My favorite korean bl

I smiled so much throughout this drama. It overall is just a beautiful story. I am astonished with how the pacing was for this drama. How much they fit in only 8 episodes with an average of 20 minutes. That is so hard to do without the audience feeing confused or like it was all over the place however that was not the case here at all. It just had me wanting more and more though lol.

The director did such a great job conveying this drama. The actors portrayed their characters with such class. It really gives you butterflies when watching it. The cinematography is just so beautiful and the detail. The way they used colors to portray the feelings of the characters with Jaeyoung’s being red and Sangwoo’s being blue than purple when their feelings come together. Just such a great drama.

A must watch

Before I started watching the series, I didn't really know what to think. Every review I've seen by far was that it was supposedly "the best kbl so far" so I decided to give it a try, and I can most definitely tell you I wasn't disappointed at all, it stood up to the reviews and even surpassed my expectations. I'd definitely recommend it.

I don't have much experience with reviewing so I'll just divide it into two categories, what I absolutely liked and what I found odd.

WHAT I LIKED:
- The production was really good, in comparison to most small series, it's most definitely outstanding. I like the way it doesn't feel that rushed at all, and it's noticable if you compare it to other kbl series. Bonus points go to episodes actually being 20+ minutes and not barely 8-10.
- The acting was, in my opinion, amazing. It made the series more enjoyabe.
- I like the set of boundaries between characters such as when to touch and kiss, as well as Jaeyoung actually giving Sangwoo time to think and not forcing him and saying he must be with him.
- Side characters not being completely ignored, love the way it isn't focused on the main characters 24/7 and that we can actually see the friendships more than just a few seconds of screentime - I loved every scene where Yuna would talk to Jaeyoung and Sangwoo + being pretty much straightforward. It's also quite new to me to see a sapphic character and I love it!
- Absolutely loved the way Jaeyoung adjusted to Sangwoo's way of thinking and finding a way to communicate with him, specifically all the 2 week trial scenes.
- I like the way plot wasn't ignored. The main idea of Sangwoo looking for a designer, making a game and fixing errors was present throughout all episodes.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
- The stalker-like behaviour from Jaeyoung at the beginning of the series, just because he had to retake the semester? I get that he was mad at Sangwoo for not being able to go abroad (which was his own fault) but going out of your way to find out what Sangwoo likes, doesn't like and all the info about him is beyond weird. As well as constantly sticking around Sangwoo even though he stated that he wasn't too comfortable with him being around almost all the time.
- The kiss while Jaeyoung was sleeping. Even though we later find out that Jaeyoung wasn't completely asleep later, you don't go around kissing people who are, especially without clear mutual liking towards one another, it's creepy.

Overall, definitely an improvement in the bl industry, I wish to see more series as well done as this one.

BEST SK BL!!!

LET ME TELL YOU. WHOEVER ASKS FOR BL RECOMMENDATIONS, THIS WILL BE THE FIRST ONE I'LL GIVE THEM.

NOTE TO EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO TRY THIS DRAMA BUT DOESN'T WANT TO READ ALL OF THIS:

This was the best Korean bl I've ever watched. They actually kissed in this drama and there were no dumb little small pecks or anything. The actors were not feeling awkward while in other dramas, you could see them being really awkward. ALSO I'M A FAN OF ENEMIES TO LOVERS TROPE!!! Honestly, I had no high expectations for this drama as some other people did. I thought it was just another average bl going on but SK really shocked me. I REALLY WISH THEY HAVE A SEASON 2 AND I CAN WAIT FOR IT!

PRODUCTION
The lighting was really good and OMG I LOVED THE BISEXUAL LIGHTING GOING ON EPISODE 7!

MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS
My favorite characters were ofc the main leads and Choi Yuna. I literally loved Choi Yuna so much. I wish she had more screen time. As for Ryu Ji Hye, I guess a lot of people hated her because she kept coming into their relationship but she was just clueless. Other than that, she was one of my favorites. I kind of understand why some people hated her though. I'm really glad Park Jae Chan chose to act in the drama and didn't ignore it because they had the best chemistry.

MUSIC
I have nothing much to say about the music but I loved the episode preview music and the intro music a lot. I liked all of them but again, I have nothing much about it so I'll rate it a 10.

REWATCH VALUE
I will be rewatching this drama again for my 2nd time but honestly, I hate rewatching dramas because I have a fear that I'll hate it then which is why I gave the rewatch value a 9.5.

THANK YOU FOR READING MY REVIEW!
I really tried my best to keep it spoiler-free so that other people who haven't tried it out can read my review and probably decide if it's really that good and if they should give it a try. I am not good at writing reviews but I hope this was an okay review.

Addictive

I watched the drama while I was reading the novel and also after I had seen the anime mini series, so I was really shocked on how well the actors portrayed the characters.

The drama stayed true to the novel in most parts but cut off some important parts due to the 8 episode count. I loved the production and this has to be my favourite BL so far. The Male lead and Main Character showed their characters perfectly that I cannot think of a better person who could pull it off so effortlessly. Jang Jaeyoung was portrayed to the core making us understand his character through a mere 8 episodes and honestly Park Seoham and Park Jaechan honestly look so handsome that their looks enough were enough to keep the drama going. Their chemistry was sizzling and made the watch all the more better.

The character Jang Jaeyoung is said to be the most handsome dude in the campus and Chu Sangwoo to be the one who looks handsome enough but covers himself with a cap thus making me really happy about the casting. I loved the kisses, they somehow seemed to show the affection and love the characters felt for each other.

The ost was also amazing. It fit the parts where Jang Jaeyoung was literally acting like a virus in Chu Sangwoo's life with its devilish, slightly playboy music and the soft romantic songs in places where the scenes were sweet. The music fit appropriately in scenes and made them even more enjoyable.

Overall, it was a great drama that I keep going back to rewatch it and keep watching FMV's about it that I can safely say that I am quite obsessed with it.

This is a good start to watch KBL.

Honestly, I am very picky abt the movies I watch, especially in this kind of genre. I really can't afford to watch actors who were awkward even in acting. I don't even have a plan on watching any KBLs but for some reason, Semantic Error made me watch one and I am glad that I watched it. Semantic Error really is the standard. From the production to the actors and all the things that revolve in this drama is so good to me. I just watched some clips on youtube and I was intrigued and I find it cute too so I waited for the series to finish and watched yesterday Ep. 1 - Ep. 8. It was really a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I was embarrassed for a sec and then I am smiling and laughing and almost crying, it's hard to explain. I nearly cried when it ended. I read the webtoon and I can say that everything is meant to be what they are. Park Seoham and Park Jae-chan are living Jang Jaeyeong and Chu Sangwoo. I am so happy that they accepted the roles because I don't think anyone is as good as them for portraying Jaeyeong and Sangwoo. The OSTs are the best too. They really know when to put it and add more emotions. I just like everything abt this. I don't think I can move on easily, lmaaaaooo.

Semantic Error is really the standard, y'all. My First KBL and they didn't disappoint me.

excellent!

I love this drama, in my opinion, its possible this could be one of the best bl dramas out there. Literally the love story between the two main characters is just amazing! An enemy to lover story like this just hits different, the way they somehow fall in love. Semantic error is based of a korean manga, they have not put any s3xual scenes or anything but the story is well done. I also recommend the novel. Theres only 8 episodes and im looking forward a season 2. This story is high school era im pretty sure. Just saying, the visuals are amazing too!

Good Enough

Korean Drama "Semantic Error" is a BL college drama.

The drama, being a light web series, has few episodes and thus, it doesn't have a lot of time to have a proper development. And yet, the first part of the story is pretty neat and enjoyable, with the dynamics of the main couple being on point and enjoyable. The rest of the characters were interesting as well, apart from that girl friend of the male lead's who was annoying and insufferable, and the definition of a bad friend. The other female lead, on the other hand, was adorable.

Again, the relationship and the chemistry between the main leads is the main entertainment factor, as well as the reason of this dramas success. Other than that, the story is pretty basic and rushed.

The performances, finally, were nice by everyone in the cast.

So, overall, three and a half out of ten.

another BL that shows the true potential of KBL

I was really looking forward to this BL and even though I had quite the expectations, it still managed to exceed them. This BL doesn't have anything super unique to it, it manages to portray what they have in a wonderful and unique way, though. As I always say, you don't have to bring something new to the table, but you have to put your own spin on things and this show did it really well.

Mad props to the writers, the director and the actors who managed to make the relationship between Sangwoo and Jaeyoung what it is. Because of them, I consider it my favorite Korean BL (with To My Star ofc). We have great female characters that aren't villanized, beautiful cinematography, symbolism, parallels, HANDS and actually well-done kisses. Not to mention the great chemistry between the two leads. I highly suggest for everyone to give this BL a chance.

(Also the casual bi representation >>>>>>>>>>)

I LOVE SEMANTIC ERROR

One of the best Korean BL ever to be made. Love the drama and the webtoon. Not even a single ERROR can be spotted. O so loved it from episode one to the eighth. I give it a 10/10 peace!! The chemistry between Park Seo Ham and Park Jae Chan is so good, and they nailed the scenes! Just like the webtoon, the acting was spot on. Now, coming to the technical aspects, the sound is brilliant, I love the song "Romantic devil" so much. Then the cinematography was okay, loved the opening scene of episode 1 and the ending scene of the last episode. there were so many great elements in this drama. Even though there have been many Korean dramas that have created huge impacts, I believe Semantic Error is the actual beginning of the reign of Korean Bls. There will be a huge to shift to Korean BL, starting from this drama.

A rare case of enemies to lovers done right.

As a fan of the manhwa, this series does not disappoint. The events and storyline from the manhwa and this series are different in some aspects, but all in all I feel the changes were necessary and I didn't mind it too much. It fully lived up to what I sought out from a drama.

Production: 10/10.
Amazing. For a korean bl, this production is top tier. Actually, erase the korean bl part, for a series this production is amazing. The digital parts and the animation that has a part to this series is visually aesthetic, along with the quality of the shots in the series.

I can tell from the production the crew and cast actually care about this series and want to make it the best they could, unlike other bls that are an obvious cash grab. Obviously I know all series want money, but series can do this whilst actually caring about the storyline. Which is something I find hard in bls- finding something that is well produced, a nice storyline, good acting, etc that i’m interested in. And semantic error is one of them I actually enjoy.

Story: 9.5/10.
Now in this part I will be very obviously biased since I am a fan of the manhwa so keep that in mind. In my opinion, this drama really came to life from the manhwa, and as a fan of it, I am pleasantly happy with how the storyline went and the pacing of it all.

In the manhwa it is more of a slow burn and there were more situations that happened, but all in all I understood they weren’t able to cram all of the chapters of the manhwa into 8 episodes with 20-30 minutes each. I give this a 9.5 because of the stalker part (I mean that could easily go wrong) and - SPOILERS AHEAD-> sangwoo kissed jaeyoung without his consent in episode 6. Which, I understand, isn't a big deal but I did not find that cute or endearing, both in the series and in the manhwa. The manhwa itself also has some issues with consent, but this is not about that.

What I liked about the live action: Jaeyoung and yuna being bi. That was a nice touch. Also jihye, the one pursuing sangwoo didn't end up being an obsessive, toxic, second female lead. The kisses and affection, wow. I'd say this live action had more affectionate scenes than the manhwa, along with making the storyline more wholesome, which is a win for me.

Acting: 9.5/10.
Is this Oscar worthy nominated acting? No. The acting isn’t bad, but it’s not spectacular either. But considering semantic error is an enemies to lovers college romance without much depth to the story, it’s to be expected that the actors park seo ham and jaechan didn’t fully explore their acting abilities. Although I think park seo ham and jaechan are perfect for the role, visually at least. Overall, their acting was ok and didn’t make me cringe so that’s good. After watching the final episode though, I'd say their acting was pretty good. I can tell they're comfortable with their role, especially with the kisses/ affectionate scenes. They were so wholesome.

Visuals: 10/10.
Amazing. The props used, the locations where they shot this, the wardrobe- chefs kiss <3 I said it before but I'll say it again. They really brought this manhwa to life in the best way possible.

Ost: 10/10.
Romantic devil is addicting. Genuinely, i could not stop repeating that song in my playlist after the first time i listened to it, which is the scene of jaeyoung vibing in the staircase (if I remember correctly in ep 2).

Rewatch value: 10/10.
I don’t usually rewatch series, ever, but i’d rewatch ‘semantic error’ anytime.

Side note: Please do not ship the actors together. It’s alright to think they’d look good together, but keep in mind that they’re coworkers and good friends at most. Let’s not go overboard with the shipping and stay grounded in reality. Let’s also not assume/speculate about their sexuality, and if it turns out they end up being in a relationship with someone in the future, let’s continue to support them and not harass their partner. They are most likely good friends and they have a good bond with each other, that’s nice. Let's be supportive and rational fans, not a delulu fanbase.
