Are you going to watch because of reviews or because you're curious?
When you start watching this drama, you'll understand my title lolI knew as soon as I saw the cast that this is an absolute must watch for me. The main cast, the guest roles, a majority of actors and actresses I really like. And so far, I am not disappointed by anything in this drama.
The story. Mysteries and truths of multiple cases connected to the main characters are unraveled slowly throughout the episodes. I always love a good mystery solving plot and good guys Vs bad guys. I'd like to emphasize the comedy inserts in this drama, especially on Chi Yun's part.
I love characters like Tang Lici - cunning, calculating, always one step ahead, non chalant (they are almost always at the verge of dying though), morally grey characters like Shen Langhun and clumsy characters who are always broke and they are good fighters like Xue Xianzi (Bai Shu is almost a default cast for such characters but I love it)
The casting. I am literally glued to the screen with each episode. This absolutely gorgeous looking cast is emphasized by the director's camera work. We all know that Luo Yunxi is fabulous but he along with Xiao Shunyao especially look x100 more handsome in every single frame of the drama. Aside from all eye candies, I think everyone is doing a great job for their character.
The costumes. THE BUDGET FOR THIS DRAMA HELLO??? I saw a fair share of wonderful art already but the work in this drama is supreme. Especially the pastels on Luo Yunxi. And I personally am a sucker for all the jewelry and hairpins and such, so this drama is a visual in every aspect.
The music. Honestly, I'm not registering it much 😅
A special mention belongs to the CGI in this drama, it is the best I've seen in a while.
Rewatch value. I think this is very worth rewatching, because as I already mentioned - visuals are absolutely stunning.
Overall, do not waste time reading reviews, you know that you want to watch this and you're surely not going to regret.
Edit after finishing the drama: all my points still stand, I just have a very personal opinion on endings and I realized that I'm quite picky about them lol. In my personal opinion, I would have ended the plot about halfway through ep 35, the episodes following past this one are like an epilogue to me. Maybe it was because I was spoiled about the ending on social media and I knew how it is going to end, that the last 5 episodes felt like I had to push myself to watch them. But again, I am picky about endings and I like a very certain outcome ( not going to say what it is as to keep this review without spoilers) and I almost always had trouble finishing the last episodes of any series because I didn't want it to end (anyone else? Lol).
Anyways, I didn't change anything about the rating of this drama, I still think it's absolutely worth your time.

Give different vibes
It is not like most of the C fantasy dramas, we can get different feelings and vibes here...We can see not only romance but also bromance, family & siblings, friends, brotherhood, comrades and different points of view on mainly people follow on what they believe and right.
I highly recommend to watch this but if you are not into fantasy then don't.

MY SHAYLA ?
Science fiction having crossover with Xianxia was breath of fresh air and well portrayed. I love how unique and complex the characters were crafted. The story itself was complex which definitely became a challenge to squeeze in 40 episodes. It was pretty evident that many important arces had been cut out.And honestly the main couple had no chemistry. Ah-Shei's character is badly portrayed (I heard they deleted a lot of her scenes) and Lin Yun looked sleepy most of time in her scenes.
In conclusion, the cinematography and overall drama was a chef kiss!
Luo Yunxi roles never disappoint! This is my new angst roman empire!

11/10 Absolute Masterpiece with Luo Yunxi once again
I just finished this drama, and honestly… I’m heartbroken. I actually paused it back at episode 35 because my gut told me he was going to end up as a sacrificial lamb yet again. I finally pushed myself to finish it today. Even though the rewatch value is a 10/10 for me, I don’t think I can ever bring myself to watch Luo Yunxi go through all that pain and trauma again. If TTEOM was its own kind of emotional trauma, this drama feels like an upgraded version of that heartbreak. I did love the touch at the end with his friends having those tiny fox tails, even though they’ll never truly know the loss and sacrifice that made it possible. The subtitles I had were pretty terrible for the last episode, but I’m pretty sure I saw a silver/white fox, so I’m assuming that was Foxy Tang or more like a spirit to keep his presence.
The costumes, the acting, everything was amazing. Luo Yunxi’s micro-expressions and intensity? Absolutely 1000/10. Strangely, it gave me the same bittersweet feeling I had after watching Mysterious Lotus Casebook with Chengyi.
But now I’m in that empty, post-drama void where nothing else feels good enough to watch next. Maybe I’ll rewatch Love is sweet with Luo Yunxi, but right now I’m honestly too heartbroken, and I already knew this coming in the first episode.

Gorgeous wigs, costumes, CGI and drama!
There is the plot...And then there are Luo Yunxi's aka Tang Lici beautiful black and white wig, the gorgeous costumes, the CGI and his eyes and expressions.
I'm sooo in love with Luo Yunxi in this drama! How can someone look so beautiful and have such a gentle voice while being arrogantlol how?? His Holy Son costume and makeup was sooo fab! I think I'm gonna end up watching all his other dramas just cause of this infatuation lmao!
Every single one of Tang Lici costumes are sooo freaking beautiful! The colors, the makeup, the hairdo, the accessories! Everything is so pretty!
The white/grey hair wig and the black and white hair wig, both are just so gorgeous and look sooo good on Luo! I just can't get over it!
Just like 'Till The End of The Moon' drama and its character Tantai Jin, who was complicated, this drama and its character Tang Lici has so so many layers, and Luo Yunxi has mastered it all!
It felt like Tang Lici was the character specially crafted for Luo Yunxi! I can't imagine anybody else playing A'Li but this guy! His acting is on a whole another level with Tang Lici! He truly became one with character!
And all the side characters bring in their own flavors to the mix, and go along well with Tang Lici character.
I haven't read the novel yet, but I'm hoping the stay true to it.
If you're looking for high end fantasy, handsome faces, anime-like CGI and fighting scenes and Luo Yuxi fantastic acting, you gotta watch it!
Rewatch: 10/10

Well written and acted complex characters
Hats off to Alen Fang! He plays an astounding and exquisitely deranged character so well in Whispers. His acting has surprised me. Don't do a Heath Ledger, Alen! The story is excellent. The back story is revealed bit by bit. The bad guys are truly evil with twisted ambitions, while the misunderstandings, betrayals and the compromised characters are very well done.

A Layered Odyssey &Visually Stunning
I absolutely adored this watch. It felt fresh and new compared to what we’ve been getting over the years. It was intelligent and deeply layered, always evolving and building across episodes, with a plot that only got better and better with time. It was engaging, philosophical, and touching. I loved the characters—their growth and their dynamics. The sub-arcs made this a true odyssey, and the cinematography was beautiful. The twists were either predictably impactful or genuinely shocking, delivered consistently all the way to the end, keeping me on my toes the entire time. I can’t praise this drama enough, and I can easily see myself rewatching it without ever feeling bored by the narrative. This isn't something you can understand in a few episodes, and the ending, for me, was satisfying. This is a top-shelf favorite, hands down.

Deeply spiritual, a must watch
I’m actually on episode 39 while deciding to draft this review, because i have a sense of the inevitable around halfway through the drama, and even now, my views have not changed, so here we are.Would also like to apologise in advance of length but if you decide to read you’re an absolute goat that’s for sure
It’s hard to actually write a review of this drama because of how much of an impact it has left. Even harder to formulate an overall rating. There are a multitude of basis for this.
Overall enjoyment, the lessons taught, the depth, the visuals, the story, out of love for a particular actor so you give it 10/10 anyway. The list goes on and on.
I ended up balancing a bit of both story/structure, the core message, depth and its execution. How memorable it would be after I finish, irrespective of what I hoped the ending to be.
There was another platform that I used to watch this on, which I’ll refrain from naming, and the overall had been a 6.5 before I started. It didn’t affect my decision in watching, but the need to know why became the primary motivation, in addition to enjoy another one of his works of course.
6.5 is considered quite low, and it felt like a blow considering it’s a highly anticipated work.
To put it in a single sentence, this drama is not for everyone.
The structure of the plot itself is an innovation, and requires a lot of patience. Normally past/alternate timeline is dedicated to 10 or so episodes, which is mostly common (TTEOTM, Love Between, Untamed. Etc). But in this case, we get injected fragments when fox is reminiscing, has passed out, or dreaming.
It’s apparent very early on, that the main value (as is always the case for Luo Yunxi's dramas) of this story was not what I expected. It’s beyond just a tragic misunderstanding, winning against evil , and the desire to make things right.
There is strong philosophical and spiritual depth. No exact spoils, because you are meant to work to realise and appreciate such multi layered depths.
There is just so much truth. Raw, unflinching truths that one might not be ready to hear, or even understand. But it may be a a sign to embark on your own spiritual awareness. If you do recognise these truths about life, these moments are the ones that make you weep, and not witnessing a character going through some form of pain.
This is just my personal interpretation, but depending on your own experiences, your personal journey in the current stage of your life, not everyone may be able to recognise the spiritual themes, and view it solely as a “friends to enemies, and the desire to revive a dead master, and defying fate” kind of story.
Which is completely okay, but I think this recognition is what ultimately separates a viewer giving a 6/10 as opposed to 9/10.
The only reason why I did not give it 10/10 is only due to lack of background/ not enough focus on the Yinyang concept, since this is heavily tied to Tang Lici’s identity. At times, the intention wasn’t clear even near the end—was he reborn? Is he a descendant even? Is he born to kill the origin? So and so.
Perhaps we were made to guess, but the confusion removed me from the immersion of the story at times, a break in the flow, and I felt it should be reflected in the rating
The idea of defying fate is primarily the case for TTEOTM, which there’s notably a lot of comparison of with Whispers of Fate, but this felt watered down and not the main focus as the former was. It felt like an injustice to compare both characters, as both dramas tell a completely, COMPLETELY, different story, and holds an entirely new meaning.
Tang Lici left the realm he wasn’t supposed to leave, and the aftermath of every event that is showcased through the drama felt like a karma for escaping. You can sense the gods’ wrath at his choice to carve his own path. There’s a sense of punishment, and also immense blessing. Despite this, there is an undercurrent of belief that’s refused to be trodden. He navigates through the emotional burden alone, with friends, and you witness these experiences shaping him, somewhat resembling trials and tribulations, both in a tragic and heartwarming sense.
It goes without saying his portrayal of these complex emotions is absolutely phenomenal so I shall spare you another round of essays…
At some point near the end, I was heavily reminded of the book “A Little Life”. Different context, similar main character, similar emotional journey. And even the same tragic, inevitable end. At times where Tang Lici was suffering away from prying eyes, choosing the lone path, hiding his true background, and refusing to let others in, it was one of those moments that reminded of the book.I couldn’t pinpoint exactly when. But it just suddenly appeared, and I couldn’t unsee it since.
I found myself in such grief in moments where Tang Lici was so compassionate, his love so unconditional, to even dare say he'd never be as benevolent like Fang Zhou, but his actions had already proved him otherwise--and not where he was in physical pain. There are a lot of quiet devastating moments that are like arrows to the chest, striking where it hurt most.
The music really highlight the emotions in the scenes so well. T-T The music for this drama is so good.
In the end, if I have to choose, I would introduce Whispers of Fate as a profound journey of healing and growth. One that might help the viewer in their own journey as well.
The healing comes in many forms: forgiveness—somehow always harder to yourself than to others, letting go—of the past, of what you consider to be mistakes, of chronically thinking what could have been, of control, courage—in vulnerability, accepting/asking for support and love, and to keep the courage alive in the face of absolute failure and future ventures. The growth naturally, comes from healing.
In a way, his emotional journey mirrors that of mortals. Grief, death, love, hate, happiness, gratitude, growth, hope, sickness, sacrifice. Where there is suffering, he had also experienced beauty. Despite the foreseeable ending, there was a sense of fulfilment that couldn’t be denied. To live as Tang Lici was something he was grateful and happy to be. His life, despite power, was at the expense of his soul at the Celestial Realm, but richer and more fulfilling in the Divine Land. Notice the colour grading between the two - cold as a prison and vibrancy.
I don’t think he would have changed his decision.
Such is the meaning of life. To experience, and don't say "regret"
On the recognition of spiritual themes, I personally had synchronities in relation to the idea of controlling outcomes, just days before starting this drama. I think because of this, Shui Long Yin above his other works, is a drama I won't ever forget. The profound impact and the themes it tries to pass on to the viewer had struck a chord within me. It felt like alignment that I came across it at this specific point in my life-where the major themes mentioned are values I still try to learn to embrace.
Since 2023, I have begun experiencing symptoms of anhedonia, and it has gradually grew worse since. I do things for the sake of doing, and this drama and its profound messages, was like this quiet but heavy presence, reminding me what life is supposed to be about. To remember what is important but have become increasingly neglected in today's society. Compassion is dying, love is transactional, being righteous and speaking out gets one k/lled. Cowardice lets you survive. Freedom doesn't always equate to power, but choosing what the heart yearns.
Tang Lici was created as a second YinYang to revive the Celestial Realm, and they attempted to control every aspect to succeed in the outcome. but what they failed to consider is the unpredictability of the human heart, and the power of compassion (Fang Zhou).
The tragedy lies not in the ending, but Tang Lici having a sense this would be the case, and accepts it graciously for the sake of the relationships he loved so deeply. There is just so much gratitude and compassion in his choice, that he was grateful to live as Tang Lici, even though it was fleeting. How many of us feel the same way, about the time that's given to us on Earth?
I could write a dissertation on the drama’s depth. This is merely just a list. The interwoven themes run so deep, requiring one’s own interpretation beyond dialogue given, particularly in quiet moments, that you might miss the details upon devouring the episodes. But as mentioned, that is up to you.
To end, I'm going to leave a few of some hard hitting quotes
"If everything in this world became an unchanging eternity, then it is not worth remembering.”
"I'm a monster who wishes to kill, but once revered as a god. You're labelled as a monster, who wishes to save the world."
“I have always held back”
"If others laugh, let them laugh"
“if a person sacrifices himself to save everyone else, should they die?”
"There are things more important than life or death"
“There is no such thing as wasted time. There is only new hope, and new people. Dont hate yourself.”
“You are afraid of being understood, and when you get misunderstood, you dont mind. You dont like to explain yourself.”
"He never liked Longjing since young"
“When you start to explain yourself, you lose”

Happy for all but one
The story shows great character development, you can see the MC change from being weary and not trusting everyone to someone who was willing to make believe in the good in everyone. The story would have been perfect if not for the ending. I believe for someone who has gone through so much they deserve a bit more. Now we are left feeling empty and asking ourselves would you make the same decision the MC did? I guess there was not much left of anything if he didn't.Great story telling, great character development, good flashy CGI, lots of plot twists.

⟪Trapped in loop of loneliness⟫
A man showed kindness to a fallen dragon, taught him music, kindness and said people at birth are kind. our dragon, took that a little too seriously. An S+ production with very detailed world-building and CGI, exquisite attention to costume design, and a sweeping cast of large-scale characters. Every detail radiates the investment behind it. Unique among xianxia, though it leans into the storytelling traditions of wuxia.
what do you think is the relation between Fang Zhou and Lici? and Liu Yan? extreme brotherhood? paternal figure they revere? or closest person to their heart? bro triangle?
I felt their love for fang Zhou, he is metaphor to buddha, a saviour at the time of trouble. an important part of they life and their everything. he is their inner demon and also god; that destroys them and saves them throughout their life. and reason for their love and hate that shifts in an instant, because their was love, their existed hate. every moment hate existed, existed love.
Their story is so complex and layered, it reminded of times before 2020, when things were similar. intricate plot for every character, each character had plot to developed in. almost non stayed stagnant. surprising that they narrated it in mere 40 ep.
The actor that played Liu Yan must be emotionally exhausted from acting such twisted character. what was the secret of Xifang Tao said to Puzhu? it wasn't revealed till end.
Ali's obsession in his whole life was that people around him, those he cherished live a peaceful and happy life. in the end he did achieve it, at a price of not existing in there life, that is for now...may be, may be fate will make him and his beloved once, re-unite again, in a way no one excepts...and finally break his loop of loneliness...
He returned the kindness a stranger showed to him by saving his world, may be now its time the world breaks his loop of loneliness, or may be let each of them live peacefully as their are now, in their spaces happily,
At least Ice immortal Xue Xian Zi is their for our little fox.
