The drama is over but its a beautiful memory which will live on!
i dont prefer romance based dramas/movies much as they have similar storyline with HE/BE, but still i watched this one fr its story & ofcourse RJL, Jeremy.Story:
PY was given the responsibility of making his clan famous, thrive etc by his mother which he complied obediently, until he met JC, he became obsessive (lover kind of) regardless he still kept his clan/mother his priority before JC. His attitude towards JC became better after her master passed away/couldnt save his mother. He got a huge blow whn AC was killed, which led him to fight for his country/injustice/fr bigger cause/ fr people.
Cui Liang had less scenes but they were crucial fr the story. Personally he couldn't fight fr his love due to various reasons.
JC, a free spirited girl gets caught up in btwn. Later as story progresses realises both ML's were using her fr their own selfish desires. Although she's clouded by what she hears vs sees, towards the last quarter realises where her heart truly belongs.
WZ's life was not his to begin with, he dedicated it for the people of yueluo city. Out of all characters his was the most heartbreaking one. Frm him hating her fr spoiling his plans to caring fr her/console, be with her in her difficult times even if his life was at stake/decorating their house & many moreeee was portrayed remarkably.
Acting :
Kudos to all actors, actresses fr playing their characters marvelously.
RJL you chose your character excellently, the one that vil stay in OUR HEARTS FOREVER
((its sad end fr his character BUT do we remember all happy endings of dramas/movies???? ......... this one fr sure we will))
Overall:
Gradual progression of strangers - hating - loving each other, shown beautifully although at start i was skeptical abt the theme of this drama however it kept me hooked till the end.
No matter how much i write it doesnt give full justice to this gem.

Half Worth the Watch, At Least Not a Total Waste of Time
I don't even remember what I liked about this drama that i have endured the early eps. It's 40 episodes and is one of the longest dramas I've watched. And in the end, after finishing it, I can say it's half worth it, but probably because of the amazing performance and characters of both male leads. Don't get me wrong, the female lead is a great actress; I just don't like the damsel-in-distress type and the, what do you call that, naive type who claims that she doesn't know how to seduce men but has done all the things a man would fall for and claims that she didn't want that love at all, like what? I can't blame the second male lead for falling and obsessing over her. She clearly sent some signals unknowingly. I feel bad for the second male lead; he's such a good character at first but was driven mad by love and became obsessive. He's tragically begging for her love at any given chance, like, bro, there are many fishes in the sea; don't waste your time on someone who can't love you back. But I'm glad that in the end, he realized his obsession. It's just how the story is written; you're just not the female lead's type, haha. I really feel bad for him and at the same time admire that, until the end, you can still see in his eyes that he still loves her but is now ready to let go. I liked the male lead at first but lost interest probably at the same time when the female lead started becoming unbearable for me. Overall, not that worth of a watch; just felt pity for the second lead and just want to know how the story ends. Was this review helpful to you?

Shameless Cat
Oh, Commander Wei. Oh, Sanlang! Oh, my heart!? I have yet to finish but without a doubt! As I’ve said it once, I’m going to say it again. This is hands down one of the very best in a long, long time. After Love of Nirvana, I’m afraid too many other series will only be faulted in my eyes. It’s not so much that this was perfect, but it was nearly perfect! The story was well-written and executed! There was never a need to become skeptical or go beyond belief to accept the plot or its logic, neither having to constantly question any of the characters or their level of maturity and mentality. And that’s how I know it’s a good one!Indeed, Love of Nirvana showcased a very political sense of plot and complex roles with every episode climatically opening up to the next. The longer I stay with Nirvana, I see a masterpiece, an intricate level of many things fitting into the big puzzle———proving to further and thickened the plot and unexpectedly entwining everyone and their actions together! Clearly, the author knew her intended audience and she wrote a keen story to match!
My only disappointment in the drama were the lack of romance for our leads and no finer strategies regarding Sanlang’s plans. Regarding Yuelo, he was at a total loss of what to do, hence more clansmen have to die. I was keen on him preparing something ahead, manipulating a plan. But over and over, he had nothing up his sleeves only depending on his moles and watching his people die one by one ultimately failing to keep himself alive, too. I’m not a fan of neither Allen Ren and Jeremy’s acting, but I have to say here their dullness becomes their roles most enigmatically. Allen’s seemingly reserved and aloofness embodied as Sanlang was very much appreciated.
I personally found Lord Pei the most conflicted, and pitiful and relatable character in the show. I applaud Jeremy for his showcase of the role, he really gave his all, knowing that he went against his agency to take the supporting role! A righteous lord fighting for justification but filled with greed. He seeks greatness but unable to live up to the name. Torned between his duty and selfishness, yet trying to keep up with his heart and wild emotions at the same time answering to his kin and King. He is the epitome of only wanting to do good but everything only proved wrong. I feel for Lord Pei.
I absolutely adored the very-unlikely-and-subtle bromance between Commander Wei(Sanlang) and Lord Pei. They might think they are sworn enemies of the court but really their quiet animosity is based on some respect and of their own tasks. It was pretty interesting to watch the two opposing men occasionally throw together by the King, and other times Sanlang was plotted to keep an eye on Lord Pei as the latter was tasked to work with the former aka the mask man. Even after Lord Pei discovered Sanlang’s identity, no real harm was done? They are wholesome frenemies.
Last but not least, Jang Ci is by far one of the most likable heroines ever! She’s consistent, reasonable, and super smart! Very practical. Very mindful, Very demure! A great actress!

Love of Nirvana, best my drama
First I would like to thank the cast and production team for producing such a beautiful and touching drama.Yes, at first I didn't even intend to watch this drama because of the male lead. But I ended up getting sucked into it. This drama is very beautiful with a well-organized plot. As for the main character, The development of feelings and character is very strong, very interesting to explore the story of his life.
For the female character I like that she was initially a free and cheerful person but along with the story she also developed and the characterization of li landy. Come on we don't need to doubt.I really like this drama, for now I might stick to Chinese dramas, because I think their stories are amazing. Oh yeah, the soundtrack of this drama, I love it.

And ending that will leave you in tears
WHAT AN ENDING!! HONESTLY I JUST CRIED. If that did not move you then you really have no feelings.SPOILER ALERT:
ML realize that he will never get justice for his family and he decided to do the only thing he could which was to kill the emperor. The emperor truly deserved to die for what he did. Like how can you sacrifice a whole village just for your own personal gain?
That being said, I would love to watch a historical drama with ML where he does not die... (ML also starred in one and only drama, where he died).
Overall great show. Not sure if I want to rewatch it cuz the ending is so sad but just great. And if you can honestly say that this was not a good show then you don't know what a good show is.

I've grown weary of the emotional toll that comes with watching Ren Jia Lun in dramas where either he or the leading lady dies. It feels like the producers, writers, and directors often alter the endings to suggest that they might find each other again or to somehow make sense of the loss. Out of the ten dramas I've watched with this incredible actor, this kind of ending seems to be a recurring theme. I truly hope that before my time on this earth is over, he'll have the chance to star in a fantasy drama that ends on a positive note.

Much more than a love triangle
The story shows a simple girl from the hills (with a suspicious identity) learning that the world is not black or white and that every thoughtless action has consequences. The hand that extends to you is not always friendly or out of pure altruism, and those who seem to want to do harm have a thousand reasons to be suspicious.
Yes, the heroine matures and learns to distinguish the millions of colors between black and white as well as the causes she should embrace.
The two male protagonists are fantastic and their characters are complex and captivating.
While Pei Yan is a nobleman who walks on thin ice and is cunning with master moves, Wei Zhao / Xiao Wu Xia has a noble cause, is suspicious and full of traumas and after overcoming the barrier of trust with Jiang Ci begins to explain to her the twists and turns that each thoughtless action causes….

Life after Love Of Nirvana, Wei Zhao, and Jiang Ci
Overall I would say that this show had me interested 75% of the time but the 25% really REALLY got to me.First things first credit where credit is due.
1) Li Landy, Ren Jia Lun, and Jeremy Tsui all did a wonderful job at their respective roles and were able to truly bring them to life, these roles felt 3 dimensional and not just 2D.
2) The writers truly fleshed out the Li Landy and Ren Jia Lun's characters. They each had a back story that unraveled as the drama unfolded, their motives were clear, their priorities were set and they did what they set out to do. (Win my heart that is.)
3) Jeremy Tsui was truly able to make me fall in love and hate the Second Male Lead, I don't know if that was the intention but...
4) Yueluo's arc is truly phenomenal from the story line to the development and the future of Yueluo.
The 25% that truly bothered me
1) Jeremy Tsui or Pei Yan and his mothers story could be made into another drama altogether and that could have been interesting instead of roughly meshing together 2 stories. There were parts in the second half of the drama that I was truly skipping because of this and funny thing is it did not take away from the story. If these parts were made shorter and brief it would still have had the same effect desired. I feel like this drama did not do Pei Yan or the second storyline justice.
2) I have not read the book and I will not claim to do so just to prove my point but from my engagement with the viewers who had, it was clear that the drama did not follow the same storyline as the novel. If we assume that that is the case then I do not understand WHY they HAD to give it the novel's ending. For a character who is shown to have mental, and physical prowess, I do not understand why the drama ended the way it did. One situation that I truly found ridiculous was the last episode and everything has gone to hell he says - “Today's story is mine to tell. The Emperor of Liang died at the hands of a sycophant, Wei Zhao.” If you are so keen on telling the story then you need to be *alive* to do that. He could have left, he could have been alive but maybe it's the actors love for sad endings, honestly I could have done without this.
3) Minor details - It truly made be scoff when the emperor reveals who killed Wei Zhao's sister and why. Like Sir are you okay? This could have been SOMETHING but she died for what. Also Pei Yan's unnecessary overbearingness and obsession is rough to witness, I'm just glad he realizes it and moves on. Lastly, one night and pregnancy is a bit much even if it's a period drama like can there be some build up, some fluffy domestic scenes, etc. I have no problem with a pregnancy trope but do it right instead of just throwing it in at the last moment.
I know it may seem like I truly disliked the drama - that is not the case. I encourage anyone who reads this review to watch the drama at least once and skip when you feel like it too. Its a good watch and you can learn a few things from it about life.

The Irony of Nirvana is the main theme in this tale of conspiracies chaos and corruption
A curious and carefree Ci ventures out from the safety of her village in the mountains to explore the world below only to literally land in the middle of a political firestorm.Ci’s journey led her to the political home of Pei, where she learned medicine , became an enemy, friend then lover of Wei. She traveled to surrounding villages to bring healing and kindness to the people, and justice for women, landed in the royal palace as a princess, and encountered a couple of wars along the way. Her adventures were nothing short of exciting .
The conspiracies and corruption could at times be convoluted but it was interesting to watch the characters investigate and try and unravel the mess. The show missed an opportunity with the Shadow Sect. Their secrecy and strategy made for an intriguing part of the story but was dropped halfway through the series due to the plot turning more towards war and political wrangling in the palace.
Though Pei started off toxic and controlling towards Ci he evolved nicely into a man who recognized the error of his ways and in turn became a fierce ally of Wei and Yueluo. But like other plots within the series, his political endgame of wanting to raise his status in the court was essentially dropped.
The leads, Wei and Ci, had chemistry and a lot of potential but unfortunately that potential wasn’t fully realized. They had some sweet moments but didn’t become a couple until the last few episodes and even then they barely shared any scenes due to the war. I think they kissed once, finally, in the second to last episode and that was only because they had sex. SMH. There were some missed opportunities for them to be physically closer ie hand holding, kisses, hugs, which would’ve given their romantic bond more credence.
The last few episodes got bogged down with too many war strategy meetings and battle scenes. Sadly, the ending was disappointing but not surprising. My heart broke for Ci. She lost everyone she loved most, which was painful to watch. And though I was not a fan of Pei, I felt so bad for him. For in the end he lost everyone he cared about either due to death or by their choice to leave him. Granted much of that was his own fault but it didn’t make him less sympathetic due to the losses. This was a good series. The acting was good and overall the plot was strong. However, if you’re looking for a romance drama you won’t find it here. It’s mostly a political conspiracy and war drama.

engaging serious plot, entertaining enemies-to-lovers; biggest weakness is female lead's development
I started this drama with very high hopes. I enjoyed all three of the main actors (li landi, ren jialun, and xu zhengxi) from previous dramas. The fight scenes looked great, the acting was pretty good, and the cinematography wasn't bad. The conflicts and motivations of each character were clear in the beginning. But as you watch on, you'll see that the female lead seems to have the least depth to her character. The drama felt very much weighted toward wei zhao's story and pei yan's story. They felt like the true main characters by the end, and the true equals of the show, rather than it being between the female lead and male lead. And that's not a bad thing, but the problem is that they didn't elevate jiang ci's character. Her character's agency and fierceness disappeared over the course of the drama. She constantly felt stuck in the same place (literally, sometimes!) and rarely saved herself. Even her anger over wei zhao's white lies (and straight-up lies) felt a bit tamed. Toward the last third of the drama, it felt like so many men around jiang ci were making decisions for her, making decisions about her status and life. She had no say. She could not leave where she was. We didn't even get to see her on screen very much. It was beyond frustrating. I almost dropped the drama.
By the final third of the drama (around 30-35), when one more serious sub-plot tried to surface, I gave up on this dragged out storyline and just skipped a lot of it. I just wanted to know what happened at the end.
The drama started so high, but ended as just 'meh' for me. I couldn't bear how much the female lead was suffering because of the men in her lives.
If you like stories that have less romance and more of the scheming and battles (and sad tragic realities of war), this did pretty good. I was really sad for the state of Yueluo, who have to send slaves to the Liang state and who have to suffer humiliation from the Liang state. That pain is really well shown.

one of the better ones in 2024
I like it because each character was reasonable normal people, they had their own motives, their own thoughts, and their actions portrayed it. They were their own person. Not something made up randomly for the plot. Something very rare in CDrama. My favorite would be the MFL and SML's mother. When I started this series, I didn't expect that I'd be watching till finished. Not because anything wrong in the first few episodes, but it's just petty me LOL.. I can't relate to ML description as the most beautiful man in the capital with the actor, another actor's face kept on popping in my head LOL... But hey... the actors ability and storyline in the end wins against my pettiness.. I finished the whole 40 episodes hehe .... Please give this Drama a try ?Was this review helpful to you?
