⭐ Pursuit of Jade — Review
⭐ Pursuit of Jade — Review(formerly Chasing Jade)
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10/10
I just finished Pursuit of Jade, and honestly?
This drama is peak. Absolute peak.
From the very first episode, everything about it pulls you in. The acting, cinematography, and overall production are immaculate. You can tell the director has a clear vision (same director as Blossom), and it shows in every frame. The visuals alone make you fall in love with the drama, but the storytelling and characters take it even further.
The chemistry between the leads? INSANE.
The tension? THERE.
The yearning? THROUGH THE ROOF.
You root for them from day one.
The female lead is strong, capable, and emotionally compelling. The male lead? His aura is unmatched. One of the best generals/marquises I’ve seen in a drama — powerful, commanding, but still vulnerable in the right moments. Every scene he’s in, he owns it. And together? They just work.
Their relationship dynamic is everything:
• Fake marriage
• Injured male lead
• Caretaking female lead
• Slow-burn into deep, intense love
Her literally saying she’ll kill pigs to take care of him??? I was GONE. That level of devotion, that raw love — it was so beautiful to watch.
The drama balances romance, angst, and action perfectly. There are so many heartbreaking moments — I cried a lot. The emotional weight in the middle of the story hits hard, and it makes you even more attached to every character, even the side characters and the kids.
And surprisingly? Even the second lead toxic couple had me hooked. He’s obsessed, morally questionable, and completely wrong for her… and yet you still feel something watching them. That’s how good the writing and acting are. Even the villains are too attractive, which makes everything more confusing in the best way.
Now, my only slight issues:
• The ending, while not bad, didn’t fully match the intensity of the rest of the drama. I expected more — especially in terms of battles and final payoff.
• Some of the political/war background was a bit confusing. The way names and past events were explained felt unclear at times, especially if you’re not already familiar. It could’ve benefited from clearer storytelling or flashbacks.
But even with that?
This drama still stands as a 10/10 for me.
It gave me everything I love:
romance, tension, emotional depth, beautiful visuals, and characters I’m completely attached to.
It’s honestly up there with Love in the Clouds for me — and that says a lot.
Final verdict:
A powerful, emotional, visually stunning drama with unforgettable chemistry and one of the most captivating lead dynamics I’ve seen.

Very Cinematic and beautiful first half, sadly second was rushed
Firstly the good points. The actors did such an amazing, the chemistry especially for the second couple was insane. I loved the first half so much, the pacing, the story, their little life in Lin an. Every character was serving looks. Zhang linghe was indeed very beautiful, I recently watched his drama the kunning palace and I’m glad they found the right hairstyle for him. As Yan Zheng, he had this really nice softness around Changyu, but also this fierceness he showed other people. While the actor gave a strong performance, unfortunately the last battle scene failed to capture his aura as a general and fighter (but this is the fight choreography) I know they wanted to focus on Changyu’s growth. But this really took away from his character. The 40 ep cap really affected the over flow of the story. Changyu became a General far too quickly. There should have been a montage or something of her training for years. And I feel like they cut out a lot of fighting scenes too, which I was quite sad about as an edit of Changyu fighting in the fire in Lin an was what sold me. Tian xiwei did amazingly in this role. Chemistry wise I did think the second couple won with this. But I was really touched with Changyu’s devotion to go to war for her husband. I know many people who love the romance genre really enjoyed this but for me personally, plot and the politic intrigue is very important which I felt was not a strong factor in this show, which is such a waste as there are many veterans in the show. I look forward to every one’s individual projects in the future.

Great start but fell off greatly in the last 10 episodes
Pursuit of Jade started off as one of the most anticipated dramas of the year and truly lived up to its potential at least until the last 10 episodes, yet the screenplay and the effects, along with fight scenes throughout, were quite comprehensive and done neatly. Yet it somehow lost the track towards the last leg of the drama which means that there was not a satisfactory ending but even after that the whole premise and building of the story until like the 20th episode was so perfect in so many ways and continued to be so until the last 10 episodes but even after that I had give it a 10 simply because the ML x FL remained as closely knit as always throughout protecting and loving each other and that is what defines the show. Changyu truly was the Jade which had the name "Yan Zheng".Was this review helpful to you?
Hot People, Emotional Chaos, and Zero Communication, Somehow Still a Masterpiece
Pursuit of Jade is the kind of drama that pulls you in with beauty and then keeps your heart racing like you willingly signed up for emotional chaos, and honestly I loved every second of it.Let’s start with the cast, because wow. The male lead is not just attractive, he is sexy stunning in that intense, quiet, dangerous way that makes every stare feel like a moment. He carries so much emotion without even speaking, and it works. The female lead, equally, is a whole force. Sexy, bold, audacious, an actual slay queen. She is not sitting around waiting for things to happen, she is the moment half the time. And together, they are addictive to watch. Not in a loud, explosive way, but in a way that keeps pulling you back in.
The acting overall is genuinely stellar. The emotional scenes land, the tension feels real, and even when the story goes a little off track, the performances carry you through. You believe the longing, the frustration, the love, the hurt. That is what makes it stick.
Now yes, the story can be messy. The pacing sometimes takes the scenic route, and there are moments where you think, this could have been solved with one honest conversation. Some arcs stretch longer than needed, others rush past things you wish had more time. But for me, that never ruined the experience, because the drama gives you something else in return, pure adrenaline.
Watching it feels like a constant rush. Every episode has that “something is about to go wrong” energy, and instead of being tiring, it becomes addictive. The tension, the emotional highs and lows, the chaos, it keeps you locked in. You are not watching for perfect logic, you are watching because you feel everything.
The romance is exactly that kind of ride. Messy, intense, full of misunderstandings and repeated cycles of breaking and finding their way back. And somehow, instead of being frustrating, it works. It becomes part of the thrill. You are stressed, invested, slightly yelling at your screen, but also completely hooked. The breakups hurt, the reunions hit, and the push and pull keeps your heart involved the entire time.
Visually, it is stunning. The cinematography, the styling, everything looks polished and intentional. The OST fits beautifully, always showing up at the right moment to amplify whatever emotional damage is currently happening.
Side characters are a mix. Some really add depth and give the story more layers, others feel underused, like they could have been more. But they still help build the world around the main couple.
The ending might not be perfect for everyone, but it stayed true to the tone of the drama. After everything, it felt more emotional than disappointing for me, even if it leaves you thinking about what could have been.
Overall, Pursuit of Jade is not a perfect drama, but it is an experience. It is dramatic, emotional, chaotic, and honestly addictive. I went in, felt the adrenaline, got attached to the characters, especially that insanely stunning male lead and that bold, unforgettable female lead, and just enjoyed the ride.
Flaws and all, I loved it.

This is Opium Drama
You know when i write this long drama review on my duanju diaries means this drama was like opium.I am Tian Xiwei silent watcher since New Life Begins and Wrong Marriage and feels she was overlooked actress while for Zhang Linghe i never finish most of his dramas since his acting was not my cup of tea. (1 Bailu , 2 Esther yu's, 2 Zhao Jinmai's, 1 Xu Ruohan) and this is the first time i ever finished Zhang Linghe dramas. The chemistry between them is like Coca cola and Mentos experiment. I quite like FL character growth since it was quite consistent and contrast to popular belief ML got his character growth not based on his fighting skill (he always injured but still give his best) but for emotional intelligent. One thing i found rare in Chinese Long drama is having strong emotional FL who not really depend of Love over all.
The beginning of the drama (Ep 1-18) are too strong and well written since they want to focused on Linan arc. They successfully make all of supporting characters got the spotlight (for example: Mrs Kang, Magistrate Daughter). But somehow they kind of losing the actual purpose on Episode 23-26 and the most thing i couldn't accept is Jin secret love to Changyu. It was kind of annoying can the scriptwriter make the relationship more platonic. I want to see more Xie Wu and Xie Qi relation to the Fan's Sister and it was overshadowed by Mr Jin. Man Di death was unfortunate but they kind make not realistic by not letting Changyu had proper farewell to him (They cut the plot too often so most of usual watcher will confused).
I love Deng Kai acting but scriptwriter-sama please reduce the second CP moment on the last 30 episode (yeah Snow Kong and Deng Kai got chemistry but the limited of drama duration should to give the Main lead backstory) and Su Yuanqing with the cousin scene was unnecessary too. Lin Muran acting's is make me gasped since he is quite young star.
The weakness of Zeng Qing Jie works related to political arc on this drama based from his previous work (General He drama, Wei Yan backstory, How Xie Zheng know Chang Yu real identity) but he give some color scenery that reminds me of Lord of The Rings trilogy so i kind forgive him for the lack of Political aspect on this drama.
Despite of all of my rambling about political aspect, i still recommended this drama~

I loved it. I loved it a little less. I liked it a lot.
I know this is one of the biggest hit of 2026 and there are already hundreds of reviews here so I shall not waste my time with another regulation review. This is more a collection of my thoughts after completion.1) the production value is S class. They created a whole wintery village, which is admirable. They made good use of it too. However, this is a double-edged sword. Fully half of the show was set in this village. This means so much of the early plots are small town shenanigans. This is fine early on, it helps to set the scene and introduce characters, but as the clock ticked on, we know the bigger picture stuff needs to kick in. It does test our patience a bit.
2) This drama is quite graphic. There are so much death and destructions, including the wholesale massacre of innocent people and it is on full display. Once the war is joined, we have even more bloodshed. There are also random tortures and beatings. You have been warned.
3) the narrative in the last third of the show is messy. Yes, there is the overarching revenge plot spanning 17 years. I get that. It is the telling of it which seems to flag towards the end. It is functional but felt loose. Many threads must come together at one crucial point. It could have been a grand conflagration, yet it felt ho hum.
4) as an addendum to (3), the ending is contrived. Yes, everything worked out and we got the happy ending we wanted. It just doesn't feel right in its historical context. Ask no questions, Ancient Chinese scholars.
5) the romance of our leads was very slow going for the longest time. It is swoon-y as both characters are secretly falling in love, they just can't admit it. There is a lot of "will they, won't they" moments. It didn't pick up the pace until the last few eps and then it was full on. ;)
6) there has been some chatter about our leads not being martial enough. I get that. The FL spent much of her career playing cute, feisty girl. Ditto, the ML is much more the scholar type. He even plays that role in the first half of this drama, and he totally nailed it. In their defence, the production did try to make them look good via clever editing, stunt doubles and CGI. It is a costume idol drama. Enough said. ;)
7) related to (6), some of the battle scenes are very well done. They do look epic. Interestingly, a lot of the scene are focused on the FL to establish her credential. I won't say the ML is MIA, his involvement does not always translate into combat though. More the slow-mo ride to battle in full armour type. Much of the large scale battle scenes are replaced by smaller brawls as the plot moves back towards political intrigues.
8) I enjoyed this show. When it works, it is great. It is not my favourite costume idol drama though. It wants to be different, but ends up being fairly tropey.
9) peace.

Pursuit of Jade Review I Didn’t Expect This Level of Obsession
Pursuit of Jade / POJ / Chasing Jade / Zhu Yu… where do I start? As someone who dreads 40 episode Cdrama historicals, this is one that was easy to watch and exactly the kind of storytelling we needed…
Lets just start with how this drama hooks you within the first few minutes of Episode 1… Most dramas need 1 to 2 episodes before you really get into it, not this one. I was hooked from the get go. The anticipation, the suspense, the storytelling, it was just the right mix.
From Episode 1 to 40, the story progresses at a very organic pace. Each character’s presence pushes the story forward. It either moves you emotionally or brings laughter, but every character plays a significant role in establishing the journey ML and FL go through…
Character development
We all love a strong FL especially in a historical Chinese drama, but what I loved about this FL is that she stayed true to herself. She was a pig butcher and was never embarrassed or shy about her background.
I also love that she can handle herself, beating a bunch of guys with ease and rising to the rank of general purely on her own merit. She did such a good job that I completely forgot I had seen her in First Love. Kudos to her, her acting was so good that you forget who she is and only remember the character she is playing…
Now lets talk about our ML…
Where do I even begin? Obviously he has the looks for days, but his acting, expressing complex emotions, humor, action, was just next level.
I love that he doesn’t throw his rank around or act arrogant even when he is stuck in the village. And he always humors the FL when she says “I will butcher pigs for you”
Some folks are complaining that he is too pretty to be a foundational general, to them I say get a life. This aint a documentary, its a fantasy drama.
Also is it normal to continue dreaming about the Marquis everyday…?
Costumes / Production
The costumes and production reminded me of other historical dramas like Love Like the Galaxy. Every action scene was well crafted and it was honestly impressive to watch the BTS training of the ML and FL practicing their martial arts scenes.
Director Director Director…
I cannot believe this is the same director who worked on Provoke, a very cheesy short drama that we were all swooning over in 2023. Hats off to the director.
I just love how he brought the novel to life, building the right amount of chemistry and tension to leave a lasting impression. I am in love with what he did here and I will be watching over excitedly any future projects he has…
Wishing the cast of Pursuit of Jade all the glory, awards and continued success!
PS: I dont promote watching leaked episodes but thank you to whoever shared the bed crawling scene… the entire cdrama fandom loves you 😌

Decent Idol Drama
This is an idol drama. So everyone is very pretty, and the main characters, while flawed people, are generally likeable. The premise is OK but not particularly original and it is not well executed. The tropes are hot and heavy (two different characters survive falls from cliffs). But the leads are, again, nice to look at. The story won’t challenge you, but it also never felt insulting either.

This drama is a disappointment and a deception of the viewer.
It started off brilliantly and I was sure that after many years of drought, something good had finally appeared. The humor, great production, blocking, costumes—the plot a bit banal and cliché-ridden, but done nicely.Unfortunately, around episode 8 everything started to fall apart. The light drama began turning into boredom, and eventually into some kind of political tragedy, and the so-called character development of the heroine turned her into yet another generic strong female lead—and, as usual, undeservedly so. The way she killed the person she killed was so absurd that it fits 100% into the fantasies of naive teenagers and 0% into logic and narrative consistency.
Never mind that. Each episode became more and more boring, irritating, slow, and based solely on talking and suffering. So what happened was a crime against the viewer—the viewer was deceived with the promise of a light comedic romance and got a tragedy instead. And to anyone who says, “you should have read the description,” I say, “get stuffed.” Descriptions lie—I judge based on what I see, not what someone wrote, and those are always misleading, because they cram everything in.
Was this drama entertaining? The first few episodes—yes. Was it, in the end, a waste of time? For someone who doesn’t like boring politics, stupid heroines and heroes, and boredom—yes. My not tragically low rating comes from the really great production quality and those first few episodes that actually made sense.

This Drama Has Me in a CHOKEHOLD — A Story That Stayed With Me
I fell in love with this drama from episode 1... and honestly, I didn’t expect that at all. This isn’t even my usual genre, but Pursuit of Jade completely pulled me in.Everything about it just works. The acting is superb... every actor delivered and truly brought their characters to life. You can feel the emotions, the struggles, and the growth in each performance. The characters themselves are so well-written, and their development throughout the story is incredibly satisfying to watch.
The plot is engaging and keeps you hooked, with a story that never feels dull. Every episode adds something meaningful, and I found myself wanting more every time.
The production quality is also top-tier. The CGI is impressive, and the action scenes are executed so well... they feel intense and immersive without looking overdone. And the main leads? Their visuals are absolutely stunning. I couldn’t take my eyes off them... they add so much charm and presence to every scene.
I haven’t felt this way about a drama in the same genre since Prisoner of Beauty, and that says a lot. Pursuit of Jade really surprised me in the best way possible.
If you’re hesitant because it’s not your usual genre... just give it a try. You might end up loving it as much as I did.

Good story + horrible directing = mediocre series
I honestly don't understand what most reviewers are praising the series for. I haven't read the book, but from what I see the story is good and since it's the only thing that is good, the book must have been great.Acting is subpar at best. Overwhelming majority of actors in this drama don't know how actual people behave, cry or laugh, expressions are wooden. Even looking at a wall would have been a more emotional experience. Don't get me wrong, some actors in this drama do know how to act, but they are clearly in the minority. This was my first c-drama and if I hadn't watched Joy of Life series right after, I would have concluded Chinese dramas are just not worth the time.
The decorations and CG look as fake as my old neighbor eyelashes, they could have just skipped them altogether, but this at least can be explained by low budget. Although some parts of it looked cringey, then don't really detract from the show.
Direction. AWFUL. He allowed lousy acting pass. Didn't manage pacing well. Introduced characters that have zero influence on the story and serve no purpose whatsoever. Director should probably look for another job.
