Don't look down on househusbands!

What can I say, this show was pure comedy with Tamaki Hiroshi totally hamming it up on-screen as a yakuza househusband dead-set on establishing a well-run home for his little family. His approach to everything is totally gangster and it's hilarious to see how everyone reacts to his antics as he goes about his business. His facial expressions are just gold!

Side characters here are totally comic caricatures with their own quirky theme songs and cartoon personalities, and if you're expecting anything meaningful from either a plot or story or even character development perspective, forget it! Each episode is gag-driven with over-the-top hijinks and in-jokes and parodies meant to bring on the laughs.

This whole drama is like an amusement park - each episode is an individual attraction on its own - so you can either savour the whole show as a day-tripper bingeing on all the rides, or you can take your time and enjoy an episode or two here and there as a mood-lifter or distraction.

"Gokushufudo" is the slice of life drama I never knew I wanted, but I'm so happy to have watched! It is such a quirky, comedic blend of the yakuza and family genres through a slice of life storytelling style. There's no real point to the drama other than to follow Tatsu through his everyday life as a former yakuza, now househusband, and that's what makes it so easy and fun. The drama is quite quirky - from its clever (and yet simple!) writing to its filming style with heavy-handed manga-style shots, angles, and special effects. I wholeheartedly enjoyed the over-the-top acting from all the actors - Tamaki Hiroshi and Shison Jun in particular. Tamaki absolutely embodies Tatsu! It took me a little bit to get used to the quirkiness of the drama (the filming style and the plot pacing in particular), but once I better understood its style and vibe, I couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous everything was, and how much heart everything that Tatsu did had. I haven't read the manga, so purely from the standpoint of having watched the drama, I would recommend this to anyone looking for some light-hearted fun and laughter.

Don't you dare lookdown or even underestimate Househusbands + Deserved more appreciation and views.

I have decided to write this review as I feel like this drama deserves more attention and appreciation.

This is such a feel-good & comical drama I never expected to enjoy. I started having doubts with its 1st episode but everything has gotten better and better all throughout as the story progresses.

I have always appreciate fatherly love on dramas and this is one of those that made me felt warm and comforted watching it.

It may seem corny and weird at first but it was indeed enjoyable and worth all the time I spent watching this piece.

Story - 9.5, Actually the story itself has nothing special in it and it's not even following any kind of direction. It's more of a day to day experience of a father striving to be a better househusband and each episode it offers something fun, new and comical.

Acting/Cast - 9.5, They all performed great. I mean there are a lot of lines which i felt like would be hard to be delivered (since it's so awkward) but they did just that and that made this drama so special. I even love the silent laughs from the Lady Boss whenever it felt like she over-acted her gestures. HAHAHA

Music - 9, The BGMs are decent and are on point. I even have the main song downloaded on my spotify. Da-Ice - Citrus. You all should give it a try.

Rewatch Value - 8, It is indeed good. But i probably wouldn't watch it anytime sooner since my drama list is piling up but it worths all the time. No doubt. ?

Overall - 9, Just base on my review I'm sure I was able to rely my thoughts about how good and fun this drama is. A must watch!!

I’m a huge Gokushufudo fan especially the manga. So when I found out there was a live action I watched it right away and it did not disappoint! All of the actors played true to the characters in the manga, however the acting was slightly cheesy (but the cheesiness of it was very fitting for this type of drama) Even the characters that aren’t in the manga like Tatsu’s daughter and some of the yakuza members feel very right and we’re some of my favorite characters by the time I finished watching. Overall once I was done I was left with an empty whole of wanting more. Would recommend!!!

Manga Live Action Done Right!

This live action make really holds the manga original very, very close! The similarity in the episodes is uncanny and produced so well, it was like watching the manga float right off the pages, which can be a difficult thing considering this is an extremely original and unique type of story.

Granted, there are some cliche Japanese Drama/Movie tropes within the show, but they really take on lives of their own. They don't come across as too cheesy or ridiculous, each moment has just the right amount of balance for the serious, hilarious, and many more! I've never laughed out loud so much, so loud, and so often within a show as I have with this show; granted, not every episode and not the entire episode(s), either. This is one of the funniest yet sincere, honest, and most beautiful shows I have watched in a long time.

The music was really wonderful, the voices more so than the melody I thought really created a nice atmosphere for the show and built up the curiosity to find out what happens next. There were a couple of episodes where I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation! Hiroshi Tamaki and Kawaguchi Haruna really blended into their roles so well that I completely forgot who they were as an actor and actress and fell totally in love with their characters; its almost as if all the actors and actresses within this show came to life from the original story, they all fit their roles and carried them out with the highest pride, dedication, respect, and, of course, enjoyment! It was nice to see some actors/actresses that are new to me and that I will now follow their paths because I liked them in this story so much, and actors/actresses that I know and already follow in different roles that I'm used to seeing them in; especially for Takito Kenichi. I would really like to know how they did some of these scenes without dying of laughter.

I'm so glad this story continues in so many ways (manga of course, a sequel, a spinoff, the anime, a Netflix adaptation, and a movie) because the world needs to see more of these wonderful people and the story of the yakuza house husband needs to continue. This show is a hilarious yet serious and sincere, honest and genuine, raw true story of love, family, relationships, and life. I've enjoyed it very much and hope more people will, too!

perfect perfect casting for the househusband, acting was topnotch! I was beginning to read the manga but stopped when I saw that they were releasing a drama, I watch the first episode and its stick to close to the source material. the show is very funny, the 'puns' I dont get it sometimes, but its enjoyable to watch. some episodes seems to be dragging, but a couple of episodes (5, last episode) where the drama really shines. After finishing the series and the SP, I'm looking forward to watch the movie, and if I could carve out some time, I would probably restart reading the manga. all in all fun and enjoyable show !
