A fabulous melodrama

By the end of the first episode a premise is established, and you might wonder why one would want to watch this show if they are going to stick to this premise to the bitter end. Well, they do stick to the premise all the way, but mange to stick the landing about as well as one could hope. Along the way there are a couple of surprises that are also quite moving, and there are good, uplifting themes that provide warmth and light in what otherwise would make for a pretty dire story arc.

It is the story of a boy named Sun (Taiyo) and a girl named Rain (Ame) who fall in love in high school and promise to meet again once they achieve their respective dreams. Eight years later Ame returns to town and neither of their aspirations have been fulfilled. It is a story of sacrifice and love for the pair at the center of the story and for their families. Over the course of the series they have to face an unquestionably terrible fate in their near future mediated by two mysterious supernatural beings who have been chosen by the heavens to witness the story as it unfolds.

It does end up being a bit of a crying contest between Yamada Yuki (Taiyo) and Nagano Mei (Ame). I prefer Nagano as a comedian, but she can cry on cue apparently effortlessly, and so she often gets booked for these kind of roles. Here she manages to bring her bright personality and charm to the character which goes a long way to preventing this series from being the emotional slogfest that you might expect it to be given the premise. Yamada has the more stoic role to fulfill, and he does match Nagano tear for tear in the scenes that call for it. The pair have a solid chemistry together, and they have a nice romantic arc, but that romance pretty much has to be sexless because of the set up.

It bears mentioning that the series is beautifully shot with consistently excellent blocking and composition. They have chosen a color grading that makes almost all of the daytime shots feel like golden hour which also helps to keep the series from feeling dire and grey.

If you like melodramas, and want a good cry, then this series is probably exactly what you're looking for. I tend to avoid melodramas as a genre and tend to think that they can be emotionally manipulative for little payoff other than the tears. And so I was pleasantly surprised that this series had a bit more depth than merely saying "life sucks and then you die". And so I'd say the series is also well worth the watch for anyone looking for a nice little fable about love and pinky-swears.

Ame best girl

Mei Nagano acting is just a whole different level, she even talk with her eye...the plot just like regular romance fantasy sickness-related (Shizoutabetai, ShigatsuUso etc) movie but with more mature problem. The scene is top notch, the music is pretty good. The ending little bit meh for me but changing it also bad for the overall series.

Good Enough

Japanese Drama '' Kimi ga kokoro wo kuretakara '' is a melodrama with a tragic love story.

The drama does have a tragic story, but it handles it wonderfully, with many sweet moments and heartwarming romance.

Also, the drama didn't focus only on the main story-idea, but expanded to explore other themes, like the meaning of our six senses and how they are connected to our memories.

The couple, in addition, had plenty of chemistry, which aided the series a lot.

The performances were, finally, all great by everyone in the cast, but, especially, the main leads were superb and handled their emotional scenes masterfully.

So, overall, seven and a half out of ten.

Emotional one

The drama was incredibly emotional, especially in the last episodes where the male lead's helplessness and tears moved me to tears as well. His portrayal of pain was so convincing that I truly felt the character's anguish. Despite the sadness of the ending, it provided closure to the story in a poignant manner. It was disheartening to see that despite being together since childhood, the characters never expressed their feelings for each other until it was too late. Nonetheless, it was a profoundly touching story. I would recommend it to those who don't mind a sad ending. The acting was exceptional and I also appreciated the portrayal of the male lead's sister character.

best show

The drama was an absolute masterpiece, and I couldn't tear myself away from it, watching it all in one day. I've never felt compelled to review a show before, but this one touched me deeply. The last episode had me in tears, like a floodgate opening up. The actors' performances were beyond incredible, and their chemistry was palpable. The storyline itself was a journey that gripped my heart and taught me a profound lesson: not all endings are what we expect, but sometimes, they're even more beautiful in their complexity. The sacrifices made by both lovers, fulfilling their promises to each other, painted a picture of a rare and breathtaking love story. To the writers and directors, thank you for crafting such a poignant masterpiece and allowing us to witness its beauty.

Once you're past the story's pivotal point it is beautiful

Once you accept the miracle for what it is (an intervention from the heavens, that cannot be observed with science/medicine), the rest of this series was so incredibly good (and sad). It's a story of self-discovery through trials and tribulations. Both Ame and Taiyo experience their own hardships as they grow as humans and as a couple. There were some surprises I didn't see coming. Tragic yet beautiful ending to the series. I haven't cried this much since 1 Litre of Tears!

I have a feeling I am going to regret watching it but so far it’s interesting.

I am not sure if January is the right month to watch another jdrama for me but the story is really interesting so I am giving it a chance. I have a feeling this one is going to hurt pretty badly and I am kinda excited for it.
Just imagine giving your heart like that. I think it's way worse than dying tbh. So I am kinda curious how is the story going to go from here. I love when the mood is kinda melancholic from the beginning and I am sure it going to get more heavy as soon as she starts losing her senses. I kinda wonder how the hell is she supposed to live after that tho…
