What a beautiful drama, everything almost perfect
This is a real gem.Everything in this drama is enjoyable.
We are completely hacked by the story. Both the ML and FL are so handsome and have good acting. they perfectly fit to their rôle and the chemistry is insane. The tension between the 2, their bond is so beautiful to watch.
We are hooked by their fate and desperately wait to see them together. Even the vilain is enjoyable. We are not disturbed by toxic relationships even if some bullying are spread, these are treated in sane way.
Urging to watch the continuation…

Entertaining
I am going to try and keep this short.I love this drama. This is my first time watching Tian Xi Wei. Girl did amazing.
Love ZLH. Liked the secondary couple too especially Deng Kai. The entire cast have amazing talent.
Backdrop:
Aesthetically pleasing. Loved the snowy scenery in the first quarter of the drama. It really set the tone of fl's life and then seeing battle and politics in the other half ... you can see the 180 and how drastically her life changed.
What I liked:
•Fl's gradual progression to becoming what she did
•Fl's love for Ml didn't make her forget herself and her town, her people and others she cared for. Everyone had a place and importance for her.
•Fl's fighting skills
•ZLH's acting was awesome. One moment he was full of tender looks for her and then the next when there's danger or someone was interrupting, they got 'the shooting daggers look'.
•Loved Deng Kai here. Dude looked smoking hot. He was a total red flag character due to his past trauma and there is absolutely no excuses for what his character did because it was wrong but the chemistry he had with Kong Xue Er was awesome.
What I didn't like:
I definitely did struggle on the political side of the story. No lies. I might still not be understanding everything but I got the gist of it.
I felt like there were a tad bit too many characters being spoken about without actually seeing them first or getting much of a chance to get familiar with them at the beginning. I found myself may be guessing or rewinding at times but gradually understood who was who.
What could have been better:
I did find some inconsistency like Fl saying she participated in many battles etc but all in all it was 2 and she was still technically a newbie. I feel like a lot of scenes were cut so may be they did shoot more battle scenes. Some fight scenes were good but the entire final battle scene was a bit lacking. I feel like may be there should have been atleast a few epic ones with the Marquis tbh.
Well, if I feel like that then why did I rate it a 10?
Because no matter what, I still found myself glued to the screen, anticipating episode after episode and actually finished the drama which is quite a feat in my eyes. I didn't realise time was flying when watching the episodes because like what do you mean I watched 40 mins? It felt like 5 mins.
Yes, there were bits lacking but there were also bits that really made me enjoy this show. It's fictional and I reminded myself to not get stressed over these things. I'm watching it for entertainment - not for homework. However, with that being said, I don't want to watch something that's terribly made. This wasn't terrible. It was great. Not perfect but great.
Everyone has their own journey and experience and likings. You may or may not like it. You won't find out until you try it so give it a go.

A Historical Drama That Finally Gets Strong Female Leads Right
First of all, let’s talk about the concept. I’ve actually stopped watching a lot of Chinese historical dramas because of how female leads are often portrayed — sometimes they’re too weak, annoying, or just unnecessarily frustrating to watch. So I lost interest for a while. But then I came across Pursuit of Jade… and it completely changed that for me.
From the very first episode, the female lead, played by Tian Xiwei, came in with such strong, dominant energy. That alone hooked me. She’s not weak, she’s not irritating — she’s capable, bold, and stands her ground.
And the male lead, played by Zhang Linghe, matches her energy perfectly. Both leads are strong in their own ways, and that balance made the story even more enjoyable. It’s not one carrying the other — they grow and stand together.
What I really love is how the drama shows that sometimes the choices we make may not seem right at first, but they turn out to be the best decisions in the end. It also highlights trust, understanding, and not dragging misunderstandings unnecessarily.
Overall, this drama felt refreshing compared to the usual pattern, and that’s what made it stand out for me.”

10/10 for me. Must watch drama.
All the male (excluding Lord Li) & female leads were excellent. Lord Li character wasn't interesting for me.I rewatched the alter ending. After rewatching it I was little confused.
In post credit the alternate ending was - " If the jinzhou massacre wouldn't have happened 17 years ago , how the characters life would have been. " . In post credit the ending is the alternate ending of the current original life of the characters. So in "IF" condition -
[ #1 ] When Fan Changyu & Yu Qian Qian meet for the first time , they felt like they may know each other & they were maybe close friends in past life , &
[ #2 ] When Qi Min & Yu Qian Qian meet for the first time , Qi Min felt connection with her , but after seeing her he started vomiting , because Qi Min things maybe they are never fated to be together.
Both the "IF" conditions are alternate ending of the current life. So how they can feel connections with each other when they meet each other for the first time since it's their alternate current life only.

Zhang Linghe’s Charm and Chemistry Carried the Show
For those wondering, what’s the hype here?Answer: the male lead’s character charm that’s worth “dying” for.
Every close-up shot of ZLH, the romantic scenes, the lines, the insane chemistry with the female lead, his "fatherly" moments with the kid, and all the classic rescuing (英雄救美) moments will have you smiling like an idiot in front of your screen. It’s the typical lonely, cold-blooded guy finding meaning in life after falling in love. Yes, you know it’s cliché, but people still eat it up, myself included. Honestly, this really is ZLH’s prime drama. The director clearly knows how to capture his best angles and make you fall for him.
In terms of plot, there are quite a lot of war scenes, which keeps things exciting through most of the drama, if you like fighting scenes. BUT, I do think it dipped a little towards the end. The climax wasn’t built strongly enough to really hit emotionally, and things got slightly messy when tying everything together. Still, overall it’s good.
As for the female lead (Chang Yu), I really loved her character at the start. She was cute and shy, yet also strong and brave as a butcher. But it kinda lost its charm later on after she became a general. She suddenly has a lot of pride and kept pushing away the male lead’s protective moments. I get that the plot was trying to make her an independent general, but it didn’t fully make sense to me. Honestly, she could have been just as strong as a powerful general’s wife. If you’ve watched other dramas focused on generals, you’ll know that becoming one requires experience in war strategy and leadership, not just the ability to strike and kill. Because of that, the “general” role felt a bit shallow, which is why I’m giving this a 9.0 instead of a full 10.
As for the side roles and stories, I personally didn’t enjoy the second couple’s abusive love dynamic, but I really loved the family and friendship arcs, like the two kiddos, the 杀猪小队 (Butcher Squad), the soldiers of Wu’an Hou, the Grand Tutor, and the villagers. Lastly, an honorable mention goes to Song Yan’s “shaming” scenes, so satisfying!

a truly remarkable drama
[SMALL ROLES]Pursuit of Jade (PoJ) is one of the few dramas that makes you fall in love with not just the main characters but all the small roles that there are.
They gave every small character life, which made them real and very likeable. That's exactly the reason why this drama just feels like a breath of fresh air.
It's been a long while since a drama made me cry, but PoJ did the job for me. They made every death seem real, they made me mourn every single side character throughout the entire drama.
All the actors did an amazing job, every character came to life. I want to separately mention the child actors, they did remarkably. I have never felt so many emotions from such a young actors before.
[MAIN ROLES]
I don't even wanna get started on the insane face cards the main actors have, and their insane chemistry. It's truly one of a kind. This is my first drama of both the main actors and I'm truly impressed. They both made me fall in love with not just their characters but also themselves. I'm definitely watching all their previous dramas next.

It's the CLOY of c-dramas, and it's excellent.
This is top shelf goods, 100% Grade A Premium. You can't please em all. But you can come pretty damn close.
So there are little criticisms to be had everywhere. But to focus on those is nitpicky, because when taken as a whole, this was a mightily satisfying and widely accessible drama, that highlighted all the good things c-dramas have to offer. Much like CLOY does with k-dramas. You can watch it with your friends, with your family, you can rewatch it over and over and it has staying power. Beautiful and funny and powerful iconic scenes created by a visionary director.
Cast was well-chosen, and delivered sincere and elevated performances that played to their strengths. And as usual, Deng Kai nearly stole the show, but this time his acting was on a whole other level of sincerity and depth, and I hope he reaches a new level in his career from this performance because it was EPIC DENG KAI. Pardon my french, but he took this massive A-lister production, and made it his bitch. And I mean that in the best possible way. I'm just so enthusiastic about his performance here that it moves me to expletives. Like if Deng Kai were your favorite hockey team and they just won the stanley cup. He was so great.
Usually I get into pros and cons of a drama when I review it. And then I say who I would recommend it for.
But with this one, it's honestly useless to list pros and cons, because I would recc this to literally just about anybody. And you can find out the pros and cons for yourself while you watch and form your own opinions, but however you walk away from this drama after watching it, it is NOT a waste of time. Its really effin good.
9/10 Because crowd-pleasers have to please everybody, they take less risks and so I give it one point off for "playing it safe" on a few key things. But other than that, this is about as close to "perfect" as a drama designed for a general audience can get.

Pursuit of The FL Whom The Screenwriter For No Reason Suddenly Turned Into An Background Wallpaper
This drama started brilliantly. The entire 1st half and world buildup in Lin'an was done perfectly to the T. I was really invested in the story, and Changyu was brilliantly portrayed and written. She had nice fighting scenes and her character progressed nicely. The cinematography was just breathtaking. The main leads had natural chemistry and companionship. Later as the story progressed and Changyu found out about the real identity of the male lead, the writing became rushed and Fan Changyu's character was compromised. The screenwriter spoiled the consistency and character progression in FL's character for the comedic relief and that is something I am utterly disappointed with. Furthermore, her own journey towards becoming a female general was absolutely butchered. Her character regressed and as a viewer, I could not relate to her becoming a general at all. It did not feel natural to me due to the writing. The writing and character progression of her character was sidelined and towards the end, I felt like she was just a general in name only and was reduced to an wallpaper who is the love interest of the ML. The screenwriter gave too much time in the first half and later rushed to compress everything together. The casting though was brilliant and everyone performed brilliantly. Overall, the first half was a beautiful watch and the 2nd half was a decent watch only due to the mindblowing cinematography of the director. Was this review helpful to you?

What a waste of time!
Man i really Thought it would turn out something like The Demon Hunters Romance. At least they'd keep the wukong's legacy of arrogance but what dickhead this character is! This drama should've been named rise of a pig butcher or something. Cause It is. It's her fairy tale and he is just a dumbfuck standing behind and Everytime he fights he gets hurt so bad that it takes months to recover while she takes so many hits as amateur in battle still rises on the next move 🥴 how the fuck do they even like such a thing whare It's mostly showing her knife skills and that slut concubine of Sui Yuanhuai's suffering. Not single character is likeable. I've seen Zheng linghe's drama series before, I've seen her as well but with all that high hope and expectations It's just so irritating man i just couldn’t throw my phone and break it into pieces (It's worth something but they do not) well the sole reason for me to stop watching c-drama is this too powerful womens and dickhead males. Recently there are so many drama series coming out with the same fucking story. I'll just go back and Watch that whisper of fate Again. Even though It's CGI work Isn't good at first but i Don't get bored like this one. Every episode kept thrilling me. Man what a disappointment! In one scene sui yuanhuai got hurt on his right hand and next scene he is hurt on his left hand how the fuck did he Change the wound from one hand to another? And this so called always fuckedup marquis is just charging ahed with all the brute force he got meanwhile his heroin wife is fighting with style such a joke only exist in this fuckedup drama. So many people liked it so i thought Let's try it but this one decision almost ruind my mode. Most importantly I've never seen such amount of sexual explicit scene in one chinese drama! All the villains got lust for women dude this ain't a way yo make them evil It's not what makes audience think he is evil. He is killing people for nothing Isn't something makes him evil. We have some common terms for good and evil and this Doesn't belong to any of them. She felt like slut while he was characterless animal that's it. But i liked there killing people scenes. I mean that's the only side of this drama whare i felt goosebumps.
I Don't see huge distractions and gore stuff in chinese drama but at least i expected some cool actions since It's been praised for having the best action scene but i all i see is her fighting in style and he is just 🙄 with all the disappointment and respect for there hard work BYE 🤬

A must watch.
Been waiting for this show since ages 😂😭.It was a wonderful and entertaining watch.
Would have given it 10/10, but genuinely this drama lacked on a few parts:
1) too many fillers and unnecessary scenes from start
2) ending plot could have been better
3) 2nd lead hot scenes. I know people loving such torturous scenes, but then only production and direction should be blamed. They shot and gave such scenes completely ignoring the gravity of such scenes. They themselves relied of the hotness quotient. So can't blame users, when zhuyu team themselves romantise such SA scenes.
4) Xie zheng, the great marquis of Wuan deserved better battle fight scenes. We couldn't see the true power and rawness of Xie zheng at all.
Nevertheless, it was an entertaining watch, but definitely could have been better.
I will also be angry at the leaks, show could have achieved higher numbers if not for these leaks. Iqiyi should take full responsibility of the mess they made.
Acting wise, everyone slayed and would definitely watch their upcoming shows. Wishing the whole cast all the best.

A Story Full of Hidden Identities and Emotional Payoffs
What really surprised me was how layered the story turned out to be. At first it felt like a pretty standard historical romance setup, but the deeper it went, the more political tension and character complexity started to unfold. The pacing isn’t perfect some middle episodes drag a little but the emotional payoff later makes it worth sticking with. The main leads carried the drama really well. Their chemistry felt natural instead of overly dramatic, and I liked that their relationship developed through trust and shared struggles rather than instant romance. There are a few moments where the writing leans into typical drama tropes, but the actors sell the emotions enough that it still lands.
Visually, the drama is gorgeous. The costumes and scenery have that polished historical aesthetic that Chinese dramas do so well. Some of the palace scenes especially look stunning, and the cinematography adds a lot to the overall atmosphere. What I appreciated most was that the story didn’t make its characters purely good or bad. A lot of the side characters have understandable motivations, which makes the conflicts feel more meaningful.
If I had to criticize something, it would be that a few subplots feel rushed, like the writers wanted to wrap things up quickly. I wish certain characters had gotten a bit more resolution.
Overall, I’d say Pursuit of Jade is a really enjoyable watch if you like historical dramas with romance, intrigue, and strong character moments. It’s not flawless, but it kept me invested and emotionally engaged.

Glad they got their happy ending. I also enjoyed the alternate ending too. This drama even had feel sympathy for the villians. Snow kong and deng kai even though their characters relationship was toxic theres def chemistry i would to see them in a drama again.
