A Drama You’ll Wish You Could Watch Again for the First Time

This drama is one of those rare gems that makes you wish you could erase your memory just to watch it again for the very first time.

The cast was perfection — every glance, every line delivered with such emotion that it felt like they were living those moments, not acting them. The OST wrapped itself around the story like a heartbeat, amplifying every tender scene and every heartbreak until you were completely immersed.

The plot had everything: palace intrigue, betrayal, redemption, and a romance so beautifully written it felt timeless. The romance wasn’t just love; it was destiny unfolding in front of us, the kind of connection that makes your heart ache and soar at the same time.

By the end, I was left with that bittersweet feeling — grateful for the journey, but longing to relive it all over again. The Pursuit of Jade isn’t just a drama, it’s an experience, and one that will stay with me for a long time.

"In this life, the next life, for all lifetimes, the two of us will always be entwined."

Honestly, I wasn’t even planning to watch this drama when I started it—I had another one lined up—but the hype was everywhere, and I just couldn’t resist. And yeah… the hype is 100% deserved. I already had a feeling I was going to like it, but it completely exceeded my expectations. The acting, the stunning cinematography, the OST, the chemistry between the characters—everything was so well done. I barely have any complaints, to be honest.

I absolutely love seeing my man Zhang Ling He finally getting the recognition he deserves. I’ve been following him for years, back when he wasn’t as popular, so seeing him blow up now makes me so happy. (ノ^^)ノ He never disappoints with his acting—he’s improved so much and really proved he’s way more than just a pretty face.

Also, I just added a new actress to my favorites list because Tian Xi Wei completely surprised me. I don’t remember seeing her in anything before (or maybe I did and just forgot), but she totally won me over in this drama. I’m definitely planning to check out more of her work.

Zhang Linghe and Tian Xi Wei together were just so cute together—I mean, their chemistry was incredible and so fun to watch. They balanced each other perfectly, making their relationship feel natural, engaging, and like a true, powerful couple. And if there’s one thing I absolutely love, it’s a man who yearns and is completely gone for the woman he loves—and our marquis was exactly that. >//< I loved the way he looked at her, how he took care of her, and how much he longed to be close to her. He definitely raised my standards even more. (/ω\)

The villains were so good too—I loved them because I hated them, which just proves how amazing their acting was. I really hope to see them, and the rest of the cast, in more projects.

Overall, this drama delivered everything it promised and more. Now I’m dying to read the novel because we all know adaptations always change or leave things out, so my expectations for the original story are even higher. This drama is honestly a gem. 10/10. ✨

Amazing chemistry and characters! Very satisfied w/ tempered expectations about the political plot.

Oh. My. God. I absolutely loved this story, but more specifically, I loved the characters. It's very much a character driven story to me, and the actors all do a great job of making you feel for them, whether they're a main lead, villain, or side character. Usually, C-dramas don't spend much time on the "village life" arc of the main leads. However, the time spent on the bond between the main leads and side characters is what made the rest of the story compelling, even when the climax was not as big as what the rest of the story built it up to be. It serves as the foundation for the FL's down-to-earth personality, the ML's humanization, and it makes you utterly invested in the world they and their friends live in. There were multiple scenes that I watched multiple times because the camera angles, the dialogue, and the actors pulled them off so well. So many surprise reveals pulled of *so* well. I can already tell I will be rewatching this drama for years to come. Only regret is that I won't get to experience it for the first time again.

I loved that the strong female lead archetype is refreshed with the element of being a butcher, and I love that ML largely lets her fix her own problems rather than using his strong, influential male lead magic to make things easier for her. She earns everything truly by her own merit. I love the comedy that comes from their differing social positions, and their chemistry is off the charts! Zhang Linghe does an amazing job balancing ML's two sides, one that is utterly devoted and a simp for his wife and the unrelenting, ruthless Marquise. It never feels forced or like whiplash. I saw Tian Xiwei in "New Life Begins," and I knew she would absolutely nail the part of FL. Every trope is served in a way that makes sense for the story and doesn't feel like it's stuffed into the story just because (except for the excessive FL tend to ML's wounds to create forced tension, especially at the beginning). I also must say I am a sucker for whenever the ML falls first and *hard* for FL.

This drama, as other people have pointed out, does suffer some discrepancies due to the 40 episode limit. There are scenes where you just know there was meant to be more. However, this drama never feels awfully disjointed. My expectations for the court life and political scheming was already tempered; I had heard from many people who had read the web novel that not nearly enough time was spent unraveling the very complex events of 17-years-ago. I have never read the web novel, but after watching the drama, I view it as a story much more devoted to our female lead's development and the main couple's devotion to each other. There's a large dose of political intrigue, and I feel given the restrictions, the ending was still relatively well-paced to me. I am very willing to make that exchange for the time we spent on their time in the village and on other battle fields. I think you'll be very satisfied going in knowing that the political plot is not as elaborate as the novel, but the story still does an amazing job of making us fall in love with its characters.

One of the Best Strong FL Stories I’ve Watched

Well, it’s just my type of story. Aside from the actors, I really like stories where the female lead comes from a poor background but is mentally strong and never lets people walk all over her. She’s kind too, to the point that she helps a stranger who later turns out to be the male lead.

The male lead hides who he really is at first, but he’s actually powerful, wealthy, and comes from a noble family. He’s also a respected leader. They start off in a marriage of convenience, but slowly fall for each other along the way.

I also like the male lead’s personality. At first, he’s very quiet and keeps everything to himself. But after he starts caring about the female lead, you can really see how protective he becomes. There was one scene where the female lead got targeted and ended up collapsing because the enemy played dirty during the fight. Seeing her hurt completely changed his expression, and even the people around him were shocked by how cold and furious he suddenly became.

What I also loved about this story was that there was a post-credit scene at the end of the final episode. Most ancient fantasy C-dramas just end on some vague happy note—like the characters have to part ways to protect the world or something, and then they meet again, and that’s it. But The Pursuit of Jade isn’t like that. We actually get to see what happens after the happy ending, not just a quick “we met, now everything’s fine” scene.

Want romance and likable characters? This is it!

Hollywood, listen up! You want a strong, female girl boss, who can still be sweet and likable, along with an equally strong hero? watch and learn how it's done! Both lead actors excelled in their roles. Both were tough and tender, and the supporting cast was one of THE BEST I've seen so far in Chinese cinema! Each episode drew you in and each character shone. Even the bad guys were well drawn and layered. (I wish I could read the original book!) And there's a ton of romance, from a middle-aged couple, a secondary lead romance, several twisted romances involving the bad guys, even a hint of a future romance in two little kids. The main heroine is strong, but retains her femininity and sweet nature. The hero is loyal and stoic on the outside, tender and protective on the inside. The only downside of this show was the confusing ending. But that aside, this is a series I want to own on DVD. I've already watched it twice so far. If you saw Prisoner of Beauty, this is just as great.

A story like many others, but...

An exceptional story, and despite a few blunders, it holds together.

There were moments when I thought the entire neighborhood heard my laughter ;)
It's rare for me to experience a drama that I can binge in one sitting.

The leads played their roles brilliantly.

The supporting actors also showed their acting chops.

This year's Top One, so far.

A drama worth watching again, of course.

the drama that defined your current taste.

I went into Pursuit of Jade expecting a historical romance, but I left with a story that was much more than that.

What surprised me the most was that this drama was not built around a simple love story. It was about two intelligent people with their own scars, responsibilities, and struggles, slowly learning to trust each other and choosing to stand together despite everything trying to tear them apart.

The biggest strength of this drama is its characters. The female lead is not someone who simply waits for someone to save her. She is intelligent, resilient, and capable of making difficult decisions. She knows how to survive, protect what matters to her, and fight for her own future.

The male lead is also more than just a powerful figure. Behind his strength is someone carrying his own burdens, expectations, and wounds. What I loved about their relationship is that they were never portrayed as two incomplete people searching for someone to complete them. They were already strong individually, and together they became even stronger.

Their romance felt like a true partnership — built on understanding, respect, trust, and slowly earned affection. It was not about grand declarations from the beginning, but about two people who gradually became each other's safest place.

Beyond the romance, I appreciated the political conflicts, family struggles, and themes of survival, loyalty, and the consequences of past choices. The story showed that sometimes love is not about escaping the battles of life, but about finding someone willing to face those battles with you.

The chemistry between the leads, the character growth, and the emotional payoff made this one of the most memorable historical dramas I have watched.

Pursuit of Jade reminded me that the best romances are not always about someone saving the other person — they are about finding someone who will stand beside you when the entire world is against you.

Definitely one of my top dramas. ❤️

Completely Obsessed. It's Truly a Jade

This drama is amazingly crafted! From the actors to the environment and story buildup, everything was an absolute satisfaction to watch. With the first episode to the last, it will keep you engaged and entertained. The story follows Fan Changyu (Tian Xiwei), a kind and strong willed pig butcher who rescue Xie Zheng (Zhang Linghe), a fallen noble on a revenge quest, as they entered into a fake marriage to save each other, they find true love, friendship and trust in each other.
This drama is amazing not because of the beautiful and handsome actors and actresses. I mean, they are the extra sweetness of this drama, but the main core is how the story was given to us. The words and phrases plus each scene delivery that is chosen for each character builds the story piece by piece, slowly giving you that savory taste of wanting to just click next for each episode.
Each and every character is nicely fleshed out. Xie Zheng is a typical male lead I can find in every drama; cold on the outside, sweet and warm inside, great at fighting, smart and rich. Fan Changyu, on the other hand is a rare gem character. She’s innocent yet deadly. Her wisdom is not determined by her education. Her love is mature. I usually don't care about villians but this drama made them very watchable.
This drama is so complete that there's really nothing to "complain" about. Would I rewatch it? In a heart beat without a doubt.

The World Fears Him, But Not Her

🌿 From a Small Village to a Vast World

One of the things I loved most about Pursuit of Jade was how naturally the story expanded. It begins in a small village, with seemingly ordinary people living ordinary lives. The drama takes its time introducing the villagers, their relationships, and their daily struggles, allowing us to become genuinely attached to them.

What starts as a local story gradually grows into something much larger. The world expands alongside the heroine’s journey, moving from a small community to political intrigue, larger conflicts, and wider responsibilities. The transition never feels forced. Instead, it feels like we are discovering the world together with the characters.

💔 A Massacre That Actually Hurts

The village massacre was one of the most difficult moments to watch.

Not because it was shocking for the sake of being shocking, but because the drama had already invested so much time in making us care about the people who lived there. By the time tragedy strikes, these are no longer background characters. They are friends, neighbours, mentors, and family.

As painful as it was, the event felt necessary for the story. Had everything remained peaceful, the heroine would never have left her village and embarked on the journey that ultimately shapes her destiny.

It is a rare example of tragedy being both emotionally devastating and narratively meaningful.

❤️ A Romance Built on Trust

The world fears him, but not her.

That single idea perfectly captures why I adored the main couple.

The male lead is a man whose reputation precedes him. People fear him, misunderstand him, and often judge him before getting to know him. Yet the heroine never sees him as the monster others imagine him to be. She sees the man beneath the legend.

Their relationship develops beautifully throughout the drama. The heroine begins as an independent and capable woman who relies primarily on herself. As the story progresses, she gradually learns to trust the male lead and lean on him when needed, without ever losing her own strength.

Even better, the male lead actually communicates.

Instead of endless misunderstandings or unnecessary emotional walls, he openly expresses his feelings and makes it clear how much he loves her. That alone felt incredibly refreshing.

The chemistry between them is excellent and their emotional connection remains one of the strongest aspects of the drama.

🎭 A Masterclass in Nonverbal Acting

The male lead delivers one of my favourite performances in recent C-dramas.

His nonverbal acting is absolutely phenomenal. So much emotion is conveyed through subtle expressions, body language, and fleeting glances. There are moments where a single look says more than an entire page of dialogue ever could.

Whether he is worried, heartbroken, protective, jealous, or deeply in love, you can read it immediately on his face.

His performance adds tremendous depth to both the character and the romance.

🌟 Strong Characters Across the Board

The heroine is fantastic.

She is strong, intelligent, and independent, but also allowed to grow emotionally throughout the story. Her development feels natural and believable.

The supporting cast is equally memorable. I became particularly attached to the village ruffians and thoroughly enjoyed following their individual journeys. They bring humour, heart, and a sense of found family to the story.

On the opposite side, the villains are wonderfully infuriating. Their performances are so convincing that they genuinely make you want to reach through the screen and strangle them yourself. That is always a sign of effective antagonists.

🎨 Gorgeous Visual Storytelling

Visually, Pursuit of Jade is stunning.

The costumes are beautiful, the sets are richly detailed, and the lighting consistently enhances the atmosphere of each scene. Whether portraying peaceful village life, intimate character moments, or larger dramatic confrontations, the cinematography helps immerse the viewer in the world.

Many scenes feel carefully composed, creating a drama that is as pleasing to look at as it is to watch.

💭 Final Thoughts

Pursuit of Jade delivers a compelling journey filled with loss, growth, romance, and adventure. It starts small, gradually broadens its horizons, and never loses sight of the characters who make the story matter.

The emotional impact of the village tragedy, the wonderful character development, the excellent chemistry between the leads, and the male lead’s exceptional acting all combined to make this a deeply memorable watch.

Most of all, I will remember the relationship at the heart of the story.

Everyone else fears him. She simply sees him.

Totally worth the time

I was skeptical about this one since there wasn’t a good series recently…… total 10 stars and worth the 3 days…. Loved the last episode post credit scenes… loved the story and the actors…. All the characters were played by wonderful actors….. will keep coming back for favourite scenes…. Worth another watch probably…. Won’t get to it until can remember… when I start forgetting dialogue willl certainly rewatch.
Thought it would be something like LLTG, surprisingly refreshing after a good series slump.

It’s my first review…… it has been that good… I felt jaded before watching and refreshed after….. hope people keep coming up with new stuff

The reason I believe Pursuit of Jade succeeded.

People have talked endlessly about the handsomeness fo cast, the dreaminess of the cinematography, however, the angle I would like to point out, comes from my own occassional frustration with Cdramas. That is them being so long and often overstretched, and in order to keep them that way the plot involving the second FL and second ML are chewed out like flavourless chewing gum. This is exactly where in my opinion POJ succeeds.
The chemistry between the main ML and main FL is amazing we are all invested in their story, but it was the entirely different but equally enjoyable chemistry between Qi Min and Qianqian that truly holds the drama togather in the later half of the drama. This in my opinion is a rare phenomenon.

Drama that can watch more times and still find perfect

A beautifully crafted drama that manages to balance emotion, storytelling, and character development in a way that keeps you invested from beginning to end.
One of the biggest strengths of the drama is its cast. The leads deliver convincing and emotionally layered performances, making their characters feel real and relatable. The chemistry between them is natural and engaging, which adds depth to every interaction.
Supporting characters are not just fillers—they each bring something meaningful to the story, contributing to a rich and immersive world.
