Family dramas are a touchy subject especially the long ones such as “Wonderful Mama”.

I don’t watch family dramas because they’re not my cup of tea but this year I came to watch two family dramas at the same time; this one and ‘I Summon You Gold!’ because of a long story that I won’t trouble your ears (or more specifically your eyes) with.

So what is this about? It’s one of those lengthy Kdramas produced in a non-stop way every year. It has all the elements that a family drama should have such as familial struggles, birth secrets and old respectable figures. There are also light romantic stories that owned about half the drama.

If I had to state the facts, I would say that this drama’s screenwriters weren’t good enough to make the drama interesting until the very last end. It’s a given that Korean family dramas drag and contain many filler episodes but despite that fact, the drama was deliciously entertaining until the 39 or the 40th episode when the writers tried to get smart by adding some twists to the storyline, but guess what? It was an epic failure because… hello!! Family dramas don’t need stupid twists to be good; it needs a complete control of the run time by using the family theme. Furthermore, the screenwriters conducted a mess by cutting off characters without a previous notice or a proper explanation. They also threw meaningless hints and rushed things out at the end; okay, I won’t make them bear all the blame for the last part since it’s not their fault that the drama was cut short to 48 episodes instead of 50 but still, they could’ve made a proper ending considering the fact that this is a long drama.

The cast was reasonably fitting and well chosen. There were some really good actors in here but I can’t say the same about characters since some of them felt all over the place at times. However, the characters’ development was remarkably magnificent.

Now, if I have to state my subject point of view, I would say that this drama was enjoyable overall even with its shortcomings. And that’s coming from a person who doesn’t (as never) watch long family dramas.

In conclusion, I won’t advice anyone to watch this or not because that’s up to you to decide. Just keep in mind that this is a long family drama with notable screenwriting issues that needs a strong commitment and a long breath to finish, but it also has a nice set of cast and it can be somewhat pleasant to watch.

*splash splash splash*

You can guess what happens numerous times in this dramas, angry ahjummas fighting with angry ahjummas.

I thought it was a pretty decent drama (i have seen tons of family dramas, ones that are even longer than this so for me this wasn't new... if you don't believe me check my list ^^).

So as usual this drama has also hatred and revenge and focuses a lot on it, so there are many times when the story is beating around the bush. *bingeul bingeul*
The love lines in the story were pretty cute so that gives some extra points to watch it.
The script writers could have easily given extra time towards the ending because the ending felt way too rushed. I would have preferred if there was more at the end rather than in the beginning.
Also if you watch this drama be prepared that everyone is connected one way or another, the amount of coincidences in this drama is quite fascinating as well!
Also there is many character developments so numerous characters will have different personalities by the end.

I really liked the cast, I definitely decided to watch it as Jung Yoo Mi and Ahn Nae Sang was in it. I didn't really like Jung Gyu Woon before watching this but my opinion completely changed of him.
I would like to award yoo in young's character with a honorable mention because her character really is the one that stands out at one point due to her realistic thoughts (of course at the beginning she isn't like that, she has quite a character development).

Overall i would say this drama is one of the bearable family dramas because it does have a good plot and the casts is also good, you don't really have that much annoying characters that other family dramas do and the end is cute. You have to bear with the first few episodes but then it gets better.

Bad!

Oh god where do I begin!!!
The production is embarrassing with no consistent picture quality. Bad sound design with muffled dialogue sometimes, peaking audio to an irritating level and bad music/OST insertion.

Wish the problems stayed with the production quality only but things get a lot worse!!
The premise is misleading, big time! The few first episodes (and MDL synopsis) give you the impression that it is about a mother diagnosed with Alzheimer and want to teach her spoiled kids life lessons before the inevitable but what we got none of that. It's mostly about an old conflict, a missing child and some business related things (none of which about loan sharks).

If you are expecting to see siblings relationships with each other or with their mother or spoiled kids growing up, you get none of that. The kids adapt to their new life within 3 episodes without much struggle or whatsoever. Some characters disappear without any notice like the mother's secretary which we had seen a lot of him earlier.

Park Bo Gum shouldn't be part of the main cast, we only get 1 short scene of him every 3 episodes or so.

Alzheimer is a very very convenient plot device for a lazy writing here, 15 episodes can pass without any mention of it. Might as well just remove it.

The drama is full of extreme cliches and illogical moments that can only be seen in jaded makjangs, so be prepared. When they pulled up the DNA bullshit that was the purest form of manufactured shit I've ever seen!! Some genuinely frustrating moments that has no right to be here. In short, this is amongst the worst makjangs out there.

Acting was fine.
