Kissable Lips isn’t the kind of drama that leaves you reeling. It doesn’t roar, it doesn’t crescendo — it simply passes through like a quiet sigh in the night, brief but not without consequence. I went in expecting a cute spin on the overdone vampire trope, but instead found myself sitting with something smaller, quieter: a story about loneliness dressed up in fangs and romance.

Kim Ji-woong’s Jun-ho wasn’t your typical vampire archetype — no brooding predator, no gothic seduction. He just looked… tired. Like someone who’d watched the world move on without him a hundred times too many, and was left floating somewhere between regret and resignation. There was no attempt to make vampirism seem glamorous; it felt more like a sentence than a superpower, and that quiet sadness gave the character surprising depth.

Then there was Yoon Seo-bin’s Min-hyun, who showed up like sunlight through an overcast sky — awkward but earnest, bringing that tentative hope that maybe, just maybe, life could be more than just surviving. Their connection wasn’t explosive, but it was sincere, even when the script rushed it. You could feel the unspoken hunger, not just for blood, but for understanding, for warmth, for a hand to hold without fear.

But here’s the catch — just as the emotional threads started to weave together, the show was already tying its final knot. The short run time was a double-edged sword: it kept things lean, but it also clipped the story’s wings before it could really fly. Whole emotional beats felt hinted at rather than explored. Scenes ended before they could dig into the messier, more interesting angles of immortal grief and fleeting human comfort.

There were moments where the dialogue stumbled — a little too on-the-nose, a little too stitched together from genre conventions — but there was enough rawness in the performances to smooth out the rough patches. It was never empty, just... brief. Like reading a beautiful first chapter and realizing there’s no book after it.

I didn’t walk away from Kissable Lips deeply changed, but I did walk away touched — the kind of soft ache that doesn’t demand attention but lingers quietly at the edges. Like a dream you forget as soon as you wake up, only to feel its ghost for the rest of the day.

Not a drama that stays forever. But one that, for a fleeting moment, made loneliness feel a little less lonely.

Would love more supernatural/fantasy bl dramas... just not this one

Summary: A huge letdown, and a genuinely confusing experience for me. There's very little entertainment value either way, it's not even a "so bad it's funny" type, it's just baffling and frustrating because of how much potential it could have had with its premise.


I was quite baffled by how many reviews on Viki were praising this drama for the chemistry and story and sad ending, when all of those points were huge negatives to me.

Fantasy/supernatural concepts, let alone vampires are super underutilized in BL dramas, so I definitely hope more get made... it's just that this one was a massive failure to spearhead that movement.
I'd usually chalk it up to the classic "low budget and definitely not enough episodes", but I don't even know if more episodes would save this one.

Effectively, this is an 80 minute long drama, give or take as some episodes are vastly shorter than others. 80 minutes isn't long of course, but 80 minutes is still a good 80 minutes, and yet this drama fails to tell a compelling story.
It feels like either scenes are to end, or scenes are lingering far too long for anything substantial to happen in them.

World-building simply does not happen, which is a HUGE letdown for a fantasy drama, especially one dealing with something as wrought with potential as vampires. But instead, nothing is ever explained or expanded on.
What it means to be pureblood, why our lead is a pureblood, how society sees vampires if they are well-known enough that the lead's brother knows of them but not our lead, etc. etc.
Again, I'd chalk this one up to not having enough runtime to be able to expand, but I also believe that just one single episode dedicated to even SLIGHTLY expanding on the vampires at all could have done at least SOMETHING for this paper-thin plot.

Side characters are tossed to the side, giving basically all of them absolutely zero agency in the story.
Multiple characters are never addressed by name until the last second, or not at all, so I didn't retain any of them.
Characters come to serve their role, and then just disappear. The lead's brother is there solely to point out to him that the vampire is a vampire, and then promptly disappears for the rest of the show despite being established to be breathing down his brother's neck in the first 2 episodes.
The vampire's... mother? guide? it is literally never explained who she is to him aside from just someone he goes to occasionally and knows that he's a vampire (or I suppose if it WAS explained, I did not retain that information) also promptly disappears as fast as the vampire's friend, despite how desperate she seemed to keep the vampire alive.
The vampire friend is supposed to be seen as antagonistic and maybe even a threat and yet he never actually DOES anything to warrant that, just wanders to and fro between the lead and the vampire lead.

The chemistry that I keep seeing people praising elsewhere between the leads is basically nonexistent to me. They meet, begin to work on a project together, and suddenly are soulmates. The timeline is seriously twisted, because it feels like it all happens over the course of a week or so; So how did we go from the leads' meeting for the first time for their project to one of the leads putting a ring on the other's finger?
I think the chemistry is good in a vacuum in the final few episodes, but in the context of the drama, completely falls apart because of the sheer /lack/ of chemistry in any of the earlier episodes.

To give the drama credit where credit is due, we get a very GOOD kiss scene, which are often hard to come by in BLs, and even potentially the insinuation of a sex scene, which is even harder to come by in BLs.
The actors play their roles as much as they can, but the dialogue is so cheesy at times and the scenes are directed so strangely that a lot of the time, I find it hard to take seriously. Emotion is either very stiff or overacted, but I'd say the acting is the least bad part of this drama.

though the ending was not really good.....like yk the guy just dies at the end because he didn't want to drink choi's blood for the fear of hurting him...but mannnn Choi coul have used something to make a tiny cut on his finger then he could have offered his blood to junho this way junho wouldn't actually harm him right...but no Choi didn't do that i mean if it were me i would have at least tried something....but still I didn't like the ending but it's not like it was not suitable...I'm giving this a 9 but not because of the ending but because I think that everything was a little fast paced....like it it was not so fast paced i definitely would've given it a 10..

i don't even have thoughts. it was nothing. the storyline was nonexistent, and the ending was such a flop. it's not even that it was so bad; it was so nothing and so boring. technically, there was the idea of a plot, and i do love vampires, but it was not well executed. you guys knew each other for less than a week, calm down.

also, the styling was so flop. this came out in 2022, and the styling was giving 2016. woof. fun to see pre-boys planet jiwoong. sure. i literally have nothing else to say about this. honk shoo mimimi

How did they even get freaky if he can’t see? Genuine question. Uh, anyway, this show was okay, and the ending was mid but more of a lesson learned kind of thing. Yeah, I would give it a 7.5 (8.06) out of 10. Now I am going to say what I liked, what I didn’t, and then an episode overview.

Kim Ji Woong might be one of the SEXIEST MEN TO EVER WALK THE PLANET. He is such a joy to look at and such an acquired beauty. Both of them are good actors, and they have decent chemistry for what this is. The show is OKAY, I will give them that. Like, it's not bad, but it's also not the best thing I have ever seen. I think the plot is interesting, but it did fall short in some parts. Uh, yeah, I don't know, something about this show was addicting. I liked the brother, and I don't know why. The guy that Kim Ji Woong killed first, I liked that point line, that was fun. I think the setup was good. Uh, yeah, that is it.

What the fuck does dispiate mean? Like we just turn to fucking ash, like what the hell? That whole plot was bullshit. Also, WE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO WRITE ROMANCE PLOTS AND ROMANCE BUILDING. Like we were doing well for a bit, and then it went all the way downhill. Irrelevant ass side character, every last one of them, besides the brother, shut your dumb ass up, you guys are making me mad. The mom, or whatever the lady was, suck up everything, just made the plot go further backwards. INTRODUCED THAT GUY AND THEN JUST CHOKED HIM OUT AND KILLED HIM. BITCH WHO EVEN WAS THAT? SHUT UPPPPP. Yeah, also the plot kind fell off at the end, and I don't hate the ending, I think it is kind of mid, but mid leaning more towards bad. I am fine with him dying at the end, but I wish they had done that a little better. Like, oh no, he went up to the rooftop and then just fucking disintegrated. I feel like we could have written that out better. AND FINALLY, the whole thing with him going blind. He was blind the entire show, but the writers lowkey forgot about that because he was doing way too much considering he can't see lmao. Only at the end was it relevant, and even then, he still got to the top of the roof unscathed, but he can't pick up a stupid fucking ring. Uh, that's it.
