=> Both works are about King Jeongjo
=> Han Ji Min is in both but her character in Fatal Encounter is not as nice as her character in Yi San.

both tell the story of king Jeong Jo. TFE is action packed film focused on assassination attempts of King jj where Yi san is tell the life history of king jj including famous assassination attemps on his life.both are excellent and worth watching.
TFE has superb cinematography in a historical setting.

=> Both are retellings of the love story of King Jeongjo and his beloved concubine Royal Noble Consort Uibin Sung (her real name is Deok Im but she's called Song Yeon in Yi San).
=> The court lady is shown to have a special talent (painter in Yisan, storyteller and writer in Red Sleeve).
In my opinion, Yi San should be the top recommendation for Red Sleeve fans, come on people, they're both MBC dramas about the story of one of Joseon's best kings and his beloved concubine.

these shows are completely different shows but have little things in common... palace is about a woman who travels back in time... but the common ground is a maid who eventually marries a royal, and about the schemes of concubines/consorts who schemes and plots for the throne... palace my be more on the comical side at times...

Yi San is about Dong Yi's great-grandson. The old king in Yi San is the same character as Dong Yi's young son. The main romance plot is also quite similar. Both kings in the drama have a queen who can't give him a child. The king's main love interest is a humble ordinary young woman with a special talent in arts (Dong Yi plays haegeum while Song Yeon from Yi San loves to paint). (Something funny for me is that the actresses for the female leads, Han Hyo Joo and Han Ji Min, looks similar). The main female love interest also has a warrior brother like who has a one sided love for her. You could also notice the similar directing style of both dramas, both were directed by director Lee Byung Hoon (not the same person as actor Lee Byung Hun) who also directed Jewel in the Palace. They also have the same writers (Jewel in the Palace writer is different though, writer for Jewel in the Palace is the one who wrote Queen Seon Deok).

If you wish to watch a more interesting take on this certain timeline in Joseon history, better watch YiSan. Both dramas have something to do with the arts (painting) and the mystery of the death of Prince Sado.

They are both about a romance between the king, and a lowly peasant who later becomes one of his concubines. There is also hate towards the main lead girl due to her low social status, and if you have seen Dong Yi, Yi San is King Sukjon's (the king in Dong Yi) which is also the king in Jang Ok Jung, is his great-grandson.

If you enjoy watching Han Ji Min falling in love with a crown prince in Rooftop Prince, Yi San is also another story where we can see her fall in love with a crown prince.
There is a great genuine chemistry between the crown prince and Han Ji Min's character despite the fact that her romance with the crown prince seems impossible.
Be mindful that Rooftop Prince fans might not like the politics of Yisan or Yisan fans might not like the modern era in Rooftop prince, but both dramas are worth watching to see a blossoming romance between a crown prince and Han Ji Min's character

This is the "prequel" to Yi San, which focuses on the story about Yi San's father, Crown Prince Sado and his cruel and tragic fate.

Yi San is a 2007 drama about Sado's son. It covers about the same time period as the more recent Red Sleeve 2021 drama except that it has greater focus on politics. If you want to watch a drama which shows more focus on Sado's son's politics as a prince then as a king, Yi San 2007 drama is the show for you. Yi San 2007 also shows more on how Sado's son was acting as his father was dying in the beginning episodes.
For Yi San fans, you can watch in The Throne another portrayal of how Yi San's father died.

Its the same year (era). The King in this movie is Yi San. It's interesting to see other characters involves with the King during that time. Im not sure if these events are fictional tho
