A decent adaptation of "The Good Doctor"

Firstly, this is an adaptation of the KRDrama, The Good Doctor, where the main character is an autistic savant and not suffering from Asperger's.

At only 16 episodes, this is a relatively short drama and a rather different medical drama, where it's about the main character struggles with autism and his insecurities.

While the description on MDL states that it's Asperger's syndrome, this is not true and Asperger's is not mentioned anywhere in the drama at all. There is also another review criticizing the drama solely because Asperger's syndrome is not portrayed well in the drama, which again, is based on incorrect information.

In all the adaptions of the Good Doctor and The US Drama, the main character has autism, and never Asperger, and it should be the same for this adaptation as well. As the description is translated by another MDL user, it should be a mistranslation as Asperger's is on the spectrum of Autism (probably machine translated).

That said, this drama does has it's difference from the other counterparts. Ignoring the obvious medical cases, plot and characters, one main difference this drama has, is that most, if not all of the characters in the show are very, very encouraging and supportive of the MC compared to it's other iterations where the MC has to constantly prove himself, which makes this a very heartwarming drama.

Finally, the other reviewer solely criticizing the show for it's bad portrayal of Asperger's and gave it a very harsh score which I think is unfair, as again, it's never mentioned that the MC actually has Asperger's in the show and it should be a mistranslation on MDL's description as Asperger's and Autism are both on on the Autism Spectrum and very similar.

A Masterpiece

I didn’t think I’d be calling this a 'masterpiece' by the end of the series. I use that word veryy carefully, but this series truly deserves it. Every episode was so meaningful and heart-touching.

Their friendships, team spirit, diverse personalities, realistic struggles, moments of sadness, and painful farewells… everything was perfect. I cried during most episodes and even when I didn’t, my heart still ached, not just because of the deaths, but because of how every scene, even the smallest, touched my heart. I felt completely connected to these characters. I loved the plot, the acting, the directing and everything!

Thanks to WanYi, I got to watch this masterpiece. <3

Bad portrayed of Asperger behavior. The director did a lousy job in this drama. Grrr......

Fantastic Doctor is a medical drama focused on an Asperger's genius doctor. It is based on a Kdrama and American drama called "The Good Doctor," with Zhang Wan Yi and Jiang Pei Yao.

I am disappointed in this drama because the director, Lu Chuan, did not do justice to it. Zhang Wan Yi is a good actor, but the way he portrayed the Asperger's doctor was wrong in so many ways.

Asperger's has social anxiety and does not like affection. Still, in this drama, too many people hug him, and he does not react to it. Secondly, he came across as stupid with his facial demeanor instead of someone who was a genius.

The director and Zhang Wan Yi need to watch "The Good Doctor" and see how the actor portrayed the character or watch "Extraordinary Attorney Woo." to see how these two actors portray Asperger's.

The drama's title is "Fantastic Doctors," which is plural of multiple doctors and does not really focus on the genius doctor.

It is very frustrating to watch this drama, and the way Zhang Wan Yi portrayed this character was so bad. I don't think it is the actor's fault. I blame the director for doing a lousy job.

I gave it a 6.0 rating because the drama did not do justice to the Asperger community. I have a nephew who is Asperger, and he does not behave like what was portrayed in the drama.

Fantastic Acting

Now I just wanna say that I haven't really watched a lot of medical dramas because I know I'm not gonna be able to get into it, nor does it interest me whatsoever. But this one? It made me appreciate the genre and what it can offer me as a whole. I get it now, I get why the medical genre is popular.

I know this is a Chinese take on the Korean original, but mind you, I haven't watched the original as well, so this is gonna be a fresh take on someone's lens who has no knowledge at all.

Watching this made me remember why i wanna retire early in life, because ever since i discovered cdramas, i've never looked back. It's very hard for me to watch kdramas or jdramas now because they are so compact due to declining attention span because of shorts/tiktoks. Now there can be exceptions from time to time, I'm not generalizing, but i'm just saying, cdramas know how to properly fluff a story without making it draggy. Though yes, since this is an adaptation from the korean version, it's following almost the same number of episodes, even shorter at that, unlike your standard cdrama 30-40 episode, but they managed to capture my love and appreciation without fluff.

As i've said, i haven't watched a lot of medical dramas, nor am I a medical student. So i'm probably just gonna be brushing off the medical side of it. Though i'm sure you can still appreciate this because the acting is so good. Every. single. actor/actress. here they are all good at acting down to the extras, there's no flaw in the acting. I actually came into this purely because of Jiang Pei Yao, but i stayed because of the acting, and for the plot i guess haha.

The story in the beginning can be annoying or i guess you could say the MC, but as it progresses, you feel that he's slowly becoming even more humanlike. The dynamic between the characters is very smooth. The chemistry is impeccable. By the way, i love how they handled Chen Hui and Yuan Ye's romance, its very open-ended, because i was thinking if this was the korean version, I'm pretty sure there will be romance in it, but in here there's almost little to no romance at all, not until the end, and again it's very open for interpretation, i love that.

Overall, Fantastic Drama, if you're someone like me, watch it blind, don't look at anything else, and when you're done, make your judgement.
