Never, ever watch this drama, ever
This is maybe the WORST daily drama I have ever watched. I have never written a review before, but I just had to for this drama, For me, daily dramas are cathartic. You know that the good people will get a happy ending and the bad people will get punished. Yes, some daily dramas go off script and the ending can be less than satisfying, but this is the first drama I found enraging. The worst character of the entire series, the one that caused the most heartache and literally had someone murdered, doesn’t go to jail or receive any punishment. She is forgiven, for murder!!! And, the most selfless person in the entire show gets terminal cancer. The romantic plot line was all over the place. First the female lead looks like she is interested in a childhood friend, even though he is a selfish cold prick, IMO. Then, she gets over the friend and is interested in her guardian, the man that raised her since she was six. Okay, that was gross and weird, but I tried to look past it. But then, she doesn’t even end up with him because again, he dies at the end of the drama of cancer. So, the female lead marries the childhood best friend, who she doesn’t even love, to make her pseudo father happy. What???? The whole series was terrible from start to finish and I only finished it because I wanted to see how this train wreck would end. Ultimately, this was the least satisfying daily drama I have ever watched and I would never recommend anyone else watch it.Was this review helpful to you?

I hated this drama so much I had to leave a review to warn innocent people who start to watch this drama in hopes it will be good. It started off great until Young Shin fell for Kyung Soo there is no justification or explanation it is sick even if they are not related he raised her since she was like 8 and all of a sudden she's like 24 and he is in love with her. Also what was the point of the whole Jung Hoon complication why did they spend like a quarter of the show building the relationship and showing us their struggles if she was going to ultimately end up with someone else. I would like to just advice other people going to watch this show don't get attached you would be greatly disappointed . This has to be one of my least favourite daily dramas and I have watched a lot of insane ones. Was this review helpful to you?

Never have I ever.....
Ok let's just say this is one of the most insane shows I have ever watched seriously. The first half of the show was decent you got to see a man raising a young child who isn't even his from 9 yrs old to adulthood. The first half with all the characters being children except for Gyung Soo who started off as a young man who left the city to come to the country and open up a diner where he feeds an assorted group of ppl dinner. Now these people that he is feeding is like a giant family each character has their own story and it was a fun group. Young Shin who is the little girl who Gyung Soo raises is smart and cute, but has an issue with being abandoned granted so since her mother was killed then being raised by her grandmother after that grandma dies and is giving to Gyung Soo father to raise when she is left on the diners doorstep sort to speak. Gyung soo being young of course he doesn't want to raise a child who doesn't belong to him but the lil girl touches his heart and well he raised her to be an adult. This is where things start to go left. Yong shin falls inlove with Gyung Soo, yes he raised her and In my head it is screaming wth, but then I don't to much think of it as love between man and woman more so Co dependency, she doesn't want to loose the only person next to her and they call it love but let call it what it is , she is dependent on him in her head she sees this as love. The craziest thing about this show is there are so man plot twist it is unbelievable, starting with Gyung Soo's mother . Mrs. Choi or dragon lady Choi as i like to call her. This is the most evil woman i have ever seen before and at her age you would think she should be exhausted coming up with these evil plans in my heart I really just wanna scream and say Lady please sit down and take your Geritol and go to sleep cause you doing way to much. Her and her nephew is the killer for me I wanna ask hey so no one finds it strange these two are constantly disappearing and talking quietly. Then it occurred to me does no one believe in hidden cameras or recording devices hell yall got cell phones and no one is recording this. Worst yet is why doesn't anyone ask questions. Like for instance Chairman Kang and Young shin they talk all the time he talks about how she looks like his first love she talks about her mom and neither one of you asked a name or showed a photo maybe it is me but i would want to know or i am just nosey, and the killer part of it all Young Shin left photos all over the house and he did not once see one, really??? But i digress. SO let me just say if you are looking for a show that is calming this is not it, if you are looking for happy happy joy joy, walk on past this one. But if you want to watch a show and feel every emotion possible anger being the number one emotion , stop right here and watch this one, cause i have been angry thru out this show. Will I keep watching? Heck yeah cause I just want to see Dragon lady hit the ground hard when everything comes to light. Do I think things like this happen in real life, Good Lord I hope not if so then there is no hope for humanity because that wouid mean there are some seriously slow ppl and ignorant people out there in the world. Was this review helpful to you?
Dreadful after the first few episodes
This, like a number of other K-dramas, starts with the protagonists as children, and then they make the leap to young adults in one episode. The children are great and it's a really promising start. I got totally sucked into it. Sadly, it's a long slide down from there. The characters develop illogically, with strong children becoming dishonest and whiny adults. The female lead is unbelievably boring and flat, with no personality at all. the male she was paired with as a child becomes a whiner. The plot becomes garbled and simply stupid. I"m at ep. 118 and I can't wait for the male lead to die, already. He's a terrible actor. The one bright star in this mess is Han Jung-Ho, who plays a disabled adult. It's the first portrayal of someone with a disability - probably intended as cerebral palsy - is never cringe-worthy and consistent throughout. He deserves a reward. The writer and the rest of the cast isn't worth mention. Why did I watch so much of this? I normally watch a daily dram to go to sleep to - and this wasn't even good enough for that. Now I just want it to end. Yuk.Was this review helpful to you?
An Oedipus Complex Love ruins a heartwarming story.
In the beginning I really enjoy watching “A Good Supper” daily, it is very engaging. It really seems like watching a life story where they have crushes on their playmates while they are young, and crushes on their high school mates while they are growing up. Eventually painful break ups and an intense suffering of loving someone. The children and young adults (high school and college years) actors/actresses are great in showing all emotions. I also appreciate all the authentic Korean cuisines and dishes served on the program. The youngsters and their families eat supper every night at the diner. It is so touching to watch them eating supper together as a warm loving diner family. It is so heartwarming.
The story starts in a tiny diner that belongs to “Ajeossi” Gyung Soo (portrayed by Actor Jae Hee) when he decides to take in an 8-year-old youngster Kim Young Shin and raise the youngster. In this tiny town, the young orphan Kim Young Shin meets three other youngsters, Lee Da Jung, Jang Ok Bok, and Park Jung Hoon. These foursomes tell the story as they become playmates; the audience get to know their backgrounds, wishes, wants, characters and demeanors while they grow up from elementary school all the way to adulthood.
The story becomes compelling when a love triangle happens in high school, Lee Da Jung begins to fall in love with Park Jung Hoon after she learns that Park Jung Hoon (portrayed by Actor Kwon Hyuk) is going to medical school. However, Jung Hoon likes Kim Young Shin deeply; Young Shin is a very compassionate person and shows so much empathy to Jung Hoon.
After some time, Park Jung Hoon wants Young Shin (portrayed by Actress Jung Woo Yeo / Ryu Hyo Young) to come with him, but Young Shin is undecisive. Of course, Young Shin misses the train that takes Jung Hoon to another city to study medicine. She is crying forlornly at the train station missing Jung Hoon dearly.
The Actress Kang Da Hyun that portrays Da Jung performs so well in the subsequent episodes; she convincingly tells a story of Da Jung character that loving someone is a painful experience. It hurts her so much to see Jung Hoon cares about Young Shin. Da Jung becomes so obsessed to ruin and destroy Young Shin.
Eventually, Young Shin works as an intern in an authentic high end Korean Restaurant “Royal Palace”. The restaurant belongs to Chairman Kang Jong Gwon, he is very fond of Young Shin and wants to adopt her. Chairman Jong Gwon’s infectious smile brightens the small screen, his smiling facial expression is so contagious. His wife, Choi Sook Jung, and the rest of his family work at “Royal Palace”. The audience will notice that Sook Jung is the main evil character in the story, however, she is connected to Gyung Soo. Sook Jung (portrayed convincingly by classy Actress Kim Hye Ok) uses Da Jung as her tool to spread a rumor about Young Shin and “Ajeossi” Gyung Soo living together. The rumor becomes reality and triggers “Oedipus complex” love between “Ajeossi” Gyung Soo and Young Shin. Out of nowhere, suddenly “Ajeossi” Gyung Soo and Young Shin have romantic feeling for each other. It is really a sudden dramatic turn of events that I do not expect to happen.
A notable winner is Actor Han Jung Ho in "A Good Supper", he is worth mentioning. It is certainly not an easy task to act as a simple man Jang Yong Goo. Yong Goo’s unconditional love to the love of his life, Pil Sun, touches our heart. After Yong Goo is rebuffed by Pil Sun’s brother, we painfully notice him walking in the blooming cherry blossom park while repeating “I am 43, my name is Jang Yong Goo, I am a sane person”; that beautiful scenery has become very poignant as well as heartbreaking. That segment in episode 75 steals the show. I earnestly hope actor Han Jung Ho that portrays Yong Goo get a nomination for the Supporting Actor in a Soap Opera in 2021 MBC Drama Awards for "A Good Supper" and wins the Award.
Jung Hoon character is one of the lead characters, but he seems to appear as a supporting character and only has a brief period on the screen in each episode. After Young Shin has feeling for “Ajeossi” Gyung Soo, a compassionate/kind Young Shin becomes so cold toward Jung Hoon and ignores Jung Hoon completely. Usually, a character in a daily drama maintains a consistent demeanor regardless of the situations. Truthfully, it is a very uncharacteristic protagonist lead character of a daily drama.
It is so unfortunate that "A Good Supper" does not show the hardship of Jung Hoon medical school and internship training as well as his intense pain in loving Young Shin. I am sure it would give some flavor to the “monotonous moving in circle-go-round-and-round” story. I feel so much empathy for Jung Hoon. Jung Hoon is honest to say what he thinks about Da Jung and her bad intentions (even though all diner family want him to come back and date Da Jung) and dares to say in Gyung Soo’s face that the relationship between Young Shin and Gyung Soo makes Jung Hoon uncomfortable. I give ten-out-of-ten points for Jung Hoon’s honesty and his decisiveness, Jung Hoon is maintaining a consistent candor and decisive demeanor regardless of the situations he is facing. Jung Hoon shows his real love for the person he really cares about (Young Shin) and her best interest. It is so disappointing that the protagonist male lead Park Jung Hoon is cornered by Gyung Soo, Ok Bok and Da Jung regarding Jung Hoon’s love for Young Shin; Jung Hoon is said to be having unstable mental/irritable state.
I would give “A Good Supper” story an inflated “three out of ten” for the story, it is engaging in the beginning with heartwarming meals served daily, but the story becomes dull. I am not inclined to give any scores for re-watch value. Firstly, it is so troubling to re-watch a twenty-three-year-old Gyung Soo raises an eight-year-old youngster Young Shin, and later when “Ajeossi” Gyung Soo is 40-year-old and Young Shin is 25-year-old, they have romantic feeling for each other. In my opinion, there are social norms in society that provide us with an expected idea of how to behave in a particular social culture. It is not a sin, but it is a deviation from social norms and violates unwritten rules about what is acceptable in a particular society. Secondly, there is no “on-screen chemistry” whatsoever between “Ajeossi” Gyung Soo, and his protegee, Young Shin. They look like two lovely porcelain puppets put together on the stage. No palpable emotion nor tender feeling for each other.
The twist of events that a guardian is falling in love with his protégé is so alarming and makes me uncomfortable watching “A Good Supper”. I would urge MBC and other major broadcasting companies to put forth a summary that indicate a romantic relationship between a guardian and his/her adoptee so that the audience would be able to choose to watch or avoid this type of love story. Not everyone is comfortable with the love story between a guardian and his adoptee.
I am so displeased with the script of “A Good Supper”, the bad written script does not allow Young Shin character (Actress Jung Woo Yeo/Ryu Hyo Young) to perform a continuous engaging character. My humble opinion, the actress has a difficult time to interpret how to act in a tender loving romantic relationship with her “Ajeossi”. I decide to watch “A Good Supper” because I like the actress Jung Woo Yeo/Ryu Hyo Young in “Golden Pouch”. She is fun to watch and really engaging from episode 1 to episode 122 in “Golden Pouch”, her creative acting performance is exceptional in showing the different phases of Geum Seol Hwa emotion. I hope actress Jung Woo Yeo/Ryu Hyong Young will find many good scripts in the future and bloom in her acting performance. I miss that spunky lively “Geum Seol Hwa” with long powerful dialogues that actress Jung Woo Yeo/Ryu Hyo Young convincingly portrays in “Golden Pouch".
Lastly, I find almost all Korean actresses and actors act very well either in a small or big screen. Good actors/actresses can create the sense of occasion; however, veteran actor Jae Hee cannot make a difference in creating any sense of occasion in “A Good Supper”. I shudder as I watch the lead male protagonist’s dismal performance. Jae Hee’s performance is truly monotone. Gyung Soo’s facial expressions, (either glaring with hostility or smiling sweetly or looking longingly) and his body language are laughable. A very lifeless performance by experienced actor Jae Hee. I would give an inflated “one out of ten” for his performance.

Long Secret
First of all I would like to warn everyone that this series is one of those “hold the secret until almost the very end” type bombshell shows. If you are one that do not like long drawn out secrets you may want to steer clear of this one because that is absolutely what you get. The writers did have a way of adding more unknown secrets onto the secrets that most viewers were already aware of.
This is one of the first times that I was a bit conflicted about writing a review. First, I would like to point out that the beginning of story itself is really good however the progress and/or development is not ideal. The beginning of this series focused on just that, the beginning. It follows our main characters from childhood and it really shines a light into who they are and how they met and how their bond and relationships developed over time. I find that the beginning of the series was absolutely adorable because it really show the innocence of the characters as youth. It showed their energy and ultimately their temperament as well. What stood out to me about the beginning of the series was that the reveal of community families to include the significance on a child’s life experiences, security and growth. It was very hard moving and fun to watch.
Once the cast transitioned from childhood to adulthood things somewhat took a turn. The pacing stayed relatively the same. The actors changed, naturally as expected, but the warm and fuzzy we got from the youth experience disappears/disintegrates/burns. The show takes a complete 360° turn it. It went from warm and fuzzy to crazy, shock and regrets. That’s right I said regret. After watching 60 episodes it becomes really apparent that the warm and fuzzy may not return until the very end. Sadly that very end is 60 episodes away. I have honestly watch so many episodes of this series and at this point I feel like I just wanna see how it ends. I am no longer invested in the middle pieces although I do plan to watch them. I’m only watching to see how it ends at this point. If you’re a lover of smooth sailing shows like me, be warned. Although there is the mystery series drags it out a bit longer than I’d like.
To make matters worst, I waited 80 episodes for someone to just tell the truth about 1 thing. 1 THING!. The script is far out there. I can’t think of anyone on earth or in drama land that would actually allow themselves to be bullied and manipulated while knowing that they have the power to take down the bully or at least suppress them. On another note I can’t think of any bully that will continue bullying knowing that the other people have the power to destroy them. Things just didn’t make sense. Throughout the series, I continued to ask myself “why are they letting the evil people get away it?” And “why don’t they just tell the truth?”
These people held a secret for no apparent reason. No exaggeration! and they suffered needlessly.
To top it all off we have a Guardian who has add the blue develop feelings for the very elementary person that he took in and raised from such a young age. Let’s ignore the fact that he has an aged at all but the very thought of it seems quite uncomfortable. There is really no way to foil this. This guy was already an adult running a restaurant. He was most certainly not a teenager but probably in his 20s and she was a kid that looked about 8 years old.
Am I still watching? More like skimming. Why? I would like to see the father and daughter connect. What I recommend it? Nope. Would I rewatch it? Absolutely not.
I have never, ever, ever watched a series that is as twisted as this. The power is twisted, the parental relationships are twisted, the friendships are twisted and if I have to be completely honest the adults are now appearing twisted as well. Reason has left this series.
This is by far one of the worst dramas that I have ever watched. And I have watched a lot. First of all within this very very unusual drama you have a criminal who commits crime repeatedly and never get punished even though everyone knows that they were criminal. Everyone just casually pretends that nothing ever happened. Secondly we have an overly passive female lead who is suppose to be smart and strong but everything about her character reeks obliviousness, weakness and stupidity. Thirdly we have this weird out of the blue romantic interest of a child and guardian after years have passed. Not only was this awkward but it was also random and unsupported. Fourth, what shall I say we had that magic ending where we just assume that everyone lives happily ever after. No charges were pressed. We’re friends with the murderer of our parents. We marry people that we don’t really like and the end. This was just the strangest bunch of mess I’ve ever seen.
Titanic vibes, #CPR COULN’T SAVE THIS!
My brief synopsis of this series is as follows:. A good guy with a secret that could destroy the bad guy. Good guy holds the secret while being trampled by the bad guy. Bad guy knows that the good guy holds the secret that is crucial but still behaves wickedly. So ultimately what you’ll get while watching the series is the good guy having the power and ability to destroy the bad guy but instead of doing so they allow themselves to be bullied, lied on, controlled and manipulated for over half the series. At least up to 80.
It was like watching someone hold a weapon but standing still to get beat up. WHY???????

Shit
Sometimes there are few selected dramas that shouldn't even be submitted to the network for approval and this is definitely one of them. My soul has been drained out from this abomination and I don't feel like writing too much. It's impressive how one writer can fuck up this hard. It takes a talent! This drama is classified under "rage bait kink" and "fucky wucky ending" labels, it's manufactured that way. This drama is a waste of carbon emissions. If I'm not clear enough, you're very much highly recommended and advised to absolutely turn around far away from this cancerous tumor. Was this review helpful to you?

Loving someone is more condemnable than killing someone
I have dropped this drama since the writer(s) decided to kill the main lead.I don't understand all this hatred towards the relationship between the two main characters. In order to set up the two youngsters, the FL with the medical student, the writers of this drama are now killing the male lead.
Personally, I wasn't very interested in the love story line, but in the plot including that horrible Mrs Choi. The viewers seem to ignore all her evil deeds just as the fictional characters here have already forgotten that she stole someone else's husband, probably set a fire, killed her rival, abducted the rival's daughter, harmed her own son and so on. Everybody were focusing on criticising the love of KS for YS, but his love gave him the strength to fight against his mother while the others seemed to succumb one after the other in front of her greed. And now, he dies and she is gonna inherit the diner... and lead a life dedicated to the others? What a saint she became overnight!
So, no satisfaction for me at all.

If only...
Although it was controversial, I feel the basic concepts were actually okay but...GS may have been unable to abandon his mother but he shouldn't have kept his silence for her or let her go unpunished. Love does not equate to avoidance or cover up. Very often, one punishes because one loves.
YS should have known after seeing what happened to her bestfriend that condoning and yielding can actually also destroy the people you love and changed at least a little.
These are just 2 of the most annoying points.
The framework feels awesome with brimming potential but the script and characters unfailing disappoint.
How do I say it, I feel like it could have been great a great script if only... and If only... and if only....
The if only's dominate the plot.

Paedophilia and Grooming
Paedophilia relates to a specific disorder where there is a preference for sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children.Grooming is when a person builds a relationship with a child, young person or an adult who's at risk so they can abuse them and manipulate them into doing things. The abuse is usually sexual or financial, but it can also include other illegal acts.
What Is a Father Complex? In psychology, 'daddy issues' are described as a 'father complex. ' A father complex develops when a person has a poor relationship with his or her father. The need for approval, support, love, and understanding progresses into adulthood, and it may result in bad decisions with relationships.

This is a daily drama. Please remember before watching
This is not a special limited twice per week drama that was meant to circumvent the laws regarding commercial breaks. These are the original telenovela formats that have the drawn out stories and fillers. Which might I add, is not as much as your typical daily drama. The music selection and original soundtrack is great and grips the viewer and is not over done to the point of excess. If you are an avid daily drama fan who watches these with coffee in the morning and understands the nuances and points of these kinds of series there should be no problem. Since they started licensing daily dramas on mainstream sites, viewers who are not used to the format continue to miss what these formats are intended for. Again, for seasoned daily drama viewers, this series does come as an improvement but I can understand the lackluster filler and ridiculousness can prove to be frustrating for those who are not used to this kind of drama. Overall, huge improvement and wonderful ensemble cast. Disability representation of Young Goo is more than superb, the writers give ample screentime and make each and every character's story interesting. I will say that I agree with the viewers opinion that Young Shin has blank facial expressions and doesnt serve as memorable as other main characters, but the writers compensate with the suspense of each and every character's livelihood and their own demise. Must watch for me!Was this review helpful to you?
