A Stunning Spectacle That Became Less Stunning and More Spectacle
Let me start off by saying I enjoyed the show. I thought the leads had good chemistry. I liked the female protagonist. I feel like they didn't give the ML much to do, which has become an unfortunate trend these days, but he did well with what he was given. The cinematography was stunning. The music was great. All of the actors were excellent. I enjoyed some of the side characters, and others didn't work for me.The first half of the show, I really enjoyed. I thought it was building up nicely. The back half of the show fell apart for me. I thought the military training arc in the middle went on for a bit too long. I was not charmed or engaged by the villain brothers, and their arc completely swallowed the show in the end, in my opinion. The actors were great, but the compulsion of the internet to turn this grotesque man into some doomed, tragic romantic anti-hero just didn't work for me. The plot kind of collapsed under the weight of all of the nonsense political shenanigans. The main leads somehow got lost in the shuffle of their own story.
I still think this show was well made, well-acted and it started with promise. It just didn't quite stick the landing for me.

Everything about this is wonderful
From the moment I started watching I was captivated. From the acting to the plot line, from heartbreaking sadness through to betrayal and manipulation. Utter joy to deep love, from tears of sadness to chuckles of laughter, from the production values to the OST. All capped off with an emotional and poignant ending and then a ‘what if’ version of 16 years earlier that was so poignant but still managed to make me smile.Bravo.
The story follows Fan Chengyu, an orphaned girl who follows in her father’s footsteps and becomes a pig butcher to make ends meet and support her much younger sister. One day she finds a man, Yan Zheng, who’s dying in the snow and the story follows them on their journey of discovery and as they turn the world upside down.
Stand out performances: Zhang Linghe as Yan Zheng and Tian Xi Wei who played Fan Chengyu were dynamite together, every scene together a masterclass in chemistry.
Deng Kai as Qi Min a sociopathic monster whose ending broke my heart.
Snow Kong who plays the ethereal Yu Qianqian with a mysterious past that only Qi Min picks up on.
The fierce Princess Royal and her lover Gongsun Jin.
The adorable Mr & Mrs Zhao.
The cute and believable kids.
Grannie Kang.
The puppet emperor.
The Northwest Pig Butcher Squad…
the list goes on
I’m not going to say any more as you need to watch this yourself
Would I watch it again? Absolutely - the last chapter is so incredible that I may have already watched it a couple of times just to make sure I haven’t missed anything and every time my heart aches for the most misunderstood and abused character of all.

My First C-Drama and OMG
I was dragged into the world of C-drama against my will because I typically hate reading subtitles. That being said after the first five minutes I was hooked. I love the Chemistry between Zhang Linghe and Tian. She did not at all get enough flowers for her performance in this because his character is so grandiose. She totally held her own. She is amazing and adorable, however. MY FAVORITE CHARACTER WAS CHANGNING!! SHE IS A DOLL BABY!!This story surrounds the Marquis of Wu'an a general found hanging on to life by a thread by our heroine Female lead - Fan Changyu. It tells the story of their love, the battlefield, family and resilience.
Our FL (female leaad) is not only ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. she extremely strong, but she has a kind heart and good taste in men. Although throughout the story there are about what seems like a jillion men who seem to fall for her. Totally understandable though. Through her ventures she meets a best friend, a group of rowdy tag a longs that become family, the HOTTEST husband in C-Drama history (at this point because again it was the first one that I've ever watched. )
The trials and tribulations that they go through begin in Xigu Lane, follow them to Li'nan and then onto the battle field. Through cunning, wit, they survive the toughtest moments.
You should really look up the uncut scene in episode 38. I wasn't a huge fan of how it ended. I wish there was more.
There was a lot of court scenes that I didn't care for, but they are crucial to the background of the story. Also, can we talk about the level of fine men they stocked within this show? I mean DANG!!! Even Chancellor Wei! Amen!!!
All of this to say I am now watching this whole series for a 3rd time, however this time my husband and son are both totally into it and watch a few episodes a night with me. I know a log of women watch this for the absolutely beautiful men in this show; but the storyline is enough to engage everyone. Also the war scenes are phenomenal. It's not overdone. It is simply cinematic genius.

Pursuit of Jade
Was it a good drama? Yes. Was it intriguing? Yes but was it perfect? No. The cast, the storyline, the effects, the acting everything was good but the arrangement of story made the story lack its soul. And in many places it felt like the drama has been cut out. Like sudden change of Li hui'an, and many more scenes felt like half. Also the war scenes were very basic, because I have seen much better war scenes. Here the war scenes felt like childs play. In many instances I felt like I have skipped a episode or something because continuity was missing in many places and also fire in Qi min's background story also felt confusing. Also the people fantasizing over Qi min are actually psychopaths, guys he killed hundreds and thousands of people, also him treating qianqian is nothing to be fantasized. I really don't understand those peoples, Most of them are those Wattpad readers who romanticise the forced love. But overall it's a very good drama, which will keep us all awake.

Perfect score for chinese historical drama
Good visuals, amazing background music, and a genuinely compelling story!I absolutely love how strong both the FL and ML are and how perfectly they complete each other. Damn, ZLH just portrays such a true gentleman—I definitely fell for him the moment I watched this drama, and I keep looking up all of his other shows ever since!

Unforgettable from Start to Finish
Watching Pursuit of Jade as my first historical C-drama was something I never expected to affect me this much. I started it out of curiosity, but I ended it with a full heart. What I love most is how detailed every scene feels. Nothing is wasted. Every look, every silence, every line carries meaning. It doesn't just show what the characters feel...you actually feel it with them. Their struggles, their emotions, their relationships… everything feels so real and immersive.
And Changyu… I love her so much. Her bravery is on another level. The way she stands strong no matter what happens makes her feel powerful and unforgettable. Truly iconic.
Even with all the emotions, the drama never feels too heavy. It knows when to slow down and let you breathe, which makes it such an enjoyable watch. The chemistry between Zhang Linghe and Tian Xiwei is incredible! So natural and effortless that it pulls you deeper into their story. The soundtrack also fits beautifully and enhances every moment.
This drama is more than just enjoyable for me, it's unforgettable. I know it will be hard to move on from Pursuit of Jade, but it also makes me excited to explore more historical C-dramas.

BEST C-DRAMA EVER❕❕?
I am a K-drama warrior since 5th grade. But when I saw multiple edits of “Pursuit of Jade” on TikTok, I decided to give it a try and watch a C-drama for the first time. I was already hooked in the first episode, and before I knew it — I had already finished all 40 episodes. The visuals were top notch! The acting was superb! And their chemistry was overflowing! Mr. Zhang Ling He and Miss Tian Xi Wei’s chemistry felt so natural that you would even feel like a third wheel with their scenes; as if you were there in front of them and felt embarrassed and shy to witness their genuine love for each other. They are the reason I am now a C-drama supporter and fan. I wish they’d be paired up someday for future projects! They’re so perfect for each other, to be honest. A straight 1,000,000/10❕❕🤍Was this review helpful to you?

Who's that girl
Ok, first of all, can we just appreciate how even though Fan Chang Yu is a total bada$$, she's also totally a girl. She's always beautiful in whatever she has on, but I'm talking more emotionally. Once she finally discovers who Xie Zheng really is, she's all "I'm not good enough for him" and then when he finds a solution to try to make her feel better about the situation, she's all "well, if he doesn't love me for who I am". I actually laughed out loud at that scene because she reminded us of what it is to be a woman and the ridiculousness we put men through. I both loved and hated the slow burn. The just missing each other everywhere they went for 10 episodes was driving me crazy. I also have a big heart for Qi Min. I know the man is pure evil, but I think he was forced to be that way and I think if you watch to the VERY end, you will agree. My heart broke for him knowing he really did love Yu Qian Qian and she was in fact the only person he had ever been able to love. This series had me laughing and crying through all 40 episodes. Was this review helpful to you?

Tears flow as i write this...
WHAT A DRAMA! I mean, WHAAAT A DRAAAMAAA!!!It's been so long since I've felt so overwhelmed & happy & satisfied after watching a drama series. But it was so very totally totally TOTALLY worth it! T.T
As for context, I've never been a fan of Chinese historical dramas, so I was quite unsure about whether or not I should give it a go. Of course, good reviews led me there & now I just don't wanna let it go! It's the type of drama that lingers in your heart & your mind for a long, long time because of the astonishing charm it leaves on you. Everything else feels sour because you just finished watching one of the greatest dramas out there! T.T
To leave a review for this, I don't actually know how to express my feelings about it verbally, but I can at least try! For the story, the fact that plot makers portrayed a woman as a brave hero of that ancient time- truly so freaking amazing! The chemistry among the characters- *chef's kiss*! About the cast- OMGEEEEEEEEE, I WANNA EAT THE MALE LEAD SO BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can a person be SO FUCKING HOT & HANDSOME & BEAUTIFULLY IN CHARACTER at the same time?! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 The female lead is so cute as well, even the second and third lead couples- *chef's kiss*! It can be said without a doubt that this drama has one of the few BESTEST c-drama casts so far. For the music, so soothing, so heart-touching!!! *immediately changes ringtone to "I tread carefully with fate" T.T*
At this moment, idk how long it will take me to get over the lingering feeling this drama left on me, but I wanna keep going back again & again & again T.T T.T T.T !!! THANKS to everyone who made this drama possible. Forever grateful to you guys for this! T.T 💘
