENDED THIS ONE..

If you are looking for something light....this is not the place, but I personally would suggest watching this drama if you are a fan of major plot twists or drama.
The male lead is absolutely ✨DREAMY✨ being a rookie did an awesome job.
If you are a teen and watching this drama it might be a little hard to watch because of the storyline, but otherwise it is absolutely fun to watch.
If you have already read the book and are here to view it after I think your exceptions would be supposed.
To be honest, Once this drama ended I missed it, and its songs were stuck in my head all the time.
I highly suggest watching this drama.

Have you ever meet someone on the first sight you already can said she is a snake... Ou Yang Qing Xue (QY) is this kind of woman. The first time she appear I already said she is a snake and turn out she is a very dangerous snake... ^_^

Opposite from 'The Drama Worm' write in her/his review, I can't too blame Su Nian Feng/Xiao Feng (XF) for just leave the house or angry to Su Mu Yun (MY) after hear what QY said, however blood is thicker than water right. If this's happen to me at that age, maybe i also will be throw tantrum, leave house..? Yes probably. Why...? Because it's a shock news. Can you imagine who you think your family turn out the one who cause your real family dead... Angry of course, absolutely. Don't know what to do, don't know how to face my 'family'. So yeah i also probably will gonna run away from home, cooling myself down. After cooling myself down then I can think what's the truth beyond all that. If this happen to me at more mature age, maybe I'm not gonna throw tantrum, but more calm & analyze better.

I notice some force or you can say the stupidness in the plot, but i can't say it's a plot holes:
* When XF have problem, the one she call is Le Di Yin (DY) not Liu Zi Hui (ZH). Usually when we girl have problem, we more comfortable talk with girl than man. Especially when we need support, just like XF really need support form her friend at that time. It's just like the writer want to force the love triangle between DY-XF-MY
* Where is DY dad? Why when he return from America his dad not follow him back... Who pay for DY hospital bill after he back from America...? Did DY dad agreed to all the treatment he receive...? I know he is consider adult at that age, but still that kind of procedure I guess you still need family approval or at least family support.
* Relationship between XF & DY is so weird. They became best friend who support each other so fast. It's like they only know each other for 1 year & then XF does all she can do to help heal DY. Yeah I know DY is XF first friend or whatever. But it's just 1 year & you do that willingly. If that's me, nah i'll never did that for a friend that i just know 1 year.
* XF like have all the time in the world. She is a med student. She's supposed to be very busy with her study. But here she still manage to find the time for do part time job, which is also very busy, do research at her final year.... So great right....
* They got all the money in the world to spend for XF. After XF angry to MY parent who pay for her tuition, did she just accept the tuition from MY parent even though she mad at them...? This is never even been an issued. Like that what they supposed to do. After XF bakery got problem it's just like they don't care anymore. Not trying to fix it or at least try find a way to make it can be open again. All that money to open the store just gone like that. But when MY need money to start his business he have to go here & there...
* After all the hardship through med school XF just notice doctor it's not for her because she can handle a patient died in her operating table. Hello... What the hell r u thinking ..?? Don't you know doctor is a profession that need to face with life & dead...!!! Oh yeah i forgot they never even shoot when XF study med actually. Just first year in the classroom & when she wrote her essay in the final year. Maybe that's why XF never even realize that doctor is a profession that need to face with life & dead.

What plus is this drama:
+ DY turn out a very good friend. The writer never forced the love triangle between DY-XF-MY.
+ Like 'gotasdearcoiris' write in her/his review. At first XF is so submissive, but in the end she learn how to stand for herself

The worst plot ever to justify what the reason for everything QY did to XF. Can't the writer write better reason for the selfishness of QY except she must have everything that she want. Please.... QY just meet MY once, when QY just little kids & after adult QY know MY in one glance & then decided must have him.... Please.... And after that many years of obsession you can just let go in a blink of an eye after go berserk in one night.... Worst plot ever.....

Overall: This is actually quite good drama. I'm not bored watch this. But do I recommend you to watch it... Hm.... Not really. There still many good drama out there.

Good to watch if your bored

So i just wanna say this drama is not the uhm "best" but its also not the worst,
I didn't really mind the incest part that much cos I've watched "Go Ahead"
But i agree that the ML was quite possessive and abusive.
He always insulted her and caused her grades to drop and didn't bother apologizing.
And he made her cook like every episode.
There's a lot of plot holes but i just decide to ignore it sometimes cos i have nothing else to watch.
Meh i think its ok to watch when bored but DO NOT REPEAT THE ML'S ACTIONS TO SOMEONE YOU LIKE.
the other characters are quite nice especially the FL's bestie shes super nice and would love to have a bestie like that. Anyways i cant really tell you what to do or what not to do, im quite sad that they started their relationship at the end but i can't do anything about it.
Welp that's all i can tell you
Good luck on your journey.

First love story, starting from school up to adulthood.

The summary already tell most of plot, mostly for the first haft of the drama.

Overall i really enjoyed watching this drama, it was a sweet first love story, easy to watch, even though there were some things i did find annoying from both FL and ML, they both had their own flaws.

As start, you get a ML that is showed as cold and not caring, but inside he does care, since he liked her since young, but that does not excuse his actions that sometimes were not the best, and didn't really helped him in the process of getting her. As for the FL, she was sweet, and i did enjoyed her friendship with the seconds leads, but she was also immature and naive, and some of her actions really annoyed me (to be honest, some of the plot could have been shorted out if they were both more mature and just talked about it).

As for the second leads, there were a good add to the story. Even though Qi Yuan was annoying, without her it would be just a sweet and boring story. I enjoyed Liu Zi Hui character, she was fun to watch.

As for the Acting, it was ok to acceptable. I was annoying sometimes, specially the ML for most of the drama had the same expression, (but i don't really know if it was because of the actor or because they wanted the ML to be like that), but he got better as the drama ended, so i think he can do better in future projects.

Music: The songs were nice, sweet and fitted the story.

Rewatch Value, overall i enjoyed the story, probably will not watch again, but if i end up been boring and without anything new to watch, i would watch it again.

Overall it's a 7,5 for me.
