The Devil is Hot

Would you ever consider making a deal with the devil? What if it wasn't to save yourself, but someone you loved? I really thought this was going to be a pretty shallow storyline, but about half of the way through i was proven wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed this series. The cast is gorgeous and the costumes and scenery are beautiful. I do feel like they could have gone just a bit further with the series, but I'm also not mad about where it ended.

Should you watch?

If you don't mind plot twists and character development you've seen before then this series will reliably entertain. I noticed borrowed elements from 'Goblin' and 'Doom At Your Service' to name two. The walking out of the fire scene midway through was taken from the American series 'Lucifer'.

The set up was good, but the follow through weak. For example, the main character is a demon, who it was shown must make deals periodically or perish himself. Ok, but then this was dropped and only alluded to much later. The story twists and turns don't make use of this seemingly important initial set up and constraint. What if he had had to make deals with the human present?

The first third of the episodes had more misses than hits. The balance began to shift in the middle third as we see some entertaining traction. The last third worked much better and had me binging the episodes for the next reveal. The ending seems a bit forced leaving ends loose that naturally come to mind. A big one is the female lead's father, who was not evil and made his deal out of desperation to help his wife, and yet he ends up in hell suffering eternal damnation. And the female lead expresses no concern or remorse over this inconvenient development. I was expecting something to tie this unfortunate circumstance up given all the other feel good endings we witness.

idylic/classic 'kdrama' twist on a demon, BUT IS IT WORTH WATCHING?

CLICHÉ but still ENJOYABLE....
without spoilers , keep reading to see my thoughts as someone who loves fantastical characters like demons, angels, vampires etc.

its a story of dodo hee who gets entangled with a demon guwon. the suspense, twists and full of drama story of these two also wants to be a fractal or smaller depiction of good/evil in the world (in a figurative way). there are direct references to christianity ( i assume some producers rely on christian concepts while others on buddhism? ) that are very well done! others less ( the God references, but thats my personal opinion)

on top of all of this, we also get historical past lives and let me tell you, its one of the best ones done!! ( and i've seen many cliché impossible love stories with past lives issues!)

i like a drama that gives titles to its episodes that sets the mood and has a reliable main female lead that has room to grow too.

i did not enjoy all the secondary characters but i did understand their presences in a bigger picture. i was relieved to see the main actors 'own' their characters better and better as the show progressed!

its undeniable the main leads actors were really an almost perfect duo! age, traits and vibes, we could easily root for them! and i hope to see them again in other dramas!

now... the less enjoyable elements of this show...

this drama is fast paced, sometimes too much, tries to do too much, and dives too fast in the characters before we have the chance to actually connect with the characters. theres a lot of clichés/cheese too...
i honestly had a hard time connecting with the main leads until a few episodes in, not because of the actors, but the rushed events!
it felt really immature teen-style fantastical story at first, but the story holds itself just enough to see deeper things unfold!

its an almost idylic classic kdrama.... but is it worth watching??

if you like fantastical stories, definitely give it a chance!

i really appreciated the original parts and special scenes ( 3 words: CAKE, TANGO, JOURNAL) and i wished there was more creativity! i will remember it as a good show overall.

enjoyable to watch

the plot was good. I enjoyed the cast but the chemistry between the 2 main characters was lackluster occasionally. I did like them together. I did rewatch and it was okay to watch again. I enjoyed it and would recommend.

Nothing new

For some reason, this reminds me of King The Land in that we have all these beautiful people and set design yet the plot itself is the epitome of cliche. As much as Kim Yoo Jung can be considered a veteran actor (she's been acting for over a decade) I still think her performances are average. Don't get me wrong, I love her as a person but the characters she plays all seem to be on the same spectrum. Anyway, this drama, as other reviews have mentioned, brings nothing new to the table as we've been there and seen it all when it comes to K dramas about gods and demons (go watch the exceptional "Goblin"). Currently at episode 8 and I've already started fast-forwarding because this has me rolling my eyes and scoffing. I can't imagine having to go through eight more episodes.

Amazing performances yet messy writing

It's an interesting premise that tripped and rolled down the stairs at the last steps. This drama is good overall and the acting is amazing but the messy script in the last third brings the whole thing down.

What I liked:
***The performances. I think all of the actors gave really good performances for their characters. The main leads were great, and I especially liked Kang Seung-Ho who portrayed the grandson of the late Madam Joo.
***The soundtrack. It's nice, not overly noticeable though. I loved the intro song.
***The basic premise. If I overlook the messy details of the drama the fundamental plot is pretty interesting.
***The characters. Except for the villain and both second leads because of the flawed writing.

What I didn't like:
***Messy script/characterization in the last third of the drama.
(1.) It was an interesting decision to reveal Noh Suk Min as the main villain in the 9th episode just like that. We get to see a nice compilation of him doing his villainous deeds, and then a face reveal. Just like that, on a pretty silver platter and everything. Do the writers consider the viewers to be so dumb to not figure out who was responsible for everything? Why can't we piece everything together with the main leads? It would have been so much more interesting if we got to 'investigate' with them together. Also, Suk Min has the audacity to cry when his son and eventual victim tragically passes away due to how Suk Min was treating him? As of episode 12, we didn't get to see a close bond between the two of them to believe Suk Min's tears if they were genuine. If the tears are fake, he is not portrayed as a good actor/two-faced manipulator who has a curated persona shown to the public; he is shown as a cold and cruel person so it would be uncharacteristic to fake the tears. Whichever option doesn't make sense of the tears anyway. To me, it translates as bad writing.
(2.) The technical decision to make a whole separate episode for Gu-Won's past life instead of delivering the same information in a more elegant way. Maybe giving him wisps of dreams of how in his past life he fell in love and was made into a demon. He could have had a separate arc of finding out/trying to forget his past life with echo-y lines and foggy visuals from his dreams (you know, how people usually remember their dreams when they wake up). Mans had a whole movie play out in his mind one night instead and became conflicted about how he could be the cause of Do-Hee's downfall. This conflict could have been delivered with better writing quality and no changes to the amount of material filmed. Also, we get to see almost the same dream sequence backstory when Do-Hee remembers her past life. I can get past the first huge dream/past life backstory exposition but repeating it again and almost shot for shot? Exhausting and boring.
(3.) We are shown that after Gu-Won loses his powers his contracts are terminated, they literally burn to ashes, it's as if the wishes were never made (the little girl gets sick again). Since he got back his powers were his contracts magically restored? Why? Is this how it works? Shouldn't he make the contracts anew, the old ones burned away? I know it's nitpicky but hey, the drama should stick to its own rules.

***Stereotypical 'evil' second leads. Why do writers still rely on the drama created by second leads to drive the main romance forward? Can people truly not write good multidimensional characters that have their own story regardless of their feelings for the unattainable main leads? Both Jin Ga-Young (the dancer) and Joo Seok-Hoon (the not-really-cousin of Do-Hee) are one-dimensional 'pathetic' characters with unrequited love for their corresponding main lead. Nearing the end of the drama they come to realize that they have no chance to win over their main lead and move on, as ALWAYS with these types of characters. Uhhh. I'm just disappointed that the writers made these unsubstantial characters to drive the main leads away from each other when the main thing that is holding the second leads together is their unrequited love, warnings of how the other main lead is bad news, longing looks with eyes full of tears taped together with a few pieces of office tape.

Just an average drama

This drama is just okay, nothing too special. The two main leads give good performances, but the story feels kind of been-there-done-that. It's like they took bits and pieces from other Korean dramas and mashed them together. I mean, we've seen the whole "rich mom adopts an orphan" thing a million times before. And of course, her greedy biological kids only care about her money and pretend to be nice after she dies, but they're just trying to grab everything for themselves.

However, the adopted child, armed with determination and resilience, stands up against their nefarious actions, striving to protect what is rightfully theirs.

The problem is, even though it's only been five episodes, the drama is already getting repetitive. It's like they're just going in circles without adding anything new. The initial excitement has fizzled out, and it feels like a chore to keep watching.

I don't know about you, but I like dramas that bring something fresh to the table. Yeah, the performances are good, but that's not enough to save a drama that's stuck in the same old clichés. They need to take some risks and surprise us with something unexpected.

In short, this drama is just average. The performances are decent, but the story is lacking in originality. It's like a mixtape of overused plots and tropes. Hopefully, things pick up in the upcoming episodes and give us something to really get hooked on.

Overrated.

I started watching My Demon without expectation when I found it on new released in netflix. I'm quite okay with yoojung and songkang so I gave it a go eventho I'm not a fantasy-this-genre fans. The first few episodes was okay but still fun. Here was some of my impressions while watching it:
- Their 0 chemistry. I expect more from yoojung tbh, they are beautiful but I couldn't feel the connection
- the staring contest is too much. Why slow mo and paused everytime they look at each other. This was very annoying for me.
- the obsessive dancer. I skipped her part
- The assistant.. he's so one dimensional. Well.. almost all characters are one dimensional.
- The villain was more like demon than the demon itself. He knew everything, be at the right place, powerful. And the demon was so useless and stupid.
- They killed the grandma too soon. She's one of the few interesting character

At least I still stay to watch because I want to know what's next until ep 9 when they start to be lovey dovey out of nowhere (it is for me, the have no chemistry) and the story was going nowhere I had enough and dropped this.

The ongoing drama along with my demon like Samdalri, Park's Marriage Contract, Marry My Husband eventually grabbed my attention more and I dropped this one.

Have a lot of potential, but really too shallow and childish for my taste. The chemistry between the leads was bad. The story was bad. The side characters were not interesting. What a waste of such a big budget. The cinematography was good tho, it shows it's expensive budget.

My demon reminded me to not watch this genre anymore because the logic wont fit however I want to understand it.

No, i wont recommended this to anyone if you are not a teenager. Maybe if you are a teen you will love this so much because you haven't watch much Kdrama enough to be fed up with this one 😂

Chemistry between leads is the only thing working for this drama.

If I'd watched this drama in my kdrama beginning fangirl years 14 years ago, I'd have been head over heels. But after coming down that lane this far, this is no longer enough for me. It's too superficial, concentrating on visuals and not an actual story (personal opinion please)
There's nothing that makes me wait for that next episode, and the visuals are getting less tempting by day as a result, please if you read books, this story is not really all that fresh, the trope is saturated. I wish them a good run anyway, and an even better success in their next drama.

Promising start, boring second half

✅Impressive start, the premise was promising, like a demon in contract marriage + losses his powers. I was intrigued how they'll develop the story, and had me hooked till Ep8.

✅ Song Kang being a hot oppa and showing his abs and couple having beautiful visuals.

❌ My boy is a demon, who has lived on this planet for hundreds of years, but he still has no clue about anything and acts like a pathetic lover boy ;/

❌The plot is lackluster with no interesting developments or engaging storyline in the second half of the show. It's extremely predictable.

❌Too much talk, not enough action. For a fantasy drama, I wanted more magic, but it was disappointing that they didn’t use it to its full potential. Unsatisfactory feeling.

❌ There was way too much focus on side stories. They weren't bad, but they were clearly just filler to stretch the show to 16 episodes. It could've easily been wrapped up in 12.

❌I wish the old lady was more involved in the story, her character was interesting and I thought she'll play out a huge part in the story but she didn't 😀 hmmmmm

And don't even get me started on the FL, girly your husband is a demon, what do you expect him to be???? A angel??? 🤣🤣

Overall, I felt this was a mix version of SWDBS and The globin lmaooo with lazyy writing, it had so much potential but route was too cliche and ended up becoming too predictable for my taste🤧

5.2/10

this kdrama is not overrated!!

Many people say that this drama is overrated but let me tell you, not at all! This drama deserves EVERITHING

It has a good plot and for my taste it is perfect since it contains the main plot of the romance of the protagonists who are enemies to lovers with touches of comedy and for me what makes it more special is the plot with the mystery about who wants to kill dohee and everything behind that, family dramas and jealousy and who will inherit the company...

And the chemistry between the protagonists!!! I loved every scene between song kang and kim yoojung

In short, I love everything about this drama and I would watch it again and I will continue to love it. And I could say that it has become one of my favorite dramas, entering my top 5

A COMPLETE PACKAGE OF EMOTIONS!

LETS TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT I LOVED ABOUT THIS DRAMA!
THE STORY!
The story was so damn good! all the characters were build in such way that either way they were connected to each other. The first meet when the tattoo transferred and the last episode scene when she wishes him back and he just appears there, these were such a memorable scene in the drama. Next it was soo good to see every characters backstory so smoothly without over exggagerating it!
THE CHARECTERS!
The demon : Can anyone complaint about song kang ! he's such a angel and his acting skills were super awesome in the drama! His savage moves , his smile had me at every moment! the way he calls do he "do do". super cute song kang...
Do do he : she was so good in the boss role ! the way she handles her elegance with a soft feminine touch i loved it . She slayed it.
THE OST:
addicting!!!! the title song gives goosebumps ! and all other song were soooo good.
OVERALL THE DRAMA WAS A HIT FOR ME BECAUSE I LOVED IT AND I WAITED FOR EVERY SINGLE EPISODE EAGERLY!!!
