He Yu (Jin Zhao): Ini adalah peran terobosan bagi He Yu.

Uncomfortable, borderline creepy

Why I dropped this series

1 The FL was awful here and she didn't know how to act as a young woman so she made me me cringe a million times and I felt uncomfortable since she reminded me of a 12 years old. I also hated her voice to the point I wanted to mute her. This coming from someone who adores her in other series, rom coms and historical dramas. So weird that she made me feel this way here.

2 The ML. If that's what people find attractive these days, well, I have nothing to say. He wasn't attractive to me and not talented either. I didn't care about his character either.

3 No chemistry between the leads which is maybe a good thing since their relationship was creepy to me.

4 The message the series vehicles. Young women are stupid and it's fine. NO IT'S NOT.

5 Tried too hard to make us believe there was a story somewhere and characters with something to say. Guess what? Not if you're an adult.

6 I can't believe the same director who did Love is Sweet one of my favorite series did this crappy drama. On the other hand not everyone has the charm of Bai Lu and the ML is Love is Sweet. Funnily enough I hated this couple as much as i hated the 2nd couple in Love is Sweet. Same uncomfortable vibes.

Performative and lame

Halfway through episode 8, and I decided to drop the show. I really love Esther a lot, and don’t mind her cute characters at all, BUT even if she is supposed to be 19 in the show… some of the things Jiang Mu does to get close to Jin Zhao are too much for me. It’s a little cute at first, but after a while it’s just annoying. The people who say, “Well, that’s how it’s written!”, … you need higher standards, because Jiang Mu is borderline infantilizing herself, and it’s just not that cute to be honest! (And just because it's written that way, doesn't mean that it's good!) Also, sometimes the styling is too cutesy, Esther is a gorgeous, gorgeous woman, but she does not pass as 19, so some of the hairstyles and clothing just look a little too young on her.

While I really do like the cinematography, the OST, and the use of colors to help with storytelling, I just… don’t feel the vibes at all. This show feels so performative, every shot is meant to make everyone look cool, hot, and sexy—but in a way that feels disingenuous and fake. Like, you can tell that this is a show and that their actions are being directed and filmed, it’s not immersive at all. Also, it’s corny as hell: “I hate cream the most”… girl. WHO put that in the script!? The fight and race scenes are cool, but at the same time… eh, I don’t know. Since everyone is acting so “cool”, it ends up looking lame as hell to me. This feels like a really badly done web drama with a run-time of 5 minutes per episode. Some of the characters feel like caricatures, i.e., Wan Qing, the “baddie” girl bullying people, but lowkey just ends up looking embarrassing and desperate; Jin Zhao, the bad boy with a soft heart; the racer dudes … Lin Sui and Liang Yan Feng, who act and look like wannabe posers; Na Na… I don’t know, she’s just weird AND her advice sucks; the step-“mom” is also weird, I don’t like her (sorry, this just turned into a rant!🤭) It’s the end of the year, and I just don’t have the will or patience to dedicate my time to something half-baked and performative like this show. It’s good when you want to turn your brain off for a little, but it’s just too corny to withstand for me right now. Bummer.

Turns out it's not much of a bad boy/good girl romance after all . . .

If you are hoping for quite dark, twisted soul to the bad boy, with lots of tortured twists and turns, this isn't for you. He's 'bad' in the sense that he races cars and knows martial arts, but he has good morals, ethics, and takes care of everyone the whole way through. There is no doubt that he is a good soul trying to navigate a difficult situation.

Our good girl is a heart of gold good girl but one with enough of a bite to be endearing. Sweet and naive, but competent enough in martial arts, racing cars, and not backing down from a fight to be a competent match for our bad boy.

The plot is repetitive. Car chase scenes without the huge investment of say Fast & the Furious, get boring after awhile - they can't afford to risk the cars, get the stunt drivers, or invest in the visual graphics needed to do truly cool car stunt effects.

Worst of all: the bad boy/good girl tension drops out rapidly because well . . he isn't a bad boy. There's no reason for her to stay away from him, and he spills the truth of his situation fairly easily.

The chemistry, especially the physical chemistry between the leads is amazing, and I feel like if the plotting had more tension in it it could be a rewarding watch. I kept this on the back burner for a slow period thinking I could pick it up again . . . but I can't the plot just isn't holding my interest.

I'm dropping.

PEAK CHEMISTRY BETWEEN MCs with a wattpad-esque plot

The plot is a bit wattpad-y but overall, it was alright. There were some scenes where it was just impossible to happen in real life LOL and the editing for this drama... let's just say it was really bad. The low-ish ratings for this drama is mainly because of the taboo/forbidden romance trope where they're like step-siblings (kindof not really). If you're thinking of starting it but is weirded out because of the relationship dynamic, it gets cleared out pretty early into the drama maybe like uhh episode 3/4? And once you know it, its really not that bad. Its like childhood friends to lovers core... except he knew her since she was born? But really, its not that bad at all.

He Yu and Esther's acting and chemistry.... LET ME TELL YOU, THEY'RE LITERALLY PERFECT TOGETHER. AND SOME SCENES WERE SO STEAMY LIKE I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT WHATSOEVER I FELT LIKE I WAS THIRDWHEELING FS. THE TENSION WAS INSANE. Both of them got me giggling, kicking my feet, and screaming into my pillow fr.

Also, IMO, I didn't particularly enjoy the super long timeskip. I see why it was added but idk its just a bit unlikely how she would wait six years for a man that ghosted her ygm. Well, if I'm actually thinking about it... she did wait like ten years to see him before so ig six years is nothing LOL.

The racing scenes weren't exactly my forte and I wish they showed more of Jiang Mu's knowledge of cars. In one of the episodes, she helped fix a car that the two guys couldn't figure out and in a few other episodes she was literally fighting and drifting/driving (fast) cars. I felt like her car-expertise was seriously overlooked and they could've expanded so much more on that aspect. I think they did cut the drama from 40 eps to 29 so ig that might be why we didn't see much of Jiang Mu in this type of scene... dang.

The thai dubbing was INSANE... well it was alright for some scenes but I just can't get over how bad it was LOL dubbing THAI actors whilst their speaking thai was just crazy. I honestly almost dropped the drama because of how bad the dubbing was but I was hooked with the MCs so I stayed <3. Good thing I did though!

As for the ending... idk. I enjoyed the scenes when Jin Zhao and the mom reconnected and all that but idk the skip to the wedding was just so fast. And Snakey coming back as a bridesmaid?! They cut too many scenes out for us to understand the plot lol I wish they showed more of the side characters like after Jiang Mu left Thailand Snakey and Nana weren't in any scenes whatsoever. Like I get why they weren't shown since technically they're still in Thailand but like come onnnn. Just give us a little something if you're planning on bringing them back as the MC's bridesmaids lol.

Lastly, I just want to mention how much I enjoyed watching San lai's character. He's so funny, reliable, and just overall a great guy. My king should've gotten a few more scenes in the latter episodes lol Fei Qi Ming did a great job portraying this character. I will be keeping an eye on him lol. Oh, He Yu too! I realized I've never watched any of his dramas so I will be looking into that as well.

Side note: Jiang Mu's outfits in this drama?!?!?! PEAK The stylist knew what they were doing fs she looks so good like in every outfit. I'm glad they didn't make her wear ugly clothes lol.

Obsessed

I'm obsessed with this drama. I'm watching it again and again and again. The storyline is good. The male lead is flawless. I loved him in My Fated Boy as well. The racing scenes and fighting are all good.
Watch on your risk as it will disturb your peaceful life and make you delulu.

If you are here to knwo if it's worth watching. The answer is YES. You can watch it again and again. Some cons I noticed you can read it after watching the drama:

Cons:
There are some direction and editing mistakes. I'm not an expert I can only tell the story line is great, the actors are great but you'll find some avoidable flaws due to direction mistakes that may annoy you a bit bcz for just a great drama it's a loss.
I think if they had taken care of the direction mistakes this drama would be 1000/10.
Now it is 100/10.

Delivered everything I was hoping for

It was refreshing to see a different side of Ester Yu and she was paired brilliantly with He Yu who was the reason I came to this drama.

I knew from what she said at the outset on the plane that this was going to be good. Everything she described him as was so polar opposite to what she found and this drama did not disappoint as they clashed and crashed their way through their mental and emotional issues to seek out their happy ending which was great to see in a plot that made me laugh, cry and want to bash their heads together. Perfect Romcom

Would I watch again? Absolutely

I love how Yu Shuxin's protrayed her character here, I love how she's in dept with her character and how she showed Jiang Mu's innocence to the harsh reality of the world to her growing up and maturing, the way that she showed that Jiang Mu wasnt some little kid and that she was a grown woman, her resilience even though people kept lying to her; Yu Shuxin played her beautifully.

Mastered what few can was exciting and thrilling yet deeply emotional and romantic

Speed and Love is an absolute standout for me. There were a couple of very minor elements that weren't entirely to my taste, but they were so insignificant that they didn't impact my rating at all. This is easily one of the best dramas I've watched in recent years, delivering a perfect mix of high-energy action, heartfelt romance, and nuanced family drama.

One aspect that impressed me in particular was the extraordinary work by the hair, wardrobe, and makeup teams in portraying the characters at different ages. It was hands-down the most convincing de-aging and aging I've ever seen in a drama. Esther Yu as Mu Mu looked so convincingly youthful in the early episodes that I genuinely thought they had cast a younger actress, despite recognizing her from other projects. The transition to older versions felt completely natural—huge credit to everyone involved.

Some viewers have critiqued Esther Yu's early portrayal of Mu Mu as overly cutesy, silly, or clingy, but I feel that's missing the cultural context. In many modern Chinese dramas, characters in their early 20s are shown as still very sheltered and childlike under heavy parental influence, which reflects real societal expectations rather than any acting misstep. Esther Yu perfectly captured a character who is both intentionally youthful and younger than the actress's real age. I have seen other series with her in them such as "Ski Into Love" but I expect a certain percentage of women would be that way in reality in a cultural context where young women are expected to remain pure, be careful about interactions with the opposite sex, and so that "cutesy" behavior aligns with that well. I think you either don't mind it or you do. For me, so far, I have liked many of the series she has been in so she must pick good roles.

The chemistry between Mu Mu and the male lead was electric—truly sizzling without ever feeling gratuitous or overly sexualized. I also adored the friend group; the male lead's best friend was especially endearing toward Mu Mu. He clearly could have been romantically interested in her if she wasn't his best friend's love interest, but that just increased the romantic tension. The whole garage crew treated her like a treasured little princess in the most charming way. The stepmother was a refreshing standout too—genuinely kind and supportive without being pushy or overbearing, which is rare for that archetype.

The early adrenaline-fueled sequences involving boxing and racing brought thrilling excitement, giving the first half a distinct high-octane energy that complemented the more emotional second half beautifully.

Mu Mu was a wonderfully balanced female lead who asserted herself firmly when needed without ever going overboard, while the male lead's growth made it clear he would become a devoted partner who had truly learned from past mistakes. Their shared thrill-seeking streak shone through in a hilarious, perfectly fitting ending that felt earned and true to their personalities.

This drama has it all and executes every element with heart and polish.

Spoilers

One slight disappointment was the choice to have the family and the male lead's best friend withhold the truth about his condition after the accident. The "we're doing this for your own good" trope isn't my favorite, but it was thoughtfully redeemed later when Jin Zhao stressed that true partners face difficult things together rather than alone. The only small missing piece was Mu Mu directly confronting the others and receiving proper apologies, but that felt minor in the grand scheme.

I thought it was a bit odd the relationship between her besties wealthy cousin and Jin Zhao was interesting and I could never quite figure out what the cousin's intent was. It was clear he admired Jin Zhao and wanted to race him. Or have him on his race team. But he almost seemed romantically interested in him. Which was weird because early on they said he was a playboy. And then for like a second he seemed interested in Mu Mu. He became a close friend with Jin Zhao but there was definitely something strange with it because they never showed cousin being a playboy after that, nor having a relationship, just seeming a bit jealous when Mu Mu and Jin Zhao were first back together.

I appreciated that Mu Mu didn't grant instant forgiveness upon their reunion. She gave him some much-deserved emotional distance—what my family calls "pickle jarring" him (from Lilo & Stitch, where she punishes friends by trapping their dolls in a jar)—for all the pain his absence caused. He earned that brief cold shoulder, yet she didn't drag it out unnecessarily, which kept it realistic and satisfying.

It was touching to see Mu Mu genuinely try moving on with other dates, only to realize no one else measured up. I also wished for more explicit scenes of her father and stepmother fully embracing the couple's relationship, given the layered but ultimately positive dynamic around the father's alcoholism (portrayed compassionately as a disease rather than a moral failing).Mu Mu's evolving bond with her younger half-sister felt authentic—starting with understandable jealousy (especially over the sister's easy closeness with the male lead) before warming into genuine affection. The Canada arc was pure emotional gold. Seeing the male lead decide he wanted to marry Mu Mu and travel there for his mother's blessing was beautiful, especially after the early heartbreak of his mother initially distancing herself and only staying involved because young Mu Mu expressed interest in him. The moment she finally acknowledged projecting her resentment toward his father onto him and embraced him fully as her son was profoundly heartwarming and cathartic—one of the most gratifying payoffs in the entire drama.Once the male lead fully committed, his growth into a thoughtful, devoted husband was unmistakable. I also loved that he channeled his thrill-seeking nature in safer ways without returning to racing, while the final motorcycle getaway—"eloping" after their wedding party got too drunk and slept through their planned wedding—was both hilarious and perfectly in character. Denying everyone the big fancy ceremony as playful payback was such a fun, fitting capstone to their arcs.

Finally, to address some viewer discomfort with their living arrangement feeling quasi-adoptive (the father treating him like a son, Mu Mu viewing him as an older brother figure), and thus weird later when they became romantically involved. They were not blood related. And he was never fully adopted into her family. Her father treated him like a son, she acted toward him like he was an older brother and he treated her like he would a younger sister. It was more friends to lover vibe to me. Especially since they were not even living together for many years after the parents split. I thought it was handled appropriately and never crossed into anything inappropriate.

Everything came together so well that this drama remains a 10/10 for me—highly recommended!

Marvelous

All episodes are excellent especially thy of 14. I was really amazed and submerged by the different variety of emotions. The chinese drama is really soooo good and i watched it again and again.

You all did a great and an excellent work.

Keep it up and hope to see the two main characters in a next coming and as beautiful as SPEED AND LOVE.

Good luck and congratulations

Tension ALOT of tension

I've seen other works of the FL and this one is the one I most love. Great acting both the FL and ML.
The plot was very good. The tension oh my GOODNESS it was everything. The trope felt like right guy, wrong time. After the time skip of FL growing up in Canada, thats when it felt like right guy, right time.
She wasn't even 20 when they met, so I really liked the times skip. I wanted to see how she act when she's mature. San Lai looked soooo handsome after cleaning himself. Both FL and ML did a good job in this drama 10/10⭐️
