fun watch with good acting from full cast
acting really underrated honestly compared to other works in this genre that get gassed up but are actually terrible.. episode lengths were plenty long enough to me considering most other shit nowadays manages to be like 5 mins come on lol and genuinely don’t know why there’s so many comments on so-called plot holes because it was actually very clear they were trying to provide context for literally every element of the plot. but to be fair I guess that’s just the usual audience anyway zzz nobody knows how to pay attention properly. singular thing I can agree on was it just wasn’t realistic but what was anyone supposed to expect ? so what if the cop was bad at being a cop lol they said it themselves anyway. and the leads didn’t particularly have chemistry but honestly I didn’t care the story was fine for me genuinely compared to loads of other works again that are worse by a long shot with actual plot holes and cheap lazy writing.. and no time wasted on triangle bullshit or misunderstandings etc since the romance wasn’t intense which was fine. was able to enjoy all the characters and their connections a lot better. possibly memorable? rewatch value only low because I personally don’t rewatch most thingsWas this review helpful to you?
The Lie We Lived In — An Excellent Thriller That Forgot Entertainment Matters Too
I admire what The Lie We Lived In was trying to do. Instead of following the usual Korean BL formula, it dives headfirst into a murder mystery filled with betrayal, hidden pasts, violence, and moral ambiguity. It wants to be treated as a serious crime drama where the romance simply happens to involve two men. That's an ambitious idea, and in many ways, it succeeds. The problem is that somewhere along the way, it forgot that watching a drama should also be enjoyable.The story itself is genuinely interesting. A murder investigation, characters carrying painful secrets, and two men finding themselves on opposite sides of the truth create plenty of tension. I never questioned the mystery because it kept me curious until the end. What I questioned was the pacing. Korean thrillers with this level of complexity usually run for twelve or even sixteen episodes of around forty-five to sixty minutes. Here, everything is compressed into only eight episodes of roughly twenty minutes. The result is a drama that constantly rushes from one dark revelation to the next without giving either the characters or the audience enough time to process what has just happened.
That relentless darkness eventually became exhausting.
Every episode is filled with death, blood, betrayal, trauma, or another shocking revelation. There is almost no humour, very little warmth, and barely any emotional relief between the heavier scenes. I kept waiting for a quieter moment—a conversation, a joke, some physical affection, or simply a chance to enjoy watching the characters together. Not because every BL needs sex scenes or constant romance, but because every story benefits from contrast. Without lighter moments, the tension never rises or falls. It simply stays at the same emotional level until it starts losing its impact.
Ironically, the romance suffers because of that choice.
The chemistry between the leads is believable, but their relationship never receives enough space to grow naturally. Since the mystery dominates almost every episode, I often felt like I was watching a crime drama that happened to include a BL relationship rather than a BL enhanced by an excellent thriller plot. A little more balance between the investigation and the romance would have made both aspects stronger.
The cast, however, is outstanding.
Every actor fully commits to the material, and the performances are consistently convincing. On top of that, the cast is incredibly attractive. Korea has a remarkable ability to find actors who aren't simply handsome but genuinely charismatic on screen. More importantly, they know how to act. Whether the scene required fear, grief, anger, or vulnerability, I never doubted the performances for a second.
The production is equally impressive. The cinematography creates a tense, claustrophobic atmosphere that perfectly suits the story, while the direction maintains the suspense from beginning to end. Technically, this is one of the strongest Korean BLs I've seen. That's exactly why I found the missed opportunities so frustrating. Everything surrounding the script is excellent, but the script never allows the audience to come up for air.
Final Thought
The Lie We Lived In proves that Korean BL can successfully explore genres far beyond romance. As a thriller, it's ambitious, beautifully produced, and brilliantly acted. As entertainment, however, I found it too relentless. The mystery never stopped, the darkness never lifted, and the romance never had enough room to breathe. Sometimes, even the most serious stories need moments of light, because those moments are what make the darkness hit even harder.

Short, Addictive, and Full of Suspense
The Lie We Lived In proves that a short series can still leave a big impact. At only 20 minutes per episode, every episode ends in a way that makes you desperate to watch the next one. The story follows an assassin forced into a dangerous lie while hiding his identity from a detective, creating plenty of suspense, tension, and mystery without dragging things out.The chemistry between the two leads is excellent, and the romance develops naturally alongside the thriller plot. The kissing scenes were passionate and well done, though I definitely wouldn't have complained if they had lasted a little longer. What really stood out was how the series balanced lies, secrets, and attraction, leading to a satisfying plot twist near the end. A gripping Korean BL that keeps you hooked from start to finish.

Single location thrills and silliness
This is a fun and engaging mystery/suspense BL drama. Despite 90% of the story taking place inside the same house I never felt bored with the plot development and cliffhangers. Sometimes things feel a bit silly with how many poor decisions are made, but that's part of what made it so fun. Characters are compelling and well-played by the actors. With that said I expected a tad bit more from the LITBC director. I just feel like the 8 25-minute episode format wasn't the best choice for this kind of story, but they probably just made do with a lower budget. Overall still an enjoyable watch, and I really hope to see more BL thrillers.Was this review helpful to you?

10/10 psychological thriller series
I am pretty sure this is my first k-drama bl. and i regret binge watching it because it was sooo good 😭😭. the storyline, the characters, the action, and mostly the dark visual aesthetic throughout this whole show was amazing. it’s honestly so good I don’t know how to put it into words. but this is a series that I cannot watch again because I won’t feel the same from how I felt watching it the first time. but I highly recommend this series.Was this review helpful to you?

It was very nice. I liked the cast and the story line. But the only thing which make me to think is that the mc and ml where together like max of 1 week but they fell for eachother and the mc liked the ml after he comes to know he's a suspicious person. Slow start, but great finish
This series starts out so slow. It's a minimal cast with very little movement in location ... but even so, it begins to evolve into a really good story. If you give it enough time, you will be hooked on a murder mystery BL with many different sub plots.The cast is a bit difficult in jelling with chemistry, but even they adopt and start to come together by episode 3.
If you're looking for a traditional BL series, you may be disappointed. There are no evil antagonists trying to keep the two "love interest" apart. Normally that's always a big theme in BL's, but not in this one. While there is a sexual tension between the two protagonists, the main story stays distant from physical contact for quite a while. It eventually happens, but it's a while in coming. By episode 5, things change in a big way, and as you conclude that episode, things go off in a completely different direction, giving us a bit of sex, murder and back story on some of these characters. The more history we learn, the more unanswered questions surface.
Seung Beom is definitely great at being the thug, although a kind hearted thug! I did have a problem with Kyung Min. It wasn't his acting, he was good at his role, it was a bit difficult, though, believing him to be a cop. It did work out better toward the final episodes, and the chemistry does flow with him and his sexual partner, dong Jin by the end.
All in all, it is a very entertaining and pretty unique BL. Probably the best of 2026 so far!

Not Bad
I like the thriller BL genre a lot, and this one delivered in many areas. We have our anti-hero, our twist, and the chemistry between the leads is not bad. I did think it was odd that our naive lead would be THAT naive and really not be able to recognize differences he easily should have, but I won't give too much away for those who haven't seen it yet. More holes tha a Swiss cheese
The premise of this series is so ridiculous that I couldn’t stop watching. I kept waiting for it to fall apart, but instead it kept pulling me in because I genuinely wanted to know where it was headed. A killer who couldn’t kill and a cop who couldn’t arrest, it sounds like the setup for a dark comedy, yet somehow the series makes it work. More than once I found myself wondering who was really in control.The chemistry between the leads doesn’t hit immediately, but once it does, the performances improve dramatically. They’re complete opposites, and while that usually makes for an easy dynamic, this series takes a more unconventional route. Their relationship develops in unexpected ways, making every interaction feel like another piece of a much larger puzzle.
The biggest strength of the show is that it constantly makes you question what you’re seeing. You know there’s a twist coming long before it’s revealed, but you can’t quite put your finger on it. Watching it felt like walking into a game of charades where everyone else already knew the answer, and I was the only one trying to figure out the rules. That lingering sense of uncertainty kept me invested until the very end.
It’s not a perfect series, but it’s different and sometimes that’s enough to make it memorable..

Good plot!
This was a good crime BL with a good plot.The fight scenes were good! It had good visuals and the music was good enough for the drama.
Kim Kyung Min wasn't really convincing as a cop. But the overall acting was very good.
The mains had good chemistry and the kisses were good.
I recommend watching.

The Disappointment We Lived In
The concept was great but the execution failed at every turn. The show starts off strong when the hitman knocks out the owner of a house and is told not to kill him but lock him in the basement while he has to search for a phone which for some reason, he doesn't actually spend time looking for. Then we get a guest at the house mistaking the hitman for his friend's brother. Turns out he's a cop. Sounds exciting, right? Except the cop is dumb as a doorknob.The problem is that the hitman isn't killing and the cop isn't investigating or arresting anyone. Also the cop can't fight nor use his brain. He is clearly not cut out for the job so MINOR SPOILER I was very happy he quits at the end.
There was solid potential for some thrill and tension but both characters turned soft. And then there's a mystery behind a death but none of it made sense. I'm not sure how they got away with the crime in the first place.
The 2 positives are that the theme music is great and all the actors are goodlooking. But the only acting I thought was decent was the hitman's. The script was weak and they managed to make the show feel very slow paced even at 20 mins an episode.
Amidst all the chaos, the leads manage some loving. It was a bit ridiculous but okay they looked good together.
I actually feel bad rating it poorly but the show fell well below my expectations.
