Slow Burn? This One Forgot To Light The Match ?
The Epoch of Miyu started like it was preparing a grand feast… then served warm water and emotional room service 😅I get what they were trying to do. Mature romance. Real life struggles. Healing after divorce. Workplace rebuilding. And honestly, the realism was probably the strongest part of the show. Life after divorce is messy, awkward, lonely and sometimes strangely freeing all at once. They captured that part well.
But whew… this drama moved slower than hotel lobby WiFi during peak hours ☕🐢
For something labelled romance, there was hardly any actual romance. A few stares, some emotional support meetings, long pauses, and suddenly we are supposed to believe epic love happened somewhere between housekeeping shifts and board meetings 😭
And can we talk about how the FL somehow came out glowing after divorce? Better career. Better wardrobe. Better opportunities. Switzerland. Emotional growth package included 😂 Meanwhile the audience was still waiting for chemistry to check into the hotel.
It was less “falling in love” and more “LinkedIn Premium: The Drama.”
Still… I’ll give it this. It did feel more grounded than the usual fantasy romance where the CEO falls in love after catching someone tripping in slow motion. This one at least showed adult scars, adult exhaustion, and adult survival.
But romance lovers? You may leave hungry 😅

It started well but never met its full potential
Things I loved1 The premise. A bit different than most dramas and although I dislike stories involving a divorce this sounded interesting and went into it with high hopes. The hotel setting is also one of my favorites so I was looking forward to it.
2 The FL. I loved her in Why is He Still Single and wanted to see her in another role and this one seemed perfect for her. I'll leave her in the love list, but I have to admit I was a bit disappointed in the end with her character and her acting. But she's gorgeous and had some great outfits and some great scenes. All in all, though, I was expecting so much more. I thought it was her character in Why is He Still Single that left a bit to be desired but I realize now that it's her way of acting in general and it doesn't speak to me.
It's fine to play the decent, reserved woman, but when you can't connect when she's mad or sad or anything there is a problem. That said, I was so invested in her arc I wanted her to be happy and get rid of all riff raff around her, aka her family and that stupid 2FL. She was good in some scenes with the stuff and her friend, but she wasn't that good with her family and the ML. Something was missing and left me unsatisfied in the end. I even dropped her from my favorite actors list. I found her acting monotone and I wish she had more range. Tat said she'0s so gorgeous I will seek her next drama to see if her acting is better or rather different.
3 I loved the ML friend. The actor did a good to convey things and his character was decent and I was rooting for him. I didn't like the ending and I wish he found happiness in his personal life, although not necessarily with the chef.
4 The jazz orchestra and Daniel's father. He was a character and I loved the way he found his place among the rest of the hotel residents and stuff. He was good to the FL and fair de spite his son's feelings for her.
Things I liked
1 The ML. It's my first drama with the actor and I won't look for his dramas but he did a good job. Not great, but good enough. My problem with his character is the same as with the FL. Not engaging enough. Yes, they are mature and they can't act impulsively all the time, but it'd be great to see a little more sparks between them. To be honest, his confession was at least believable and I wanted him to be happy. It's just that for the most part of the series he didn't show any strong feelings about anything and that bothers me. I'm older than them and I'm passionate about life and everything all the while being reserved. So something fell off. Also, I didn't find there was tons of chemistry between him and the FL. Not enough to make the romance shine. Last thing, his character was a little off-putting at first with the whole cheating fiasco, but I think he redeemed himself in the end.
2 Most of the stuff, even those who were against the FL at first. If you ask me their short arcs were much more interesting than some parts related to the main leads. I liked the camaraderie and even the pettiness between them. It made for something real we all encountered in our jobs.
3 The chef. I just liked her but nothing more. I don't think I really cared about her and at first I felt like her character was too childish for a professional. I just liked how supportive of the FL was. The rest was meh.
4 Duan. I know he got on the nerves of many viewers and I get why but to me he was funny and to be honest kept my interest all along. If they had taken a bit if time to develop his character better he could be one of the best characters in the series. It's a shame they stayed on the surface, he had potential. The actor did a great job.
5 Tan. Contrary to others I found his character the most believable. I know people like him and he never did anything wrong. He was honest about his feelings and I'm irritated when I read that the FL misled him. No she didn't. If you are an adult you know there are periods in your life you get confused and yes you can be confused about your feelings. She apologized if he got the wrong message and he understood. He also made a few faux pas insisting she comes with him, but this is the human nature.
He didn't force anything and she didn't do anything reprehensible. Grow up all of you who think she was in the wrong. I liked his character and his relationship with the FL is the most sensible in the whole drama. Only in my circle I know three couples who had similar experiences. People have the right to fall in love and to fight for that love as long as they don't harm the other person. You have the right to think of kissing someone even if it's for the wrong reasons. It doesn't make you a bad person and the list goes on.
Things I disliked
1 The ex-husband of course. Although I didn't hate him and he proved to be somewhat decent by helping her. I hate cheating with all my being but I think he paid enough for a stupid mistake and with all that happened to him I can't say I hated his character. I think the actor sold well the arc and that's also another reason I only dislike him.
2 The owner of the hotel, the aunt. I don't know why but although she did some good things for the hotel, I found her character underwhelming and her long support of her nephew got on my nerves.
3 Some of the cases the FL had to deal with. They were badly written and over the top. To be fair I didn't like the hotel at all. Not the style and not the vibe. I've seen other dramas where the hotel shines, here it was bland and whatever action they took to improve the sales didn't work for me. That they claimed having results was ridiculous at the best.
4 The lack of romance. Except for a few kisses where was the romance? No sparks between them and although I get that romance wasn't the focus if you have it even as a second or third component you have to deliver nevertheless. Another reason I was disappointed from the whole drama.
5 The ending. I could even out it on the hate list so much I disliked it, but because I get what they wanted to convey I leave it here. But, and here me out why, I hated the ending when I think of the FL's behavior. I'm someone who refused to move to another country because my boyfriend wanted to, someone who put my job before my relationship quite a few times and never regretted. Someone who chose to study later in life instead of getting married and never regretted either. So it's not like I don't get where the FL is coming from.
I support her move to Switzerland, which was funny to me since I live close to EHL where she's supposed to go to, and of course I'm with the ML and his decision to wait for her. That's the adult and decent thing to do. You respect her goals and you trust your relationship. But when the FL said she made the decision alone without even talking to him, that's where I draw the line. If you are in a mature and honest relationship you talk with the other person even if your mind is made. You don't decide alone and then show not remorse at all, that's a lack of respect toward someone you claim to love. If you are strong you give the other person the chance to weigh on your decision. It's an implicit right and it takes nothing away from your independence. When you don't even mention something that big to him, you are weak, tactless and to be honest not in love. You don't deserve someone like him who supported you all along and is ready to wait for you.
That's where my disliking for the FL character comes. She never showed true feeling for the ML. he was always the one to support her and to show his feelings. I know she was cheated and she was cautious but she's a grown up adult who indulgent her stupid family and she can't have the common courtesy to talk with her boyfriend about something that big? You don't respect less alone love him. A miss that ruined the drama for me.
Things I hated
1 The nephew. I wish I could see him suffer more. What an arrogant little jerk who never worked a day in his life and only learned how to manipulate people and things to his advantage. At least he got some kind of punishment.
2 The despicable 2FL. She did a great job for me to hate her and that I found her ugly didn't help. I think she was awfully dressed and her make up was appalling. All in all one of the ugliest characters inside and outside. The baby twist was also stupid and worthy of a teenager first draft. I hate that kind of predictable clichés when they aren't funny or moving. She got what she deserved but the baby story was left without an outcome and that was also something that irritated me.
3 The sister. Such a leech and until the end she was a stupid, unworthy character who the FL should cut ties without a second thought. That's another reason I didn't like as much as I thought the FL. She was spineless a lot of times and she never was up to the challenge if you ask me regarding her family.
4 The father if you can call this. With a father like him you better not having one. A stupid, manipulative, horrible person. The FL should cut ties with him as well and be a bit more honest with him and with how they made her feel. Every time he appeared on the screen I wanted to slap him.
5 The mother. I think I hated her even more than the sister and the father. The FL was her daughter and she treated her a source of money for her husband's whims. The whole arc with the mother was stupid to be honest and I didn't care what happened to her. I'd love it if she stayed away from her daughter instead of the comme il faut ending we had. Shameless the whole family.

One of my favorites of 2026
The Epoch of Miyu seems like an unconventional cdrama of 2026, I don't think this is regarded as an idol drama. It has a more mature vibe, and it focuses on Miyu's second chance at life after divorce. I think it caters towards a mature audience rather than those who prefer just romance, and expect some romance chemistry.I personally enjoy these types of dramas, because it follows the main character, Xu Miyu, through her ups and downs in the hotel industry. I like how Xi Miyu as a character finally grew a backbone and not allow others to take advantage of her kindness post-divorce. The speed of her climbing the ladder and getting a better job is unrealistic, but i like how she's a quick learner and studies pretty for the role she was promoted to. She doesn't take it for granted. She's very humble in her roles, she puts in the effort and it just motivates me to work harder in my opinion. This is my first time watching Zhu Zhu, and I think she is incredibly pretty and her acting is fine to me. It's not awkward, yes she talks in that monotone in all her ramblings *cough* but to me its basically her professional voice when she rambles while at work. I can see her miniscule muscle movements when she gets pissed at a coworker and still kept professionlism - It's just the way she stares, and clutches her jaws, but still smile - oh that was so good. HAHAHA I will be watching more of her dramas for sure!!
As for the male lead, Wallace Chung, I think his character was quite annoying at times, but also professional yes. He emodied his role quite well. Unfortunately, Wallance seem to not match well with Zhu Zhu in terms of visual. The age gap was immensely obvious, it was like a thorn in my side when I watched these two together. I don't typically care about visuals as long as the actors can act so it wasn't so bad I guess. In terms of chemistry with Zhu Zhu, I couldn't see it? I felt like Zhu Zhu had more chemistry with the previous husband in the drama than with Wallace. Otherwise, Wallace's acting is fine in my opinion.
I feel like the antagonists of this drama were very childish. At some point, I was wondering WHY do they keep this one guy in the hotel knowing FULL well he's been stealing your ideas and whatnot. Why not ban him? And then the other bad guy in the drama just wants to bring Ji Feng down, because his aunt always favored Ji Feng - just very childish. A lot of the trouble that Miyu gets into will always be resolved, and it dampens my enjoyment of the drama. It became very predictable basically.
So yeah the plot eventually fell flat for me, especially when Miyu was transferred towards the end, and that arc was very boring to me. The female antagonist, Lu Zhen Zhen aka Li Meng (love her acting), her plot twist definitely caught me by surprised not going to lie. But her ending was so disappointing! AlsoLi Qiao Qi!! I loved her attitude, I love her personality but her romantic ENDING HELLO?! What the heck happened? :( I guess they never planned for her romantic partner. I was disappointed. :(
Other than a few hiccups in the drama, I did enjoy it overall including the music. ^^
The moral of the story is very clear: Don't be a push over, set boundaries, and keep fighting for the goal you wanted in life.
Would I recommend this drama? I don't think so if you really want romance, romance isn't the main goal of this drama. However, if you think you feel stuck in life, perhaps this drama can give you a bit of motivation.

Don’t let the ratings fool you
I don’t write reviews but I feel the comments from most viewers got me shaking my head through out this drama.Thankfully after watching a short online clip I popped in here & only read another positive review before starting this.
I wanted to leave a comment but what I wanted to say is obviously too long so I’m leaving it here in review.
First off this drama’s main genre tag is Business… why anyone would expect a housewife of 10 yrs that got cheated on then somehow developed low self esteem & had nothing to her name with a sh*tty family to have complete confidence in herself is just nonsense.
These comments about her character I feel needed to review her starting point.
It’s other tag is Life meaning it ain’t always gonna be sunshine & flowers like your regular mainstream & the people/ characters aren’t always gonna be straight or proper.
From ep 1 it’s very clear the FL is well educated & speaks fluent English…she even has a resume that indicated she had a studied background for managing before marriage.
10 yrs of no work experience is obviously understandable that she won’t get positions in this field but why is it so hard for ppl to understand that it doesn’t make a person incompetent even though her work growth is obviously bias because she is recognised early on & the fact that the ML was clearly using her so he doesn’t have to risk using anyone from the chain of corrupt ppl he was trying to push out.
And her growth in housekeeping & clients is not at all surprising since being a trophy wife of a business man that deals with perfection, luxury & company dinners & events would be a piece of cake in her hands.
As for the slow burn romance..yes it’s very slow but it’s honestly realistic.
Both leads got a lot to prove on a turning point in their lives so romance is subtle, was treaded carefully & shown through their support at work.
I didn’t feel this impacted the drama in any way negative since the business aspect was a good follow & their chemistry when they did got together was worth the wait.
Although her hesitations afterwards was a bit annoying but considering what she’s been through she can somehow be excused.
My only main complaint in this department is some of her actions with the other suitor.
Overall it’s not perfect but in but it’s actually a good watch.
****
If you only want romance this isn’t for you.
If you want that mainstream upstanding ML this may also not be for you since he ain’t perfect in the beginning…that’s for his character growth.
If you don’t have the mindset to follow a business growth venture then this definitely isn’t for you.
This drama is very enjoyable only if you are in the right mindset otherwise don’t go in expecting sunshine but hate the sun.
If you read this whole comment & you might still be interested then give it a shot.
This rating is actually a rare disappointment in MDL for me because I simply read the gother comments & feel most weren’t understanding the plot’s intensions or expecting a lot from a correctly tagged genre.

Ji Feng runs a five-star hotel. Miyu runs Ji Feng.
I logged in for Wallace Chung. Four dramas in and I have apparently made peace with this being a personality trait. So when his name appeared on a 2026 hotel romance, resistance was never really on the table.Xu Miyu starts out genuinely likeable. Warm, perceptive, the kind of woman who notices what others miss. Then the show reveals that her entire personality is built around being incapable of saying no to anyone, ever, and my patience began its slow departure. She lets everyone walk over her. She lets Lu Zhenzhen bulldoze into her personal space. She smiles through situations that would have a normal person flipping tables. Mrs Goody Two Shoes has her charm for maybe two episodes. By episode twelve I was exhausted on her behalf.
Ji Feng sees it too. His quiet expectation that she’ll eventually grow a backbone is honestly the most relatable thing about him. Get out of that shell, girl!
Now. The hotel.
The Purong is supposedly a five-star establishment. A functioning luxury hotel with departments, senior staff, years of institutional structure. And yet, somehow, the whole operation would apparently collapse without the providential intervention of a woman who was folding bedsheets a few months ago. VIP scandals, PR disasters, interpersonal crises, and at some point, Chinese pastries. The writers keep throwing emergencies at Miyu like she’s the only person with a pulse in the entire building. It is funny the first time. By the fifth it starts feeling like the hotel is less a workplace and more a helpless creature that only she can feed.
The saving grace is that the romance is genuinely fun to watch unfold. Ji Feng lashing out at her only to quietly reckon with the fact that it came from jealousy was delicious. The conveniently pre-stocked bandage for her hurting foot made me roll my eyes so hard I saw my own brain, and yet. The WeChat exchange moment had me screaming. The confrontation between Ji Feng and Mr Tang, where someone finally had the audacity to ask him in what exact capacity he was inserting himself into Miyu’s life, was some of the best television this drama produced
The accidental kiss trope however can retire at any time. It did not fit Ji Feng’s character. It never fits anyone’s character. The laws of physics do not support it.
But when this show gets it right, it really gets it right. Two people circling each other, one too stubborn to admit what he feels, the other too busy saving a five-star hotel from its own incompetence to notice. Wallace Chung makes Ji Feng worth every contrived plot detour. Controlled, warm in spite of himself, and still aging like a problem.
I am deeply annoyed by this drama. I have not missed a single episode.

Life is unfair
This series has a message it wants to ram home, which is mainly directed at women. It’s this: you should always be able to take care of yourself because you never know what might happen, who might try to undermine you, or even betray you. Life is unfair.
The FL learns in the first episode that her husband has been having a long term affair with a woman who’s now pregnant, who wants to replace her as her husband’s wife. The husband seems perfectly happy to let this happen.
So, Miyu, the FL, a woman with no education or work experience, divorces him and goes looking for an entry level job.
At this point, some Asian dramas like to imply that if the female lead (it’s always the female) grits her teeth, endures her burdens with grace and fortitude, all will turn out for the best. Every once in a while, one character or another pounds this theme home–in case the viewers have missed it.
The FL finds work at the elegant Purong Hotel, where she’s subject to daily indignities, mild bullying, and other unfair treatment. Another theme of this series is how the lower level employees of the hotel are blamed for everything that goes wrong. And they in turn, blame someone even lower than they are on the totem pole.
But the FL actually likes her job. She finds a few genuine friends and allies, and strives to please the remote, mysterious Feng Ji, General Manager of the hotel, who often corrects her (trivial) mistakes and criticizes her.
It soon turns out that the success of the hotel is hanging by a thread. Everything depends on–wait for it--SHEETS! Will a certain hygiene problem be solved? Or will the hotel’s dirty laundry be exposed for all to see?
The main rule of storytelling is: keep the viewer engaged.
And I’m still engaged, although slightly bemused by this absolutely silly plot development
Later (episode 28): I still don’t feel much warmth for the ML. He seems to be a cold fish, someone who can express negative emotions when necessary, but struggles with the positive ones. Does he feel anything for the clever and beautiful FL? Or does he have ice water in his veins.
Another thing that’s tiresome is the way the two leads treat the rich guests at the hotel. Both the ML and the FL find immense satisfaction in devoting their lives to making the moneyed classes ever more comfortable than they already are. Really Miyu? Really Ji Feng? This is how you want to spend your one precious life? Obsessing over laundry, pastry, and carpet stains?
Well, maybe not. I’ll check in again later to see if either of these folks have had a change of heart.
Epsode 31 – Well...finally. Things have taken a turn.
But...a little bit later–it’s back to the real business of this drama, which is–BUSINESS. Does Miyu have what it takes to go into sales? I guess we’ll find out. The poor girl may have to start at the bottom...again.
Eps. 34 has my favorite scene. Our two leads quarrel--and to emphasize how far apart they are (metaphorically speaking), we see them separated by an elevator door, which closes slowly...once...twice...as many as five or six times. Loved it.
Meanwhile, product placement and industry accolades are creeping into the dialog, eulogising the merits of pickles, AI, and robots. I’m hoping this story won’t turn into an advertorial, but I fear it might.
Last episode. Whew! No. A fine and fitting conclusion. The ML shows that he can man up when necessary. And everyone gets what they deserve, although we, the viewers, need to hear the moral driven home yet again.
P.S. Special shout out to the villains, who never get the appreciation they deserve, especially: Jing Chao (so hard to hate), and Zhang Yi, who looks like he would be lots of fun in real life.

Beautiful Leads with Good Acting Chops in a Predictable yet Well executed Plot
I loved Zhu Zhu in "Why is he Still Single" and I think she is both beautiful and a competent actress. I have only tried watching one show by Wallace Chung, which was "Second Chance Romance" a show that was actually boring despite a predictable plot and one i dropped after ep 1. But I had liked him in Street Dance of China S3 and he felt real there. As a show "The Epoch of Miyu" seems to have a relatively predictable arc (esp going by the synopsis on MDL) but ep 1 was good--lead actors are good looking (Zhu Zhu looks radiant in the opening shot) and Wallace Chung looks natural. Even in ep 1 the two leads seem to have a good rapport. The production looks good.
I am looking forward to the other episodes (as it is a 38 episode show) and I hope it can maintain the tempo of the opening episode.
The show esp towards end of ep 1 gave a slice of life vibe though again I think its too early to predict things. The art direction & set design are wonderful. The direction is excellent.
And yet, I will definitely suggest people to give this show a shot and watch it for good acting chops and good looking leads.
(update: Ep 12) Till Ep 8/9 i was increasingly frustrated by a near doormat FL and an ML who seems morally ambiguous. However, from Ep 10 onwards the arc of the FL and ML seem to pick up; by the end of Ep 12 we see the ML stepping out of the shadows and asserting his presence as the new GM of the Hotel. The FL too by the end of the episode is shown a mirror when her teammates gossip in her absence, with the highlight being how easy she is as a pushover. Unlike her promotion as a forewoman (that was done by the former GM as he gauged Xu Miyu the FL was connected to the Chairwoman), this time around the bonus she gets is something she rightly deserves and the episode shows that clear.
Here on, I believe there will be an upward curve in the FL's character as she begins to truly find herself. Despite the majorly doormat kind of portrayal of the FL till Ep 10 especially, the show makes it evident how her circumstances had made her so--brought up by a stepfather and a biological mother whose only concern was to please her husband, the FL was made to believe that her 'happy' marriage was the ticket to her repaying the debt of her stepfather and so she had to keep her marriage afloat by keeping her husband happy that would in turn keep her parents and stepsister and his family happy. This people pleasing tendency is already pointed out by ML in the earlier episodes.
(to be continued...)

A Woman Against the Odds and the Epoch She Creates
An epoch generally refers to a specific period of time in history or a person's life that is marked by notable events, changes, or distinct characteristics. And, in this case the way Mi Yu’s life unfolds fits the definition perfectly.Zhu Zhu is great in this show. Pure class. Wallace does what Wallace does best but I think with more of an even hand performance.
Except for the first five episodes, this show kept me watching episode after episode. I felt the initial episodes, despite setting the scene, felt out of place to me. There are some who watched this show and couldn’t relate to Mi Yu’s ongoing challenges. However, the payoff comes each time she triumphs. Even the little victories will bring a smile to your face.
Was this show about a mature romance? Not from my point of view. However, it was a cut above the romantic ideal seen in shows with much younger actors.
I did like Ji Feng. He was a professional and in some ways, Mi Yu’s character didn’t appreciate this aspect. However, her character was part of JiFeng’s softening process. I’m not sure Mi Yu really learnt anything from Ji Feng but I think the penny did drop that empowerment in the workplace is a powerful force regarding its transformation for the better.
Mi Yu’s family were awful, although I had a soft spot for her mum. Her first husband was a real prat and selfish beyond measure. Her nemesis was strong and a worthy adversary. Ji Feng had no family, so this is one element we didn’t have to contend with during our watch.
I liked how we got to see the different aspects of the hotel business in Shanghai. I thought this was very well done and I enjoyed how each aspect of the Puyong Hotel was resurrected by Mi Yu, a true powerhouse backed by Ji Feng as GM of the hotel.
I did pick up the tiniest of continuity errors - when Ji Feng was using a fork with his take out meal in his office. I thought the jazz musician storyline was a bit daggy but it did provide a different flavour to the show. The office politics was a little much but our OTP were just too good.
The final episode was okay. In some ways a solid Korean ending. Perhaps more of a Chinese opera type conclusion but without any deaths! I think we really needed two episodes to wrap up what was, a terrific story. Show is worth a look.

A Slow burn but worth it....
I wasn't sure how I felt about this in the beginning, but I liked how the FL,decided to stand up for herself, and divorced her cheating husband. even though she knew how hard things were going to be, after 10 years of only catering to him, and never getting any thanks.........she realized she wasted her youth on someone who didn't deserve it, and starts over again, from a low beginning. She then goes on to prove herself worthy to herself. The back story, etc.....is good and the acting ability is excellent. Different from the tired trope of women being rescued by an ML. Also, she is not a young ingenue. Miyu rescues hersef. Was this review helpful to you?
surprisingly interesting
I had to consult a dictionary to find what "epoch" means LOL....Surprisingly, I am enjoying this one. The actors are all new to me. I am not familiar with them, so I don't know how popular they are in China. But I like that they are mature actors who have the experience to deliver more than passable acting.
The storyline itself is nothing new. Office intrigues abound in the workplace and the drama highlights how the FL goes from a full time housewife to joining the working class. In between her struggles, are the problems a hotel encounters in its day to day operations.
While not exceptional, it entertains.....
