HONEST CRITIQUE

Note: This critique comes from a novel and manhwa reader. Biased? No. This is an ADAPTATION of Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. Which means that the theme, plot, and the dynamic essence should be similar if not the same.

1) JUSTICE TO THE CHARACTERS
Not only did the movie failed with the actors (no hate to the actors as they're only doing their job), but I blame the director for choosing them. First of all, height differences. It's not a big of a deal, I can agree—but to not even managed to follow such a basic detail for the story can already show how incompetent they are. Second of all, looks. Are the actors handsome/pretty? Yes. But do they fit the role they're acting to? No. Lee Giyoung is literally not that young. If you disagree with me, at least read the manhwa and compare it if he's supposed to be that young. Aside from Gilyoung is Lee Jihye. I know that some KPOP fans might get offender but I don't really care because it's not your favorite story that's getting adapted to such incompetency. Her looks is literally mature for Jihye. In the beginning of the story, we know that Jihye was still a student. Do you think it fits? Hell no.

2) JUSTICE TO THE STORY
When you're doing an adaptation, note that you're adapting the entirety. Did they managed to do it? Very not so. First of all are the guns, the story literally mentioned that firearms don't work on the monsters. "What if it's a weapon made using magical abilities?" Bullshit. Did the manhwa or even the novel mentioned that there's a magical gun at the beginning? No. If the director can't even follow the plotline of the story, what can we even expect from them? It's literally messy if you can't follow the plot. Here are the keys point that make it NOT ORV:

• Bully, since when did Kim Dokja became a bully? In fact, he's the one being bullied. His past is literally him losing hope in life because he's being bullied and shame all throughout the school year for being the son of a murderer. In fact, it got to the point wherein he jumped. It's honestly so sad that him, who experienced all the bad things, would become the bad thing himself. Can the director even see if that's the same story they're following? Because if you ask any ORV fans, it's literally far from it.
• Mother, what the hell do you mean by taking care of his mother? The reason he was bullied was because of it. It may be heavy plot for some but does this mean we should replace it to a completely new one? Hell no. The reason why Kim Dokja is like that because that's what made him like this. A quiet reader who's only hope to live was reading his novel in peace. Of all the atrocious things he experienced, it will be forgotten because of the movie portraying him as someone who love his Mother. Change his past and you'll change him completely.
• Sexual Assault, when Kim Dokja first encounter Jung Heewon is when she was getting assaulted. Again, it's another heavy plot but that doesn't mean they should change it. Jung Heewon is the embodiment of justice, what justice is there when even her own character doesn't experience it?
• Powers, the characters using a gun is already explained. Aside from that is Yoo Sangah building bridge and healing. NEVER EVER has Yoo Sangah heals people. What? Do you think she heals someone by whipping them? What the fuck? Are they alright in the head?

Finale, while I can think more reasons to hate the live action, I hope that there are more entertainment industry who can give sufficient JUSTICE for the story. Hate the movie and the director, not the actors. For those who wants to open a debate with me, please make sure that you've at least read the manhwa or novel. Useless changes that never happened in the novel./manhwa, that ruins the movie

I find it really disgusting how they changes absolutely Everything about orv in the movie, I don't know why but I find it really disgusting, Because in my opinion, the story of the original orv was already amazing. There was no need to change it. Changing small little stuff, I get it. It's understandable but changing the major arcs in the novel/ manhwa this makes it feel like you just went to chat gpt and ask it to summarize the whole entire novel/manhwa in 100 word or smth. And changing major plots like them using a sword to them using a gun, it feels like the producers didn't even read the novel. I feel like this is not a orv anymore, this is a whole different story. I don't really care about the cast that much in my opinion.Of course we as the viewers have opinions on who we would like to have in the cast , but I don't personally don't really care about it that much. And it pisses me off so bad how they butchered one of the characters. (Bihyung) there were so many ways to make it loor accurate but they fucked it up A LOT , Also, something that pisses me off is. What the fuck do you mean they made Yoo Sangah a healer and that kim dokja is a bully and that they made joo jonghyuk a side character!?!?!?!? Lets be honest the only people who are gonna watch the movie and give it a good review are people who never knew about orv
(the novel/manhwa) to begin with or are blinks and want to support jisoo. Even though I don't really care about the casting that much.I feel like it all started with the casting and then they butchered everything that came right after the casting.
Anyways after my stupid tiring rant, all that I can conclude Is, don't watch the movie it's gonna be ass. But then you might be like. " But you didn't watch It.". But I read the novel and everything is completely different from whatever they're yapping about in the trailer. Like wdym they use gun????? The whole movie was just a big waste of money. And a big mistake. There was no need to even make a live action to begin with... anyways i'm really tired of typing all of this bye. Lololololol

THIS ADAPTATION MAKES US FEEL LIKE DYING

LIKE WDYM KIM DOKJA HATES TWSA?! WDYM THE AUTHOR TOLD HIM TO WRITE HIS OWN STORY?! KIM DOKJA LOVES TWSA SO MUCH SINCE IT WAS A NOVEL THAT SAVED HIS LIFE WHEN HE IS SUFFERING FROM DEPRESSION. HIS MOTHER WAS IN JAIL FOR TAKING THE BLAME OF KILLING HIS DAD SINCE THE REAL ONE WHO KILLED KIM DOKJA'S DAD IS NONE OTHER THAN KIM DOKJA!! THIS LEADS KIM DOKJA TO HAVE TRAUMA AND SHORT AMNESIA MAKING HIM HAVE NO CLEAR MEMORY OF THAT CRIME AT ALL, AND TO EASE THE STRESS AND PAIN HE GREW UP READING TWSA THROUGH MIDDLE SCHOOL TO THE DAY HE GOT HIS JOB. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST HATED THING FOR US ORV FANS, BECAUSE CHANGING ONE THING MAKES EVERYTHING HAVE NO SENSE AT ALL. SECOND OF ALL WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO MY GLORIOUS BIHYUNG?! WHAT IS THAT MONSTER LOOKING LABUBU FLOATING IN THE AIR?! BIHYUNG IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE HORNS WITH FLUFFY PLUSH TOY LIKE BODY. THE BIHYUNG WE KNOW IS SOMEONE THAT YOU WOULD LIKELY TO HUG BECAUSE OF HOW CUTE HE LOOKS. NOT THAT MONSTER LOOKING THING. YEAH THEY ARE MONSTERS BUT THEY LOOK LIKE A CUTIE STUFF TOY. ADD MORE THAT THEY ARE USING GUNS?! IN ORV PEOPLE WHO USE GUNS ARE EXTRAS. SINCE MOST CHARACTERS WAS GIVEN WEAPONS BY THEIR CONSTELLATIONS THAT IS EITHER SWORDS AND ETC. NO MAIN CHARACTER IN ORV USES GUNS! BECAUSE THEY ARE FIGHTING THICK SCALED MONSTERS IN LAND AND WATER!! THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FLEXIBLE TO KILL THE MONSTERS MORE EASILY. THEY DON'T USE GUNS!!! AND WHAT ABOUT THAT SHIT I HEARD THAT YOO JOONGHYUK IS NOT A PROTAGONIST?! HE IS AND WILL EVER BE THE PROTAGONIST OF ORV AND TWSA. KIM DOKJA IS THE ANOMALY OF THE STORY WHICH MAKES BOTH OF THEM THE MAIN CHARACTERS WITH OTHER IMPORTANT CHARACTERS!!! DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE WAY THEY FILMED THE MOVIE!!! IT LOOKS LIKE AN AVERAGE VARIETY TV SHOW!! AND DID YOU KNOW THAT THEY CASTED FAMOUS PEOPLE JUST TO MONEY-GRAB?! Honestly im impressed

I'm honestly very impressed at how bad this is.
Im even making an account to write this review. Ridiculous.
I was excited at first, an adaptation of my favorite story featuring lee minho, jisoo and nana.
But wow. How could the director messed this up so badly. I don't like how absurd your changes is. I can't agree the way you change jisoo's weapon. But im giving a 6 for the cast because im still bias my fav actor/idol.
But its still terrible. You can't even use these actors well. Is your budget so bad you can't style lee minho well? He have a good face why made his hair like that. But i still love his acting. Maybe because im bias. He do look stiff though. Actually everyone is stiff. I love the movie because of some of the cast, hate the movie be able of you and how badly you butchered my fav story.

Don't get me started on the cinematography and cgi as well. What is this? I thought you had budget. Why is it terrible. I feel like watching slide. It feels like looking at a joke. Their words and their thoughts were all jumbled up im confused. It feels like im looking at a bad comedy.

Would not recommend to watch it. Don't waste your money.

Just forget it. If you’re not going to respect the source material, don’t even bother adapting it. The ORV live action is an insult to the original work. You really thought you ate? Be serious. It completely derails the core plot, waters down character arcs, and loses all the nuance that made the novel special. Kim Dokja feels like a background character in his own story, the pacing is all over the place, and the worldbuilding? Nonexistent. This isn’t a tribute—it’s a cheap cash grab dressed in flashy effects and hollow drama. Fans waited years for this, and what we got is a shallow imitation with no soul.

Worst than The Last Airbender Live Action

This is probably worst than Last Airbender Live Action. Everything is just off. I tried viewing it with fresh eyes but its still bad.
1. Characters- Aside from Lee Minho, everyone drifted apart from the characters they're supposed to play. The script is already bad as it it but they just had to make their own interpretation to the characters and ruin them. Like how can they turn a bullied character into a bully? How can they make KDJ hate the novel TWSA, when it was supposed to be his lifeline for over 13 years when he was suffering from being bullied and being depressed? How can they make the writer, tls123 say a petty thing such as "then write it yourself", when she wrote twsa for him and only him? How can they change KDJ's beloved and cheered character from YJH to Jung Heewon? Jung Heewon is not even mentioned in TWSA, she's just an extra that died somewhere in the story of TWSA.
2. Story- Aside from the synopsis of the novel becoming real and apocalypse happening with quests to survive(the scenarios), everything is off. They changed almost everything, like 99% of the story. I'm okay with minor changes but changing the heart of the story is the worst that they have done.
3. Script and Cinematography- The dialogues are so cringe I can't even laugh, at least The Last Airbender is bad that is funny. This is just bad. The cinematography is like its done by newbies. I think skits from reels and shorts are better than this.

In conclusion, this is like building a new building but without the original and important foundations. And also with different blocks and parts that doesn't seem to fit together.
