Fated Twist?
The surprise in question? Well for a long time watcher of wuxia, costume and fantasy drama i must say this drama has a lot of nice costumes and cinematography that feeds the eyes and leaves one in awe . The actors did execute their part pretty well and will leave you watches eager to watch another episode. However the progression of the drama was slow from the couple starting episodes that caused many watches to drop this drama early and i totally understand them. Even though that was an issue for me I did manage to make it half way through the drama and find it funny that everything falls into place and progression of the story occurs from here on to the ending episodes.Is the drama romance heavy? I’d say no. But expect a lot of BROMANCING

One of the Best Acts This Year, Loved Everything About this Show!!
There are very few instances when you left mesmerized by a character, mysterious, alluring & yet dependable!These words can be alluded to describe Tang Lici, some of them at least. Shredded in mystery, from the start to end; the show portrays Tang Lici as a character who is as vulnerable as his strength. We are often left wondering about his supersonic strength, ability to heal quickly and most specifically his past. Who is he? Is he from this world? If not, then why is he striving to protect this world? Tang Lici can best be described as a man whose entire existence screams dominance and yet sociable but cunning. From the first episode, the show revolves hugely around Tang Lici and his odd group of motley friends that he picks up on the way. Each of them have a strong bonding with Tang Lici, as he solves problems related to the martial world, tackles his ex-boss friend who is mostly in a psychotic phase and tries to revive his dead master. He does this and much more, everything impossible from a normal man’s perspective.

MORALIȘTIC DRAMA??
OVERALL it's Wonderful but in the end of the Epi TANG LICI'S “SACRIFICE" was an another level of act....Not just this but from Starting to Last just Mr.Tang Bare Sadness,Pain or even get Betrayed too.....
His Friend Liu Yan i feel much sad for him too coz from starting He think that Tang Lici was bad or an evil guy but thankfully in end he knows that he's not bad or evil person....

Good Start but that's it!
✨️ Good parts:• the concept and core idea had strong potential and a solid foundation
• not boring in terms of pacing choices
• parts of the OST and background music were beautiful
• the cinematography and costumes were pretty and they really tried
• the casting choices suited the roles and the actors fit their characters
❌️ Bad parts:
• no layered writing regarding the plot
• lots of one-dimensional characters
• boring storyline with no meaningful stakes
• story is 99% focused on the male lead, leaving everyone else underdeveloped
• male lead is omnipotent, flat, and has no real development
• inconsistent male lead (emotionally unstable then suddenly enlightened)
• the only fully fleshed out character was the main lead everyone else got forgotten for some reason
• weak female characters overall (female characters reduced to cooking, serving roles or just falling in love)
• plot holes throughout the story
• main conflict relies on childish miscommunication tropes
• random side characters become more important than the actual main group
• everyone loves the male lead, even the villains
• basically male lead x everyone
• weak villains
• main villain introduced too late
• important scenes lose all tension
• bad or pointless reveals
• incomplete character arcs
• new characters added without proper introduction
• existing characters get forgotten and dropped
• ending rewinds time and makes everything that happened feel pointless
Overall, this drama looks and sounds nice, but its wasted potential, weak male and female characters, and overpowered male lead make it a frustrating watch.
Expected more from Teng Ping but it is what it is.

Long and drawn out story - disappointing
As a seasoned cdrama fan of 9 years now when I watch one and if it takes me to the end but it drags on to get there then something is not right with it AND i found that with this cdramaa. The main character died so many times I lost count, even for a Xanxia it was overkill of killing the ML. The story was tolerable from beginning but it lost its momentum in the 3rd quarter of episodes when the baddy was reformed, but the real baddy still went on to do his stuff, but then the ML gets to die so many times and it just loses its plausability after that. A great supporting cast, and loyalties among the fractions was great, each actor played their part well, Jeremy Tsu and Leo Lunxi, Alan Feng, all did their roles some honour as seasoned actors would. The biggest disappiointment fo rme was the dragging out of the story to cover 40 episodes , it would have been justfiable to the storyline and the supposed conclusions aimed for quity it at 36 or even 32 episodes. So not a totally great cdrama for me this one even though had masses of potential to be a stunner if the storyline plot wasn't dragged out toooooooooo looooooongWas this review helpful to you?
Stunningly beautiful LYX, a lot of CGI, promising idea... and that's all?
I've been waiting for this drama for too long, so I'm writing this review out of frustration. I think LYX is probably the best costume drama actor in China nowadays, and he deserves better - as well as we the audience holding expectations towards Chinese entertainment.Generally speaking, the drama is not bad and definitely watchable, LYX character portrayal is perfect and very enjoyable to watch, the visuals are a top notch, the costumes stunning, many charismatic actors in the cast, but...
The story is good, but the script is not. The production team wasted too much effort on the visual aspect of the drama, putting the scenario aside. As a result, the storytelling is missing a "storytelling thrill", a lot of dialogs seem very unnatural and empty, and due to the director's decisions, the screenplay is deprived of something essential to make the audience immerse into the world of the drama. The world itself is filled with too much OP elements that ruin its value as a wuxia drama setting. No cultivation cost, no power limits, no ability level logics, most of the visual effects are an obvious show-off. All of this stems from the excessive CGI usage, half of the screentime is actually a beautiful CG sequence. Can someone take the "CG-technology toy" away from Chinese filmmakers please?
The music, excluding the main theme, was unfortunately neglected by the creators as well, it sounds very generic, often too loud making the dialogs uncomprehensible, and never fitting the action. They better did remove the half of it for all good; I don't feel any investment in this.
The cast is nice, it's obvious the whole thing was set for LYX, and I can't complain. Characters are charismatic, almost each of them brings something unique: Chi Yun with his comical and cute personality; a daring, childishly stubborn miss Zhao; deadly serious and thus sometimes funny Shen Langhun; dramatic and crazy Liu Yan with his beautiful female companion... But the FL! Seriously, what was that? She made me wonder how she actually got the role in such a huge budget project. Her acting skill is like 0, just standing there in each scene staring at whoever is the speaker with opened mouth and meaningless glance (check it, I swear). The actress doesn't feel confident on the set, which is almost palpable, she doesn't understand the character and doesn't know what to do. Actually, the character's portrayal in the script is very weak in the first half of the drama, so the director was seemingly counting on the performer's charisma and creativity - and she failed. Probably, not her role (again, how she even got it?), but I think costume dramas are not her thing. Anyways, I will make sure not to see her again in any other project. Just remember Bai Lu if you think I'm mean.
So, in the nutshell, what we got is what we got, maybe the younger generation will be satisfied. We will never get quality content if all people want is just visuals, and talented actors will never have a chance to write their names into the history of Chinese cinematography. Well, LYX already did actually.

Masterclass in acting
Luo Yunxi is back and this is the best thing what happened to me this year.We have seen Luo Yunxi acting many different characters, but he never fails to amaze us with his talent. I am hardly surprised by how flawlessly he delivers Tang Lici as a martial artist and cunning cultivator, but this time, he's showing us a new side, as the wild little fox with big, innocent eyes. So childish, so lovely, so pure. Hard to believe he was 36 at the time of the filming. In those scenes when he gets upset, he truly delivers masterclass in acting. The teary eyes, trembling lips, all the animalistic, wild instincts showing, the loud crying, like a child. Nobody can pull this off, I am convinced about that.
He is definitely top actor in China.

I wish it has a love story but it didn't have.
Those who enjoy romance or love stories, or who like seeing Luo Yun Xi in love stories, might not be interested in this drama. I liked him in Till the End of the Moon — his acting was top-notch. The way he played two characters in one body — the devil and the deity — was remarkable. Naturally, I expected the same kind of love story in this drama. However, it was a very different story.At first, there is no love story in the drama. If I had known this, I would not have watched the drama in the first place, because I enjoy love stories more. But this does not mean I don’t care about the storyline; I can overlook the absence of a love story if the story is heart-touching. Unfortunately, this drama did not have that.
Secondly, the male protagonist was too focused on his past. Every action of his was connected with previous events, which made the drama a little boring, especially because forty episodes included so many flashbacks — sometimes after every five episodes. Until the end, the male protagonist kept thinking about past moments and his resentments.
When I saw the first short kiss scenes between the leads, my hopes were raised that a love story would develop. But when the female lead left him in the last six episodes, it became clear that this was her final appearance, and their emotional connection ended there.
The only thing I liked about the drama was the acting. From the main characters to the supporting cast, everyone performed amazingly.

A visual feast with substance
Just for once it looks like a drama can actually deliver on the hype that preceded its broadcast. From the very first scene, the visuals are stunning, both in terms of graphics quality and (colour) composition.In the first episode the plot and all actions by the protagonists appear somewhat disjointed which may be a bit confusing, especially to people unfamiliar with the novel or the characters. This is, however, only transitional. As the plot moves on, at a pleasantly fast pace, we are getting to know the main characters and their particular perks so as to anticipate some of their reactions. Meanwhile, the main character, Tang Lici, remains a mystery to both his companions and the audience. It looks like many more secrets are about to be revealed in the coming episodes.
On top of the absolutely breathtaking special effects (there are many) and the luxurious decor and costumes, the major strong point of this drama is its wonderful overall cast with acting heavyweights even in small roles, such as Cui Peng in the role of City Lord (ep. 1+2). ). The main protagonists form a lively trio to keep the viewers amused with their in-jokes and banter while the plot slowly, but steadily pulls them in.

A drama full of beauty
I am not sure if could enjoy the story as much, if it wasn't played by Leo Yun Xi as the main role. But for any reason, I have a really good time watching it. The story line is somewhat unique in some aspects. All the people are beautiful, and also the sceneries.
