When It’s So Much Better Than You Expected

“My Sassy Psychic” - a truly great lakorn with a concept that’s nothing new, but written and executed in a fresh way.

To begin, this lakorn is like a mix of “My Secret Bride”, “Love Forever After”, “I See Dead People”, “Let’s Fight Ghost” & “Superburoot Jorm Jon: Maturot Lohgan”. It has a bit of mystical/supernatural elements because of the amulet thingy, and horror because of the ghosts.

As always, when I do drama reviews I’ll include the Pros & Cons/Likes & Dislikes in my own views.

WARNING AHEAD: It’s gonna be long.

LIKES:
1. PLOT: Oh the storylines is VERY good overall. There’s never a boring moment even when it’s not the main characters’ scenes.

And you know when you’ve already watched too much lakorn that you’ve become an expert in “clicking the skip button”? Yeah, I’m one of those people. There are quite a number of lakorns that make me click the skip button and skipping through unnecessary plot, sometimes I end up skipping a big part of the story, but it’s unnecessary, so why waste time, right?

But that’s not the case with this one. Without expecting anything high, only started with my love towards the ML actor, Punjan, and my liking for romcom genre, I ended up enjoying this drama very much, from episode 1 to episode 13.

The plot development is surprisingly fast. In episode 2, we already see the main couple agreeing to work together. It’s so nice to see that.

The writing is also smooth and almost flawless, unlike typical Thai lakorns. It made me look forward to watching more dramas from the same scriptwriter.

2. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: This is one of the most important aspects for me when I watch a drama. And luckily it passed the standard. You may not like the ML at first (not me tho, because it’s Punjan LOL) as he started off as a hotheaded guy, easy to get angry and pick a fight, but here’s what I LOVE the most about it.

It’s shown every time after discussing/resolving a misunderstanding that leads him to being a hothead, he’s kinda quick to be cool and calm down. Now this is considered a very great trait that a Thai lakorn could have.

Same with other characters, even the side characters (like Phai). I really like that even side characters have their own roles here. Not a waste of acting talent.

3. ROMANCE: Of course, the one that I’d been looking forward since the beginning because it’s “romcom”, after all. NGL, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the romance between our main couple. No unnecessary hate towards each other, started as a cute crush then it develops quite fast, I’d say. That’s one more surprise for me. And the romance is not that heavy romance, it’s rather cute, sweet & satisfying.

4. ACTING: I’ve always known Punjan’s great potential and he did not disappoint in this lakorn. That’s one of the reasons I decided to watch this drama.

On the other hand, I never knew Preem tho. At first, she kinda reminds me of the famous Filipino actor, Daniel Padilla. IDK why, maybe the nose and the lips? 😂 But her acting is also great. It didn’t feel awkward or anything.

As for other characters, I think all of them did a great job. My most favourite is the cute Palm Supachai (Sak, the ML’s bestie). He’s always entertaining in every lakorn he’s in, even in a heavy lakorn like “Game of Outlaws”. He brightens our mood with his funny & cute character.

5. CHEMISTRY: Oh God, who would’ve thought that Punjan & Preem would look so good together? Their chemistry is unexpectedly off the chart, y’all. I have nothing bad to say. I just hope we’ll see them as the main couple in another drama in the future.

There’s nothing bad to say about the chemistry between every cast member. I love them all!

6. EMOTIONAL DAMAGE: Although this lakorn is lighthearted, it still has its own emotional phase. The family & friendship aspects caught my heart. Tho I laughed a lot because of the comedy, I also cried a lot towards the end.

7. COMEDY: At times, when watching this drama, I thought it wasn’t like Thai lakorn, but aside from the amulet thingy, the comedy is what reminds me that it is indeed a Thai lakorn, as we know Thailand is the best when it comes to comedy.

I love the comedic duo, Phai & Mee, the FL’s dad, the ML’s bestie Sak, the saloon owner Thor. They made this drama funnier and brighter.

1. OST: The theme songs are nice for your ears. My most favourite is “I’ll Be There”. I find myself unconsciously hum the song and it keeps playing in my mind and I like it. Gonna be in my favourite lakorn OST list!

Now it’s time for-

DISLIKES:

1. ROMANCE: I know I said I love the romance but it’s kinda short for me. I wish they could give us at least one more episode that focuses on the romance. :(

2. SLS: It might be bad if you have 2nd lead syndrome (SLS) for Doctor Pran. I’m lucky enough that I was always rooting for the ML since episode 1. But what’s there not to like about Doctor Pran? He’s hot, cool & calm, kind, smart, rich, well y’know, he’s the typical dream guy most ladies would swoon over.

1. SHORT: I’m not sure if this is even a bad thing about this drama but 13 EPISODES IS NOT ENOUGH FOR ME. *cries* But only 13 eps might be a good thing as no unnecessary draggy plot like typical lakorns.

CONCLUSION: Honestly speaking, My Sassy Psychic is a gem. It’s one of the hidden gems that we rarely find when it comes to Thai lakorn. It deserves more recognition & hype! :’)

unexpectedly great !

ngl i had doubts with this drama and also the pairings but let me tell you, THIS DRAMA DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!

꒰ story/plot ꒱ 8.5 !
this was a lighthearted drama with a slight tone of dark mysterious vibes. it did got a lot darker at the end though but happy ending !! usually i’m not very into supernatural storyline but this one was very good. got me super invested with the story. comedy, romance, mystery ! this drama has it all ! honestly i wished it has a couple more of episodes though, maybe like 15, because i really want to see more of the happy romance but even with 13 episodes, nothing feels rushed. good execution !!

also that one episode, i think it was episode 12, the scene where they were both sitting at the poolside but the ml didn’t have a reflection because he was a spirit … WOW ! super detailed, that was a very nice touch !!

꒰ acting/cast ꒱ 10 !
as mentioned before at the top, i really did not expect this pair to have such great chemistry but they really didn’t come to play. super unexpected chemistry but works wonder ! i really like them together, hope to see them together in another drama in the future.

• punjan as ran: punjan, to me, has always been one of the most underrated actor and he’s one of my fav. something about his eyes that shows you all the emotions. his acting has always been great and he has so much potential. i’m really happy to finally see him play a main role in a prime time drama. ch3 really sleeps on this man fr. pj really did a great job executing this character.

• preem as sorn: preem did really good in this drama. i really like her acting in this drama. i’ve heard some criticism about her acting before but i think she has really improved since.

→ their chemistry really clicked! again, unexpected but did not disappoint!

for other actors/actresses, they really did a good job portraying their roles/characters. everyone did their part justice!!

꒰ music/ost ꒱ 8 !
“i’ll be there” was super good !! i really like that song !! the other songs were fun and very lighthearted and funny !

something i would go back and watch when i want to take my mind off stressful things ! i don’t really rewatch dramas but if i ever want to watch something lighthearted i would go back and watch this one.

It's really worth?

First I'd like to say that I am not good writing reviews (or in English grammar) but I'll try it so let's go. (sorry, because it's kind of big)

I was really excited about this lakorn since I watch Chuamong Tong Mon and started to follow Preem, she seemed really happy with this work and I also like mystery and supernatural stuffs, but I confess that I was anxious about it and I had afraid that somehow the story goes into a boring and maybe toxic way and their chemistry doesn't fit, but it didn't disappoint me.

Preem and Punjan show a chemistry who grows episode by episode, their development was good, even if we don't have a lot of romance, they showed a perfect chemistry that at least for me, it's something rare to find.
People said about Saran being a hothead, wich is true and something he get me on my nerves, but I really love him and the way he was, in somepoint he was right to not trust in the doctor.

The mystery envolved is also on point, all the Moo and Somboom mystery catch my attention and was really fun to watch.

Characters like Sak made everything even funnier and light and he is for sure one of the best character and by far my favorite.

What can I said about Dao and Pai? Both of them, of course, wasn't my favorites so far, BUT gosh... The final scenes... I really cried (I am trying to not give spoilers here)

The OST fits so well, the opening song and I'll be there was really good and made the scenes even more comfortable and worth to watch.

Punjan is one of my favorite actors and I was really happy when I saw that he get a ML now and I hope that he continues like that and also that he can reunite with Preem again, wich also one of my favorites. She has good expressions, but I have to say, I didn't like her acting in Chuamong Tong Mon and Pom Arthun in some scenes, but she was really good as Sornklin, a sassy character like Son fits really well on her.

Anyway, Chemistry, Romance, Mystery, Supernatural, Comedy and Action was on point there, it's really worth the wait and worth to watch, but if I have to say something that I didn't like, I would say that 13 episodes wasn't enough, I really want to see more of Saran and Sornklin together even if I like the way their romance development, I wanted more because for me wasn't enough and the was it ends could open a space to a second season maybe? (OK I dreamed really high right now) Even with me thinking it could have more, I am not disappointed at all and I'll rewatch this that's for sure.

Highly Recommend

I was truly impressed with the drama, I was not bored at all. It has comedy, it has thrill, it has mystic. I thought they were gonna copy The Master's Sun as they did reference that drama in the earlier episodes, but not really. It has few similarities tho. If you like fast faced romance plot, then this one is for you.

Watched this for Punjan because he's hotter than the sun. I like all of the characters. There were some characters that I thought had no purpose, but they actually do.

However, the final episode seems like the writers has given up and just wanted to get it done with so logic went out the window lol

Un lakorn inhabituel avec un mix de surnaturel, policier, romance, et d'humour

Si vous vous lancez dans cette série, vous serez surpris (accroché ?) dès le 1er épisode, par l'équilibre et le mélange des genres.

Vous aurez droit à :
- des policiers luttant contre les gangs et trafiquants
- du surnaturel : médium, fantômes, démons, magie, recherches d'objets sacrés, esprits et dieux,...
- une jolie romance (très cute) entre FL médium et ML policier
- une touche d'humour : les personnages récurrents dans les lakorns, qui surjouent beaucoup, ici les compères de la médium.

Les acteurs sont très bons. Le CL a une excellente alchimie, une relation constante et de confiance (comme je les aime).
L'histoire est globalement bien écrite, mais certains passages de la série sont un peu confus, on a du mal à voir où ça mène.
La réalisation est dynamique, le cadrage soigné et les images de qualité. Rien à redire à ce sujet.
Les OST sont bien adaptées, sans être particulièrement mémorables (elles ne feront pas partie de ma playlist :)

Je ne pense pas revoir ce drama à nouveau, mais j'ai passé un bon moment devant cette série qui maintient l'attention du spectateur jusqu'au bout.

My Sassy Psychic” - lakorn yang benar-benar hebat dengan konsep yang bukan hal baru, tetapi ditulis dan dieksekusi dengan cara yang fresh, dan anti-mainstream dengan campuran romance, mystery, supranatural, comedy, komedi, sensation, dan action. Kalo memulai lakorn ini, kalian akan ketagihan dari episode pertama dengan keseimbangan dan campuran genrenya.

Di awal, lakorn ini kayak campuran "My Secret Bride", "Love Forever After", "I See Dead People", "Let's Fight Ghost" & "Superburoot Jorm Jon: Maturot Lohgan". Ada sedikit unsur mistik/gaib karena jimatnya dan horor karena hantunya. Keyakinan Thailand tentang jimat dan pentingnya jimat digambarkan dengan baik. Biasanya aku ga terlalu suka plot supranatural, tapi lakorn ini imo sangat bagus, membuatku sangat tertarik dengan ceritanya karena penuh petualangan. Ada faktor fantasi menarik yang membuat lakorn ini luar biasa dan ga ngebosenin sama sekali. Sangat layak untuk ditunggu dan ditonton, tapi kalo aku harus mengatakan sesuatu yang ga aku sukai, aku akan mengatakan bahwa 13 episode adalah 'TIDAK CUKUP'. Sejujurnya aku berharap lakorn ini punya beberapa episode lagi, mungkin 15 eps, karena aku benar-benar pingin liat lebih banyak romansa yang bahagia antara Saran-Sonklin, but bahkan dengan 13 eps aja lakorn ini ga terasa terburu-buru. Eksekusinya bagus!!

Ini tontonan super ringan dan udah bisa dipastikan kalo aku bakalan rewatch ini suatu saat. But meskipun lakorn ini ringan, tetap ada fase emosionalnya sendiri. Aspek keluarga dan persahabatan imo menarik. Aku banyak tertawa karena komedi, aku juga hampir menangis menjelang akhir.

PLOT: secara keseluruhan SANGAT bagus.  Ga pernah ada momen yang membosankan meski itu bukan adegan karakter utama. Ga ada ekspektasi tinggi untuk lakorn ini, hanya berawal dari kecintaanku sama male lead role dan kesukaanku pada genre romcom, finally aku bisa sangat menikmati lakorn ini, from first until last episode. Perkembangan plotnya sangat cepat. Di eps. 2 kita udah melihat pasangan utama setuju untuk bekerja sama. Misteri yang terlibat juga tepat. Misteri Moo, Somboon, dan Pran juga menarik perhatian dan sangat menyenangkan untuk ditonton, membuat plot semakin menarik. Keliatan scriptnya smooth dan hampir tanpa cela, ga seperti lakorn khas Thailand pada umumnya. Aku berharap bisa nonton banyak lakorn lain dari penulis naskah yang sama. Yang disayangkan dari lakorn ini cuma 1: Dikit banget episodenya wkwkwk Aku ga yakin apakah ini hal yang buruk untuk lakorn ini, tapi bagiku 13 EPISODE itu TIDAK CUKUP. *sad* Nah mungkin menurut penulis, hanya dengan 13 episode udah bagus, bcs ga ada plot seret yang ga perlu seperti lakorn pada umumnya.

Awalnya aku sempat ragu sama lakorn ini, apakah pairing Preem-Punjan bakal berchemistry??? But, lakorn ini beneran GA MENGECEWAKAN. Preem-Punjan sukses mengekspresikan chemistry dengan sangat apik. Perkembangan mereka bagus, bcs chemistry yang mereka tunjukkan tumbuh episode demi episode. Meskipun romansanya ga terlalu banyak, tapi mereka menunjukkan chemistry sempurna yang setidaknya bagiku itu sesuatu yang jarang ditemukan. Chemistry mereka benar-benar cocok dan sangat luar biasa: konstan dan saling percaya. Mereka pasangan yang sangat lucu. Ada begitu banyak adegan yang membuatku tertawa terbahak-bahak. Tapi untuk ending, benar-benar membuatku sedih dan bisa-bisa menguras air mata. Aku beneran ga menyangka kalo Preem-Punjan bakal punya chemistry yang hebat. Chemisty yang aku tangkap justru chemistry natural yang sangat tidak terduga, tapi bekerja dengan sangat baik dan tidak mengecewakan. Aku sangat suka mereka bersama, berharap bisa liat mereka barengan lagi di lakorn yang akan datang.

Punjan as Saran: Imo, dia selalu menjadi salah satu aktor yang paling diremehkan, tapi dia salah satu favoritku. Matanya menunjukkan semua emosi. Aktingnya selalu bagus dan memiliki begitu banyak potensi. Aku sangat senang bcs akhirnya bisa melihatnya memainkan peran utama dalam lakorn prime time. Dia benar-benar melakukan pekerjaan yang bagus dalam mengeksekusi karakter Saran. Sebenarnya aku nonton ini karena penasaran sama acting range-nya Punjan kalo jadi male lead role. Aku tahu Punjan punya potensi besar dan dia ga mengecewakan di lakorn ini.

Preem as Sonklin: Dia benar-benar bagus di lakorn ini. Aku sangat suka aktingnya. Dia sangat cocok memerankan Sonklin. Ekspresinya benar-benar bagus. Dari lakorn-lakorn sebelumnya, aktingnya imo meningkat dan semakin bagus. Ga terasa canggung atau apapun.

Untuk karakter lain, I think semuanya melakukan pekerjaan dengan baik dalam menggambarkan peran/karakter mereka. Favoritku adalah Palm Supachai sebagai Sak. Dia selalu menghibur di setiap lakorn yang dia ikuti dan membuat semuanya menjadi lebih ringan, bahkan di lakorn berat seperti “Game of Outlaws” dia bisa mencerahkan suasana hati kita dengan karakternya yang lucu dan imut.

SLS: Mungkin buruk jika kalian memiliki Second Lead Syndrome (SLS) untuk dr. Pran. Aku cukup beruntung bahwa aku selalu mendukung ML sejak episode 1. Tapi apa yang tidak disukai dari dr. Pran? Dia sexy (wkwkwk), keren & tenang, baik hati, pintar, kaya. You know...dia tipikal pria idaman yg bisa bikin kebanyakan wanita pingsan.

PENGEMBANGAN KARAKTER: Ini adalah salah satu aspek terpenting imo saat kita nonton drama dan untungnya sudah melewati standar. Mungkin kalian ga menyukai ML pada awalnya, bcs dia mulai sebagai pria yg mudah marah dan berkelahi, tapi inilah yang paling aku sukai tentangnya. Terlihat setiap kali setelah berdiskusi/menyelesaikan kesalahpahaman yang membuatnya menjadi pemarah, dia agak cepat menjadi cool dan tenang. Sama dengan karakter lain, bahkan karakter sampingan (seperti Phai). Aku sangat suka dgn karakter sampingan yg memiliki peran mereka sendiri di sini. Ga menyia-nyiakan bakat akting.

Kadang-kadang, pas nonton ini, aku pikir ini ga seperti lakorn Thailand, tetapi selain dari jimatnya, komedilah yang mengingatkanku bahwa ini memang lakorn Thailand. Seperti yang kita tau, Thailand adalah yang terbaik dalam hal komedi. Interaksi Sonklin dengan roh ayahnya adalah pemandangan yang luar biasa lucu. Aku suka duo komedian: Phai & Mee dan Ce Thor. Mereka membuat drama ini jadi lebih lucu dan cerah.

ROMANCE: Tentu saja, ini yang aku nantikan sejak awal karena ini adalah "romcom". I LOVE LOVE LOVE romance antara Son-Saran. Ga ada kebencian yang ga perlu antara satu sama lain. Romansanya bukanlah romansa yang berat, melainkan lucu, manis, dan memuaskan. Memang aku menyukai romansanya, tapi bagiku itu terlalu pendek. Dimulai dari naksir manis kemudian berkembang cukup cepat imo. Aku berharap mereka bisa ngasih setidaknya satu episode lagi yang berfokus pada romansa wkwkwk (mode ngarep)

OST-nya sangat cocok. Theme songnya enak di dengar. Yang paling favorit adalah "I'll Be There", bcs membuat adegannya semakin nyaman dan layak untuk ditonton. Tanpa disengaja, ga sadar aku tuh sering menyenandungkan lagu itu. Ini masuk list OST lakorn favoritku.

Tampilannya dinamis, framing rapi dan gambar yg berkualitas. Detail lakorn ini juga bagus. Seperti di eps. 12, yaitu scene Son-Saran sama-sama duduk di poolside. Saran ga ada pantulannya di kolam karena dia arwah. WOW!!! Great job banget sih sampe sedetail itu. Benar-benar touching yang sangat bagus.
Honestly, My Sassy Psychic layak mendapatkan lebih banyak pengakuan dan hype. Ini adalah salah satu permata tersembunyi yang jarang kita temukan saat datang ke lakorn Thailand. Yang jelas, lakorn ini adalah sesuatu yang akan aku tonton lagi saat ingin mengalihkan pikiran dari hal-hal yang membuat stres.
