It was good but not that good

I just finished the show and tbh comparing to business proposal and what’s wrong with secretary Kim it was my least favorite. It’s good show but not as good as them. Here is the reason:
1- business proposal have a great comedy. With great romance between support characters. Here we have some good comedy in the girls trio but it’s not that good
2- what’s wrong with secretary Kim have very interesting story With a good mystery and plot twist but here the story was not that good to me. The mystery (small spoiler) of the Male lead about their mother is not that interesting, and detailed and everything get solved eventually without not that much of info farming. Just like I talk with him and then I asked him and that was it. Done

But overall it was a good show. Even though it was 16 episodes it didn’t feel dragged at all. The romantic story and the couple is fun to follow. Unfortunately some of the support/background characters really pissed me of and they didn’t get what they really deserved. I would appreciate it more if the show put more focus on other characters relationship and stories

A good rom-com!

A great rom-com after AGES! This is what a rom-com drama should look like. I loved this drama throughout its length!

It was a whole package. Comedy, romance, exaggeration, seriousness all wrapped into one. Man! After the recent short length trend of Kdramas has taken over, sitting through 16 episodes of just romance and comedy of a modern drama has become a bit hard. So I wouldn't say it's because the drama dragged, but I had to pull myself through a few episodes in the middle. But the Thailand trip in episode 10 had the drama going again. That was the best arc among any drama I have recently watched. It was fun and as a Thai drama fan myself, it really felt like two of my favorite worlds have collided. I saw Thailand through the eyes of a tourist for the first time 😂 Also liked the Arab prince arc too. The story also ended on a positive note and as many rom-coms, had a wedding. Ya, it was a good plot.

I would say there were plot problems in the second half though. One was when Ms. Gu asks Sangsik to steal Gu Won's professional and private info. They show the scene and then go off on a lot of other things without telling what happened. For quite sometime, he is not even in the story. The moments he does show up, the effect of making us feel doubtful wasn't good enough. And when the truth is revealed that he hasn't, the question remained as to who actually did leak and how. Another thing is, they left the Dream Team thing as it was. Yes, the pay is high. But the concept of the best employees becoming servants of the rich is just ridiculous. I thought they'd at least show that once Gu Won took over, he got rid of it, but no. The change of Ms. Gu also felt a bit rushed.

Lee Junho as Gu Won and Im Yoona as Cheon Sarang were did a good job. They played their roles really well and I loved how their story unfolded. I loved the pair. There is just something about Kdrama male leads in general - their consistency in relationships that just makes you, as a viewer, feel secure. No drama, no misunderstandings, no trust or loyalty issues. Just an anchoring belief that he is always on her side. Gu Won is yet another perfectly written man! Sarang is also not your damsel in distress. She's capable and resourceful. I loved how she quit her job and didn't settle for the so called dream position everyone loved. I love when female leads can stand on their on feet and lead their life the way they want, no matter how rich and loving the male lead is.

A big highlight of this drama is the friendship. Sarang, Daeul(Kim Gaeun) and Pyeonghwa(Go Wonhee) - wonderful example that trios work. Gu Won and Sangsik's(Ahn Seha) friendship was hilarious too. Together with Rowoon(Kim Jaewon), the entire 6 sibling thing was both heartwarming and comical! I really loved Kim Yeongok as Grandma too. God! That was soo heartwarming too. I loved her character soo much 🥹🥹 She did a wonderful job!

So ya, it was a good drama of its kind and worth the watch. I dropped it once becuase life got busy but I'm grateful I came back. Wouldn't rewatch it; too long and nothing too special that makes you want to come back. Just the typical genre and story done well. In a nutshell, this is a drama with a good story, few plot holes and memorable, loveable characters!

Better late than never, it was fine!

I dropped this series for a while or should I say out it on hold because when it was started it didn't get me excited to wait for the next episode. It gives me laugh and all but the hype for me wasn't there. Don't get me wrong because we have our own preferences.

But I have this drive it me to finish the unfinished businesses. I have a lot of unfinished dramas and tagging it here in MDL as on hold made me wonder why I was afraid to pursue them once again. Slowly I will try starting with this one.

I continued watching it because when I continue where I left I laugh so hard in the episode. I don't know if I was just sad that time but I really laugh a lot. It was fine actually. Not that bad. It gave what it was intended to give.m - the laugh and cuteness.

I like how they did not complicate much the love story just like how intense drama always did. This kind of relaxing drama was needed from time to time. Better late than never!

I wish I never watched it - just so I could watch it again for the first time

Wow, I loved this drama so much! This is such a cute and charming show, filled with the best kind of romantic and cheesy moments.
I personally LOVE this genre. It has that classic, nostalgic K-drama feel, but with a modern, funny, and lighthearted touch that makes it so enjoyable to watch. One of the best parts of the show is the incredible chemistry between the lead actors—it was so natural and captivating.
I binge-watched the entire series in such a short time because I just couldn't stop watching! Highly recommended for anyone who loves romance (especially work romance), comedy, and a good feel-good story.

I genuinely do not understand the hate.

Pple complaining about cliches... It's a romantic comedy. What life-altering plot did you expect to pop out of it? Humans are wild. They claim to want throwback type romance, they get it, they are mad. Hard eye roll. Personally, I liked it.

The ML was such a green flag - very adorable consent king. The FL was also well written. Not overly dramatic and firm in her mind and choices. The couple was also very mature - and I don't mean the 1 million kisses, but in their interaction, communication, conflict management, etc.

What I wish was better was
(1) Eps 15 and esp 16 were boring as hell

(2) The love stories with her friends. I wish we got to see more of the budding romance btw the FLs friend and the younger guy. I think it'd have been really cute. As for the friend with the useless husband, I wish it had been done differently. She ended up looking like a tyrant to her stay-at-home husband. I wish she had
(a) Left him and her terrible in-laws or,
(b) The husband would have been shown enjoying being a stay-at-home husband. basically a role reversal without the subtle misogyny that "utakaliwa kama bibi yako is the breadwinner".

(3) Oh, also, not all family members should be forgiven. The sister was shit. N his mum, it should have taken more conversations

Guilty Pleasure with No Depth of Plot

Ooh this is so long, I'm putting the summary above first.

+ Extremely fluffy guilty pleasure, no malignant problems.
+ No childhood connection, serial killer, white truck, etc.
+ Good comedy.
- Nothing but guilty pleasure, lackluster and lack of depth of the story (so that 16 ep is too long).
- Over-ecsatic romance added to almost every scene.
- A bit unnatural romantic relationship build-up.
- Overly unrealistic makjangs.
- Missed out a lot of small details.
- No closure on several problems from the supporting characters.

This show is nothing but a guilty pleasure. We all expect cheesy mainstream tropes when we watch a Korean rom-coms, but this show takes it to another level. They made almost EVERY scene to be as cheesy as possible, to the point that is cringe. Everything is just cheesy scenes that even it looks like there isn't any main plot, it lacks the depth. The problems are just there to be problems and all can be solved easily. Such a guilty pleasure, but the way they serve it can't make us feel invested to the show. With this issue 12 episodes is already quite painful, and yet they made it 16. The idea of this show is very mainstream, a boss falls for his employee, but the execution isn't even a good job. Why do they name it King The Land when most of the events don't even occur in the hotel?

Character development in this show is a bit questionable. While Gu Won is becoming better person, it's questionable what Cheon Sa Rang is doing. All the time Won has been pulling cringey and pervert-ish moves when he tries to attract Sa Rang, even when they haven't been close enough such as him offering an umbrella under the rain and taking her home, as well as taking her into multiple dinners. I don't understand how could Sa Rang falls over those acts, when there is nothing really impactful happening for a change of feeling. On the other hand, Sa Rang is head over heels to Won and King The Land as well. So I can't understand why she is just alright after being exiled to a small hotel in outskirt town. She lost her lover and her dream job, there isn't any reason why she should stay! This show also features multiple problems caused by uneccessary misunderstandings, and the problems on episode 14 afterwards are just ridiculous. Fortunately the misunderstandings doesn't produce stupid decisions.

The writers focused too much on the cheesy things that they really ignore all the small details. Things are missing out here and there. I still don't understand Sa Rang's dream of working in King Hotel that she got after she visited it during childhood. She describes herself has to live from paycheck to paycheck, so how come she got to visit "the most luxurious hotel in Korea"? Won is very sensitive while talking about his mother. However No Sang Sik who has been living with him for seven years doesn't know this. The mountain rescue is the peak makjang. Won says that Sa Rang is missing and he's unable to track her phone, yet he's calling her all the time until the dusk. Judging by the height of the cliff, it's impossible for someone to survive it without any broken bones. Yet Sa Rang only gets minimal bruises and Won is able to jump over it casually, so two people survive that damn cliff. And if you look more thoroughly, Sa Rang's make up is still on point after being left for a day under the cliff, not even any dust up there. When Won is abroad for three weeks, it looks like they are totally lost contact. However apparently Sa rang sends him a picture of "a hype cafe in the town". The director of the King Guest House is ordered to sell the hotel by Ms. Gu no matter what. How can this happen because Hwa Ran has been kicked from the King Group board of director? The writer also fails to give a proper closure to Oh Pyeong Hwa's career. How come she stays there? Kang Da Eul's reconciliation with her husband is also undeserved. No proper closure on Gu's family too, especially Hwa Ran's.

There are only two good things in this show. First is YoonA, thanks to her performance for bringing smiles and other expression into this show. Second is the consistency of (slapstick-ish) comedy throughout the show, which mostly comes from the character of No Sang Sik. Without these two elements, this show would be straight going to the drop list of most audience. Jun Ho has a really stiff face expressions, but since it fits his character I couldn't complain more. The final episode would be a good sweet episode for any other show. But all the episodes precedenting it make that episode nothing special.

This show is recommended for someone who needs a guilty pleasure, so the rewatch value is high. There aren't any mainstream tropes such as childhood connection, serial killer, or The Mighty White Truck. It's really lightweight, since the storyline really lacks the depth, no malignant plot inside. But I personally wouldn't recommend it.
