High and low is a 1963 film directed by Akira Kurosawa, starring Toshiro Mifune, Tatsuya Nakadai and Kyōko Kagawa. It was loosely based on King's Ransom, an 87th Precinct police procedural by Ed McBain.(wikipedia) "High and Low" focuses on Kingo Gondo (Toshiro Mifune), a powerhouse executive in the Japanese shoe industry. In the midst of an attempt to take over his company, a proposition that throws him in hock down to his own furniture, he's hit by a huge ransom demand, with a twist -- the kidnaper (Tsutomu Yamazaki) takes, not his own son, but his chauffeur's. Cast & Credits
ACTING: Toshirô Mifune delivers great acting as always , especially for a modern citizen since he's always playing a samurai in his other films, and a good heart guy. Tatsuya Nakadai as a good, is great! He places such a good smart cop who is willing to help Toshiro at all means, and talking to his team about the best ways to catch the criminal.
Music: Music is mystery and suspenseful, classic and keeping the film good like other Akira films, with it's shocking and sad scenes.
Re watch value: I've only seen this film two times, maybe more in the future, it's pretty long.
OVERALL: Overall, This is the best Japanese film ever made, and nothing can come close to beat it, well Seven Smauari is only a few inches away but this masterpiece direction, screenplay, and story is so amazing, it just keeps getting good and good as you progressed through the film, everyone should watch this movie, you will not regret it!
