Rest assured that if I enjoyed police dramas, the rating would be much higher, but unfortunately I have a lot of difficulty connecting with investigative plots. What would happen if you were forced to join the police force to escape a criminal? The series is about that, a policewoman and a pastry chef who meet in a police training course for VIP secret service. It's been quite funny seeing Vicky among several trained policewomen, developing her skills. Let's wait and see the next episodes.
In addition, the production is very good and the effects are very good too, including the action scenes.

"Heart Code" raised the bar higher for GL series in all aspects.

When it comes to action-themed Thai GL series, the choices are very limited, and the existing ones do not truly stand out and some are lousy made. However, Heart Code has come through with a bang and marked its name as a well-executed, well-acted, well-written and well-produced action-themed GL series. It raised the bar high in all aspects for Thai GL series.

In many GL series where drama and romance often take center stage, the plot development often feels loose, rushed or underdeveloped, as there's usually a lot to cover in a limited time frame and episode. But Heart Code does a fantastic job of balancing action, drama, and romance within 7 episodes, an approx. 60-minute duration, while other 8-12 episode series still can't quite get it right. Every twist and turn is delivered seamlessly with good pacing. The character development is also good. And I love that this series doesn't rely entirely on the chemistry and/or steamy scenes to make the romance good, but rather focused on interaction with a developed and exciting plot. Tungpang and Jessie simply give an outstanding performance. With a strong script and impeccable acting, this series left me satisfied from the first episode until the end.

One of the best features of this series is its outstanding production quality. From having watched many Monomax series, I can say I’m hardly ever disappointed in that particular aspect. The action is well-executed, showing how everything is well-choreographed instead of simply relying on camera tricks. Director Nui Suttasit’s attention to detail, visual storytelling and camerawork never fail to impress. I always love how he plays with foreground and ambience in most of his shots. The music score truly enhances the charm of this series, as every background music fits the scenes' mood perfectly rather than constantly using the OSTs. The set and design department deserves praise for their work in bringing each set/location to life with authenticity. Plus, the wardrobe, hair, and makeup teams have excelled in giving the characters proper styles and personalities instead of just ‘romanticizing’ their looks. I’m really glad they didn’t dress a bodyguard on duty in a crop top, an oversized blazer, and stilettos. (No shade, it's a fact).

Despite having a lot of good points, this series still not a perfect series for me. The only downside for me is some predictable storylines and villain arcs and typical tropes (like the childhood friends, the revenge trope) I've seen in many other GLs, which kind of make me feel a bit turned off. Hence, it doesn't quite earn a full score.

In conclusion, Heart Code is a testament to the fact that a great series should not compromise on any aspect of its production and script, regardless of the genre. While chemistry between actors/characters is important, it is equally crucial to not overlook the core elements of storytelling and production values, which is something that most GL series usually fail to achieve. This series stands out as a refreshing take on GL dramas and simply sets a new benchmark for future GL series to aspire to. For fans of the genre looking for a captivating and well-rounded series, "Heart Code" is a must-watch.

This is a romance, not an action series....

so its a bit sad that i raised my expectations half way through. This show made a valiant effort at trying to make a detective drama, but the mystery element just fell flat for me. I watched this thinking of so many ways this show could've been better, but the whole time this series was playing it safe, and not really saying anything. Sure, its nice to see chemistry between the two main leads, but towards the last episode this series lost its momentum and i was just waiting for it to be over. There's also things in this series that don't make sense in the drama, so they can't translate appropriately into a real-life situation. I don't recommend this drama, but if you wanna sit through this, be my guest.

unexpected gem

I decided to watch this drama after seeing a few people give positive reviews online. I’m glad I did!

The chemistry and tension build between the two main characters is insane 🔥Moreover the story and plot felt interesting and well executed, which can sometimes be a miss with good romance series.

I think like eveyone agrees, the storage cubpboard and bakery scenes were top tier and had my heart racing.. But can we also talk about the training days, Thara helping Vicky build stamina, resilience and strength. A perfect mix of passion, tension, comedy and drama 🧡

My only reasons for not giving above 8.5 stars:
-imo the storyline of them being childhood friends could have been done better or even not included at all as it’s been done a lot now in other series

Heart Code – Revenge or Love?

While waiting for BOL (Broken of Love) and wanting to familiarize myself more with the GL universe, I decided to watch Heart Code. I have to be honest: I didn’t pick it entirely at random. I had seen a few clips on social media and thought, “Okay, I’ll give it a chance.”

Surprisingly, Heart Code proved to be a series truly worth watching.

At first, two episodes were released at a time, but as the story neared its end, the schedule changed to just one episode per week. And I genuinely found myself looking forward to it.

A Story That Hits the Ground Running

The series opens with a generous dose of action, spiced with humor, before the characters’ pasts hit the viewer full force. From that moment, the audience is thrown into a true ocean of emotions.

How could you not be drawn to such a combination?

The narrative develops relatively slowly, but this deliberate pace allows the series to explore Captain Thara’s trauma. We are invited—almost gently—into her story, to understand why she is so determined to take revenge on her father’s ex-boyfriend—the irony being that he is now the police chief.

Another commendable aspect is that the story doesn’t focus solely on the central couple, Vicky and Thara. The series also develops the stories of their friends and the surrounding conflict, not just the romance.

We get action—after all, this is a police series—intense training sessions, and humorous moments that balance the tension.

Genre Clichés and Minor Execution Flaws

Not everything is perfect.

Vicky and Thara seem to experience love at first sight. While this is clear for Vicky, Thara’s feelings are less immediately defined.

The series also introduces heterosexual relationships, though these are presented ambiguously, mostly in jest (teasing like friends, but with undertones). The audience is left to fill in some narrative gaps, including the development of the main relationship.

And, of course, there are the familiar clichés:

You fall in love with the person who saves you from an attacker.
That same person takes the blame for something you did wrong.
Bullying appears (jealous classmates).
The major conflict becomes inevitable: what do you do when the person you fall in love with is the child of your enemy?

Apparently, the BOL writer wasn’t the only one to think of this. I won’t insinuate anything, but I can already see this becoming a future genre cliché.

Other familiar elements appear as well: the spy who complicates everything, slow-motion shots that sometimes slow the action instead of enhancing it.

Editing and Realism Issues

The series also has a few technical slip-ups.

In one scene, the character about to be assassinated—Thara’s father—has the rope visibly positioned below his neck. In the next shot, the editing “fixes” it, placing the rope exactly where it should be.

The shooting scenes also have logic problems. Thara gets shot, yet Vicky doesn’t notice and later comes to visit her in the hospital (how did she even find out without a phone call?).

Thara’s colleagues arrive suspiciously fast at the crime scene, even though no one seems to have notified them.

And the mid-shootout kiss scene… though sweet, inevitably raises the question: who has time for this in such a dangerous moment?

Additionally, some post-production cuts are awkwardly executed, creating small moments of confusion for the audience.

Strong Performances That Elevate the Series

Even with these imperfections, Heart Code succeeds thanks to its performances.

Pattarawadee Laosa (“Tungpang”), who plays Thara, seems born for this role. There is no hesitation in her performance. She builds her character with the confidence of a police officer used to making high-pressure decisions.

Thara is someone who hides her feelings, and roles like this are difficult to play. That’s why the moments when the character shows vulnerability—including when she cries—become all the more powerful. Laosa brings her to life so convincingly that, at times, you feel as if the character is part of her.

On the other hand, Jessie Natsiya Prommart (Vicky) portrays the classic “daddy’s girl” archetype. Vicky is optimistic, cheerful, slightly dreamy, yet carries a heavy burden: the death of her mother. Her character adds humor to the series, but also has emotional moments that can bring tears to more sensitive viewers.

The chemistry between the two leads seems genuine, not just on-screen. Rumor has it they might be a couple in real life, which likely explains why their kisses and touches feel so natural and emotionally charged.

The antagonist, Bawornthat, played by Paran Kongsiridecha (“Boy”), represents the archetype of the spoiled rich kid. The son of a politician, flirtatious, and confident that his father can get him out of any situation, his character is essential for the conflict’s dynamics.

Bawornthat embodies young people for whom power and privilege have become normal—a person used to taking advantage of others and turning everything into a game.

Verdict

Heart Code is not a perfect series. It has clichés, some editing issues, and moments of questionable logic.

But it also has many redeeming qualities:

A story that keeps your interest
Well-paced action
Humor
Authentic emotional moments
Strong performances

Even as a GL series, it doesn’t focus solely on the central romance. It builds a wider world, with multiple relationships and conflicts.

The result? A show that intrigues, doesn’t bore, and occasionally moves you.

Strong Ending After a Mixed Middle

This series starts with a solid introduction, doing a good job of setting up the characters and the basic story without revealing too much too early. The early episodes balance little comedy and romance quite well. The romantic development progresses steadily, even if it takes a while before the relationship truly moves forward.

The middle part of the story is somewhat weaker. Some plot developments feel forced and occasionally predictable, and one particular character reveal is handled in a rather cliché way. At times the writing feels a bit lazy, making certain twists easy to anticipate.

However, the series improves again toward the end. The later episodes strengthen the characters and the overall storyline, leading into a finale that delivers a satisfying conclusion. While there are some minor issues with plot logic and acting, the ending manages to wrap things up clearly without leaving major questions unanswered.

Overall, the drama remains entertaining and enjoyable. Despite some predictable moments and uneven writing in the middle episodes, the strong final episodes and clear conclusion make it a worthwhile watch.

This GL is very underrated and deserves so much, REAL HIDDEN GEM

I'm annoyed that I postponed this drama, but the good thing is that I FINALLY got to watch it and here's my opinion.
I'm gonna be honest, I mostly love all GL's (try to) but this GL, made me feel something that NOT all GL's make me feel.
Tension, curiosity, excitement, anger, sadness, happiness. All at once. Each episode was more intense (one more than other, clearly) and I was always excited for the next one. I loved the chemistry between the actresses and was so happy when I saw that they were apparently going to have more series together. I loved the acting of the other actors too; some acted so well in their villainous roles that I genuinely hated them (only in their roles, nothing outside of that). I also feel a strong connection to this series because it contains police drama and crime, which added even more points to it. Mixing police drama with romance, its always a HELL YEAH for me.

I'm glad I found this GL and I recommend it a thousand times over. I feel that it still doesn't have the popularity it deserves, so I hope that Tungpang Jessie, in their next project, will get that 100% deserved recognition so that Heart Code can finally become popular.

points for trying

i'll be honest, i wasn't completely sold on the series at first. for the first few episodes, copaganda completely aside because i already knew what the series was about going on so i won't be mentioning that in my review, i still found myself actively trying to push through because i kept waiting for the moment where it would get really good. it wasn't until around the second half of episode 5 through the first half of episode 7 that my rating for the series really started to climb, and i'm glad i stuck with it because those episodes ended up being the strongest part of the show for me.

what i appreciated most was the central story it was trying to tell. the series played things relatively safe and never really went for any major twists or shocking reveals, but i guess it didn't necessarily need to. at its core, i viewed it as a story about someone who was repeatedly failed by the people and institutions that were supposed to protect her, and the lasting impact that a corrupt system can have on a person's life. i found that aspect of the narrative far more compelling than any attempt at shock value would have been, it's a quieter story with themes that feel grounded and relevant, but w that said, i do wish the series had dug a little bit deeper into those ideas. it touches on systemic failures and institutional corruption, but often stops short of fully examining them as larger structural issues, which made some of its commentary feel a BIT surface level at times. but! even so.. i appreciated that it raised those questions in the first place and encouraged viewers to think about them (hopefully..)

one other aspect i found really interesting, and something i wish the series had also explored more, was what seemed to be a subtle class divide between the protagonists. whether this was intentional or not, there were moments where the difference in their social positions became apparent. tarn (whose father was a working class anti capitalist) works a dangerous and demanding job as a police officer because she needs to. meanwhile, vicky, coming from a far more privileged background, casually suggests that tarn could simply ask her father for time off so they can spend more time together, while also mentioning that the job is 'dangerous for a woman'. from vicky's perspective, it's presented as a reasonable solution, something she's used to all the time, but tarn's reaction highlights how disconnected that suggestion is from her reality. i found that dynamic genuinely compelling because it briefly touches on how privilege can shape a person's understanding of the world and the options they believe are available to others. it's one of the few moments where the series hints at larger structural issues beyond its central plot, and i honestly wish it had leaned into that more, unfortunately tarn immediately apologies to vicky right after that so LOL

anyway, i do think my experience was affected by my expectations going in. the series had been praised so heavily by almost everyone i talked to, the reviews were so crazy that my expectations were probably unrealistically high. i spent a lot of the show waiting for the moment where it would just get insanely good, and that moment never really came. but this is obviously less of a criticism of the series itself, and more so a result of how much hype i personally had built up in my head beforehand. it’s a good series, but i think i would have enjoyed it more if i had gone in with fewer expectations and let everything happen naturally

my biggest criticism would probably be the pacing of the romance. i'm PERSONALLY not a huge fan of relationships that develop very quickly, and that's something i find myself struggling with in a lot of gls because most series only have around 8 episodes, and in this case, only 7, there's often pressure to establish the characters, build the plot, and get the leads together in a very short amount of time. as a result, the romantic progression between the main characters felt rushed to me at first and on the other hand, i don't think the plot itself suffered from the limited runtime as much as the romance did
and so because of that, the chemistry felt a little forced in the earlier episodes. however, as the series continued and the characters spent more time together, those interactions started to feel much more natural. by episode 6, i had completely warmed up to them as a couple and thought they were really cute and so by the end i found myself really invested really in their relationship

another issue i had was a scene in which tarn engages in sex while under the influence of drugs. regardless of the writers' intentions, i found that scene deeply uncomfortable and unnecessary. unfortunately, it's become a recurring trope across a lot of thai gls and one that i rarely think adds anything meaningful to the story

overall, i don't think the series completely lived up to the enormous expectations i had going into it, but im also not saying it disappointed me. it's a thoughtful, well acted series with a compelling central message, and while there are definitely areas where i think it could have pushed itself further, i'm glad i watched it and can absolutely understand why it resonated with so many people, and im glad it tried doing something new and tried tackling issues that deserve to be portrayed^^
