Good Start, but it Just Shattered

The Furthest Distance is a drama which tries to convey that in the world between life and death, neither is separated from each other but love is still a constant.

Qin Yun Sheng (ML – Leon Zhang) is an emergency doctor, who has a glass house that needs to be renovated and Su Ying was the initial interior designer. They meet again because of their participation in a house renovation reality tv show. Feelings gradually begin, especially for Su Ying and her once closed heart opens up to Qin Yun Sheng. But was he still missing his girlfriend, Mi Su that had passed away? How could Su Ying bridge the seemingly furthest distance between them.

Yes, an exciting love story which I felt was giving us a second chance of love. Such high hopes especially after Qin Yun Sheng's love confession to Su Ying in episode 10, my heart just melted.

The confession:
Qin Yun Sheng: “Su Ying. Maybe I’m not good with words. I don’t know how to confess to you. I’ve thought of many ways. But when I am looking at your eyes, my mind is blank. I couldn’t say any love words. I just know. I want to see you. I want to see you every day. In these days with you, I always say thank you. But what I want to say the most now is--I like you. I like you more day by day. It’s not love words. It’s from the heart. Even though the world has given me a lot of pain, I’m not afraid. If it’s you, I will muster the courage. I want to make our future days a bit more romantic. Will you join me?”

To see the romance between them after Qin Yun Sheng's confession was magical. They were so in love. You enjoyed watching the shy doctor come out of his shell and openly show his affection of Su Ying. He showed her so much love that he felt he wasn't able to express in words but deeds. He did everything to captivate her. Letting her know she was his beginning and end. He wanted nothing more. They felt it was time to tell their friends and colleagues who were elated to finally see this "perfectly match couple" post a picture of themselves in their Moments page with the caption – “Love is a happy thing.” One person who was not happy about this love--Yang Zheng Wen. After seeing this post, he began his all-out campaign to win Su Ying back.

Yang Zheng Wen was Su Ying’s ex-boyfriend who now was the GM of Tiandi Building Materials Corporation. Seeing the interaction of Yang Zheng Wen gave Qin Yun Sheng the courage to finally put his feelings in the forefront with Su Ying hence his confession. But happiness was short-lived because we had to add another piece to this love story so enters the identical twin sister of Mi Su—Mi Bai. Yes, Qin Yun Sheng’s ex-girlfriend who died had an identical twin sister. Not only that, but she also studied cardiology and out of all the hospitals she ended up in the same one as Qin Yun Sheng as a medical director.

Of course, we had to have the infiltrator, to help both the ex-boyfriend and twin sister so we have Tian Mei who quit her previous design firm and began working at Su Ying’s firm. Su Ying thought she was sincere in working for her and made her feel like family just like her other employees. But ambition got the better of her and Yang Zheng Wen “whispering in her ear” that he would give her, her own design firm didn't help but made her become Su Ying's enemy.

We began to see the cracks of the relationship with the endlessly onslaught of tricks played by the trio of Yang Zheng Wen, Mi Bai and Tian Mei. They went from trying to destroy the glass house, changing dates of events, posting malicious email about the firm, changing materials for client's jobs and finally learning that Mi Su's confession under the rainbow was actually Mi Bai.

Everything finally shattered when Su Ying's mother was put in the hospital due to an aneurysm and Qin Yun Sheng knew and didn't tell her. That led to her breaking up with him. Which then open the door for both Yang Zheng Wen and Mi Bai to step in and get the partner they had sought for so long. But what they didn't understand, even if they did break up, they were not going back to either of them.

Su Ying's mother did recover and told her that she misunderstood Qin Yun Sheng, but it was too late, he had made the decision to go abroad for three years. This caught Su Ying off guard, and she never relented to tell him that she wanted him to stay. He left...or did he?

Qin Yun Sheng felt in order to solidify their relationship he had to make Su Ying admit her feelings to not only to him but to herself that she wanted, needed and loved him. Everyone was in on the deception of Qin Yun Sheng not leaving. It all came out when Su Ying went to the glass house. Qin Yun Sheng went to the glass house as well because he could no longer deceive her at this point, he felt he was hurting her. Love was restored between the couple. The glass house was donated for rehabilitation patients.

Qin Yun Sheng went to other countries to volunteer but Su Ying never left his side and traveled with him.

Xu Ming Shi who was the right-hand of Su Ying at the design firm and Du Hui Xuan who was Su Ying's best friend finally got together as a couple.

Mi Bai finally gave up on Qin Yun Sheng and went abroad to work.

Tian Mei did eventually get her design firm and gave kudos to Su Ying for keeping her truthfully to the craft of design.

In all hindsight, I felt we should have been seeing more of how Qin Yun Sheng and Su Ying did come the farthest distance to get to the love that we all seek, not led down a rabbit hole of cliches especially using an ex-boyfriend and an identical twin. Such a great opportunity that I believe was missed. They shattered a beautiful love story of a second chance of love.

Troupe storyline with annoying side character...

First of all this is your troupe storyline where the male lead's ex gf died of heart failure. I honestly thought it was going to take the male lead a long time to love again. I'm glad it want too long , it was about ep 6 , where he realized he likes the female lead. The female lead is oozing with beautiful, gorgeousness, she literally is oozing with confidence and sexiness. All of the clothes she wears suits her so well and they make her stand out. I like the female lead because she is smart, tough and brave.

I really disliked the evil sister, annoying ex boyfriend, and betraying staff. Their actions made my blood boil and my heart racing lol. If they didnt have those scenes , this drama would off been a 8.

I like the occupation of the female lead and how she helps people to design houses. The male lead character to be honest is a little weak .. He couldnt even say what his feelings where to the female lead. His parts of the drama was actually quite boring. All of the obstacles and struggles fell to the female lead.

Also not enough romance. I feel like the leads have decent chemistry but not too many kissing scenes.

While others don't like the side character romance, i quite enjoy their storyline.

So far I'm liking this one

First Impressions as of ep 15, I'm enjoying the romance, the story build-up, and the chemistry of the two leads so far. also there's a piece of comedy so it's not boring.....Nothing feels too rushed or too forced when it comes to the romance...... And it is more female-centric to Su Ying's character and her career vs focusing on Qin Yunsheng, which is a little bit more refreshing as it does not focus on the heavy medical aspect....but don't get me wrong haha I like medical stuff too but sometimes it's one of the reasons for some dramas that includes medical stuff to be a bit draggy.......I know Zhong Chu Xi has another drama that just came out with Gong Jun, so I'm curious to see how her chemistry is with him. maybe I'll start watching that one later haha but definitely hope this one continues to be good till the end......

Feel good drama

If you want a lighter drama that has didn’t drag much, this is a good one. I haven’t see the FL in anything before and only seen the ML in supporting roles. I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked watching them and felt they portrayed their characters well. Their relationship was natural and I didn’t have any awkward moments watching them.

The second couple had a decent plot too which I appreciated.

I do have to say that you will never meet more understanding people as the ML and FL characters. Wow. Their relationship was going so smoothly and the (inevitable) falling out was seamless. A perfect example of how there are consequences even if the intentions are pure.

Would I reccommend if anyone asks? yes.
Would I watch again? nah.

This series would've been better if they didn't have the same kind of stories about ex, twin siblings, misunderstandings & all. Why do in every modern C-Drama they have to add misunderstanding & ex, it's damn annoying.

I liked all the actors' acting, not mind-blowing or over-top kind but decent enough to watch.

Su Ying is a kind-hearted designer who always thinks about others' feelings about hers & is also a workaholic. This is my first time seeing Elaine Zhong. She did good.

Qin Yun Sheng is a cardiology doctor but, because of his past, he switches to the emergency department. I watched Leon Zhang performance before in Ancient Love Poetry, although I have watched only the last 10 episodes of Ancient Love Poetry. He also gave a good performance. I liked his shy smile.

I hated Yang Zheng Wen throughout the series. I liked the actor Zhang Tao in Nothing but You so much, but here I hated him.

Tian Mei is an annoying character. She is selfish, naive and only thinks about her own benefit. Tian Yi Tong character was also annoying in Lie to Love.

Su Ying relationship with Xu Ming Shi, Cao Xiao Ye, Cai Chen was something I enjoyed watching and her friendship with Du Hui Xuan.

Du Hui Xuan & Qin Yun Sheng have a really understanding relationship. They trust each other. But in the end, the writer ruined it with that stupid misunderstanding.

There was something missing, maybe more scenes between the main couple would have been better.

Tire of these storylines.. ?

Here you go… your typical drama where exes return and cause chaos. Don’t these writers get it? It’s 2023.. we want better scripts!!

Started off really well, production is good, actors are good, the first 11 episodes were good. Beautiful storyline where the ML loses his girlfriend 6 years ago, and finally opens up his heart to FL and love again. Then when they introduce the Ex- boyfriend, and how he’s scheming to interfere with not only her personal new relationship with a very charming doctor, he also manipulated her work professionally, being rich and CEO of the company that hires her. Sheesh.. if I were her I wouldn’t take the job. I knew then that this storyline would just go down the drain

So I look to the comments section and true enough, many MANY unhappy viewers. Guess I’m dropping this guys. Too bad :(

A big cliche

"I don't know what kind of review to give for this drama because I didn't feel anything special while watching it. It's about a doctor whose girlfriend was about to die, so he built a glass house to fulfill her dream. When his girlfriend died, he would go to that glass house whenever he missed her, and then he realized that there was some fault in it and he called the person who built that house, who was a girl. Then they both spent a lot of time together and fell in love with each other. After that, the story follows the cliche of jealousy, then the doctor not going to abroad for further studies because of his girlfriend so everyone blamed her and their further distance .

formula romance with good performance from Elaine Zhong

I get very skeptical watching C-dramas involving hospitals. It's rather jarring to see rich patients pay for what amounts to hotel service, in a hospital. Or getting an IV drip for a cold. Or getting an invasive diagnostic procedure just because. Or blatant violations of informed consent. Anyway, I now try to put all these things aside and try to enjoy the show.

Qin YunSheng, a young but soon to be widowed cardiothoracic surgeon, commisions a glass house on the beach from up-and-coming designer, Su Ying. The house is an oceanside refuge for YunSheng and his terminally ill fiancee to spend her last days. However, the controversial glass design proves unstable in build and, 6 years after his fiancee's passing, YunSheng and Ying are re-united in a bid to fix the deteriorating structure.

The show then follows the developing relationship between the grieving doctor and the designer who helps him fulfill his deceased fiancee's final bucket list wish, and move onto a new start for himself. The story progresses rather smoothly (and blandly) without any serious challenge until Ep16 when personal and professional issues come to a nasty mix. Then we get trope stew with sabatoging ex's (including an ex you didn't know you had), backstabbing colleagues, and misunderstandings piled on so thick you're actually glad to see the formulaic break up scene. Never was a ML given a more satisfying lambasting.

By the usual separation scene, however, I found myself more sympathetic to the characters and I realized this was due to the subtle and consistent performance of Elaine Zhong as Su Ying. Writing-wise, it was nice to have female characters that don't speak with high pitched baby voices, are assertive at work, and who get food delivered to their office desk by the boyfriend instead of the other way around. Ying is also surrounded by her competent staff working perfectly in sync. Even though the show barely passes the Bechdel test with some of the office scenes, Ying pulls through that final crushing mess with a quiet strength that doesn't waver.

A major attraction of the show for me was the tropical paradise backdrop of Haikou City on Hainan Island. Bright sandy beaches, winding seaside highways, beautiful modern view apartments and all the ammenities of a modern city, all to the tune of a catchy cha-cha-cha theme song. I kept watching just for the scenery and lifestyle. Although the actual location of the story was kept fictional, there were frequent shots of the landmark Haikou Century Bridge. I just Google image searched; please correct me in the comments if I'm wrong.

This show is otherwise a mildly dramatic romance with gorgeous scenic views, ending with the signature house that started it all. A nice fluff piece if you don't get too annoyed with the tropes.

Predictable RomCom with good acting from Elaine Zhong (FL).

"The Furthest Distance" is a rom-com between a designer and a doctor.

Elaine Zhong has had a good year with three decent modern dramas.
- Imperfect Victim, where she played a supporting role.
- The Furthest Distance
- Rising with the Wind
She is a good actress who can play silly yet career-oriented women. She has range as an actress, and her onscreen chemistry is not bad with Leon Zhang. In my opinion, she is a better actor than Leon Zhang. The character he played in this drama is a bit weak but nice.

Their relationship is being sabotaged by her ex-boyfriend, played by Zhang Tao, and his deceased girlfriend's twin sister, Mi Su, played by Sabrina Chen. The supporting cast is cute and funny, especially her best friend Du Hui Xuan, played by Li Xi Rui, who is clueless about love.

I am giving it a 7.5 rating because the plot is nothing special, but the acting is good, only from Elaine Zhong, whereas the rest of the cast was mediocre, including the ML, Leon Zhang. The drama is predictable, and the ending is okay. I would expect them to get married, but it didn't happen. It is implied.

Just not for me

This storyline for me just seemed a bit childish even though it's executed by bunch of mature actors.....

Wasn't feeling it, gave it chances.....
I dropped Lighter and Princess few times then Eden Zhao stole the show and watched the entire drama. I just don't see any Eden Zhao in this drama for me coming to the rescue....

Not feeling it from the male or female lead....

I have seen plenty that are enjoying the drama. If you are one please continue to watch & enjoy the drama....

I feel Chinese drama are doing the same concepts over & over & over again.... This has the taste of familiarity about it.... This is a kind of drama to watch if you are fan of the cast or the leads.... Even will my own favourites I need force myself at times....
