The Reincarnated Lovers is a very good historical miniseries. This drama is about Prince Xiao Xuan Yi (played by Guan Yue) and his lover Tang Wan Yu/Wan Wan (played by Guo Jia Yu), the daughter of Minister Tang that was born afflicted with heterochromia causing her eyes to turn blue. People with this condition were considered cursed and it was believed that they will bring disaster upon others. The synopsis written on MDL is wrong. Minister Tang is charged with treason and Xiao Xuan Yi is in charge of carrying out the death sentence upon the Tang family on his wedding day to Tang Wan Yu. Filled with pain and hatred against her husband, Wan Wan kills him and kills herself ensuing a story of reincarnation for both. The second thing that is wrong on the synopsis is that after their reincarnation, not rebirth, Wan Wan tries her best to reverse the tragic events of their first life and Xiao Xuan Yi, who still loves her, continues trying to protect her. There is no sadistic love at all in their relationship! By destiny and the male lead’s persistence, they get entangled again, work together to find the truth of all calamities, and find their happy ending. The miniseries is fast paced but it is well done. The cast did a good job bringing their characters to life, costumes are beautifully done, it has good cinematography, and the leading couple has good chemistry. If there is something that disappoints a little bit is that in many of the leading’s couple intimate scenes, the kissing was not intense but there are many tender moments between then and one can feel their love for each other. The drama is entertaining, enjoy it!

Did not make any sense at all

The story is like someone said nonsense. They took a good concept and decided to just mess with it. The first episode did not connect with the whole story. There is such a visible inconsistency with the way the ML's character behaves in the first episode and rest of the show.

In the first episode, he is a man, who lets his so called beloved marry a chicken and then forces himself on her on their wedding night. In the rest of the episodes, he seems like a different person, not a great ML but kinda okay. I have seen another drama featuring this Guan Yue (Night of love with you) he did good job in that. However, in TRL something was missing. Also, his makeup was so poorly done. In the last episode, when the FL dies, he walks to her with no grief in his expression at all. But later a tear slips down his cheek. Just so underwhelming.

Coming Back Again and Again

I'm not really into these reincarnated, reborn plots, but since this is make-believe I can live with it. Seriously, sometimes one has to take reviews with a grain of salt, taking into consideration that everyone has opinions and perceptions that might not align with one's own. That was the case here. I almost didn't watch because of the responses of some posters. Now I'm glad I followed my mind and gave it a shot. So, it won't win any awards for acting - but that isn't why I watch these dramas. They are an escape - a world made up of stories - so I don't take them so seriously that they affect me, especially negatively. If I don't like what I see, I stop watching.

That being said, I didn't mind the lead couple. They weren't sizzling but they were passable. I think the scene that had some viewers up in arms about was tastefully done, and if one watched the whole story, the reasons are explained. Also, the couple did have a history - not as though right off the bat they got married and they were strangers with no emotional attachment, so that wasn't an issue for me. The villains were awful enough, but they got some kind of comeuppance so that was ok with me.

One thing I really must comment on was the hair and make up. Both were awful. It was hard to find the characters appealing with such terrible make up. The women looked unattractive and unappealing, and the men (white-hair guy) looked washed out and pasty.

Again, this drama won't win any awards, but it you're looking for something to watch in-between serious dramas, or just to fill your time, this isn't bad.

Those ship love story might like this

"The Reincarnated Lovers" tells the story of lovers reincarnated to correct past wrongs and get a second chance at love. With 26 perfectly executed episodes, it captures the essence of redemption and second chances.

However, I have one question for the director or dialogue writer: Why include a dialogue where the male lead states that he will set her free because she hates him so much, only to then pursue her relentlessly and do everything possible to marry her? It seemed contradictory and confusing.

Third time is the charm.

(the spoilers in this review are mainly from ep1 so not really a major spoiler there but rather a warning you better know before your jaw drop from the toxicity in first episode).

The title 'The Reincarnated Lovers' gives the impression that both leads loved each other and faced some tragedy to end their life. but that's not really what happens.
In my opinion ML was somewhat at fault in the first life.. I could understand why he forced himself on her on wedding day right after killing her father (that also I can excuse by following orders) but did he have to be extra hurtful to her in front of everyone? couldn't he be less violent to her?
I found his behavior a bit confusing actually! I could feel he kinda cared for her some scenes but not in many other! (not sure if it was the acting or directing fault).
ML got too invested in his trash husband act so I don't blame her believing the act!

Enough with rants and spoilers, lets talk about other stuff!

-I knew the ML from other dramas, he is okay but has room for improvement.
-I oddly got used to the make up of FL (because I've seen worse), and her acting was okay as well.
-The leads have good chemistry. (I mean ep2 onward).
-The 2ML though, his acting is as bad as I've seen him before but he was so forgettable so I didn't care much about him.

-The costumes and ost were good.

WARNING :
**The first episode could be a bit disturbing for some. (ML forced himself on FL on wedding day although not much was shown)
**There were few forced kisses in the first episode
[If you get passed the first episode, the rest is good]

So is it worth watching?
*if you like the ML. yeah, go for it. (still better read my warnings before starting)
*if you don't like any toxicity involved in your drama experience, it's not for you! (or you could just skip the first episode)
*if the blue contact lenses & too much makeup distracts you from plot, not for you!

Can you avoid your destiny?

Being murdered by your husband on your wedding day. This is how this series begin.

I was shaking my head constantly. Life is very cruel to Wanwan and her husband. In the first episode you see that Wanwan's father is murdered by Xiao Xuan Yi. She takes revenge and kills him and herself. Did he do it or was it someone else? You can clearly see how Xuan Yi feels about Wanwan. Terrible things happen, but slowly the truth unfolds.

You have to go through all those terrible things with them untill the end. This series is worthy of your time. You just have to keep watching to know who did it and why. Not everything is what it looks like.

Dragging and filled with illogical details

The logic is all over the place. The characters constantly contradict themselves, and the pacing is painfully slow. This mini-series could have been condensed into a micro-series, to be honest. Despite not being excessively long compared to typical shows, even after watching 70% of the show at a faster speed and frequently skipping ahead, I still felt like I wasted my time once I finished watching.

Just awful

Be aware that in the first episode the ML forces himself on the FL after murdering her whole family. She then revenges him and offs herself. Then they both restart three years in the past.
From that point we're supposed to root for them to have a redemption in their time loop second life?

I tried to give this the benefit of the doubt, but even several episodes in, he's trying to act like he's drawn to her and can't help himself and she tries to keep a distance but somehow still gets tangled with him?

The acting is awful, the script is nonsense, the makeup is horrible.
0/10 do not waste your time on this.

Poor Acting and Tan Jianci and JuJingYi Resemblance

This could've been a good series if it wasn't for the poor acting by most of the actors. Except for the male lead actor. Yes i understand it's a mini series, usually played by newbies, but there are also mini series with good acting skills.
The story isn't that bad, typical reincarnation drama. However i noticed there are some scenes that suddenly jump forward. There are also boring scenes and dialogs that i had to skip. The plot is kinda predictable.

I have to say this btw.
The male lead actor looks like Tan JianCi (especially TJC as Xiang Liu) and the female lead looks like Ju JingYi. I'm pretty sure the producer noticed it and wanted them to be "TJC and JJY" ( judge from how they act and the FL excessive make up and hair accessories).
The male lead actor is good, although many times he's kinda copied TJC's acting gestures. The FL however, needs to improve her acting skill. I hope to see her in other drama with her real self, not as a resemblance of Ju Jingyi.

Overall the drama is good if you need to kill some times. It's short, light and has pretty faces. But if you wanna watch good quality drama, this won't be the choice
