The Unbroken (2009)

Shizumanu Taiyo is based on a novel by Yamazaki Toyoko. Set in the 1960s, the story centers on Onchi Hajime, the chairman of the employees' union for a large national airline corporation. His reward for fighting for better working conditions for the staff is a series of postings abroad, to Pakistan, Iran, and finally Kenya, a destination to which the company does not even fly. Meanwhile, his fellow labor union partner, Gyoten Shiro, has long sold out to management and is climbing the ranks in the corporate office. Hajime feels betrayed by his co-worker, but stoically works in Kenya with nothing much else to do except watch the sun. After 10 years in exile, Hajime is ordered back to the head office in Japan. Things have been completely changed upon his return. His co-workers like Yagi Kazuo are bullied for their labor union actions, while sellouts like Gyoten Shiro are rapidly ascending the corporate ladder.
