Immortal Samsara: Part 1 (2022)

Not very good, but still watchable

This review is about part 1 only.

This drama was a typical xianxia drama, with the quiet sacrifices of the main leads, love-you-but-cannot-be-with-you angsts, heartbreaking scenes and lifetimes of love.

I had always liked watching this genre and had watched numerous of them, so tropes and clichés were not surprising to me.

Yang Zi’s and Cheng Yi’s acting definitely brought the drama to a higher level. Yang Zi was as always playing the bubbly role and Cheng Yi was as always spitting lots of blood, but they played their roles well and that to me was enough.

I think this drama had beautiful natural sceneries. I was always in awe of the natural surroundings, so much so that I would sometimes even focused more on their surroundings than the characters themselves and I think the director really knew how to capture the correct angles to portray the most beautiful scenes. As for cinematography, many people commented that it was bad, but I had no negative comments about it, it was ok to me.

What I did not quite like about the drama, a little nitpicking included:

1. I did not shed tears nor feel particularly touched by the love of the leading couple when they were in the immortal realm in the first 20 episodes. I was just too used to the tropes and clichés in this genre that there was nothing surprising, but more importantly than being too used, I felt that their passion for each other was shown too early in the drama, without a strong built-up. Not that I like slow-burn romance, but I would feel more for a couple if they had gone through some life-and-death situations together or done at least something worthy for each other and then circumstances caused them to separate, etc., but in this, they realized they liked each other and then in a short span of time, they were willing to make huge sacrifices for each other to the extent of giving half a heart to the other. It was hundreds of years in the drama, but in reality, it was a mere few episodes that viewers saw the transition which was just too short and nothing of significance that had happened for me to feel for the couple.

2. Many a time, I felt that the immortals in the heavenly realm did not behave like immortals in this drama. They were supposed to be immortals who had lived thousands of years with magical powers, so they should not have to sleep or cook or eat egg fried rice, or use a broom to sweep the ground, at least that was what I imagined. I would think that even a junior immortal like Yan Dan (Yang Zi) would be able to execute a little magic to sweep away the dried leaves or whatever in the yard without actually needing to use a broom. And, the heavenly realm had day and night when immortals had to sleep. It felt a little weird and unconvincing. I recalled in the drama Ten Miles of Peach Blossom, there was no day or night in the heavenly realm and this sounded more 'logical'. I know such things sound rather trivial, but heavenly realm is a place unique in a historical fantasy drama, so I would appreciate some meticulous details to have been thought of when creating such a realm by the scriptwriters.

3. I did not quite enjoy the mortal realm, starting from around episode 22 onwards. The two leads lost their memories and just when they met each other and me hoping that soon they would recall each other slowly, they went around together with Yu Mo (Ray Chang) looking for and collecting the magical artefacts to cure Tang Zhou (Cheng Yi)’s heart issue, but this looking around took such a long time that it started to get boring, new faces kept appearing, new information, new things totally unrelated to the original xianxia angst kept appearing in new episodes and leading to nowhere. All these from about episode 25 to episode 38.

4. This is trivial, but I just have to mention because it was so obvious. She was supposed to be a princess, but the hair decorations worn by her, a princess of the Eastern Sea, Zhao Lan, looked glaringly cheap. They looked like some hair decorations one would find in a marketplace or a thrift store...

I have to mention OST because they are so crucial in a xianxia drama to build up the emotions. Fortunately, 偏星 (Partial Star) sung by 张靓颖 (Jane Zhang) is sweet and romantic for me to keep listening to this song. The rest were simply forgettable.

All in all, I would not say that this part 1 of immortal samsara was very good, I do not see it as 'THE xianxia drama of 2022', but it was still watchable partly because I like watching this genre, enjoy all the angst and heartbreaks of this genre, though I do not think I would re-watch this, like what I have done for some xianxia dramas.

I LOVE IT

Okay initially I was excited for this but had no high hopes and I was right they rlly did my girl yang zi dirty in order to give the other casts some limelight but one thing that was more annoying is that lamp thats stupid lamp who had more screen time than the support. Anyways if ur a fan of chengyi don't worry he did exceptional here and although this is just the first season i'm gonna say I'm satisfied with the story as I loved the heavenly realm and mortal realm. One disapointment is that the leads don't have much intimate scnes and even if they did IT WAS A DREAM. damn they had like 6 dreams at this point. I'm not rlly looking forward to part 2's focus on Chengyi's other love story which is kinda pistaking since why would u make it the same actor like it just ruins the vibe? If you rlly wanted to show chengyis versatility then u didn't have to create a love story for him coz impov it looks like the hes cheating on yan dan lol. And plz yand dan and ying yuan already has less romance scenes and ur gonna introduce another whole storyline in part 2 forgetting all abt yan dan to show him with another woman. That is messed up although I must admit he is hot. I'm giving it a 10 for my girl yang zi tbh and the ml is hot. I repeat hot. Anyways don't trust my review 100% since I'm biased specifically for this drama.?

For me, actors and their acting are important. and so 5 years ago I tried to watch a Chinese drama but it was a bad experience. then years passed and their production improved. and I have appeared two favorite actor cheng yi and liu yuning ❤❤Cheng Yi plays too well. he played well before, but this is a completely different level. this guy plays with facial expressions and eyes, he simply masterfully controls his body. he is one of the best Asian actors for me. his acting gets better and better with every new drama. he surprises me. he plays on the edge of emotion. and yes i recommend it to everyone IMMORTAL SAMSARA . Even surpaases Ashes of love in terms of plot. This show has totally blown my mind !❣️

Usually I dont like shows with such length. But Thank God I watched it and my time was totally, totally worth for it.

Although you may find 8th to 14th episodes a bit draggy but trust me first 15 episodes are the foundation of the future events and are crucial for the upcoming episodes.

And once they come in Mortal realm you will watch the episodes by replaying it again and again. Such is the storyline, execution, cinematography, casting , their sizzling chemistry and superb acting.

Talking about cast :-
• Cheng Yi - Oh his eyes do all the talking. He has perfectly act 3 different roles in this very single show. And I am totally in love with these 3 different characters.
• Yang Zhi - She is fabulous, charming, adorable, pretty, smart, bold, funny, great actress as always. She is like life of the show. She balances the seriousness of this show with her charms.

Story:-
As the name says it all, Immortal life's tragic love story. Their story holds you even though sometimes it is painfull to watch. But not that painfull that you wanna drop it instead you long for more. That kind of show is this.

Worth watching. You'll binge watch it for sure. If you enjoyed watching other xianxia cdramas like ashes of love or love and redemption. You will enjoy this too. Plus, I love the main leads. They're perfect for the role! and also the voice acting is also very good.

I'm currently watching the part 2 of immortal samsara and I still love it. I'm watching it on VIU app because I have existing subscription there. You can also watch it on Youku app. Both apps have english subtitles.

I don't understand why netizens or citizens who watched rated this low. This fantasy was great. It's everything that I hoped for watching Yangzi and Cheng Yi play the main leads in this Chinese Drama. Y'all are afraid to give it a rating of 10. I'm not. If you were dissatisfied with the Chinese Drama because of the last episode, you should know there is a Part 2. Yangzi with her perky self played this character phenomenally great. Yangzi and Ren Jialun are two of my top actor and actress. I loved Yangzi in Ashes of Love and she has continued to be that actress I look for in dramas. Cheng Yi also played his part with excellence, he is everything. I advise all those who rated this less than 10 to go back and rewatch it again after you see part 2. I applaud all the other actors/actresses in this drama. The costumes, martial arts, fantasy, all of it is the type of fantasy I love to watch.

Sorry everyone, I apologize, I must have Allen Ren or Ren Jialun on my brain. I love them both what can I say.

So I wanna begin with the story line. The story is honestly poorly constructed, love is forbidden in the heaven realm, and no one is supposed to fall in love, however the whole point of this show is for the for two main leads to fall in love. Like that’s kinda messed up, and it’s usually things like “love is forbidden between immortals and demons” or “love is forbidden between immortals and humans” but in all fantasy shows I’ve seen this is the first show to have this such strange rule. Like if love isn’t allowed in the heavens then where did all of these immortals come from.

The story line doesn’t get any better after they forget their memories. When they go into the mortal world, all of a sudden Yan Dan is considered a “flower demon”, like no, she’s was once a part of the heaven realm and now all of a sudden she’s a demon. And why didn’t she reborn, like she literally just fell from the sky, she was never a baby and she had all her powers.

The only good thing about this show is costuming, and the cast. Obviously people watch it for Yang Zi and Cheng Yi (that’s why I’m here). Honestly not really worth your time.

the drama scene looks like combining eternal love, ash of love, love and redemption scene, but has a slightly different story,, jump and blind like eternal love, tragic love and punishment like ash of love, forbiden love like love and redemption

The first 18 episodes were very boring for me, I liked when they went to the mortal realm(around eps 18)
actually the story is good too bad, the acting is actually quite good,but the editing make me speechless

The storyline is very weird messy, it makes me keep thinking, why is it like this, so I can't focus on watching, what's the point of watching drama if you don't understand the story? and give high rating just because a little romance?

can only be accepted if you are a beginner watcher ,i already watch alot of drama like this and more focus with the details
the story of lead CP is one of them accepts one of them refuses continuously kike that until the end of the story.
I enjoy the friendship of yumo, yandan and yinyuan,
yumo at the beginning looks very nerd, but I like the character, love but not force, envy but not hate

and for the another support CP, i like them too,,but their acting and story still looks very newbie, it's good enough


I am very impressed with the directors and editors, they destroy people's work, the edits are very obvious reversed in the scene,, inconsistent in the use of words in each dialogue, loopholes everywhere,,I AM VERY SURE THE EDITOR IS VERY SLEEPY WHEN EDITING OR NOT INTENTION

the story is boring at the beginning, a lot of new things keep popping up plus the editing are very messy, it seems that all things happen suddenly for no clear reason,, even they explain it later about heaven demon war, but the story sequence is very messy, and not only that,, Inconsistent dialogue or mispronunciation but the director was not aware when shooting, and inconsistent scenes ,, are they not briefing before shooting ?
I want to pretend I didn't see it but to much,
I don't know how many times I sighed and wanted to drop this drama, BECAUSE THE LOOPHOLE IS SO OBVIOUS!

1. Sixuan, her betrayal story is only short story,but in my opinion the sequence of scenes is very chaotic, its better if she appeared first and then gave the scene she betrayed, but its not! and it seems that Yinyuan has a relationship with Sixuan but it's not clear what.

2. ‎the effect of skill not match with the action they do, and sometimes dont understand what they do for

3. ‎the demin and heaven war part, really really mess, the story sequence should not be like that, although it will be explained later, it's still unacceptable,, war begin shuddenly, end shuddenly

4. ‎ep 26, tang zhou's master left two objects, the hairpin and magic weapon, that magic weapon is one of the 7 magic tools to be burned when yandan pretends zhixi to catch the traitor which should have been burned

5. ‎i know yumo know about ziling identity,but i shocked when yandan know about it too, when? they both not look well from the first.
when ep 21,, 5:21 , i think yandan already know the real body of ziling,,,but why 23:11 she look like she didnt know about that and joking him just a little turtle

7. ‎ep 22, heaven emperor said to make yinyuan easier to investigate the case, he will have all his memories, but when reincarnated to mortal, luming said yinyuan celestial power and memory will be seal by celestial armor, but in ep 47, they said again that the memory that should be kept is manipulated by someone

8. ‎ep 33,,when attacked by shengde,, yandan said "quick, i can't hold it anymore" but they havent told tang zhou to eat the pills zhao yan gave first,, i think the scene was reversed, i was confused why suddenly told to be hurry, what action to do ?apparently told him to eat the pill

9. ep 56,, what?!I'm sure this is wrong,, isnt the 3 神器 (celestial artifacts) already stolen by the mastermind? the editing show yinyuan healing with 3 stolen artifacts and its go in to his body again,but the remaining artifact (dizhi) they have not in there,,
proved by ep 57,, 10:39 the stolen 3 celestial artifacts come out from MASTERMIND body, and yandan get it back the 3 artifacts



?(2) PRETENDING STUPID AND USELESS ACTION
1. yandan go to ask luming to help her find a book that can help her practice to protect herself from yinyuan, luming said all the book in yanxu palace, and her dont want to borrow with yinyuan but all the book is her punishment and she can access all the book

2. ‎ep 6, Yandan was punished for writing heaven's rules with a very heavy pen, she lifted up very hard, she but could laying sleep by biting the pen, isnt it pinched?

3. ‎ep 11, yinyuan craving a lotus burning pot to yandan, but yandan She didn't realize he knew who she was

4. ‎ep 12, yumo can check Yandan's lotus heart only half, but yinyuan can't?, even though he has no doubt that it wasn't zhixi who helped him, and he believes she was yandan, but he didn't prove it by checking directly ,even he has that ability to check

5. ‎ep 16, 14:30 ,when zhixi see yandan stuff, the blue bottle she gave her,, how can the note at the bottle? ,ep 13 11:09 the brokenheart yandan already keep the bottle with the others one in the locker, do you think her mood at that time still in the mood to write that note?

10. ‎ are all who reincarnated from "yewangchuan" not born from zero? yandan just lose her memories, does it make sense? many souls are reincarnated through yewangchuan, if all of them go down to mortal realm in adult form wouldn't it be very strange?even though yandan was forcibly passed down but the main reason she cant reincarnation is because she can't forget her memories,she should be born from zero.
ok, lets talk about the other route, from the heaven portal, yingdeng and yinyuan seem like reincarnation from the zero, from child,, but yinyuan betrayer servant go down in adult form?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?

12. THE LAST AND IMPORTANT ONE,, IF 2 SPECIAL EPISODE IS THE ENDING, TO FORCING, WHY? PRIMODIAL LORD,RANQING ,SACRIFICE HER PRIMODIAL SPIRIT TO MAKE A SHIELD BETWEEN DEMON AND HEAVEN REALM ,, IF YINYUAN CAN BE REVIVE SO RANQING CAN BE REVIVE TO EVEN IF THEY SAID STILL HAS A LITTLE SOUL SPIRIT LEFT LIKE THE HEAVEN EMPEROR ,,, IF YANDAN CAN BE REVIVE TOO ,SO ZHIXI NO NEED TO GIVE YANDAN HER HALF OF HEART.

1. ep1 yingdeng said her real body is dizun (emperor) (帝尊) lamp wick, ep 4 he said that he used to be a subordinate of dijun, and also the lamp wick on his desk,and this is the true,,, ,wrong word

2. ‎ep 5,, female servant said her age is young but she can write the stoey "war of genesis(创世之战）"then yinyuandijun reply"是她写的创世之战"（she is who write the story war of genesis?）， but he asked to see the script,,if he said like that i think he is know about that story script first and ask someone to find the writer,if from beginning he dont know about the story he should said "她写的是创世之战？"(she wrote about war of genesis?)

3. ‎yandan when find out yumo is the black fish, she said apparently you're the fish i raised for 800 years,, what? didn't yandan just become human form for 500 years? and worked for beiming for 200 years?since the beginning the black fish lived in the pond of beiming place for long time ago when the war of genesis

4. ep8 ‎funeral of the dijuns, said wrong name ,ep 7 when war the emperor said wanyue,, but when funeral the announcer said wanyun ,the right one is wanyun

5. ‎ep 16,, 26:56 when yumo cut his horn,, zhaolan read the book, she said "剜角之人灵力盡散而亡" but the book clearly write ""剜角之人'多有'灵力盡散而亡" obviously just memorize the script, she can just read the book

6. ‎ep35,,37:41,, yandan said this place is the place to find memories that the old woman(老夫人）said? the right one is 老人(the GUY who save liuweiyang),,, im wondering which old woman told to them about memories ???

1. is there no different time of between mortal realm and the heaven realm? ep 18 the narrator said ‎"花界一日凡间数年，3界重分之后，人妖共存一界" ,if they in one realm why can flower clan 1 day human view years? they are in same realm! ,,so if the flower spirit and human in one frame so how many days go? 1 days or few years? ,but when yinyuan go back to heaven it seems no there is no time difference between heaven and human realm,
and ep 46 zhixi said 20years ago heavenly annouced yinyuan death
which is true？


note : the last 2 special episode maybe just for comfort? i dont know how is the novel but if this 2 sp eps is the ending it not make a sense

Sometimes there were places where I said that was enough. Especially the bad woman ying yeng, the curator. I have never seen such a curator. It was very strange that someone in charge of the exhibits, which we will call the warehouseman, let someone who has a godly power leave what he did not do. Come on, you've finally sent this woman into exile. Mashallah, while the good ones were creeping up, this bad woman again took root in the nation. She kills whoever gets in her way. She is ruining. I especially liked the young actors, especially Yang Zi, Chengi Yi, Ray Chang. I laughed a lot at Marshal Huo. Congratulations to Li Yu. Let's not miss our director together with the actors. I can say that the management was close to perfect. The view is magnificent as always. The ending did not satisfy me a bit, but it was as if they died and were reborn, but found each other again and were happy. Or something similar. It was as if it was left to the imagination of the audience. But I still get the result. It is satisfactory from my point of view. I expect such beautiful series from our directors and producers and new works with such a group of actors.
