Beyond Evil

괴물 ‧ Drama ‧ 2021
both are dark, character-driven thrillers focused on moral ambiguity, deep-seated police corruption, and a skeptical partnership between two detectives with traumatic pasts. In both shows, a grizzled veteran detective who was previously a murder suspect pairs up with an elite, younger detective from the city to solve a complex web of crimes.

The "Enemy Within" Dynamic: The core tension doesn't just come from catching a serial killer, but from the detectives not fully trusting each other. In Beyond Evil, a rookie is suspicious of his partner (an old suspect in a 20-year-old case). In Shadow Detective, an old detective is framed for murder by a blackmailer he must work with to clear his name.

Ties to the Past: Both stories rely heavily on old, unsolved cases to explain the present-day murders. The crimes force both the characters and the viewers to question who the real "monster" is.

Small-Town Corruption: Both shows are set in tight-knit, isolated communities (a rural substation in Beyond Evil, a gritty coastal city in Shadow Detective) where the police, local politicians, and business leaders are deeply corrupt.

No Romance: Both dramas strip away romance entirely to keep the focus strictly on the mystery, psychological trauma, and justice.

They have the same overall premise, such as-
1. One of the MCs being a suspected killer in a previous cold/unsolved case from a decade or two ago
2. One MC believing that the other is the killer, while struggling to prove it
3. Teaming up between the suspected killer detective and the one that suspects them
4. Old case resurfacing

Both are Crime Thrillers with the Main lead chasing everyone and anyone, to find the true murderer.

Both involve Revenge Seeking Characters and plots.

Both maintain a gripping Suspense, thereby making the viewer SUSPECT EVERY CHARACTER in the drama, haha

Doubt Everyone!
Trust No one!!

Similar atmosphere of a slow burn mystery rather than a fast paced thriller. There are suspicions and mind games at play in both. If you like one, you'll enjoy the other. Which one of the two a person will prefer, is upto individual taste.

Mystery, Thriller, PLOT! A must watch if you are a fan of mystery/thriller genre. The main leads chemistry is off the charts, and story fits well with the environment.

In both shows the leads are socially awkward outcasts. They also idolize their popular love interest.

One of the mains is a suspect in murder cases, the other one is investigating him. There are handcuffs, twisty crime plot, complicated conflicting relationship dynamics, teamwork phases, blossoming doomed romance.

Similarities:
-Both have dark themes (TBK being darker)
-Both have main leads who are not who they may first appear to be (though the two are very contrasting individuals once we see who they are)
-Both have dark themes with murder and cruelty (being vague as it's been a while since I watched Beyond Evil)
-Both have AMAZING cinematography that really bumps the show up from being an amazing show to being pure masterpieces in their own regards.
-Overall there is more focus on male characters with main leads being men
-There is little to no romance in either of the shows
-You can interpret 2 characters within each show as being very similar/different sides of the same coin to each other.

Crime shows that have a insane male lead who’s an older detective with a bad past. In both there’s also a younger main character with a huge sense of justice. The team/partnership aspect of both dramas is very well laid out in their stories as well.

Both has a plot of a SERIAL KILLER

(Though "Beyond evil" handles multiple murders and serial killer is a subplot whereas in the chaser, it's the main plot)

Both are very interesting n grippng to watch.

(The chaser has unacceptable levels of gore Violence, so Be aware of that)

Crime show. First episode started with someone’s first day of work and worked it’s way into getting them used to working & plotting schemes with the team. Atmosphere/tone of the show was similar in some ways. Both stories change their focus in the middle of the show. Involves the police working with prosecutors. Illegal methods of obtaining evidence/information is included in both as well.
