Connecting to You Is Colorful, Cute and So Much Fun, From Enemies to Lovers One Thread at a Time

It’s August and we have only had two Taiwanese BLs this year, so I was SO excited for our third one!

As the title suggests, Connecting to You is all about connections. Jiakai has a unique ability to see invisible threads linking people together, with each colour carrying a different meaning.

🟡🧵 Yellow represents friendship
🔵🧵 Blue represents hostility
🩶🧵 Silver Grey represents a connection that has not yet been defined

There are more colours with their own meanings, and what makes this ability even more interesting is that it is not only about the colour. The thickness and solidity of each thread also show how strong the connection is.

I absolutely love this concept. We have seen countless dramas where characters can see ghosts or have supernatural abilities, so seeing someone who can literally see the invisible connections between people feels so refreshing and clever. It gives the story a unique way of exploring relationships.

And the irony is even better. Jiakai can see everyone else’s colourful threads, yet he cannot see a thread connecting himself to anyone. He has become used to being alone and having no connection of his own.

That changes when he meets police officer Dawei.

I am LOVING the enemies to lovers setup between these two. Their first encounter had me laughing so hard. Who on earth takes off all their clothes to save a girl who is about to jump from a rooftop? Jiakai absolutely deserved to get handcuffed by Dawei because that whole situation made him look like a complete pervert! The comedy, awkwardness, and secondhand embarrassment were hilarious.

Then, after several chaotic encounters and plenty of bickering, an unexpected accident brings them even closer. When they accidentally knock their heads together, something incredible happens. For the first time in his life, Jiakai sees a thread connecting him to another person.

And of all people, it is Dawei. 😂

A silver grey thread appears between them, connecting Jiakai to the one person he least expected. 🩶🧵 I love how this supernatural ability is not just there for decoration. It actually becomes part of the romance and gives us a visual way to watch their relationship change.

I also really enjoy the supporting characters, especially Jiakai’s friend Chaonan. He brings so much fun energy to the series and adds another layer of comedy to an already entertaining cast.

Even the police station scenes are enjoyable. This is not a dark police drama filled with violent crimes and murder. Instead, the police setting is used in a much lighter and more playful way, which fits the overall tone of the series perfectly.

One of my favourite things about Connecting to You is the atmosphere. The comedy works without becoming painfully cringe, the music is fun, the visuals are colourful, and the entire series has such a bright and cheerful feeling. It is genuinely the kind of BL that can instantly lift your mood.

The production and visuals are also really good. I especially love the anime style opening. It gives the series an extra bit of personality and immediately tells you that this is going to be something different.

And of course, Jiakai and Dawei are both ridiculously cute and adorable. Their chemistry is already so much fun to watch, and I cannot wait to see how their relationship develops.

It has the perfect balance of comedy, romance, fantasy, fun music, colourful visuals, and a genuinely unique story concept.

Most importantly, I cannot wait to see what happens to that thread between Jiakai and Dawei. Will their connection continue to change? Will it become stronger? And when will they finally realise what is happening between them? ❤️

Connecting to You is definitely going on my recommendation list. If you enjoy cute romance, comedy, fantasy, enemies to lovers, and BLs with a unique concept, please give this one a try. You won’t regret it!

That was novel and cute...

For a change not the typical 08/15 BL we already know, a new concept which was interesting. Jiakai sees the "threads" connecting people, be it enemies, lovers, friends or undefined ones. The only thread he can't see is his own, because he does not have one - which is a bit strange, because he clearly loves his grandma and grandma loves him - so it makes no sense that he has none. But we will overlook this little "phopah" (faux pas) for the sake of the story.

Due to circumstances he meets the police officer Dawei who is hostile to him and accuses him to be a "perverted student". While this is a comedy, it also has it's depths. Both characters approach each other with a certain curiosity and certain distance. Jiakai has a very hard time to deal with Dawei, because he does not believe in any supernatural things at all.

The final episodes are especially heart-warming, but the finale does not feel like a finale because, drum roll: There will be a special episode which will hopefully give us the end the characters and we the viewers do deserve.

So all in all, this was a fun watch, it was interesting and it was not boring. The side character is more or less the comic relief but he is not even close to be annoying as so many thai characters I remember. If you wish for something light, something which will distract you from the shit happening on this world, that's the right series to watch!

the romance between the leads uh its cute IT IS CUTE theyre adorable but its like their relationship was all over the place
at first they had great tension ,until they kissed (the kiss was probably the only good thing throughout the whole thing) after they kissed their relationship made no sense they didnt confirm/confess anything the tension was almost non existent as well as their chemistry it felt different or idk did i just get bored? AND THAT ANNOYED ME CAUSE I WAS HERE FOR THE ROMANCE

Threads of love…longing for more

The series finally ended and it’s giving me a bit of melancholy, after all these two have grown on me. Bruce Chiu and Liu Yu Ren carried this story with heart. Bruce’s Chia Kai, a neurodivergent thread-seeing seer, could have easily become a caricature, but he made him wonderfully human…adorable, perceptive, and expressive in ways that often said more than dialogue. Liu Yu Ren gave Ta Wei the appropriate toughness of a police officer while revealing the wounded, layered man shaped by abuse. Watching their story unfold was a joy.

Call it bromance or BL, it does not really matter. There were no NC scenes and no intense kisses, yet their closeness, charm, and chemistry felt more genuine than in many series that try much harder. The love was already there…in the way they protected, understood, and chose each other. For two actors stepping outside their usual comfort zone, that emotional intimacy was simply great acting.

The finale revealed what the story had quietly been building toward. “Whatever problems we face in the future, we face them together” is not merely encouragement…it is love in its most honest form. And perhaps a special episode will finally give this couple what the series intentionally held back…the space to let that romance breathe.

Ms. Peggy was my favorite character. As a student of psychology, she reminded me of my own teachers…wise, observant, and always seeing what lies beneath the surface. Episode 11’s discussion of the Zeigarnik effect, how our minds hold on to unfinished tasks, may be more than a psychological lesson. Maybe it is the show’s little Easter egg that Chia Kai and Ta Wei’s unfinished romance still has a few threads left to weave.

Ties That Bind.

I loved the concept and execution. I particularly liked that, like the threads, the story had a spine but also drifted along to the conclusion on it's own beat. The trauma felt was depicted with enough weight to be serious but also light enough to fit within the comedic aspect.

While Kai and Wei worked well together, I'm grateful it was not a romance that needed chemistry but connectivity. This it had in buckets. Just like the characters were not similar so to were the episodes and most resolved within each.

Grandma and Noanan were good people. Grandma wanting him to live his own life and Choanan, a wacky good friend. I was impressed that he never wanted to exploit Kai abilities.

The only thing that I would have changed would have been the kiss. Actually, I would have added another, showing where it was a real choice and not a lapse in judgement. Also, I needed Kai to smile more. A real cutie when he did.

Probably it's a culture thing but why couldn't Wei charge his father with assault with extortion and allowed it to continue. He was scared and traumatized but also a police officer. At some point he had to face it.

A decent watch.

Following the Threads, A Colorful Beginning and Lackluster Finish. They had me in the first half.

First, I absolutely love this concept. I think it's a unique take on a paranormal aspect and there is so much promise in the idea that Chiakai could see not just the kind of ties others have, but the strength of those ties. So, I went into this with excitement, but very few expectations beyond the fact that I typically enjoy Taiwanese dramas.

I feel like it's most important to start with the chemistry. This is a romantic drama, so I do have expectations around chemistry, intimacy, and the build up. I love a slow burn, so the first half of this drama was delicious to me. I thought their chemistry was good and I absolutely loved the way Dawei was always entering Chiakai's space and calling him that perverted nickname. I thought that was successful, especially for the build up.

However, in the end, there were a lot of holes in the romance department. I know, I know, romance isn't all about the kisses, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect kissing and intimacy in a drama that attempted to set up sexual tension and attraction in the first half. The tiger sound effects whenever Chiakai saw Dawei's body, the way Dawei looked at Chiakai's body, their proximity to one another, that nameless pull. The fact that the only kiss we were given was a drunken one leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I also have qualms with the evolution of their relationship. Most of it appears to happen off screen and only through implication! No real confession, no conversations around status, no intimacy beyond a few hugs that could have been between friends. Their chemistry that was doing so much good, heavy lifting in the first half completely fell flat in the second half. This is a romance so I expect the romance to be the central feature of the drama. It seemingly fell to the wayside.

"People are too obsessed with wanting to see characters kiss or have NC scenes." Well it's a romance and I do have expectations that the romance is going to be visible. I'm not demanding NC scenes, but I'm asking for something beyond a drunken kiss. It's disappointing and I think we deserve better than that.

Beyond the romance itself, I was also disappointed that the threads did not play a bigger role. It was the star of the plot, and it felt like they really had little relevance beyond a few key moments. I loved the soulmates implication between Chiakai and Dawei, but the shoelaces felt lazy and like an afterthought. I wish there had been something more significant tying them to each other, given that Chiakai ended up seeing a new color thread connecting them to each other. The soulmateism could have been off the charts.

Something that I thought they did well was Dawei's storyline. That is, up until its conclusion in the last episode. It felt like they were rushing to tie up loose ends and it ended up losing its impact in the process. Forcing it into the last episode also limited the romantic arc.

I know I have a lot of criticisms, but I'm serious when I say that the first 6-7 episodes were really good to me. I enjoyed watching them, I even enjoyed rewatching them until the next episode came out. But that second half was really suffering in pacing, logic, and lack of commitment to the romance of the drama. Maybe more time would have fixed those issues, whether it be longer episodes or more episodes.

I love Dawei, I love Chiakai, and I love their connection to one another. Even with my criticisms, I think I'll remember and revisit this drama fondly.

A Clever Premise, a Lovely Slow-Burn Romance, and a Slightly Flat Finish

I really loved Connecting to You for most of its run. It has a genuinely interesting supernatural premise, a sweet and very natural romance, enough story outside the romance to keep things moving, and two leads whose relationship develops so gradually that at some point I realized they had basically become a couple before either of them had actually said so.

Lin Chia Kai has been able to see colored threads connecting people for most of his life. Different colors represent different relationships—love, friendship, family, hostility—but although he can see everyone else’s connections, he has never had a thread of his own. Then he meets police officer Wu Dawei and suddenly, for the first time, there is one.

What I especially liked is that the thread concept is much more than a cute romantic gimmick. Chia Kai’s ability becomes useful in the different situations he encounters through Dawei’s police work, but it also has limitations. Seeing a connection between people does not mean Chia Kai understands everything about them, and his tendency to jump in and help people sometimes gets him into trouble. The series keeps adding new dimensions to the supernatural element without letting it overwhelm the human stories.

The romance was easily my favorite part. Chia Kai and Dawei start out on very bad footing, then gradually become friends, coworkers, roommates, and something much more intimate long before either one is prepared to name it. Their relationship grows through ordinary things: cooking, watching movies, waiting for one another after work, going out together, worrying about each other, arguing about things couples argue about, and quietly becoming part of one another’s daily lives. It never felt like the drama was screaming, “LOOK! ROMANCE!” at me. It just happened.

I also thought the acting and characterization were very good, particularly the physical characterization of Chia Kai. His awkward posture, strange little walk, unfortunate bangs, and tendency to make himself physically smaller all fit someone who has spent his life feeling disconnected from everyone around him. That made his gradual sense of belonging with Dawei feel even more meaningful.

Where the drama lost some momentum for me was in the final two episodes. The material itself was important, especially as we finally learned much more about Dawei and his family history, and I appreciated that the series gave him the opportunity to confront something that had affected him since childhood. But trying to introduce and resolve so much of his history in roughly forty minutes made the ending feel rushed and oddly flat. I actually found myself pausing episode 11 to do something else, which had not happened once during the earlier episodes.

There is nothing wrong with the ending. It is emotionally positive, the major relationship questions are resolved, and I was happy with where Chia Kai and Dawei ended up. It simply did not have quite the same energy, charm, or emotional pull that the earlier episodes had for me.

Even with that weaker finish, I really enjoyed this drama. It is warm, funny, sweet, occasionally touching, and built around a supernatural idea that actually contributes something to the story. Most importantly, Chia Kai and Dawei’s relationship felt earned.

Rating: 8/10, possibly 8.5 depending on what the special episode gives us.

After eight episodes, Connecting to You has become one of my favorite currently airing dramas.

The premise is immediately interesting: Lin Chia Kai can see colored threads connecting people, with each color representing a different kind of relationship—love, friendship, family, hostility. The one thing he has never been able to understand is why everyone around him has these connections while he has none of his own. Then he meets police officer Wu Dawei, and for the first time in his life, a thread appears.

What makes the series work so well for me, though, is that the supernatural premise is not simply a gimmick used to create a romance. Chia Kai’s ability becomes part of a larger story involving police cases, people in difficult situations, questions about trust and motive, and the consequences of getting involved in other people’s lives. His ability gives him information, but it does not make him all-knowing, and some of the most interesting moments come when what he sees and what he assumes are not quite the same thing.

The romance develops just as naturally. Chia Kai and Dawei go from mutual irritation to working together, living together, and gradually settling into an unexpectedly domestic relationship. There is no sudden declaration that they are in love. Instead, the intimacy accumulates almost quietly—shared meals, waiting for each other after work, watching movies, worrying about one another, small acts of care—until you realize they are behaving very much like a couple even though neither has named it yet.

That slow progression is probably my favorite part. Dawei seems to understand his feelings earlier, while Chia Kai takes longer to recognize what is happening, and the supernatural thread between them evolves alongside the relationship rather than simply dictating it.

The show is lighter than some of the dramas I usually rate most highly, but “lighter” does not mean empty. It is funny, warm, occasionally touching, and has enough story beyond the romance to keep me genuinely interested in what happens next.

Eight episodes in, I absolutely love it—and now I have the unfortunate problem of having binged every available episode and having to wait for more.

Starts with a weak thread.

This is one of those series that has a very weak beginning, but eventually gets better by each episode. Overall, this was good. I just wish the script was more developed. Even though it did a good job setting up the general story premise, the first two episodes were ruff around the edges. It got better by the third episode, but it continues to switch back and forth from being ok to somewhat cringe (not in a good way for me). However, the last few episodes were great and wish the other episodes had the same level of quality. Although frail at first, it did give enough to get me connected to many of the characters to make me want to continue. Nevertheless, I was not a fan how they introduced the two main characters. This was funny at times, but the humor was a little to slapstick for me. The cast was great and did a nice job making what they were given work. The cinematography was nice.

For Viki views – Starting after episode 1, Don’t blink or you’ll miss it! There is an additional scene involving a side character but you won't see it if you let it automatically go to the next episode. It doesn’t have any real connection to the storyline, but it is funny and informative.

I picked up Connecting to You completely on a whim yesterday as I wanted something quick and easy to get through, it was on Viki, I hadn't seen it, I looked at the summary and was like sure why not. So once again to say the least I went in not really knowing what to expect other than it being BL and that threads connected people… and honestly, I didn’t expect to enjoy it like I did. So, a small thing about this, I went in because the idea of the threads was interesting. So, I went in expecting cute threads that's it. And boy it was indeed cute.

The story has such a lovely balance between touching and humour. There was great humour in it, like in the first couple mins of the first episode, mans in half naked on the roof to same someone. But then there's also at the same time, the emotional and psychological side of the story adds so much more depth, the feeling of wanting a connection when he has never had one. So loads of cute moments.

I must say this as well when I wrote this review. I love chemistry I watch anything if the chemistry is coated, and Jia kai and Da wei? They didn't disappoint whatsoever in. Their chemistry is so much fun to watch. And they are cute. I was actively smiling at points. 5,4,3,2,1 heheheh. Cute.
It really felt like the show has found this perfect mix of comedy, romance, fantasy elementd, emotional moments, colourful visuals.
So, yes it was far from original IMO since the res string of fate I have read so many books and seen so many shows that does this. BUT they top it differently in a way. I liked that. So if you like cute fun moments and an interesting fantasy minor plot can def recommend this one.

A Breath of Fresh Air - Adorable, Sweet and Mature

Ahhh.. it’s been a while since I last watched such a cute and mature Taiwanese BL (or any BL). This is a very quick and lovely binge, since the episodes are short.

Lin Chia Kai, a psychology college student, has the ability to see different colored threads connecting people. This ability can definitely cause major inconveniences in his everyday life, but he can also use this ability to help people (or not). “Connecting to You” showed us a few situations to get to know him, and people around him.

The drama moves at a decently-fast pace. Each individual story is short and interesting, and doesn’t give you a feeling that this is an episodic drama. For each story, it helps us get to know Chia Kai, how he grows as a person and his relationship with cop Wu Ta Wei.

The romance is slow-burn but so cute. The leads have great chemistry, and their interactions are fun. I like both of their acting but find I am more attracted to Liu Yu Ren and his portrayal of a standup cop, and an introverted romantic interest. I love his subtle facial expression with a grin, a smile, and quiet longing looks. If you have watched enough Taiwanese BL, you know they are not shy with showing skinship. The romance here is a little more PG or PG-13. We have one excellent kiss, and a few warm and lovely hugs. Don’t expect Taiwan’s famous steamy scenes. Ok, I might want one or two more kisses, but I am OK without the steamy scenes, since that would not be the right tone for this cute show.

Taiwanese humor is a hit-or-miss for me and I am going into this with a side of caution. No worries, my friends. I love the comedy here. The supporting cast is hilarious without being over-the-top. The female cop, professor and grandma are the best. Every single character is absolutely adorable and supportive. There is also some more subtle humor here and there, to contrast the ‘louder’ ones.

The tone of the drama does change to a more serious one towards the last few episodes when we get to know the family background and stories more. “Connecting To You” didn’t really go deep into these stories. It doesn’t have time, nor will it be appropriate as that would not be the fun comedy it sets out to be. It just gives us enough to understand the leads. This could be a plus or minus for you.

There’s only one thing that bugged me enough to note down. Lin Chia Kai telling his best friend about Wa Ta Wei’s father issue. I think that is uncalled for, especially when it took so long for Ta Wei to open up. That’s a secret that is not Chia Kai’s place to share.

Lastly, don’t miss out on the fun psychology podcast/lecture from the hilarious professor in the epilogues. Her podcast is educational yet not boring. I especially like the real-life examples that she uses so the general audience can relate to.

“Connecting To You” is a breath of fresh air in the BL world. It’s sweet, cute, funny and mature at the same time. I’m so glad to wait and binge all 12 episodes. After finishing this drama, it puts me in a good mood, so I can continue on with the rest of the toxic relationships in other dramas.

The perfect cozy feel-good BL for a rainy day

Connecting to You is a lighthearted, pleasant feel-good series that is absolutely perfect for a rainy day. It focuses on being cute, cozy, and comforting from start to finish.

The story delivers a classic romance between two opposite characters. While it does not fully follow the typical enemies-to-lovers trope, it definitely captures that charming dynamic. The pacing is a bit on the slower side, but it remains thoroughly enjoyable. Naturally, some classic misunderstandings are thrown into the mix, which causes it to take some time before the leads finally choose each other in the end.

While the fantasy element regarding the threads can feel a bit inconsistent at times, the show completely makes up for it with its bright, cheerful atmosphere and fun humor. If you are looking for a simple, heartwarming, and well-executed comfort show in the lighthearted feel-good genre, this one is a great watch.
